Gentry Williams | Post Visit Update
– Super K – Posted on: August 2, 2021
As you know, 2022 5-star DB, Gentry Williams took a return visit to OU this past weekend.
I spoke with Gentry on yesterday, following his visit.
***First, let’s recap. Prior to the visit, we mentioned a couple of times that following his USC visit he initially said he would be announcing in July which obviously didn’t look good for OU. He then decided to hold off on that which we noted seemed like a win for OU – at least in terms of opening the door a bit.
***We also noted previously that we had heard through sources following his out-of-state visits (including the one to USC), the family preferred Gentry stay closer to home.
***So, first of all, when I spoke with Gentry yesterday he confirmed the previous note – that family would prefer he stay closer to home. While the decision may be ultimately his to make, he said that his family’s preference plays a role.
***Also, one of the big things the Sooners have been fighting when it comes to USC is the fact that Gentry’s relationship with the staff over at USC is extremely tight. He said that this recent visit with OU did help a lot just because it gave him additional “quality time” with the coaches.
***He also noted that he got a lot of his questions answered. That was another point of emphasis because in our previous conversations he had voiced some concerns about whether OU had a clear vision for him as a player on the field. Again, that was another area where he felt USC had done a really good job. But OU seems to have alleviated some of his concerns in this regard.
***Gentry admitted that the move to the SEC “definitely made an impact” in giving the Sooners another advantage they just previously did not have.
***Lastly, he said that he’s looking at a decision to come sometime this fall so you can expect him back at OU for a game or two. Again, something that should help OU.
***I don’t want to go as far as to say OU will land Gentry just yet but I will say that after this last visit, my read of our phone conversation is that he is genuinely torn now. That is a big step forward from our previous conversations where it just felt like USC had built a fairly sizable lead. I think OU has closed that gap quite a bit and if they’ve got the parents on their side, that certainly doesn’t hurt.
***I also think it helps that OU has some Oklahoma DB prospects already in the boat. Additionally, with some DBs already committed, Manning and Grinch can make Gentry one of their few final priorities.
Strap in, still a ways to go in this one!
OU Out of the Running for Omari Abor
– CJ Vogel – Posted on: July 30, 2021
Just spoke with Duncanville DL Omari Abor following his UOV to Texas this afternoon.
Abor, who had taken OV’s already to Ohio State, Alabama and LSU, had Oklahoma in contention for one of his last two official visits. He said this afternoon that OU stopped communication with him close to a month ago.
Running in contention for the final two OV’s will be USC, who will get one, and either Texas or A&M.
Note on the Visitor

I apologize for the delay here. I was out much of the day and didn’t get in until around midnight.
I did speak with Charlie earlier and as he noted the visitor did make it in and the trip went well.
The visitor was Texas RB commit, Jamarion Miller.
This visit came together pretty last minute. In fact, I spoke with the recruiting coordinator over at Tyler Legacy on Friday and he wasn’t even aware of the visit.
I’ve known Jamarion’s mother for a few years from back when his older brother went through the process and committed to Texas so she let us know he would be visiting OU. She didn’t ask us to hold his name but we just figured we’d wait until he had a chance to actually visit.
We will try to get read from Jamarion this week but I get the sense his mom liked the visit but as she said, “I take it in as much as I can as if I will be attending the college but Jamarion has to pick what school is best for him and the school that he’s comfortable to help him grow and develop academically and as a man.”
I thought it noteworthy that she did say that in terms of football aspirations, her hope for him is that he has a chance to win a Heisman trophy. So, my question is who pitched that better? OU has the more recent Heisman trophy winners. And, they’ve had a number of guys invited to the ceremony in recent years.
However, Sark can pitch that he had two guys at the ceremony just last year and one of them won the award.
So, tough call.
Our guess is that if something is going to happen here, it will happen quick. If a week or two go by and Jamarion hasn’t really made a move, I think that tells you he’s solid to Texas.
In terms of ability, he is explosive. I’ve been by the school to see him and he is that Reggie Bush or Josh Jacobs guy. He’s compact, powerful, tightly wound, can cut upfield really quick and split your safeties like an ax.
More on this as we have it as CJ was out to see him Monday morning.
Update: CJ posted his note following his visit with Jamarion this morning. Right now, it appears that Miller is planning on remaining with Texas. For the full write up, please check the Donor Board.
