The Path to Norman
David Ugwoegbu, out of Katy, Texas, was a highly ranked prospect with offers from Alabama, Texas A&M, Florida, and other top schools. With his first offer coming over a year and a half before his signing day, he had plenty of time to take his pick of schools. Despite visits to plenty of Texas schools, Lincoln Riley and the Sooners held the lead in his recruitment for some time. Alex Grinch visited the young man in January, one short month before his signing day; he committed later that day.

Career so Far
Ugwoegbu played in every game as a true freshman. He was in a reserve spot throughout the first six games. After the season-ending injury to Jon-Michael Terry, Nik Bonitto and Ugwoegbu split the snaps at RUSH. His athleticism was a big selling point as he found his way into the opposing backfield on several occasions.

2020 Season
Ugwoegbu put on 20 pounds since last fall; at 251, Brynden Walker and he are the biggest linebackers on the roster. Out of the seven inside linebackers listed on yesterdayβs depth chart, Ugwoegbu is 19 pounds heavier than any of the others (Robert Barnes listed at 232). He also transitioned to inside linebacker; while the staff toyed with the idea in the spring, the injury to Caleb Kelly seemed to push the move to a more permanent one. The depth chart listed Ugwoegbu behind DaShaun White at the MIKE linebacker. While White and Brian Asamoah are certainly deserving of their starting roles. Ugwoegbu is going to be on the field quite a bit this fall. The more comfortable he is at inside backer, the harder itβs going to be to keep a 6β4β, 251 pound, athletic force off the field. Sooner fans should be excited to see more of David Ugwoegbu this fall.
