Patrick Fields: Last night I spoke with 2018 DB, Patrick Fields (Tulsa, OK) who just came off a visit to Texas.

In recent weeks Fields has visited Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and TCU and tells me that he is about ready to make a decision. I expect to see a trimmed list of final schools from him sometime this week, possible as early as this evening, as well as a decision date announcement.

It won’t surprise me to see Fields wrap things up pretty quickly. Look for a decision to come from Fields in the very near future.

Why the quick decision? As Fields put it, “I want to help build the class for the school I choose. If you’re going to win at the next level you want to help bring in guys that are committing to that, that are talented and want to win. I’m not that interested in the recruiting process. I’m kind of over it. So if I can come to a final decision and then help recruit players for the school why wouldn’t I?”

I’ve spoken to Fields on multiple occasions and when you combine his ability and his maturity you get a guy that I foresee being a strong recruiting asset for whatever school he commits to. – (Super K)

Leon O’Neal: Last week I briefly caught up with 2018 DB, Leon O’Neal (Cypress, TX) after his OU visit. He loved the visit but I took his comments with a grain of salt knowing that he would be visiting Texas this past weekend.

I spoke to someone close to O’Neal and as I suspected, after the Texas visit, it does sound like he’s leaning strongly in that direction.

However, the Sooners are fortunate in that they’ve got a couple talented in-state safeties in Fields and Proctor and are also in a good spot for Manvel, TX DB, Trent Gordon. – (Super K)

Jordan Kelley: 2018 DT and Sooner offer, Jordan Kelley (Tulsa, OK) also made his way down to Texas this past weekend. Kelley let me know that he would not be taking the trip with his family.

I think it’s safe to say the Sooners are in the drivers seat here.

The staff is really hoping to lock a few of these talented in-state and regional guys in sometime in the next weeks so that they can build the same kind of momentum they had last year. Kelley is another guy to keep an eye on that could pull the trigger sooner rather than later. – (Super K)

Brennan Eagles: Recent OU visitor, 2018 WR Brennan Eagles (Houston, TX) released his top ten last night and it was no surprise that the Sooners made the cut…

If I was betting man I’d say, based on what I’ve heard, Oklahoma is somewhere in his top 3. Eagles doesn’t say a whole lot but I see him as someone who will take his time with the process.

The big WR in the region to keep an eye on is 2018 WR, Tommy Bush (Schertz, TX). Bush holds an OU offer. He visited Texas last weekend and didn’t come away with an offer. He plans to get up to OU for a visit as soon as possible and has family ties to the state of Oklahoma. He may end up being the big outside wide receiver for OU in this class. – (Super K)

Baker Mayfield: By now, I’m sure you’ve all seen the news that came out on Baker Mayfield and his arrest this past weekend. I checked with a source and was told that a decision as to any disciplinary measures had not been made but I was told, not surprisingly, the decision will be made by coach Stoops. One source said that coach Stoops, “will probably take his time making a decision. Typically in the spring he doesn’t push the panic button on issues unless it’s a catastrophe”.

While this is obviously a serious issue and will be dealt with as such, I don’t expect a multi-game suspension or anything of that sort. That is, admittedly, conjecture on my part but it’s the sense I get from talking to folks close to the program. – (Super K & Brandon)

UPDATE (2:12 pm): Keep an eye out for Fields’ announcement this evening…
