– Demarvion Overshown: The TX/OK region is packed with defensive talent this year. One of the most talented players is Demarvion Overshown out of Arp, TX. Overshown is a 6’4 200 lb athlete that can play every defensive position minus defensive tackle. The Sooners DB coach, Kerry Cooks is leading the charge for Overshown who plays primarily safety for Arp HS.

Overshown grew up a Texas family and a number of folks figured it was a foregone conclusion that he would commit to Texas. In fact many thought it would happen this past weekend. However, I spoke with Overshown’s father yesterday who told me that Demarvion would like to take more visits before he makes a final decision. The two main regional visits they are looking to take are Oklahoma and TAMU.

Overshown’s father says they are going to find a date to visit once they receive OU’s spring schedule. He said they may end up visiting for the spring game.

An advantage the Sooners may have here is that they do seem to be recruiting Overshown as a DB whereas Texas appears to be recruiting him as a LB. In fact, his father mentioned that the Texas visit went well but that Demarvion was a bit turned off by the fact that Texas staff had him accompanied by the Texas linebackers which he took as a sign that’s the position they’d like to see him play at the next level. – (Super K)

– Cameron Rising: We are already expected a lot of talented players to roll in for this years spring game. By then the Sooners are hoping to have at least a couple additional commits. One commit they will have on hand is 2018 QB commit, Cameron Rising. I’m told he will make the trip out to Norman for the spring game. – (Super K)

– Byron Hobbs: One of the Sooners top linebacker targets in the 2018 class is Byron Hobbs out of Ft. Worth, Texas. And if you want to know why just take a look at the film. Hobbs is an athletic and flexible 6’3 200 lb linebacker who can do everything you want from a linebacker in whatever scheme you choose to put him in.

Hobbs recently visited Oklahoma for the most recent jr day in Norman and said he absolutely loved the visit. Following the recent visit I spoke with Hobbs’ mother at length. Hobbs has picked up a number of offers in recent weeks including offers from OU, OSU and Texas. The family has already had a chance to visit Oklahoma State, TCU, Oklahoma and most recently Texas.

Hobbs’ family is leaving the decision to Byron but proximity is a preference, “Ultimately it’s going to be where Byron feels comfortable but we would prefer he stay close to home”. As such, the family is making sure they give the regional schools a thorough look and it sounds like they got a good look at OU, “OU was thorough in their visit. It was impressive. Very impressive.” How impressive? Hobbs’ mother says they are already making plans to return to Oklahoma for the spring game.

The family seems to really like Oklahoma State as well. The Cowboys were the first team to offer and Hobbs’ mother said, “we are really comfortable with coach Spencer (OSU DC)”. However, an advantage she noted the Sooners have was that they, “liked the diversity of the OU staff”.

This recruiting process looks like it’s going to be a fight between the regional schools and it also looks like it won’t drag out. Hobbs’ mother said, “We would prefer he commit before the start of the his senior season as long as he’s very confident in his decision. We won’t allow him to commit and then decommit”.

Hobbs has family who graduated from TCU and also his father is originally from Arkansas so he has some times to both TCU and the Arkansas programs. But while Hobbs’ mother wouldn’t outright say the Sooners were their most impressive visit as of last week, it was pretty clear that the Sooners were a team to beat. It remains to be seen how this past weekend’s Texas visit stacked up to the OU visit.

Again, Sooners will host Hobbs for a second visit for the spring game in April. – (Super K)
