100 Days to Football Time in Oklahoma: #90 Neville Gallimore

The Path to Norman

Gallimore committed to the Sooners way back in January 2015. The “Big Canadian” chose OU over Ohio State, Florida State, Oregon, and several other top programs. Jerry Montgomery was his lead recruiter at the time and a big reason Gallimore chose the Sooners.

Career so Far

Gallimore has had an up and down career so far. He redshirted in 2015, then found himself a steady contributor in 2016, starting several games. 2017 looked to be a breakout year, and he started the first five games. Then, injuries began to slow him down and he never fully got back to form.

2018 had Gallimore starting in every game but one (injury). He was more effective and ended with an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention, but still didn’t wreck havoc like Sooner fans hoped to see. While injuries have certainly slowed the big man at times, a big reason for this was the overall defensive scheme, which will look to be different in 2019.

2019 Season

This new Grinch defense will be built on getting penetration into the backfield, changing the line of scrimmage, and forcing the quarterback off his spot, all while destroying running backs behind the line of scrimmage. That should be just the ticket for the linemen. Gallimore will look to be the headliner of an interior line that will also showcase Marquise Overton and Dillon Faamatau. Neville played at 330 last year, but has worked hard this spring to lose weight and get into even better shape.

TFB has heard that he is quicker and faster than he has ever been at OU, even running a 4.78 40. This could be an All-Big 12 type season for Gallimore with his natural talent, improved shape, and new scheme.
