The Path to Norman
Savion Byrd played high school football in Texas. He was a highly-rated offensive lineman in the 2021 class with offers from many programs, including Alabama, Auburn, Texas, and LSU. Byrd made his way to Norman for the Sooner Summit in the fall of 2020, which seemed to seal the deal. He waited a few more months, but committed to the Sooners in the winter of 2020.
Career so Far
Byrd took a redshirt season in 2021; he did, however, earn playing time in two games to gain experience.
In 2022, Savion saw a noticeable increase in playing time. He saw action in 10 games in a mix of special teams and reserve offensive line play, showing off his ability to play nasty. In the bowl game against Florida State, Byrd made his first career start.

Highlights
This Season
With two seasons of gaining experience under his belt, Byrd looks set for a much larger role in 2023. He will be a major factor at guard, likely a starter at left guard. This year’s offensive line will have plenty of new starters; Sooner fans are hoping that Byrd and company can offer a smooth transition and an even better offensive line than last year’s this fall.
