Yesterday, the Sooners seventeen players. Eight spots remain. Let’s discuss where things stand with some of the final targets and how things could play out.
Treveon Johnson – Johnson is a long time Oklahoma commit and is expected to sign in February. Johnson will bring the class to 18.
Tavion Thomas – Thomas is another guy who has been committing to Oklahoma for a while and we expect him to sign in February. That would bring the class to 19.
DaShaun White – White is still a heavy Oklahoma lean. As we noted last week and earlier this week, White planned on signing Wednesday but his family preferred he wait until February. I was in communication with White last night and everything still seems to be pointing towards the Sooners. If he does end up at OU he’d bring the class to 20.
Bookie – We still feel good about where things stand with Oklahoma and Bookie. Yesterday, Bookie’s mother tweeted out that they had not yet signed and will announce their decision at the Army All-American game on January 6th. His top four are Clemson, UCLA, OU and FSU. Again, we continue to hear good things for the Sooners. Assuming that holds up, Bookie would bring the class to 21.
Nik Bonitto – As we mentioned yesterday, we feel really good about where OU stands here. Bonitto will announce at the Under Game in early January. Should this one go as we expect, Bonitto will bring the class to 22.
Bobby Tre Brown – Last night, Brown confirmed to us that he will announce his decision this Friday and whether he signs or not, I expect for that decision to be final. Based on our conversations with Brown’s mother and with sources we believe it’s down to Oklahoma and Alabama. Oklahoma has always been a favorite of his mother’s. Sooners also have the advantage of proximity. But it’s worth noting that the family is originally from SEC territory. If OU can land Brown a) this would be a ridiculous defensive line class and b) that would bring the Sooners to 23.
Note: Sources on the OU side tell us they aren’t sure where they stand. Meanwhile Alabama seems confident. Tre has not set an announcement time. Last night, he let us know that he is checking to determine a time.
Other Targets…
Solomon Tuliaupupu – With Ayodele signing with Texas, Sooners would like to add another linebacker. They visited Solomon Tuliaupupu (Santa Ana, CA) earlier this month and as we’ve previously noted he is expected to visit OU in January. Still trying to figure out what OU’s chances are here but it can’t hurt that the Sooners will be playing a playoff game in his home state.
Christopher Oats – 2018 OLB, Christopher Oats (Cincinnati, OH) is a guy the Sooners were recruiting through the fall. Oats was expected to visit Oklahoma on multiple occasions but those visits were pushed back. He’s a guy to keep an eye on as someone the Sooners will likely try to bring in for a visit in January.
Mario Goodrich – 2018 CB, Mario Goodrich (Lee’s Summit, MO) is a long athletic cornerback who recently picked up a LSU offer. Goodrich tells me he is scheduled to visit LSU, UGA and Ole Miss in January with his final weekend open. Goodrich is also a D1 basketball player and I’ve been told the Sooners may head up to see him for a game during after the dead period. Not sure how serious OU is here, as the priority is going to go to front seven guys, but he’s a name to watch.
Leon O’Neal – Sooners long time DB target, Leon O’Neal has yet to sign. He is currently a heavy Texas A&M lean but if Brown and White end up picking Oklahoma they could become a factor. Not necessarily a guy I expect to end up at OU but a guy to watch.
Courtre Alexander – 2018 DE/DT, Courtre Alexander (Owasso, OK) runs extremely well for a man standing nearly 6’4 and weighing nearly 260 lbs. Under coach Blankenship at Owasso he’s not only one a state title but has developed as a heck of a football player. He’s only scratching the surface though. The Sooners have been in touch with Courtre. He did not sign yesterday. He picked up recent offers from Texas and Arkansas. Texas is pushing hard for him to sign during this early signing period. If he doesn’t, he could be a guy to watch for Oklahoma as well.
JUCO Offensive Lineman – Something to keep an eye on is the possibility of Oklahoma going after a JUCO OT. I believe the Sooners were in touch with JUCO OT and Florida signee, Noah Banks before the early signing period began. I think this will be a lower priority and will likely depend on how Oklahoma closes with their defensive targets but this could come into play if a spot remains open.
Graduate Transfer – This is a possibility as well. We will likely have more on this later.
Deontay Anderson – Based on what he has told us, Ole Miss safety, Deontay Anderson wants to be a Sooner. It’s possible Oklahoma could land Anderson and not lose a scholarship. More on this later.
Jeremiah Martin – Martin is a guy the staff still wants. He has two or three more visits to take in January and will decide thereafter. Sooners are definitely in this one.
Tank Jenkins – hopes to finally make out to OU in January. We will see if that finally materializes.
Isaac Taylor-Stuart – The 2018 CA DB has the Sooners in his top 6 and as we previously mentioned, he has let us know that he plans to take a official visit to Oklahoma in January.
