– Yesterday morning, we posted a feature on 2015 North Shore OL, Tyler Moore. For those who missed it, you can read it here. And then last night Tyler got some big news. Coach Wickline at Texas extended him an offer. We chatted with Tyler a bit after the offer was made, and he was obviously very excited but said he is still open and wants to consider his options.
Remember, as we’ve mentioned before, Coach Bedenbaugh has been recruiting Tyler since he was a sophomore and communicates with him nearly everyday. According to Tyler, he and Coach B have built a really good relationship. When we spoke to Tyler last week, it seemed to us that if OU and Texas were to offer they’d be top contenders. Well, he’s now holding a Texas offer so we’ll have to wait and see if OU enters the mix.
– In yesterday’s Open Post a few of you asked if new OL offer and TCU commit Cody Ford is interested in Oklahoma. We had a brief exchange with Ford last night and plan on having a more complete conversation later this week. Last night Ford mentioned that he already has a connection to OU, as he has visited the campus before. He also said that he does have interest in Oklahoma. How much? We’ll find out shortly, but there is definitely some interest and it helps of course that (again) Bedenbaugh stays in regular contact with Ford. We’ll have a write-up about Ford soon along with some additional recruiting notes.
– We checked in again with 2015 OLB Cassius Peat. He confirmed that he still has every intention of visiting Oklahoma this summer, but the date still has not been set.
– We also chatted with John Humphrey again yesterday. Humphrey was actually planning a trip to Notre Dame this weekend, however it sounds as though he has cancelled that. He confirmed that he is instead planning a second trip to Norman for this July, and said this his focus is squarely on the Sooners right now.
– UPDATE (6:55 pm): Interesting tweet from Josh Wariboko:
trying to get back up to Norman soon

Lots of positive info….
Thank you for the updates.
You got it! I’m personally very interested in what happens with Moore and Ford. Would love for OU to pull those two.
Super K..Have you had a chance to check out OU’s latest CB offer Frank Buncom? Thoughts?
based on his offer list, I’m going to say we get a “hey thanks for the offer, but I’m not really interested”. I would put my money on Stanford or Duke.
Ford’s tweet emphasized ‘THE’ Oklahoma Sooners so think it was a big one for him. What’s the hold up with an offer to Moore when Coach Bede has been building that relationship for almost 2 years? Any word/gut on some Oklahoma OL, Riley and Jackson?
JY projected Tyler as a big road grader type guard and Cody Ford is listed as an offensive tackle-be anxious to see what our man JY thinks. Unbelievable! JY previews Tyler Moore, Texas offers and now all 7 recruiting (gurus-?) on 247 Sports list Texas as the leader-go figure.
to be fair, Tyler said Texas was his dream school
You’re right. It was just the timing of JY’s evaluation. Kind of like Texas said uh-oh we better offer.
Was this before or since Coach Bede started putting in work? OU has had a number of top kids from tejas that said UT was their dream school but ended up at OU. Seems Trevor Knight even grew up a big fan. But it would not surprise me at all to see him don the burnt orange.
According to ESPN Position U Rankings
QB’s – Oklahoma #1
RB’s- Oklahoma #2
WR’s- Oklahoma #7
Oline- Oklahoma #4
D-Line- Oklahoma #4
Linebacker- Oklahoma #3
Defensive Back- Oklahoma #2
You should make this a separate post on its own as recruits need to see what Oklahoma & Bob Stoops have accomplished over the years in so many positions both Offense & Defense.
Do you have a link to this Jason? Would be interested in seeing the full list.
QB’s – http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/95525/position-u-quarterbacks
RB’s- http://espn.go.com/blog/sec/post/_/id/84311/position-u-running-backs
WR’s- http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/95524/position-u-wide-receivers
Oline- http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/95529/position-u-offensive-line
I am sorry but any list that does not include Texas A&M with all there
tradition and prestige cannot be trusted 🙂
Lollll gold.
?
One line in the RB section kind of burned a little: “…helping the Hogs barely edge Oklahoma for the top spot.” Meaning OU was very close to being proclaimed #1 in both QB and RB.
Quite an accolade indeed.
Jd runnels takes credit for ou being number 2. He said Peyton Hillis went to Arkansas because he didn’t want to sit behind runnels for 3 years. Obviously joking
Just got done reading the articles. It really is incredible what OU and Stoops have done. It’s sad that my sooners get overlooked because they are not in the SEC. However I think that trend is starting to change a little. After the Sugar Bowl and after my sooners bring home #8 the sooner magic will spread across the U.S. like fire. Regarding the ESPN Position U rankings, you cannot deny how good Stoops and company have been over the years. You hear that cowhorn and stoolwater fans!!
The only list OU was not on was kicker……Now if they had a Special Teams one the Sooners might have made that one especially considering we had one Antonio Perkins that was mercurial at PR and had some pretty darn KR’s as well. Oh well, can’t be on every list.
We didn’t make the Tight End list. We would be 16th though.
http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/95528/position-u-tight-ends
The only thing that kind of sticks with me on this, is that we rank so high on all these lists, and only have one crystal football to show for it.
Hey brainiacs I know it’s a little off topic but has anyone heard
anymore from the Jaylon Lane front? I know last I read yall had reported
that Stoops(MIke) had gone down to visit him to clear up any
misunderstanding about what position he would play. He seemed very high
on OU before the “stoolwater” flip, so I’m just wondering if something
else made him switch/do yall think we could sway him back our way etc.?
Thanks for the time/work you brainiacs put into this site. Us sooner
fans live on this stuff.
I’ve spoken to Jaylon a number of times since then but probably more about football and other stuff than recruiting. Last we spoke he was still in contact with OU. I think at this point it’s all about whether he makes it up there on a visit. He had visited OSU once before but has never been to Norman. If he makes it up to Norman then all bets are off imo.
Thanks for the info K, want you guys to know I along with many others that read this site “religiously” really thank yall for all the work and time you put into this.
If this site was MJ then my initials would be DGB.
haha
Thanks Chase! It’s fun for us too and we appreciate you reading!
Any news on the upcoming board meeting and stadium renovations? I saw on Landtheives that this link ( http://www.boydstreet.com/home/2014/6/12/ou-football-stadium-expansion.html ) was posted detailing four proposals. Not sure of the legitimacy of the link but it was at least highly thought out. Also, nothing was mentioned as to what becomes of the Switzer Center.
I hadn’t seen this but I’d have no reason to doubt it. The coaches have been telling recruits for a while that major plans were in works. I remember one recruit telling him a while back that he was told the current practice fields would be converted to a new indoor facility. I don’t know whether that’s going to happen but clearly there are big plans in the works. Thanks for posting this brother! Fun and interesting read!
Thanks again for all your input with the recruits. It has been mentioned how much Bedenbaugh and Montgomery keep in touch with these athletes-so give yourself a pat on the back. Your honesty and confidentially with the recruits suits you well.
Thanks for the link, things are changing.
It sounds awesome! I would love to see some renderings.
While not a big fan of Wikipedia, I found their page on Owen Field informative.
Indeed…
Why doesn’t this surprise me?
Trademark board rules against Washington Redskins name.
If this is considered offensive, would renaming them “Whiteskins” be acceptable?
I am a proud Delphinidae and I find the Dolphins to be extremely insensitive and hateful term. #Changethename #tolerance #CompleteBS #OverthetopPC #WGAF
Do you call a dolphin by any other name than a dolphin? Because your attempt to be cleverly sarcastic needs work. Unless you walk around calling people of different races by their slur names.
Doesn’t really matter. I have Cherokee in me and all this PC Sh** is getting old rather quickly. Im sorry you didn’t like my joke, but it is my feelings toward this situation. Just F****** stupid.
When having respect for your fellow man is called being pc Like it’s a big hassle it is a sad day indeed.
I don’t want to argue. You have your views and I respect that. I have mine and I am sticking with them. Have a good day.
Agreed. I am Choctaw. My great Grandpa was a code talker. Redskin does not offend me in any way. People are too sensitive. Well not really people just like to whine and stir the pot, that is what this is all about.
What about the Ole Miss Rebels? Rebels fought FOR slavery and the term “ole miss” was used to describe a slave owners wife. Need to be yelling about that.
Could they change their name to the Kikes? Or Blackskins?
How about thieves, vandals or robbers.
Why are you picking these words?
Because the team is located in Washington D.C.
Awesome, reply.
Ironically, based on their history, a lot of Native Americans would agree.
Some things never change.
Lol!
Yes!
I just really don’t get this. I’m almost half Choctaw, my Dad is almost full blood. Neither of us find this name offensive. I mean hell, we live in a state along with thousands of other Native Americans and the state’s name means “red people!” Its ridiculous. Lol.
But that can’t be, we are told that all citizens of Native American ancestry are offended beyond belief that the “Redskins” name is used.
Lol you were told wrong sir. Ha
Thanks for setting me straight, bruh.
Haha those guys look super offended btw lmao
I’ll take those brave heroes word for it anyday.
This is kind of like saying “I have a black friend who lets me say the N-word”. Some people are offended by it, and it’s because of a long history of genocide and murder. It doesn’t really matter if natives are wearing branded merchandise, that doesn’t mean they’re not offended by it. That’s similar to me posting a picture of DeAndre Jordan in a Clippers jersey claiming he’s obviously not offended by Sterling’s remarks.
So, they should change the name of the state away from “Oklahoma”? In your analogy, they should take away all artists legal protections against copyright issues, that use the pejorative for blacks, in any iteration (I’m guessing you are not okay with the other forms of “Redskin” being acceptable), in their music, tv shows, comedy routines, etc,. And, why stop there? I am offended that movies use disparaging terms for Jesus, and use God’s name in vain, so I should now be able to copy and sell their works for free. Somehow, I don’t think Obama/Reid/liberals are going to tell Jay Z/Kanye/50 that they cannot use the term, and then be protected from their work being copied.
Nobody ever called a whole group of people Oklahoma to disparage them.
Texas fans do it all the time. We should take away their licensing protection. The problem with this political wussification is where will it stop? I can be offended by the “Giants” because I am tall… Don’t judge my being offended, as that offends me.
Okies during the Dust Bowl?
No but you better believe if someone didn’t stand up for themselves bush/romney/conservatives would have kept on telling them they couldn’t vote, or sit down in a restaurant, or use a certain water fountain, or look them in the eye, or keep picking that cotton. ..
Do your homework, Sir. It was the Democrats that did, and still do, support racism. Pretty sure you, nor any of your friends has ever been told they had to “pick cotton”. But, nice red herring.
I’m not a fish. And this isn’t the Republican party of the old days, and read carefully the point being if my mother, father, grandparents would have sat idle and not said anything those things would STILL be the norm today.
I don’t know you, and this isn’t the forum. I get what your intention is, I think, and you have a valid point. Maybe, we can meet at a tailgate, have a few beers, and dig deeper. Until then, take care, Sir.
Now you’re talking my language I’m sure when it comes to OU football we agree on a lot. This is just a subject I feel strongly on. When my black employees use the N word I take action and tell them it’s not allowed. As far as politics I’ve learned they’re the same gang in different colors. ONE thing I’m sure you will agree with me on is that it’s June 18th and Texas still sucks!
You are full of crap. Conservatives want to take away your right to vote? Either you are lying, or you are completely delusional. You tell me which.
Leatherneck I need you to read, process then reply. Thank you.
I have read. I have processed. I have replied. Your statement was:
“No but you better believe if someone didn’t stand up for themselves bush/romney/conservatives would have kept on telling them they couldn’t vote, or sit down in a restaurant, or use a certain water fountain, or look them in the eye, or keep picking that cotton.”
Please tell me what I have missed. Thank you.
The rest of the conversation
Sir, I have read the entire conversation, thank you. You started with implying conservatives want to deny blacks the right to vote, and then followed up that sentiment with the declaration that this “isn’t the Republican party of the old days.” (And thank goodness your parents and grandparents stood up to those Bush/Romney types or things would still be the same.)
One thing that is clear from your comments is that you engage in bigotry while chastising others for perceived bigotry. The other thing that is clear is that you have no response when someone points your bigotry out to you. I have done precisely this, and you have simply implied something is wrong with my reading comprehension. You need not bother responding anymore….at this point I know all I need to know about you.
Can you point out one bigoted comment I said? You are delusional
I just pointed them out. In detail.
Please follow your own advice: Read, process, reply. Thank You.
You pointed out nothing if you mean me saying bush/cheaney/conservatives that was along political lines. Nice try though.
If you are talking about the facts that blacks were not allowed to vote, sit in restaurants etc. Then you need a history łesson.
Clearly neither of you are taking your advice about reading. Super k posted saying this has no business here so if y’all are done measuring can we get back to sooner football?
I believe you are right. But mine is bigger lol
You say I’m a bigot for pointing out family members who stood up to injustice sorry things aren’t like the good ole days but I’m proud of my heritage and will not apologize for bringing up facts about the civil rights movement. It’s people like you who call others racist for not acting like America’s problems never existed. And I say again point out 1 bigoted comment ive made.
For someone who urges others to read and process, you sure could use some lessons yourself. First I never implied that people standing up for their rights is bigotry….this statement of yours is quite obviously absurd on its face. As for you being proud of your heritage, I think that’s great. In my opinion everyone should be proud of their heritage. However, that is beside the point here.
Bigotry is typically defined as an attitude where prejudice causes someone to view others of another “group” with suspicion and distrust, thus assigning vile or suspect motives to said group. Ergo, your attempt to label “Bush/Romney/conservatives” as racists is textbook ideological bigotry – a mindset which is further evidenced by your statement that “people like me” call others racists for “not acting like America’s problems never existed.” Another sign of your bigotry since you obviously know nothing about me but are quite willing nevertheless to shoehorn me into some preconceived box you have already built in your mind for people who don’t think politically like you do. So, in answer to your question, this is the bigotry I was referring to.
Now please tell me this: Since you accuse “Bush/Romney/conservatives” of racism and wanting to deny blacks the right to vote, what does that say of our esteemed JC Watts? Or do you perhaps have a different kind of aspersion you like to cast at conservatives who happen to be black?
Dude let it go. Exchange numbers or something if you wanna talk about this stuff. This isn’t anything but a sooners/football related site.
Fellas definitely appreciate y’all being on the site and I don’t mean to diminish the importance of your discussion but, like y’all, we’ve got a lot of work to do and the time we spend on this site we try to use it to gather the information. So as Zack said let’s please just end the discussion. Much appreciated.
I do apologize for engaging in political discussion in this forum. I would never have initiated this conversation myself. But I do not take kindly to reckless charges of racism. I don’t usually respond to peoples political opinions in a forum like this, but some things I am simply sick of and not willing to let pass anymore. Having said that, I would much prefer to talk football.
I understand man. I look forward to reading your opinions on the upcoming season.
You are right Zack and sorry to the football brainiacs. Ive been dealing with racist people so long it gets old some people will never change their values. So football talk from here out.
I love JC Watts he’s my cousin. Like i said above my inclusion of them was a political rebuttal rather than racial but that’s all you see. And didn’t you write ” at this point I know all I need to know about you”? But you know nothing about me but you in your own words ” shoehorn me into done preconceived box you have already built”.
Your inclusion of them was nothing of the kind. Whether you understand it or not, when you say “Bush/Romney/Conservatives” would have denied blacks the right to vote, that is most definitely a statement with serious racial ramifications. This is obvious, and should not need to be pointed out.
As for “knowing all I need to know”, that was in merely in regard to the subject of bigotry that I was discussing. Anyone can see from your words, that you have a problem with bigotry towards people who don’t hold your political views. Uncomfortable as it may be, that is simply an observable fact.
Like I said I don’t do either side of politics. And you can keep your racist views not trying to change them but understand you won’t flip my v words to your agenda.
You don’t do either side of politics, but those evil conservatives still want to deny folks the right to vote. Whatever. I’m not asking anymore: You are deluded. And the way you slipped in the parting dig calling me a racist was cute. I rest my case.
I didn’t slip anything in,I didn’t write it in Aramaic I’ve after being called a bigot so many times is clear you have a problem.
Whatever you say pal. I think we’re done here.
Definitely.
And yes, the statement that “bush/Romney/conservatives” want to tell blacks in this country they can’t vote or sit in a restaurant is offensive. That you don’t recognize your own hypocrisy is appalling.
I understand it can be used as a derogatory term, as are too many other terms covering too many issues and people to deal with.
Considering that the Navajo in the above image traveled all the way from Arizona knowing they were to be honored at a “Redskins” game tells me that they weren’t offended. If they were they would have just stayed home. I have know idea who DeAndre Jordan is, but I’m assuming he plays for the Clippers, so using his wearing a team jersey as an analogy is missing the point.
You completely missed the point of the picture with your analogy man???
Thank you my thoughts exactly. Hey its no longer offensive because big higg doesn’t get offended by the slur case closed every other native Americans feelings are irrelevant.
Please. My dad was half Cherokee. I don’t know one person of Native American descent who is offended by this. What is so offensive about the word “Redskin” anyway? How does that in any way compare to the N-word?
Agreed. Redskins was a term that came from the Natives themselves to separate them from others based on skin color (and that was way back when racism against natives would’ve been far more likely than today). In other words, to them it was no different then calling Caucasians “white”, African Americans “black” and so on. That’s why there are many natives who don’t have a problem with it. It is in no way similar to the N-word.
They’re both words based on descriptions that have become racial slurs due to their colloquial use? They’re remarkably similar. And for every person who knows someone who isn’t offended, someone else knows someone who is. I have a friend who is 100% native, and she IS offended.
I understand your point, but your facts are simply not true. There have been very few polls conducted among Natives to find out their opinions on this, but those that have been done have shown 90% of those polled couldn’t care less.
Here is one article that sheds light on the subject. Not saying this alone is definitive, but from the very beginning this debate has been driven largely by only a handful of individuals….not majority sentiment.
http://washington.cbslocal.com/2013/10/08/how-many-native-americans-think-redskins-is-a-slur/
Ahh, selective statistics. Always good for political debates. This topic is dead. The one’s who think it’s not racist probably grew up around people who referred to non-whites as “colored people,” so it probably doesn’t sound bad to them. That’s fine, but claiming you know someone who’s “half this” or “100% that” who doesn’t mind is a bit pointless. What you seem to be missing the point on is that this term WAS racially motivated to determine skin color as to segregate an entire race, or even used on WANTED posters used to (attempt) eradicate entire civilizations within this country.
It wasn’t coined by Natives, it was coined by whites. It was used as a way of identifying natives. For someone trying to say that “n*gger” and “redskin” isn’t even in the same category, you’ve clearly missed your history classes. They’re both derogatory remarks when you refer to someone by skin color. They are one in the same, but those who get upset about it make a bigger fuss about it, while the others are silenced on reservations. So your “polls” are about as useful as asking a KKK member what they think, because most people who are truly involved in their heritage, those who take offense to this foul use of the word, are not being polled. They’re stuck in the poorest environments in our country. They’re not on CBS.com doing polls. I don’t care if you’re half native or know someone who’s half native, because they are most likely walking around the same neighborhoods as you, with similar cultural behaviors and skin color, not stuck on the reservation.
Your rant/post was long and a little tiring, so I just got a few of the highlights: Something about those that don’t think the word “redskin” is racist are themselves backward racist hillbillies, and something about polling Native Americans being the same as polling the KKK…..all amusing to be sure, but frankly there really wasn’t much of anything substantive in this. The one thing I definitely noted is you have no evidence of any kind….just your opinion. You may not like the poll I cited, and I don’t for a moment think one poll settles any issue, but you don’t even have that much.
I’m open to hear other views on this subject, so long as they aren’t insult-laden rants like yours and so long as they are actually based on something besides one person’s subjective opinion. Please come up with some hard evidence next time you want to brand everybody with a different opinion as racist. Thanks.
http://indiancountrytodaymedianetwork.com/2012/11/13/redskins-not-so-black-and-white
I agreed with some posts above, but this is a silly argument within this image. You know how this image was taken? PHOTO OPP for the ‘Redskins’, just so they could say “Oh, look, apparently Native Americans don’t mind at all.’ Silly, generalistic attempt to offset the reality that the name isn’t ‘PC’ these days. If you polled real Natives who live on the Res, they would not accept this name. Of course, most white people with a little bit of native blood, who live off the Res and don’t have to deal with racist remarks or even worse, they don’t see the problem with it lol
http://deadspin.com/the-redskins-honor-navajo-code-talkers-still-go-by-re-1471662424
Some of the tweets here are amazingly accurate. I can guarantee you that Dan Snyder wouldn’t have the balls to shake the hands of these men and say “Thanks for coming, Redskins!” …
Actually, whether or not it’s offensive is a divided issue among Natives. Some see it as honoring and remembering the history of Natives in America. Others, like the groups speaking out against it, may see it as a derogatory term. The term itself was actually coined by Natives to differentiate themselves among white, black, etc, men. So the terms roots were never with the intention of being offensive. It’s very unlikely that you’ll find someone, no matter their color (I noticed you only signaled out “white people? why is that?) who goes up to natives and calls them “redskins.” The football team, however, uses the term in positive light: Redskins, warriors, a part of American History, something to be proud of as some Natives have pointed out. The Red Messa Navajo reservation’s High School Football team are called the Redskins. Their superintendent said this of the name: “We just don’t think that (name) is an issue,” Yazzie said. “There
are more important things like busing our kids to school, the water
settlement, the land quality, the air that surrounds us. Those are
issues we can take sides on.”
This isn’t some overwhelming issue in which they all find it offensive, and I don’t see why the Redskins should change just because some Natives (not all), and lots of fishing-for-votes-politicians, find it offensive.
I said “white people,” because most “Native Americans” who don’t see it as an issue are actually MUCH more privileged ‘Natives’ who are also white with a little Native American, much like the owners of Casinos. And no, the term was not coined by Natives, it was coined by white people and later used by a few “English speaking” (broken english, which meant they were not fully fluent) Natives. This doesn’t prove your point very well.
Again, if you were to poll natives who were born and raised amongst other natives, within the reservations that they’ve been confined to, you will not see much “division” amongst natives. The majority will let you know that they do not appreciate the term, which is WHY it has come to light in the first place.
Actually, it was coined by natives (http://indiancountrytodaymedianetwork.com/2012/11/13/redskins-not-so-black-and-white)
Again, there are many Natives who don’t have issue with the name. But regardless, my point is Redskins should not and do not have to change their name because some Natives find it offensive (even though the terms origins were never intended as such and was used by natives in a time when racism against natives was far more likely).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redskin_(slang)#Historic_use
Again, it was coined by white people, just like Indian was coined by white people.
To say that there are “many Natives who don’t have issue” with the name is like there are many Black people who don’t have issue with the “N word”. Of course you can find some. Many don’t realize what it means to have it removed from today’s society. It’s no longer 1800 where Natives don’t understand English, nor did they have any power to politically correct those “coined terms” such as Redskins. Now they do, because we live in a much less “white powered society” than we did in the past. When you associate words such as Redskins, which is what was printed on “Wanted Dead or Alive” posters throughout the US in the 1800’s, with today’s Natives, you’re basically saying it’s OK to say “n*gger” when referring to black people. Do you refer to non-whites as “colored people” these days? I could only hope not, but that would be racist as well…
No one said ALL Native Americans are offended. However, I happen to be one that is. I’m not quite sure how someone from another race can tell me what slurs I should or should not be offended by. Do you think an African American would be offended by a team called the Blackfaces or Watermelon Lovers? Redskins is the most offensive word I can think of to describe my people. The fact that this has been the teams name for decades is irrelevant. Natives have objected to this name for decades and the pleas for change have gone ignored. If the name is offensive to some, it should be changed. Period.
I’ve always thought of the redskins name to be interpreted in more of a positive manner. I appreciate your input and would like to know how most native Americans feel about the name. To me even though redskin can be a negative I’ve always thought the team projected the name as like Indian warriors.
In my opinion, people just need something to whine about. Lol. I’ve been called just about every Native American associated name under the sun. Doesn’t bother me at all. The redskins used to be my favorite team when I was younger because the name was associated with Native Americans! Lol!
There is Cherokee on my mother’s side of the family.
You want to know what offends me? The twenty dollar bill, it has Jackson’s image on it, he the instigator of the Trail of Tears.
On that, we can agree.
Excellent.
We can disagree, but I always strive to do so agreeably.
Lmfao!!!
No seriously, just the thought of Jackson’s actions really offends me.
The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the five civilized tribes on the Indian Relocation Act and Jackson spit in their face saying “The Supreme Court has ruled, let’s see them enforce it.”
Thousands upon thousands lost everything and thousands more died, all because of Jackson and yet one of the most common forms of currency bears his image.
If the new standard is “no one” should be offended, then I demand Jackson’s image be removed from the twenty dollar bill.
Well yeah good point. Kinda glad – no disrespect to those that died on the trail – that we landed OK tho. I love it here. Lol
I know what you mean, I probably wouldn’t be here either had it not happened…still…#newimageforthe20
The “no one should be offended” argument is a red herring. There’s a long documented history of tribes being offended by the nickname.
I don’t know…if anyone walked into the our Council or Board Meetings, Stomp dances, Pow Wow or even the classrooms and started used the term Redskin to tribal members, it probably wouldn’t be viewed favorably.
I doubt they would, and it would be completely inappropriate.
This is a sports team we are talking about that was founded 82 years ago and trademarked its name 22 years ago. For the trademark to now be rejected is just silly. Personally, I have never used the term and at the same time hearing their name mentioned never gave me cause for concern. That this has suddenly become an issue in the past two years screams agenda, not offensiveness.
Actually, it’s been an issue for a long time. Heck, the trademark was revoked for the same reason in 1999 before a federal court overturned the decision due to lack of standing.
Did not know that.
Who was it that revoked it without standing?
Social media, Young People and Time itself has allowed society to become more aware of itself and what’s going on. It’s not like is was 40, 30 or even 10 years ago when newspapers were the major source of information. Now cell phones are everywhere.
Just so sick of this PC crap and everybody who runs around trying to find a reason to be offended.
The real issue here is that the Patent Office just revoked their trademark because they deemed it politically incorrect; are we becoming the U.K.?
Any Oklahoma H.S. coaches out there? I was told by my H.S. coach that OSAA has passed a new rule that says Offensive linemen can NOT lead witht heir facemask. I have two sons (11 and 13) which I figure both will be linemen and I want to start them out on technique, everywhere I read and videos I watch teach three point contact off the line, two hands and facemask, but If that is a rule then I need to change things. My coach was not 100% on it, that’s why I am asking here. Also it seems if that is an Oklahoma HS rule it would hurt the recruiting of our state’s linemen, they will be behind the rest of the nation. any and all information on this is greatly appreciated.
What you said near the end is the first thing that popped in my head. Unless, the NCAA and NFL adopt this rule, the OSAA has just screwed thousands of kids in the system. That is a MAJOR, major change that has drastic adverse implications, and it’s an indication to me just how ass-backwards the OSAA is. I’ve heard others complain before about other things, but this is just ridiculous.
My coaches said they heard this in a coaches meeting for Class A football, and they weren’t even sure if what they thought they heard was right, it dumbstruck them, asking themselves, “did I hear that right?”.
It awesome too watch HS Olineman from Texas cut outside of the free blocking zone. Because of the OSSAA rules that limit lineman in OK HS ball from where and who they can cut that lineman won’t be taught that art until college ball. I notice the Tyler Moore film that he cut a Force player. The UIL allows it per federation rules. Every crew enforces the cut rule differently because there is such gray area in what is considered the free blocking zone.
I just read through the OSSAA new rule changes and 2014 points of officiating emphasis unless it (leading with the face mask for OLineman) falls under the new targeting rules that make it illegal to initiate contact with the helmet I didn’t see it. Generally HS coaches learn about the new rules at the rules mtg at the coaches clinic in late July unless a memorandum was sent out by the OSSAA. I haven’t seen it so it might fall under the new definition of the targeting rule. Myself I would be careful teaching a Olineman to lead with the face mask versus punching the tit. It’s hard enough to keep HS lineman from burying their heads anyway. Kids that bury their heads are toast. The most important thing at contact is their punch and the poisoning of their hands inside. Getting your hands inside is VERY important for leverage.
Another point about using your face mask and burying the head. Gap schemes are becoming extinct. Most people run Zone. Especially IZ we combo level one too level two. Depending what front their in two Olineman will work half man on level one and come off to level two depending on what gap the LBer is filling or scrapping. You Olineman have to have their eyes up too see where the LBer is fitting
First, we are ALL OU FANS no matter of our opinions on other topics. I agree and disagree with some of the stuff said but I’m more subdued about these topics. Therefore, let’s enjoy the whole gang who posts. Also, lets remember, we love this site which provides us with all of this rich information. Keep feeding the monster. Bud, Berry, & Bob.
Great work as always guys!
Have you guys heard any off season workout info? I know it’s hard to come by, just curious.
CJ O’Grady announced he is committing to Arky. Didn’t know if it was known.
That’s an interesting note Kevin! Definately curious to know what effect that might have on Will Gragg and perhaps eventually Austin Cantrell.
What about Jace Sternberger of Kingfisher. Does this open the door a little for him?
Maybe Cantrell will see the light and come join Sooner Nation!!
Thanks for the updates as always. As far as finding under the radar kids and following them no one does it better than TFB. I use one pay site currently and the info as far as recruiting is a step behind. A lot of times tfb followers on that board have to ask what the admin know about a recruit or if they have any inside info. One time they were asked about James proche to which the admin responded with this:
Yes OU went by his school but that was a routine drop by as OU coaches were working the Dallas. He is a solid player, but OU is chasing better corners right now, but he will be a player that OU follows.
Clearly insider info at its finest. I just wanted to show people that TFB is better than the pay sites because this is their passion and it’s obvious.
Thanks Zack! Perhaps he meant to “WR”
Fellas, please do me a personal favor and let’s keep the topics sports related and let’s be respectful. I don’t have time right now to wade through all the debates below and moderate but just glancing at it I noticed a lot of it was unrelated to sports and some of it became hostile. Not trying to be disrespectful to anyone…just asking everyone to “police” themselves and if you start to notice you’ve set up or stepped into a fight…just delete your comment. Also, please remember to be civil regardless of the disagreement. Thank you much.
thxs sk……….I started to jump into the fray on the ‘skins thread, then I remembered that one of the things I like about this site is, or has mostly been, sticking to football related stuff and not turn into an oui situation where it degenerates into politics, etc…..thxs for the reminder
Thanks rp!
Agreed. Jumped into the fray and had to stop myself after reading SK’s comment. I don’t want this site’s comments to become like the forums on other sites. What I love about posting here is that everyone is very respectful!
I would bet good money that not one of the below posters have changed their opinion.
Sorry for even bringing it up, Super K.
My bad and will not be repeated.
No prob bro. You’re a great poster.
Thanks, man.
Y’all have created a very special place here for OU fans.
Please Please Please don’t let this site become another whine and moan site! There are more than enough ‘Sooner Football’ sites available for those with overinflated, I have to be right egos. I can’t wait for the entertaining information shared here everyday. Thanks so much for keeping it real and about football Brainiacs!!!!

So can we all get along and back to loving OU FOOTBALL. BOOMER Can I get a ………
SOONER
this is interesting………..http://oklahoma.247sports.com/Bolt/Weathersby-still-looking-at-visits-29199233
There’s still time to flip him but these kids need to know we ain’t waiting on no one.
Gotta give it up to wariboko. Not sure what the deal was yesterday but probably just a kid trying to fit in but find his own way at the same time.
Also something out of the picture is john kolar of Norman north who agrees. Still time to keep him in Norman if Gibson passes on QBU
Thanks Zack…I just posted this above…didn’t see your comment till just now.
Same here it takes my phone like 20-30 minutes to show the updates to the posts. I can see it’s updated before I click but it doesn’t show right away. Not sure if others have that issue?
Time for a new phone if you ask me
Even on a lap top, updates don’t show without a screen refresh.
In all seriousness you’re a genius I didn’t know I had a refresh button on my phones internet. And now I see the update
Unless you have-my stupendous wireless in the sticks of west texass, then even refresh doesn’t help! #LogInProbs
Worry about that after you get indoor plumbing. 🙂
Funny. How’d you know? It’s already hit 110 here… Ugh
Yeah I have that problem too. But we got a new web guy that’s working on some new things for the site so I’ll ask him to see if he can address that.
regarding your web guy–I find that no matter which order I choose–oldest first, or newest first, the comments and replies still line up out of order sometimes, making the discussion hard to follow on occasion. Maybe that could be improved. Apologies if I’m just repeating something that’s been said many times, but it is a bit of an issue, for me anyway. Compliments, and thanks again, btw, for all the great work here.
Another “SIKE!” coming?
lol
And all this time I thought it was “PSYCH.”
Live and learn.
I must have missed this. What did he say, that he later said “sike” to?
Dear Josh,
So?
Exactly
Lol my thoughts exactly
Really, Wariboko? Or is there another “Sike” tweet coming soon?
I guess he sees Oklahoma moving on other targets and realize they are not going to cater. Believe it or not kids like cool coaches but respect and want to play for the Sabans and Stoops of the game.
Hit the nail on the head. Wariboko interested in OU again, Lampkin has OU 2nd among his leaders, Weathersby talking about an official OU visit, Humphrey planning a return trip to Norman. Good things happen to those who wait. Don’t you just love this thing called recruiting.
Yes alsolove how the OU staff won’t cave to unproven high school kids Ridiculous demands.
To be honest lampkin isn’t all that impressive no disrespect to the kid.
