– OU vs. Texas Tech | Reactions: I was out of town this weekend so didn’t catch the whole game. I left my phone in the hotel room. When I got back to the room I checked my messages and based on the messages I assumed the Sooners must have lost. I checked the score and they won but to everyone’s dismay it was in spite of the defense.
I asked a few of the Sooner commits what they thought about the defensive performance overall.
Kenneth Murray (OU LB commit): “It wasn’t pretty but we got a ‘W’ and it’s all that matters. They will get better…just need guys to step up. That’s it. They will be alright. Got a great DC. They will be fine”.
The sense I get is Murray sees an opportunity for himself at OU.
Tre Brown (OU CB commit): “Horrible last night. No effort and missed too many opportunities…I feel like our class is a lot better at every position on defense”.
Again, seems Tre feels like the 2017 class can provide the talent and there are opportunities.
Jacob Phillips (OU LB commit): Phillips said he didn’t get a chance to watch the game. In fact he said, “the only game I have gotten to watch was the game I went to”. Phillips did add, “I sure hope they (OU) will win out…hoping we go (to the playoffs) every year when I’m there (at OU)”.
Phillips feels locked in and just excited to get to OU and help the team get better.
That’s the good news. The not so good news is a chatted with a high profile and talented defensive player that the Sooners are recruiting and while typically diplomatic, he didn’t mince words, saying, “That was really the most embarrassing game I have every sat down and watched. That wasn’t even football.”
In general the Sooner Squad seems to be locked in and ready to make an impact but the season is obviously far from over and the Oklahoma defense is certainly going to need to get some things figured out before that three week stretch at the end of the season. – (Super K)
– Cesar Ruiz: A quick note on offensive lineman, Cesar Ruiz (IMG Academy). Ruiz is one of the top centers in the country. He tells us that he will take an official visit to Oklahoma on December 3rd when the Sooners host Oklahoma State. – (Super K)
– Donovan Jeter: Last week the Sooners offered 2017 DT, Donovan Jeter (Beaver Falls, PA). Jeter had mentioned he wanted to take some visits but it appears he only needed one to make his decision. After a trip to Michigan he promptly committed to the Wolverines. The hope was he’d make a visit to Norman but it doesn’t appear that will be happening. – (Super K)
– UPDATED (10:52 am): Apologies, I forgot to mention a note I had on Parrish Cobb. I was asked by a few folks why he didn’t travel. I was told he was dealing with a hamstring issue. However, I suspect coach Stoops will address it later today in his presser. – (Super K)
