Quick Hitter | 2019 Offensive Lineman Enokk Vimahi
– Charlie S
Sooners 2019 offensive line offer and official visitor this past weekend, Enokk Vimahi, has taken to Twitter to inform everyone that he will not be making his planned commitment announcement at this weeks Polynesian Bowl.
Prior to the visit to Norman, Vimahi was thought to be a heavy USC lean. As we mentioned earlier, the visit to OU went very well and the Sooners have inserted themselves as real players in this recruitment. We will have more on this later.
The delay affords Vimahi a chance to sit back and take in the changes that will be occurring at USC with Kliff Kingsbury leaving after having just enough time to have a cup of coffee in LA before leaving that job to become the Arizona Cardinals head coach.
The delay will also offer Vimahi the opportunity to take a potential visit to Ohio State who is trying to get more deeply involved in his recruitment.
Whether the trip to Ohio State happens is not yet certain but the young man is making a wise choice to delay his decision until he is able to see how things shake out at USC while also being very high on OU.
An added item of note, while Enokk is enjoying himself at the Polynesian Bowl back in his home state of Hawaii this week. OU has a a strong presence at the games…Sooners offensive line signees EJ Ndoma-Ogar and Stacey Wilkins. Both are very talkative and persuasive recruiters and you can bet they will be in Vimahi’s ear throughout the week.
Jalen Hurts | Sourced Update | Down to Two
– Super K
***Source tells me that Jalen Hurts no longer has plans to visit TCU
***That would seem to leave OU, Miami, and Maryland as possible landing spots.
***Spoke with a second source who tells me that Jalen has informed the Maryland staff that he is likely headed elsewhere.
***This one looks like it will come down to OU and Miami.
***Last night Miami got a commitment from backup Ohio State QB Tate Martell (Not sure how much this impacts Hurts as Martell, as things currently stand, would have to sit out next year)
***Would still be surprised if it isn’t OU.
Notebook | Ugwoegbu & Vimahi
– Super K
***David Ugwoegbu tells me that his in-home visit with Grinch and company has been pushed back to Thursday.
Date change might be connected to OU announcing their hires but that’s just a guess.
Also, in terms of a commitment date, David says he doesn’t have one yet but says he will let us know.
***Spoke with Enokk Vimahi’s high school coach. Coach said he has not yet spoken to Enokk about the visit so I’ll catch up with him again, later.
But he did mention something interesting. Apparently Vimahi plans on doing a church mission. It sounds like he may go to school for a year or two first and then leave to do a two year mission. Vimahi’s brother who is committed to Utah, is currently serving his two year mission.
There’s been a lot of talk about Vimahi and USC. In fact, I had heard a few weeks ago that Vimahi silently committed to USC.
Coach said that part of the draw to USC is the distance. It’s a direct flight as opposed to Oklahoma where there are multiple stops. Coach also added that in Hawaii they see more PAC 12 games.
But what caught my attention was coach emphasized that a big draw to USC was how blown away Enokk’s mother was by the trip.
I immediately thought to myself, if winning over Mama is important then OU probably knocked this one out of the park.
