The Path to Norman

Seth McGowan, out of Mesquite, Texas, was one of the top-rated running backs in the 2020 class. His first offer came in the spring of 2017, when McGowan was just a freshman in high school. He took his first visit to Norman in early 2018, shortly after receiving his offer from the Sooners. TFB’s own Super K spoke with his high school coach, who gave extraordinarily high praise about the young man’s work ethic. Offers came in from programs like Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, Georgia, Michigan, Texas… you name it. However, the Sooners stayed after him until a commitment in the summer of 2019.

Career so Far

McGowan was an early enrollee this year, although that was obviously different with COVID. TFB routinely reported how excited the staff was about Seth’s potential.James reported just last month that, out of the young backs, McGowan has stood out the most.

2020 Season

The running back room looks much different than expected in 2020. As it stands, T.J. Pledger, Marcus Major, and McGowan will be the first three guys earning snaps this Saturday, while Rhamondre Stevenson will certainly see his share once he returns from suspension. McGowan is such a powerful back, already at 211 as a true freshman. The depth chart lists him behind Pledger and Major, but Coach Riley is known to deviate greatly from the depth chart. Sooner fans know that Seth McGowan has a lot to offer and will be a powerful force in the backfield for OU this season and several to come.
