100 Days to Football Time in Oklahoma: #45 Joseph Weté

The Path to Norman

Joseph Weté was a highly-rated recruit out of Washington, DC. He attended Gonzaga High School, where OU QB Caleb Williams played. With offers from Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, and other top schools, it seemed like his recruitment would drag out closer to signing day. However, summer 2018 saw good news come Oklahoma’s way, as Weté committed to the Sooners.

Career so Far

Weté played in one game early in the 2019 season against South Dakota.

In 2020, Joseph played in almost every game of the season, mostly on special teams.

Highlights

This Season

This offseason, Weté transitioned from Rush to inside linebacker. The linebacker room has grown deeper under Coach Grinch, and all spots have stiff competition. At the WILL linebacker spot, Brian Asamoah brings starting experience to a stacked position. DaShaun White, Shane Whitter, Jamal Morris, and Weté are all expected to compete for playing time behind Asamoah. With the two deep at the inside linebacker spots expected to consist of upperclassmen, it’s an important season for the younger players to continue showing that they can be the next starter. The athletic Joseph Weté will fight for that opportunity this year in his new position.
