– Injury News | Team Note: As Carey Murdock of SoonerScoop first reported, Sooners freshman LB Levi Draper is out for the year with a torn labrum.

Around the time we heard about the Kennedy Brooks injury we’d been told that Draper may have suffered a similar injury but the Sooners were still waiting on MRI results to come back. Apparently Draper had suffered the injury earlier in camp but was playing through it, not realizing the severity of the problem. He started being held out of practice starting last Monday. Draper is expected to have surgery today. We are told recovery time should be four to six months.

What does this mean?

Per several sources, Draper was working with the second unit and had been playing well. Draper had his weight up to around 230 lbs in camp. A source on the OU side said the plan for Draper was to play him with 2s and 3s, and play him on special teams.

 

The Sooners may not have a ton of linebackers but because of guys like Curtin Bolton and Caleb Kelly who can play multiple LB positions, the Sooners do have some depth. – (Brandon)

– Ronnie Perkins: For the past few weeks, Ronnie Perkins has been keeping all his official visits a secret. Neither Perkins or his coach would even confirm whether an Oklahoma visit was going to happen. Earlier this month when I asked him if he had any official visits he would definitively take he said he did not and when I pressed him on the possibility of an Oklahoma official visit he said he had not made a decision about any official visits including Oklahoma.

That has changed.

This past weekend Perkins confirmed that he will take an official visit to Oklahoma but has not set a date yet. He has however, set his first official visit date to Texas for the San Jose State game on September 9th.

I do believe this one is going to come down to OU vs. Texas vs. Missouri. Perkins is close to Missouri native and Texas commit, Ayodele Adeoye. But he’s told us that he has the best relationship with the OU staff. Perkins brother is a player at Missouri.

I have been told that a lot of the Missouri guys are waiting to see how Missouri does this year. Should the Tigers do well, they could be tough to beat for guys like Perkins and Carson. If not, again, this could turn into an OU vs. Texas battle for Perkins and possibly Carson as well.

Perkins is highly coveted by so many staffs because for teams that love to be multiple you need to have versatile defensive linemen and Perkins is that. He’s an athletic 6’3-6’4 who currently weighs around 260 lbs but his coach tells me Perkins can comfortably carry 290 lbs. – (Super K)
