The Path to Norman

Walter Rouse, a D.C. lineman in the 2019 class, committed to Stanford out of high school. He had offers from many top programs, including Notre Dame, Michigan State, Tennessee, Florida, and even OU. Stanford won out though, leading to four seasons there for Rouse. Following the 2022 season, Rouse entered the transfer portal. Despite an initial committment to Nebraska, he transferred to Oklahoma to play.

Career so Far

Rouse became an immediate factor on the line for Stanford. In his freshman season, he played in all 12 games, starting 11, at left tackle. He earned second-team freshman All-American honors from The Athletic and started his career hot.

In 2020, Rouse started in every game of the season, earning All-Pac-12 honorable mention. He again started every game in 2021 and was named to the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll.

2022 saw Walter Rouse start all games but two (those due to injury). Now a veteran presence, Rouse was named to the William V. Campbell Trophy finalist list, which is awarded to the player who best combines “academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.” Former Sooner Ty Darlington is a past winner of the trophy.

This Season

Walter Rouse unfortunately has dealt with a labrum injury over the spring that held him out of much of spring drills. However, he is expected to be good to go for the season. With the departure of Anton Harrison, Rouse is expected to fill the void at starting left tackle. In his final season of college football, Rouse should be an immediate factor on the line for the Sooners.
