A Quick Update From The Weekend On 2014 WR Commit Dallis Todd

For those of you who are active on social media, this update on Sooners 2014 wide receiver commit Dallis Todd probably won’t come as news. However, in the event that you might have missed it and/or for those who are active on Twitter and the like, we wanted to get something up so everyone knew the latest.
With classes starting on Monday (or today depending on when you are reading this), Oklahoma was expecting five members of their current 2014 recruiting class to be early enrollees — Todd, Devante Bond, Dimitri Flowers, Justice Hansen, and Isaac Ijalana — and arrive on campus this week. However, this past Sunday 6’4″ 205 pound wide receiver Dallis Todd tweeted the following:

On its own, that could have easily been misconstrued as something much more ominous than it actually was and, for some, may have even potentially called into question his commitment to the Sooners. Fortunately, it was nothing like that although it is a bit of a good news/bad news type situation.
The good being Todd’s commitment is still just as solid as it has been for some time. The bad obviously being that he will now no longer be enrolling early, thus he will also not be taking part in spring practice as so many were looking forward to him doing with his size and athleticism being something this OU offense could use on the outside. Those extra spring reps can be invaluable for incoming freshman, especially those who, like Todd, could be called upon at a position of need for this 2014 Oklahoma offense.
The situation is fairly innocent in that Todd’s high school semester will not officially come to an end until later this month which would force him to miss too much time in this first month of OU’s spring semester. Just a timing issue and one that apparently those involved thought they would be able to work around at some point, but it appears that is no longer the case.
It’s unfortunate for Todd who will still graduate early and has said he’ll just continue to work out and prepare for his arrival in Norman which will now not take place until this summer with the remainder of OU’s incoming class.

Does this kind of screw OU in a way though? Giving us 1 less schollie to offer in this class now?
I don’t believe it will have any effect on how many they take in this 2014 class.
It would mean we can only take 29 instead of 30 but like Jordan says it won’t effect our class since we wouldn’t be taking that many anyways
Huh? Man I guess I’m out of the loop. I know JC kids count against last years numbers but HS early enrollees have no baring on how many scholly’s OU takes in a given year. Correct me if I’m wrong but why would Todd not enrolling early mean OU would sign less kids. His scholly counts as one whether he enrolls early or not.
If he came now he would count on last years class. Since he can’t come until summer he will count against the 25 per class so instead of taking 25 + 5 we will be taking 25 +4…errr we could take 25…another thing you have to look at is the 85 limit which we will be over with one or two more commits unless we have some attrition. With the number of guys we have left and at dif positions I’m gonna guess we will have some current guys either transfer or get a medical scholly…you don’t have to be a juco to count on previous class, you just have to EE…that’s the way I understand it anyways
I was under the impressions that only early signees (JC players) counted against last years numbers. Early HS enrollees are not considered early signees.
Where are the gurus? Settle this thing. Ive been wrong once.

It’s a lot more complicated then the old days when the “King” had about 200 scholarship players.
No kidding, those were the good old days when you just gave the kid a leased car or got his mom an apartment and season tickets and filled the bench with monsters!

Yeah, it sucks. But at least it’s not something like a decommit. He’ll get to Norman, it’ll just be a little bit later than everyone would have preferred.
No doubt. He’s the last kid I would worry about ever decommiting. He’s a big time Sooner.
Huh? Todd’s scholly counts as one against OU’s total whether he enrolls early or not.
That’s what I was thinking. I don’t know how it could be any different unless they were going to use a leftover from a previous year and it can’t be used after semester starts?

How is Dannin Cavil? Heard a lot of good things about him last spring, big receiver like Todd, but I assume he redshirted. Will he get PT with Derrick Woods, Sterling, and Durron Neal?
He did redshirt and you have to think he’ll be right there in the competition for a starting spot on the outside. OU obviously needs/wanted size out there, hence Cavil and their three 2014 WR commits, so w/ a full year under his belt Cavil s/b a guy to keep an eye on this spring.
It is an embarrassment of riches at the WR position just with the guys we have on campus now.

I believe he’ll be here as early as tomorrow (Tues) from what I’ve heard/read. Just some minor paperwork that didn’t get done when it should have the first time. If that changes, we’ll be sure to let you know here on FB.

Sooners desperately need size outside to complement S.S in the slot. Offense missed J.B and K.S last year against the better secondaries, especially in the beginning of the season, see TCU game!
How does this happen? If he’s been a verbal commit for a while now, how is it not known until now that the late January graduation would be problematic? I feel bad for him, but this looks like someone messed up here. Those spring practices would have been really big for him.
I think they were just optimistic they’d be able to work around it on the h.s. side of things, but for whatever reasons is just didn’t happen.
If this is all on the H.S. and not on Todd or OU, our coaches or staff need to work a little harder on these High Schools making sure they understand the process and the problems it could cause.
Seems like OU could have granted him conditional admission until his transcripts became official.
You’re way over my head there Blaster, I don’t know anything about those rules.
What’s crazy to me is that Todd isn’t the first football player to come out of La Mirada (let alone the district), yet they have no procedure for *gasp* an early graduate.
I honestly feel bad for the kid, he worked his tail off to become a D1 player, and take care of his academic issues, only to be met with this hurdle.
In the end, I’m sure things will work out just fine, just frustrating that the school/district wouldn’t have this figured out.
Feel bad for Dallis if he took care of his business and people “looking” out for him dropped the ball. Hopefully he has everything in order and is mature about things and works out hard between now and summer. If he is truly talented he should be fine going through summer workouts and fall practice.

Stuff like this happens. Weird that his school doesn’t end it’s semester until after the Chirstmas break. As far as play goes, it’s not that big of a deal. If a kid can catch, he can catch. Positions like WR are pretty much plug and play if a kid has talent. They’ve all run every route. They’ve all grown up playing 7 on 7. He’ll need a little time to get his timing down with the QB, but he’ll have summer and fall to show he’s ready. Worse case scenario is that he has to RS.
Out of the WR’s that we return next year, and the ones that have committed to OU for 2014, which guys project as slot receivers? Shepard, obviously, but who else?
