The Path to Norman

Jovantae Barnes comes to OU from Las Vegas. He and the Sooners circled each other from some time, despite offers from about every major program in the country. The former staff wanted to have him at USC, but Coach Venables and his team were able to lock in his committment not long after arriving. Barnes joined Gavin Sawchuk in one of the best running back classes in the country.

This Season

Barnes got plenty of work over the offseason, particularly with Marcus Major missing time in the spring, and every note indicated that he was an absolute standout. He missed time during fall camp with a sprained ankle, but was still listed on Monday’s depth chart. The running back room is thin on experience, which will certainly mean that the freshmen will be called upon. Look to see Barnes earning snaps this year as he begins what looks to be an exciting career in Norman.
