John Hoover is at it again. I was the first one to defend him last year when many OU fans I know felt he unnecessarily went after Stoops and/or OU. I don’t think it’s a bad thing at all to have someone in the local media not afraid (or intimated, or whatever) to challenge Stoops at times. But this just feels like creating your own witch hunt to go on a witch hunt. And having virtually zero details regarding whatever happened with Frank Shannon, he (Hoover) is making an monumental (and irresponsible, IMO) leap comparing Shannon to Ray Rice. (TW)
Schmitty speaks. (NewsOK)
From undrafted (which was ridiculous) to potential starter, Tony Jefferson is making a name for himself in Arizona. (AZ Sports)
After being released early last week by Seattle, former Sooner Bronson Irwin was quickly picked up by the Texans. (Chron)
Woke up this a.m. amazed to not see these comments from Steve Spurrier plastered all over ESPN. /sarcasm font (Twitter)
And speaking of South Carolina, you probably thought the NCAA/OU’s Pastagate was stupid. Welp, then there’s this. (Deadspin)

Pretty cool (and Mark Andrews is HUGE)

LMAO!!! The Hot Crazy Matrix has to be one of the funniest videos I’ve ever seen! I’m laughing out loud in my office, and I could care less if my co-workers hear me!
I think I’ll laminate it on a little card for my nephews.
Show it to em early and often cause gawd knows the brainwashing they’ll be put through soon.
And ohhhhhhh so true @disqus_J2DXJRZhXa:disqus
It may just be my web browser, but I’d suggest making the links open in a new tab. Don’t want your traffic leaving the site.
Thanks!
I’m happy to do it, though I was under the impression that was up to the individual and their own browser settings.
That could be it. Certain sites always open new tabs tho. *shrug*
On my laptop, I’ve just adjusted by hitting the Ctrl button and clicking the link simultaneously.
Thx for that little tip!
Hey, I don’t know if you control raw HTML when you edit; if so, just put “target=’_blank’ ” as an attribute of your tab
I was gonna recommend “target=’_blank’ ” for a new window, a while back but when I tried it in a post, for some reason it didn’t work, here. Never seen that before. I know that’s what’s usually done, cause it keeps the visitor on the site and doesn’t leave it up to the whim of their settings.
Anyway, for the mac users who want to do it on their own, option click, or two finger click on the trackpad will bring up the new window or tab option.
Hoover has totally embraced his “bad guy jounalist” persona.. Nobody else at the pressers will ask a tough question, because they know Hoover will, whether its warranted or not.. I feel like his stories are written before he even asks the questions…
Hoover is more concerned with “making” news, rather than just reporting it. Nonsense the way he continued to grill Stoops on the supposed “image” problem Hoover seems to believe OU has.
Also curious if Spurrier will take the same heat Stoops did when he said the exact same thing about the SEC. Both were right, and both have backed up their points.
The hoover piece was, in my opinion, just plain bad reporting. There is no issue there….except in his mind. A couple more of these and frankly he should be fired.
In the WR pic, who is the tall dude, back middle, in the white t-shirt?
Jeffrey mead
I think his name is Meade. He is out of Tulsa schools.
What blaster & BR said
What cracks me up about Hoover and Kersey is that when you question them, they come back more sensitive than Stoops. I questioned Kersey about his perceived source about his OU is confident DGB will be eligible article, and how Stoops had to be pissed that someone would say that, and he responded with, I don’t work for OU. Yeah, and I bet your source doesn’t work for OU either….
I understand needing to ask tough questions ABOUT FOOTBALL mr reporters. Some of the questions asked at Stoops press conferences are so lame. The exciting ones where the one year Kuzy from Newsok would get in in the fun: “Coach, tells us about how hot the first game of the season is and is this typical for September?” Or ” Coach, are the players excited to play Texass?”
or how bout the one about the heated benches…
She asked that question and Stoops was like…
It’s a very real shame, but the lobbing of Kuzy’s were often the highlight of the Monday press conference for me, and I think thats a bad thing.
What part of innocent until proven guilty do the folks not understand. An accusation is just that, an accusation, not proof. Bob and OU can’t help anything by commenting, it’s just not their place to do so.
The fact that charges haven’t been filed suggests a lack of evidence to do so.
University sanctions don’t require the same burden of proof as criminal courts. In fact, some schools don’t even allow the accused to question the accuser, a fundamental right in criminal cases. Sadly, some Universities have punished students solely on the basis of an accusation. Some of these “honor” councils include students. The opportunity for abuse is pretty clear when accused aren’t offered due process. I hope OU doesn’t follow that approach.
Meade
I thought Mark Andrews and DGB are both supposed to be 6’6? Andrews is clearly taller!
DGB is closer to 6’5′ but he has always been listed as 6’6
DGB looks all of 6’6 to me when you look at the guys he’s standing immediately next to and their listed heights. It’s hard to compare the height of Andrews to DGB when the camera gets them at a different angle in the far sides of the shot.
Schmitty article was really good, those are the type of articles that the local guys should be writing
Roll Tide.

Can someone list all the receivers in that picture? The only one I think I recognize is Sterling.
From left to right: Grant Bothun (back), Shepard, Mark Andrews (back), Durron Neal, Michiah Quick (kneeling), KJ Young, Jordan Smallwood, Dannon Cavil (back), Jeffery Mead (back), Derrick Woods, Austin Bennett, Dallis Todd, DGB
I hope they had a medic at mid field; some of those Bama fans have not ran for quite some time.
Back in 2005 I had a group of students send Stoops a football (I live in central CA, but am sooner born and sooner bred) with a letter. He signed the football and sent a note back with it. They presented to me for my birthday.
Very nice on the students and Stoops part.
I thought so. He didn’t know me from Adam. Kids do stuff like that and it gives one hope for this generation. One a stranger note, I wonder if he has someone else open his packages out of concern for his safety
Probably take care of that in the mail room.
I sent Stoops’ office a note when my grandfather turned 96. Thereafter, Grandpa got a note and card from Bob each year until his death at 101. Bob then sent a very nice condolence letter. I’m sure he has ‘people’ to help him process stuff like that, but, still, it was appreciated by my family, and says something about the guy that he’d task someone to take care of that.
Don’t know if you saw this. The Franchise’s Rufus Alexander vs an Intern doing the Oklahoma drill. The Intern was talking smack to Rufus and Rufus called him out on it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ifGEZTE6RY
I hadn’t, that’s awesome
Dominique Alexander I would assume… Rufus graduated in like 2007.
No, it’s Rufus. Bob would never let a current player do this.
They were talking about it last week. It’s definitely Rufus and a smack talking intern.
Because of your shorthand link to the Houston Chronicle, Jordan, I’m naming my first boy “Chron.”
I might have gone with ‘Seven’, but Chron works as well
Good gracious, we could start a college basketball team with our receivers.
That one guy can’t me more than 3′ tall. I’m surprised he made the team. Guess he’s a short yardage specialist.
Sometimes I’m a fan of Hoover, but what he said about Shannon was reckless, thoughtless and incredible irresponsible. Unbelievable.
Agree about Hoover. I have defended him in the past but he’s clearly trying to create an “image problem for OU” that doesn’t exist. This article is wreckless and irresponsible and it’s clearly more about creating news than it is reporting it.
