The Path to Norman

Getting highly ranked receivers out of Texas seems to be a solid strategy for OU. There are a handful currently on the roster and several already committed in the 2019 class. One such receiver is Jaquayln Crawford. The Sooners had their eye on Crawford for some time, with an offer extended around a year before his signing day. As summer approached, OU fans liked their chances of landing the talented receiver. Crawford’s announcement made them even happier.

Crawford was listed at 5’10” and 160 pounds at the time of his commitment. Many schools don’t know how to mesh receivers of all sizes: OU seems to thrive on them. As TFB has mentioned before, the Sooners do a great job of taking the most talented receivers they find and using them all over the field; Ryan Broyles, Sterling Shepard, and Dede Westbrook are living proof of that. For reference, Broyles left high school at 5’10” and 188, Shep at 5’11” and 189, and Westbrook at 5’11” and 175. All three had excellent careers at OU, as they combined for 2 consensus All-American seasons, 1 unanimous All-American season, a Biletnikoff Award winner, two 2nd round NFL draft picks, and a 4th round NFL draft pick. The Sooners sold Crawford on being able to play anybody, anywhere at the receiver position.

Career So Far

Despite some early praise this spring, a hamstring issue kept Jaquayln out for part of spring practice. TFB heard recently that he has been working third at a receiver spot behind CeeDee Lamb (starter) and A.D. Miller.

Highlights

2018 Season

Crawford is really good, and is going to play a lot during his career at OU. It will be a challenge this year in a deep position group. While there is a lot of talent already at the receiver group, Crawford may be too talented to not find some playing time his freshman year.
