The Sooners pick up a huge commitment from ’23 defensive back Makari Vickers (6’1 180) out of Tallahassee, FL!
Vickers is a massive win for OU cornerback coach Jay Valai and head coach Brent Venables as they beat Alabama in a head-to-head battle for Vickers commitment.
While Vickers announced a ‘Top 3’ of OU, Alabama, and Michigan, this one came down to OU and Bama and the Sooners emerged with the win.
Makari and his family have visited Norman on multiple occasions, with their last visit coming for the ‘Party at the Palace’ event at the end of July.
That visit sealed the deal in favor of Oklahoma and it was at that time that Vickers let the staff know he was going to be committing to them.
Vickers will head to Norman with the understanding that he will start his career at corner. He is a bigger defensive back, but he does not lack speed and athleticism by any means. Alabama was recruiting him at safety, and one of our sources down in Tuscaloosa said they view him as ‘The best safety in the class’.
Jay Valai will have the first crack at Vickers in his room as OU has been recruiting him at corner.
Really nice pickup for OU and Vickers becomes the 21st member of the ‘CHO23N’ class!
