The Path to Norman

Cayden Green and the Sooners circled each other for a very long time. The Sooners offered relatively early in Green’s recruiting journey back in March, 2021. Coach Bedenbaugh had to battle through an offer sheet including Notre Dame, Oregon, LSU, Georgia, and many others, along with in-state Missouri. The top-100 recruit offered athleticism that would allow him to play either tackle or guard. After nearly two years of recruitment, OU landed his commitment.

Highlights

This Season

Cayden Green was an early enrollee, giving him the benefit of spring ball with the Sooners. With transfer Walter Rouse limited throughout camp, Green saw a lot of reps at left tackle with the first team. Although Rouse is likely to claim the starting role when healthy, Green has shown such promise that he will be difficult to keep off the field. While he could be the first tackle off the bench, Green could also slide inside to guard. However, Coach Bedenbaugh may prefer to redshirt the freshman if possible. It may not be this season, but Cayden Green has the makings of a special offensive lineman for the Sooners.
