– The John Mackey Award honors college footballs “Most Outstanding” tight end annually. Last year, former OU tight end Mark Andrews brought the coveted award to Norman. This season, the Sooners Grant Calcaterra has made the preseason watch list.

In 2017, as a true freshman, Calcaterra put up some impressive offensive stats and was named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention by the league’s coaches. He came off the bench in all 14 games and his three touchdown receptions tied for eighth most ever by an OU freshman. Calcaterra finished his freshman campaign with 10 catches for 162 yards (16.2 per reception).

With Andrews having won the award last season, and Calcaterra being a realistic threat to bring the award back to Norman at some point in the next couple of years…and Austin Stogner waiting to come into Norman…I hate to overuse the saying “assembly line”…but…
