– Recently, the Sooners extended an offer to Elite 2020 Defensive Back, Bryson Washington, out of Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei High School.

Washington is a 6’2″ 187 lb rising junior at Mater Dei and he joins his current teammates and defensive backfield members, Darian Green-Warren and Elias Ricks in holding offers from Oklahoma.

Washington is extremely happy about the offer as he said “It’s huge to get an offer from one of my top schools, it’s great!”

As for Mater Dei itself, the school producing some serious Big 12 recruiting battles, particularly between OU and UT, in specific, as they have both offered numerous players from the West Coast high school power. 19 Athlete Bru McCoy, ’20 QB Bryce Young, ’20 DB Darian Green-Warren, ’20 DB Elias Ricks, and now ’20 DB Washington each have serious connections to either UT or OU, and in some cases like McCoy and Young and now Washington, both OU and UT are in their top group of schools.

I asked Washington if he was planning on making a visit to Norman this summer and he said, “My friend Darian was like ‘come with me out to Norman for another visit’ so we are going to set that up”.

In the past, it has been very difficult for teams not named USC, Oregon and to some extent UCLA, to pull kids out of Mater Dei. However, with OU already having quite an extensive history of recruiting the state, and Texas making a concerted effort to establish a more prominent foothold in California, the perceived struggles of the PAC 12 in terms of national recognition could play right into the hands of the Big 12 heavyweights, and I would not be surprised to see three or four of the kids mentioned above end up in the conference. – (Charlie)

– The Memorial Day Weekend “Eyes”

We have received word and confirmation that it isn’t one of the players we already mentioned would eventually be in the fold. We have been told who it is, and you’re going to like this one. Big time 2019 defensive player. Still checking on when the news will come out. – (Super K)

– Recently, the Sooners extended an offer to Elite 2020 offensive tackle Akinola Ogunbiyi out of Sugar Land (TX) Kempner HS.

Ogunbiyi is a 6’4″ 310 lb. 2020 Offensive Guard out of Sugar Land (TX) Kempner High School. He currently holds offers from Texas A&M, LSU, and Missouri. He is hearing a lot from Baylor, Georgia, Texas, and Ohio State to name a few.

I spoke to the talented big man and he let me know that Coach Bedenbaugh offered him over the phone after stopping by his school recently.

I asked him what his initial thoughts are about OU as a program and he simply said “The best. Championship winners”.

Akinola also mentioned that he is looking to potentially visit Norman this summer. – (Charlie)

– Oklahoma also offered 2019 Offensive Guard Marcus Alexander out of Sunnyvale (TX) Sunnyvale HS.

Marcus is a 6’3″ 295 lb rising senior who currently holds offers from Oklahoma State, Missouri, and Texas Tech among others.

Super K briefly connected with Marcus, and Alexander mentioned that he already has plans set to visit Norman this coming weekend. He also mentioned that a decision on where he will continue his athletic and academic career could come as early as the beginning of June.

We will have much more on Marcus. – (Charlie)

– The Sooners made the top eight for Elite 2019 Offensive Tackle Devontae Dobbs out of Belleville (MI) Belleville HS.

Dobbs holds offers from just about every major program across the country and his top eight reflects as much.

Devontae let me know that he plans on visiting Norman “sometime soon, no date set yet.”

When I asked him about if distance would play a factor in his decision, he said “Distance is not a problem.”

When the talk turned specifically to OU, he was well aware of the attrition which will potentially take place on the Sooners offensive line following the season when four lineman may find themselves being selected in the draft. I asked him if the depth chart, or comfort and fit played the larger role in his selection and he said “I believe both play a role and only time will tell how comfortable I’ll get to be”.

I also asked him what his initial thoughts on OU as a program were, and he replied “OU is O line U so far from what I hear”.

We will keep you posted on the potential visit. – (Charlie)

– In the 2019 Running Back update post the other day, I noted that Oklahoma is very interested in Wichita (KS) Northwest HS running back, Breece Hall. Hall holds offers from Iowa, KU, KSU, Louisville, Michigan, Nebraska and Ole Miss to name a few.

I spoke a bit with Hall the past couple of days, and though OU has yet to offer, they are on his radar,”I really like OU and the type of offense they run. It’s very similar to my high school offense in that they spread it out. It really fits me.”

A source on the OU side said the Sooners like Hall and that they are evaluating him. I’d expect OU to have Hall on an unofficial at some point this summer. TFB will monitor this, as OU is looking to sign two Running Backs in the 2019 class.

– Speaking of Northwest HS out of Wichita (KS), Oklahoma is really working hard to land Hall’s teammate, Marcus Hicks. I spoke with Hicks father, to wish him Happy Memorial Day (he is an Army Vet) and Kelvin let me know that they plan on visiting Oklahoma in late July for the Sooners ChampU BBQ. Hicks added that they still have no timetable on when Marcus will decide, “but when he feels it’s right he will announce.”

This has long seemed like an OU and Michigan battle, and it will likely come down to those two programs. Oklahoma is in a good spot so far, but the Hicks are originally from Michigan and that is playing a big role. As the summer winds down TFB should have a better feel on Hicks recruitment going forward, visits and all. – (Brandon)
