The Sooners picked up their second commitment of the Holiday Weekend as 2022 instate defensive back target Robert Spears-Jennings has announced his pledge to OU!
The match between Spears-Jennings and the Sooners came together quickly as he camped at OU on June 9th and received his offer later that afternoon while on an unofficial visit.
Following the offer, Super K commented on the situation on June 10th…
‘Would imagine this one won’t take long to wrap up. Between Spears-Jennings and Jayden Rowe, the Sooners could end up with two very big and very fast in-state dudes.’
Turns out K was spot on as Spears-Jennings committed to the Sooners less than a month after receiving his offer.
I caught up with Robert earlier and asked him what sealed the deal for him and OU. Robert said, “What really sealed the deal was coach Manning and coach Grinch. I love how real both of them are when they talk about developing me as an elite corner or safety.”
He added, “OU is a winning program and they never pressured me to make any decision, I just felt like this was the right time and the right move.”
An added note, when I asked him aside from Grinch and Manning who were key recruiters for Oklahoma…he mentioned Chip Viney and Patrick Fields. Pretty cool.
Spears-Jennings joins fellow in-state commit Jayden Rowe in the ’22 defensive back class.
