FOOTBALL

This is from last Friday, but it’s a pretty interesting read  on Sam Bradford and his time in St. Louis. Not sure how you can form a premise of fault around him and his struggles while repeatedly mentioning the players the Rams front office have put around him who never developed. Still though, good read. (Grantland)

Roll Tide. (The Big Lead)

Kendal Thompson starting to show what he’s capable of in Utah. (Salt Lake Tribune)

How utterly clueless is the FSU genius who thought this would be a good idea? (Deadspin)

Go Big Red.

Late addition, I felt it was warranted.

OTHER

This seems like a strange twist for the Twilight franchise to take.

I guess I’m just a big softie b/c I think this looks promising.

Really pulling for Thompson, even check in on a Ute’s site now and then to see how he’s doing.

KT was a great teammate according to the players and a class act in the classroom and off the field while at OU. I wish him nothing but the best of luck in Utah.

The camp x-Ray trailer…..trying to remain non-political here… But …… Us or them…. What it comes down to. “My country, may she always be right, but my country right or wrong” .

Looks like just what it is; making excuses for some of the worst terrorists on earth who were caught on the battlefield, but that Hollywood now wants to humanize despite the most inhumane act humans can commit- random acts of muder solely for religion. They want to make US, the victims, the bad guy, even after they flew planes into our tallest buildings and murdered three thousand completely innocent people doing nothing except going about their lives. And that actually pales in comparison to all the death around the world because of them over the last decade. THEY make it political in Hollywood. I don’t buy it because they’re just as wrong as the people they defend for such actions.

    • I think the guys that were sent to Gitmo, are there for a pretty good reason. I don’t check my heart at the door when I make these comments. I have compassion and love for other human beings. BUT, Gitmo is not a place where nice people were sent. I don’t think a “heart-warming” story about an enemy combatant is really necessary. Especially since we just let 5 murderers go so that we could get back a US “soldier” to deserted his post and got captured. I’m not trying to be political, but I think this is kinda a slap in the face to our soldiers that work so hard to keep our grounds safe. My humble opinion…’Merica!

You are right on target with your comments. It will definitely be a movie I miss and will encourage others to do the same. It seems appropriate that they choose an actress (Stewart) who can’t act.

Being a US History high school teacher I will likely watch it from home just because I know some of my students will and they will have questions. I don’t indoctrinate but I do think my job is to offer another perspective, I even do that with positions I don’t personally agree with. Nothing pisses me off more than those Starbucks arm chair liberal, philosophers who thinks its fashionable to rip the US and her people in a tone that reflects their belief they are far more enlightened than us knuckle draggers. I’ve been to some pretty deprived parts of this world with a travel, agency known as the U.S Marine Corps where we were certainly the good guys and did some really positive things in the name of our countrymen. Those experiences don’t make my position any more righteous than others but it has certainly afforded me some insight and meaning about our place in this world.

I’m not sure of the reasoning that because Sam has had three offensive coaches, and three offensive systems in four years then it must be somehow his fault they haven’t done better. “At what point does it become the quarterbacks fault?” is not a real question. It is always a shared responsibility. And any article that suggests that he must lack the arm strength to throw the deep ball, and then goes on to disprove that notion itself, is bordering on a waste of time. I fully expect Bradford will be an elite quarterback this year IF he stays uninjured, and it points out he was doing exactly that before he was hurt last year. Their undeniably poor protection of him caused them to skew their play calling towards the “dinks and dunks” that they criticize Bradford for, and his injuries have further hurt his numbers, but I think they will finally have the better O line this year they have been working towards. More then likely they will be saying that Sam finally “get’s it” come year end, even though it will primarily be due to him being both healthy and finally being given the chance to excel in a tough, tough, league with the sort of players around him that he needs!

    • blaster1371 says:

Good points. If his arm strength were ever an issue would he be in the NFL? I think Sam has developed further then some of the players the Rams have out around him.

      • vargo05 says:

No kidding. Would he have been the consensus pick for #1 overall if he had art strength questions? If his unwillingness to go downfield is a mental block, as suggested by the writer, I’d assume that block was developed via getting the crap knocked out of him for his 1st two years, along with a group of receivers that have been nothing more than average, as a whole.

Thank you for your very astute points. I was somewhat annoyed with Jordan for showing that article first thing on a Monday. I am very tired of the Sam Bradford articles trying to make all of the problems with the Rams his fault.

      • lovethemsooners says:

        So that’s Jordan’s fault?

      • Jordan Esco says:

Sorry. Believe me, I’m tired of all the grief Bradford seems to get for what, IMO, are some things outside of his control. It’s to the point I can’t even stand doing a Twitter search for him to try and find relevant news b/c there are so many morons (again, IMO) just unnecessarily bashing him.

My intent wasn’t to annoy anyone w/ linking to the article, I just thought it was an interesting read. My bad apparently.

        • SoonerCindy says:

Sorry Jorddan, my anoyance with the artlicle colored my tone with you and I apologize for that. I really appreciate the artlicles and look for them daily. I really appreciate all that you contribute.

        • Wilson says:

I hope they trade him, then he goes on to be a super bowl winning quarterback for a real franchise. It’s happened before. I actually wished that he had never gone to the Rams. Yes, it meant that he wouldn’t have been the number one overall, but I believe he would have had a better career up to this point. Hopefully this will be the season.

      • vargo05 says:

While we are all a bit biased in Sammy’s favor, anybody blaming the issue there on him are just being blatantly biased against him. I won’t remove all blame from him, because he’s still the QB and is a leader, but if you cover a rose in feces, it’s still gonna smell like s**t.

    • Krys Allen says:

Also the author failed to note the massive case of the drops that the Rams receivers have suffered from over Bradford’s tenure. All you have to do is YouTube Rams dropped passes and you will find plenty of videos.

    • Zack says:

I don’t read grantland articles not that others shouldn’t but I just think it’s a bunch of guys that sound like skip bayless on adderal.
I didn’t read much of the article for that reason. I think Bradford is in a bad situation there where the GM wanted to build around youth and never brought in veteran guys who could help develop the offense’s continuity. I think boldin would have helped had they got him before he went to Baltimore. Hopefully the team is ready to make a big push and Bradford can shine.
As far as me being upset about some writer saying Bradford is at fault? I can’t get too worked up. If they said negative things about Alex smith then they should do the same for Sam.

      • vargo05 says:

I agree. Grantland is pathetic. How somebody like Bill Simmons or Rick Reilly get the following and credit they do is absolutely beyond me. It shows the pathetic nature of journalism in this country today, sports and otherwise.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

While Sam hasn’t really had the talent around him to succeed, I don’t think he is totally void of blame either.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

Coach Lasso & Les Miles have to be related somehow…

  • Neworleanssooner says:

The Jameis tweets are hilarious. What Einstein in the FSU athletic dept thought that up?

  • thebigdroot says:

The Bradford article circled around and hinted towards what his issues have been without actually confronting it. It has not been one single thing, it has been a combination of several. OL, WR, OC. Why does he throw the ball short? Well if he doesn’t get the ball out quick he will get hammered. WR’s who can’t get open, play calling. When he did have that he threw five 50+ yard TDs in consecutive games. If the Rams do let Bradford go it might be the best thing for him. A team will snatch him up quick and will have better talent around him which will give him an oppurtunity to be successful.

  • Bob Browning says:

After watching the trailer for Camp X-Ray, it appears Kristen Stewart still hasn’t learned how to act.
