– Zacchaeus McKinney: Earlier today the Sooners picked up a commitment from 2017 DT, Zaccheaus McKinney (Weatherford, TX).
Alex has been in touch with McKinney for a while and spoke to him a bit ago. Alex is at work but he sent over a few notes from his conversation with McKinney:
McKinney said that the Sooners like his athleticism and believe he can play any position along the line but see him at the 4i technique.
McKinney has a long standing relationship with coach Thibs. Thibs recruited McKinney when he was at Kansas.
Coincidentally, McKinney did visit Oklahoma for the Kansas game. McKinney said this past week coach Thibs spoke to McKinney about offering him and asked where the Sooners would stand should they offer. McKinney’s family discussed it and ultimately felt the stability at OU was a better fit when compared to Texas. As suspected, it was a quick offer/acceptance situation.
McKinney also said that he will no longer take his scheduled official visit to Texas. Instead he will take an official visit to Oklahoma.
I can tell you that McKinney has improved significantly over the past year. When Alex first brought his film to me last year, I felt he was still a ways away. But McKinney has worked extremely hard in the past year and the improvement is easily noticeable. He is quicker off the ball, physically bigger and more flexible. – (Super K & Alex)
