The Path to Norman

Shane Whitter attended Walter M Williams High School in Burlington, North Carolina. He played football all over the field, mostly at linebacker and tight end. Whitter was committed to Wake Forecast for several months of 2019 and didn’t seriously look around until Oklahoma came knocking. After a visit to Norman for the TCU game, he flipped from Wake Forest to the Sooners.

Career so Far

Whitter played right away his freshman season, appearing in nine of 11 games. He played both at linebacker and on special teams. During the Cotton Bowl blowout, Whitter received extended minutes and looked really good.

In 2021, Whitter played in every game of the season. Again a contributor on defense and special teams, Whitter’s athleticism was evident during his time on the field.

Highlights

This Season

The 2022 OU linebacker room looks as deep as it has in years. David Ugwoegbu, Danny Stutsman, Dashaun White, and Shane Whitter are the leaders at the spot and have plenty of game experience. Then, an insanely talented freshman class of Kobie McKinzie, Jaren Kanak, and Kip Lewis are waiting behind them. Whitter has a chance to be a consistent player at backer again this year and set himself up to start in 2023, when both Ugwoegbu and White will be gone.
