Team News | Cobb & Finding a Cornerback: Perhaps the most noteworthy team note I’ve heard this week is that cornerback Parrish Cobb has not been practicing. He seems to be nursing some kind of a leg issue. I have no final word on whether he will be able to play this weekend but my guess is, even if available, as a freshmen, it would be difficult to throw him in against an offense he hasn’t seen or had adequate preparation for.

I’m told Quick has been getting the first team reps on that right side.

As I mentioned before, everyone is getting reps at the cornerback spot. Again, as I noted last week even Jordan Parker has been pulled up from scout team. – (Super K)

Joshua Rogers: Earlier this week the Sooners put out a new defensive line offer to 2017 DE/DT, Joshua Rogers (Houston, TX).

Rogers is a big guy. He’s listed at 6’6 280 lbs. Reminds me a little bit of Dwayne Orso. He can run but isn’t the most sudden guy off the ball. I have been told that some programs, including TAMU are looking at him as an offensive tackle. That is not the likely scenario with OU seeing as the Sooners are pretty set on their final OT targets. – (Super K)

Hunter Echols: Just wanted to offer up an interesting note on 2017 DE and USC commits, Hunter Echols (Los Angeles, CA). Echols tells me that his mother used to live in Oklahoma. So there is an Oklahoma tie there. I have been told that the Sooners have continued to recruit Echols. You may recall that he had planned on making it to Norman for the BBQ this past summer but those plans did not materialize. – (Super K)

Bubba Bolden: Sooners sent out a new defensive back offer today, offering 2017 safety, Bubba Bolden (Las Vegas, NV). Bolden plays from Bishop Gorman, a schools where the Sooners have had some notable recruiting success.

I had been told that if the Sooners were going to put out any new offers it would be to a safety. They did just that and it sounds like Oklahoma would like to take one more. However, I am told, it has to be the right one.

On film Bolden is what you want in a modern safety in that he’s a big kid that hits like you’d expect from someone that size. He can play the middle of the field. He reads things quickly and is fast enough to close the space and assist a stacked defensive back. He also seems to open up well so he gives you the flexibility in coverage against the spread sets. In general, looks like a young man who has all the qualities you want to see in a well rounded safety. And playing for Bishop Gorman, you know he’s being taught the game.

I haven’t had a chance to speak to Bolden just yet but I am told by our connects at Ohio State that they are expecting him to take a visit to Columbus in a few weeks. USC, I’m told, would be the favorite but one has to think that some of the turmoil they are dealing with and given the sheer number of talented young defensive backs already on the roster, could open the door for another program. – (Super K)

Jalen Reagor: Unless you’ve been living under a rock, as Sooner fans, you know just how dynamic 2017 Waxahachie, Texas wide receiver Jalen Reagor is. Reagor has been committed to OU since March 27, 2016. Reagor took his official to Oklahoma for the Ohio State game two weeks ago, as well. That said, SoonerScoop’s Josh McCuisition has reported that Reagor will take an official visit to TCU this weekend for their home game versus the Sooners.

I caught up with Reagor and he confirmed that he is indeed taking an official to TCU this weekend. Reagor added that his family wants him to enjoy the recruiting process. I asked Reagor if the staff knew about his official visit and he said that he didn’t know. Reagor quickly added that fans didn’t have anything to worry about, “I am 100 percent committed to OU, so there should be no worries with the fans.”

This gets to be a bit tricky with OU slow start, but you also can’t disregard his closeness to SoonerSquad17. This weekend will be crucial and a win against Texas, I believe, stems the tide entirely. – (Brandon)

SoonerSquad 17 Performance:

Levi Draper: Had 13 tackles with 2 being for loss of yards. Draper’s Collinsville team loss to Bishop Kelley 28-10.

Trey Sermon: Looking for who could be Sooners next start running back? Well, Sermon might just be it. Sermon had a massive performance, last Friday, rushing for 253 yards and 4 touchdowns in Sprayberry’s 24-14 win.

Addison Gumbs: Gumbs Stellar Prep squad was on a bye last Friday.

Tre Brown: Brown’s Tulsa Union squad beat Edmond North 51-0 last Friday. Because of the mismatch, Brown did not play.

Robert Barnes: Barnes has been hampered by a hamstring injury that occurred last Tuesday in practice and was held out. Brown told TFB that he is a game time decision for this weeks game.

Grant Calcaterra: Calcaterra was another Sooner Squad 17 commit that was held out last Friday. Calcaterra’s team beat Riverside(King HS) 44-14 despite his absence.

Kenneth Murray: Murray had a big game with 11 tackles (9 solo) in Elkins 41-10 win last Friday.

Creed Humphrey: Shawnee beat Tulsa East Central 54-27 last Friday. Humphrey had 9 pancake blocks in just 3 quarters of action.

Marquis Hayes Jr.:  Hayes says he had “ about 6 pancakes” in Pattonville 28-14 win last Friday.

Charleston Rambo: Rambo’s Cedar Hill doesn’t lose often, but they did fall to Desoto 33-14 last Friday. Rambo continued his strong senior year with 5 catches for 95 yards and 2 touchdowns. Rambo said that he could’ve gotten a third touchdown, but it was called back because of a penalty.

Justin Broiles: John Marshall has been dominant all year and last week was no different. Broiles’ John Marshall squad took down Marlow 45-20 last Friday.

Jeremiah Hall: Another SoonerSquad17 member on their bye week. Hall’s  Vance squad is off to a 5-0 start so far.

Cedarian Lamb: It comes as not surprise that Lamb had another huge outing on Friday. Lamb had six catches and 142 yards to go with two touchdowns. According to Lamb,  Sooners outside wide receiver coach Dennis Simmons was in attendance to watch his outstanding performance last Friday.

Jalen Reagor: Waxahachie is 5-0 and that is large part Reagor’s performances on a weekly basis. Reagor didn’t disappoint Friday, either, adding five catches for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

Chris Robison: Mesquite Horn had a big rivalry game vs crosstown Mesquite HS last Friday. Robison lead horn to a 49-24 win while going 10-18 for 165 yard and a touchdown.

Isaiah Thomas: Memorial lost their first ball game this past weekend versus Pryor. Thomas had eight tackles, but that wasn’t enough as Pryor bested Memorial 32-0.
