The Path to Norman
The Sooners weren’t the first ones to enter the Daylan Smothers recruiting race. The talented running back from North Carolina was recruited strongly by Florida State and NC State for almost a year before OU and Smothers began to engage. Smothers received his OU offer in March, 2022. After that, he committed to the Sooners a few months later.

This Season
The running back room will be led by Jovantae Barnes and Gavin Sawchuk this fall. After those two, there are several other talented options. Daylan missed a few days of fall camp, but has been back with the team since. He and fellow freshman Kalib Hicks will likely redshirt this season as they prepare for a larger load to carry in future years.
