John Humphrey Commits To The Sooners!

On a day when OU has some top flight talent on campus fans were wondering if a commitment might happen….it did.
Earlier this week, John Humphrey narrowed his list down to Oklahoma and Notre Dame. He had previously stated that he wanted to commit at an All-American game. However, with Oklahoma possibly taking only one wide receiver in this class coupled with Humphrey’s excitement about OU…it all came together.
Word we got was that when he committed, “everybody on campus just went crazy.”
Humphrey is a fluid and dynamic receiver with elite speed. Like many young people he’s going to need time to develop his route tree and add size but the elements are all there for him to develop into an elite WR. He has some qualities that would suit the slot WR position but he’s got enough length to play outside as well.

Agree Shifty. Same hip action. Light on his feet. Good comparison I think. Both Humphrey has 3-4 inches on Saunders which is awesome. Really like this pick up!
I bet Miciah Quick will be a lot like Saunders. Imagine 2 years down the road, we may have two serious speed threats at WR with Quick & Humphrey. Always a good thing…
The speed and elusiveness of Humphrey and Quick and the size of the tree people OU brought in last recruiting cycle is going to make for some real matchup problems for defenses the next few years. Congrats to OUr newest Sooner!!! Boomer!!!
Watching his video I am reminded of the fact that speed doesn’t kill, speed differential is the killer.
He runs like an antelope, which is much faster than a deer.
And a “scalded dog” runs faster than an antelope. :}
One of my favorite plays to watch that I NEVER get sick of…in Stoolwater, a 4.5 forty guy named Mark Bradley takes one to the house and not only beat the late Darrent Williams to the end zone, the gap got bigger the longer they ran…and Williams never let up until he was about to step over the goal line. This was more impressive since Williams was the second fastest sprinter in Big 12 track behind OU’s DaBryan Blanton.

Didn’t know about the OSU guy’s track cred, just that Bradley could scoot.
If the other team is not Quick enough they won’t get over the “Hump”hrey to beat us.LOL!!! A great pickup today.
I think Humphrey is more like Saunders. quick to me is bigger more like what would have been if Reggie bush played slot receiver I bet he bulks up a bit and becomes a real problem when he can also power through tackles.

With MUCH more speed. Jalen wasn’t running 4.27
Jalen had a best 4.37 at the combine (much more accurate than texas hs camps)…I’d guess they are about the same speed…Humphreys has a few inches on Saunders and the same weight…they’re pretty much the same ath but we’ll have to see if Hump has the attitude and toughness that Jalen had

No doubt, that’s the reason why the cushion was given. No one likes getting beat.
It creates a real problem when a kid has that ability to run after the catch but can also be a serious deep threat. Very easy to call either hitch or go and then just read the db.
Or a simple slant route where you can’t give cushion. I played DB and the slant route could be the toughest to cover. Esp. if you were expecting something else & playing man.

I don’t think he was the surprise visitor but I sure am thankful we got his commitment. I am pretty sure the TFB’s said he was coming up today.
He said he was, had to cancel, then announced he would be there.

Read a report that Bielema violated the rules, tweeted out about a recruit committed to Ole Miss…by name.

How fast is he? I’ve seen 4.5 on the scouting sites and 4.25 on the intro graphic of his highlight video.
you have the two 40 times mixed up and I think his personal best 100 is 10.31…the 40 times were his sophomore year I believe (4.25 tech for sure)….yes he has elite speed…I’d put him right there with Franks Brooks Stills and Saunders in the speed cat…maybe a nose faster but they all finish close
