Sooners News Daily 4.8.14

Congrats, UConn. You may have a b-ball national title (or two, depending on what happens tonight) this year, but I bet the sting of that 2011 Fiesta Bowl still hasn’t worn off yet!

FOOTBALL

While they may generally be pretty brief, I’ve enjoyed these All-Access videos from Sooner Sports TV. The latest edition features Eric Striker. (Sooner Sports)

Mizzou’s Dorial Green-Beckham has been suspended indefinitely. All the talent in the world, but multiple off-the-field issues during his time in Columbia kind of (stress, kind of) makes me glad OU didn’t land him. (Twitter)

RECRUITING

Tennessee picked up a commitment from a four star dual-threat 2015 QB, which could potentially help OU’s chances with Torrance Gibson. (al.com)

Sooners (finally) offered five star Cali DB, Iman Marshall. (Twitter)

OU also offered a five-star 2015 Cali defensive tackle. (Twitter)

BASKETBALL

A very early Top 25 has the Sooners all the way up at No. 12. (Lost Lettermen)

Here’s another Top 25 with OU at No. 16. (CBS Sports)

And another with OU at No. 20. (ESPN)

Brace yourselves, Marcus Smart is declaring for the NBA Draft. (NewsOK)

I can’t tell you for sure it was the embarrassment of picking Ok. State to make the national championship game that is forcing Digger Phelps into retirement, but wouldn’t that be the right thing to do? (ESPN)

The official end to the college basketball season, One Shining Moment.

OTHER

The haven’t invented a face palm meme yet worthy of something like this. (Deadspin)

OU Baseball’s Sheldon Neuse was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. (Big 12)

Is it just me, or were no punches thrown in that Brazil match — only flying jiu-jitsu kicks??

    Losing Out on 100k

One Shining Moment has to be one of the worst pieces of recorded music in history. There just aren’t real words to describe just how corny it is.

Man, Kahlil McKenzie sure isn’t shy about recruiting other guys on behalf of Oklahoma.

Hoping K can confirm once he gets back in the country, but hearing Fehoko is unlikely to make it to Norman this wknd, unfortunately.

    • Doobie74OU says:

Bad news about Fehoko! We need that one Big Fish Recruit to commit and start recruiting other kids like Mixon did! As you posted below it could be Kahil McKenzie with all the praise he is giving out! We need one or two Recruits out there talking about OU to other Recruits! If we could get Barnett and McKenzie to commit and start recruiting people it could be huge!

  • thedeez says:

I’m not sure Dorial gets in the same trouble at Norman. If I recall correctly, on his official visit at Mizzou he was taken to a bar with some players and got in a little trouble for that. Hindsight is 20/20, because now it looks like a sign of the influences he’d be around.

My thought is that OU and Stoops do their best to create a great atmosphere wholesome type around their program, but my thought is that this kid is just trouble waiting to happen and it wouldn’t make any difference what campus he was on. Sure glad we didn’t get him as this kind of kid is a team chemistry destroyer.

NewsOK is reporting Chad Lindsay is visiting this weekend. Was wondering if he would have 1 or 2 years to play and what our chances were and really how good he is

    • Jordan Esco says:

Don’t take this for as snarky as it will probably come off, but NewsOK isn’t reporting anything, CBS Sports’ Jerry Fowler is.

As for Lindsay, he has graduated so he’d be immediately eligible and has one year of eligibility remaining.

Most are expecting him to wind up at Michigan as his former OC from Bama is now in Ann Arbor.

I understand what ur sayin bud, thats just were I saw it first, I think h could help just not sure how much or where

        • Jordan Esco says:

They’ve been doing that a lot lately I feel like. Apparently they’re really desperate for traffic I guess.

  • JrsySooner says:

OK who is the QB 2016 from Jrsy who likes OU so I can check him out….
Anyone heard of Hunter Daly from Neptune N.J. Just talked to his coach and he said he is NFL bound, extremly accurate and a long leg…and hasnt really be looked at by anyone except Hawaii.

    • Jeremy Phillips says:

Is it Guarantano.? the NJ QB.. I think from Bergen Catholic..

      • JrsySooner says:

Thanks Jeremy I’ll find out from my pisanos
Yep thats an OU hat on the Lombardi Trophy…
Great double picture post, rats now i’m the daily jack ass

  • Jason Vos says:

Any news on the Durron Neal Injury?

    • Jordan Esco says:

No updates as of yet, but I guarantee Stoops will be asked about it today following practice. So maybe we’ll find out something then if he’s willing to share. As always, if we hear anything before then we’ll be sure to get it up on the site.

Bleacher report’s writers seem down on ou. Predicting them to lose next year to tech and texas. And then another story had Trevor knight and the entire team on their list of most over hyped players teams etc. what’s up with the hate?

    • BigJoeBrown says:

One thing that I saw last year in the last couple of games was that our coaching specifically Josh Heupel really took off. At the beginning of the season, it felt like he was trying to treat Bell and Knight like Landry Jones. You could tell that they just didn’t have the same abilities/attributes as Jones. The season ended up being a learning opportunity for both Heupel and the QB’s. IMO it wasn’t until the last couple of games you really saw how comfortable Heupel was with the offense. His play calling was really stepped up. This upcoming season I am expecting JH to really see what this type of offense is capable of.

      • Zack says:

I agree heupel was probably on the hot seat going into the isu game and then the team really got going and even though the offense wasn’t overly impressive at osu it was good enough. And then when he had all that time to prepare for bama it looked like a whole different team on offense. So hopefully the confidence only gets better as whole for the offense.

    • Eric Hoffpauir says:

Bleacher Report isn’t much more than a series of listicles written by high school students. I wouldn’t worry too much about them.

      • Zack says:

It’s probably just an extension of espn who’s main goal is to drain every drop out of the sec well.

      • J.K. Abbott says:

I like it. Keep the edge. As soon as a team starts listening to how good they are is when they get complacent. No way a one loss Big XII team gets in the playoff IMO.

    • J.K. Abbott says:

Thanks Zack. Thats the best news Ive heard since the Bama game. Loving the disrespect.

  • Jacob Jones says:

Is there a list of recruits who will be at the spring game?
