Mayfield adds the Heisman to a week that has seen him win the AP Player of the Year, Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, Maxwell Award, and the Davey O’Brien Award. Baker is just the fifth player ever, and the second in the past 68 years, to finish in the top four of the Heisman voting three different times. This marks the first time in the history of the Heisman Trophy that a previous walk-on player has won the prestigious award.
Mayfield earns 732 first-place votes, good for third all time. OJ Simpson had 855, Troy Smith with 801.

Baker finished with the third highest percentage of possible points received since 1960 with 86.0%. Troy Smith and Marcus Mariota finished with higher percentages.
This marks the sixth Heisman Trophy for a Sooner. Six is tied with USC for the second most of any school ever, with Notre Dame and Ohio State having 7 each. The OU play-caller has had an unbelievably good year; his clutch play and his stats have been the standard this season.

A Heisman Trophy is a great recognition for a player with an incredible career. Mayfield ranks high in several career stats. He stands at 6th in passing touchdowns, top 10 in passing yards, 3rd in passing yards per attempt, and 1st in career passing efficiency. Additionally, this season he is on pace to break the single season efficiency record and the yards per attempt record.
Mayfield has broken several records for Heisman winners. He has the highest passing efficiency ever for a Heisman winner, will finish in the top 3 in passing yards, and holds the record for most passing yards per attempt, among others.
The Heisman winner is thrilled to be taking the trophy home, but he has his heights set even higher: a National Championship. The next month will tell just how much hardware Mayfield will finish his career with.
