A couple of quick notes…
– Dayo Odeyingbo: Vanderbilt defensive line commit, Dayo Odeyingbo (Carrollton, TX) tells me that he will visit Oklahoma this weekend for the match-up against Ohio State.
Odeyingbo does hold an Oklahoma offer and tells me that, as of late,ย the Sooners have been in touch quite a bit. At 6’5 and already nearly 250 lbs (listed) he has plenty of room to fill out. – (Super K)
– Tyler Taylor: Brandon confirmed a new ILB visitor as well. If memory serves correctly this will be Taylor’s second trip to Norman:
2017 Sugar Hill (GA) LB Tyler Taylor (@tylertaylor8) tells me he is taking official visit to #OU this weekend for #Sooners vs Buckeyes game.

First time 1st.
Does Taylor have genuine interest in Oklahoma or is just a free trip to a big game?
It’s his 2nd visit.
Thanks, did he visit during the summer?
I think he visited in the spring.
It’s his second visit and Georgia has 7 ILB on their roster currently whereas OU only has 2 with one 2017 commit (Draper) and Evans is a Senior.
Dayo Odeyingbo: DT or DE?
Please tell me we are getting him and he would play on the same side as Ogbonnia Okoronkwo. What a play-by-play guy’s nightmare. I’d love it.
Or, it could be considered the opportunity of a lifetime. This could be what they dream about all of those years practicing calling games in their basement with names such as Chijoke Imgonnagetya and Christian Okoye.
An ideal lineup for a hurry up no huddle offense. The drive is over before you announce the tacklers on the first play.
I really need to scroll down more before I reply.
Yeah, like one comment below. What’s up with that?
If Odeyingbo and Okoronko are ever in on the same play the play by play guy might end up needing therapy.
LMAO
Obo and Oko, doesn’t seem too hard. ๐
Okobo?
Keep that up and we’ll all be singing with the Beach Boys!
Ode and Oko
We’ll just shorten it Odee Oko.

Greg Rodgers at DE/DT , Marvin Wilson at NT/DT , Elijah Conliffe at DE , K’lavon Chaisson at OLB/DE.
Jesus at QB, the Holy Ghost in the slot, and Peter at the tailback?
Bruh ??
And Moses on the OL to part the Red Sea.
Thibs needs all these guys in a room with Broiles and Draper talk about how they want to compete and they wan to make The Sooners not just respected but feared again. With our powers combined I give you Sooner Squad 17 winning everything.
Jacob Phillips has canceled his ov to LSU. Rivals guy (I think?) said he was replacing it with a different school but didn’t say which one.
Wow 41 guys scheduled to visit the OU/TOSU game. Many more are expected to come.
Build it and they will come. Had to. ๐
Accidentally downvoted you while scrolling on my phone, you get an upvote as an apology!
Why is this kid not getting some looks ?
http://www.hudl.com/video/3/4809046/57d4c46d3bd8141d2816bd09
I have no clue but he’s a hoss.
Yeah, looks powerful and has good size and speed.
Well I only saw one highlight of him actually taking on a block the rest were plays that he was completely left untouched. That would be my first guess of why maybe his tape has generated more interest and I have no idea how small or big his school is. He does look to have good size and tackles really well though.
Mid-level school that isn’t very good. Maybe that’s why.
Skill is skill, but I understand what you are saying.
Hmmmm…..no Hines but now Tyler Taylor is coming?
once he and his family see how difficult it is to get to PSU, they wont make the short list. (this is based on a few friends I have that went to PSU)
That is true. I worked for two different companies based in State College. It can be brutal.
22/322… very scenic tho… /s
Happy Valley is gorgeous in Spring and even Summer. Their stadium is very sterile, to view. They do have a good tailgate experience. It can get nasty cold and snowy there, too, which made the commuters out be often late or canceled
Tried it all, including going to Pitt or Scranton and driving. No good reliable options during winter.
Is it just me or are we recruiting an unusual number of LBs considering who we have already committed for 2017?
We don’t have hardly any ILBs on the roster or committed in this class besides Draper. That’s a pressing need right now as Jordan Evans is a senior and Tay is a Junior and we seriously need to upgrade the level of play at that position.
I guess you are referring to Tay being a Junior in the classroom?
Is he a RJr?
Junior in the classroom, Sophomore in the field.
My bad.
No worries, man. I was just trying to clarify.
I definitely agree on the upgrade of level of play!
Did not realize we were OLB heavy. Hopefully the recruits are smart enough not to get scared away by the number of LB commits total
Tay is only a Rs sophomore. We have Bolton, JM Terry, and Beal all at the ILB position. Hopefully they can get some PT and develop
And McGinnis, but I’m not sure how much more he will be able to develop. I still feel that out of the ones that you listed JMT will be very solid. He was very underrated out of HS.
“We have Bolton, JM Terry, and Beal all at the ILB position.” None of those guys, including McGinnis, played ILB in HS and they aren’t true ILBs.
ILB is a whole different ball of wax than playing OLB or DE with your hand in the dirt. They’re trying to plug some of those guys in at ILB because we have no depth there and that’s why those guys are struggling to break through IMO. They’re out of position.
I believe that JMT played ILB his Senior year, correct? I thought he made the switch from DLine to ILB between his Junior and Senior year?
Everything I see about Terry shows he played DE/TE. Tay Evans played OLB in HS as well and isn’t a true ILB and neither is Beal who played OLB in a striker type role off the edge in HS.
The other thing to think about is that we are play 4 LBs and if you want to be at least 2.5 deep at the position then you need at least 10 on the roster and I would guess they probably want at least 12.
Good point! I guess I’m just so underwhelmed at our CBs I’m hoping we can recruit more. Would also like another DT in this class
So the Mac suspends the officiating crew that blew the call in the OsU game. 24 hrs later, the B12 hires the same crew to call the TCU ISU game this weekend. Message from the B12 office – OS who? what?
Or they need to keep the streak alive. Meaning TCU will win on some weird fluke blown fumble call…
It’s satire.
funny, I thought my post was too. should I add the /s?

KJ – any practice notes?
Ummm…practice just started.
Best news I’ve heard all day!! Haha
Ok, thanks. I will await patiently your most informative information.
I’m not at practice lol…..but if I were I would say we’re stretching right now.
Snarky will get you a +1 every time. Just trying to keep the brown nosing to a dull roar.
haha!!,
We’re not spoiled but could you give us live to the second practice notes? ๐ lol
And?? Bob walking around talking to them? Good stuff. ๐
If we are picking up the recruitment of a Vanderbilt commit, that tells me a lot about how the coaches feel towards the current state of DLine recruiting.
They need some guys to shine Saturday for DL recruiting. Looking at you Charles Walker and Neville Gallimore
yep. time for the ‘B’ list.
We just need to win.
The recruits will come
I mean he also has offers from Michigan, Texas, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Oregon so you are right, he probably does suck.
There are actually players who want the prestigious degree from a school like Vandy. They get a degree from a prestigious school and get to play in the SEC. The problem is that they can’t get enough players because too few qualify. Can’t assume because the kid’s committed there that he is a sub par football player.
My point exactly. He had an offer from Harvard as well, so it is clear to me that he might take academics more seriously than a lot of other kids.
My point exactly. He had an offer from Harvard as well, so it is clear to me that he might take academics more seriously than a lot of other kids.
Is Arthur Mcginnis in the dog house, or just way behind on the depth chart? Kind of strange for a highly recruited kid to come in and not see him play. Also, Mbanasar has to be in the dog house, no other reason explains why he hasnt seen the field.
I honestly think he was more of a fan favorite than highly touted recruit. He was all over this website last summer but couldn’t find him mentioned much anywhere else outside of Louisiana
He saw playing time last week…
I wonder if the 3-4 defense hurts Dline recruiting. 3 lineman means less of a chance to play.
It does make recruiting difficult, especially if you run a 2-gap scheme. Just like running a pure zone coverage defense makes recruiting elite DBs harder.

We’ll this makes me worry a little.
He’s probably more anti-Urban Meyer than he is anti-OU
All Bama fans hate Meyer
That’s like Corso picking us…….DONT. Say we’re going to suck and Urban Liar will beat us down!
Damnit man, Where’s the OU hate?!?! .. gahd!!
Please, back us into a corner.
I dare you media!
I would still love to hear his reasons why we will win, though.
Really wish he had not done that
I really dont like that guy.
Finebaum is definitely in my basket of deplorables.
We agree on one thing. He despises Briles and hope he never gets another HC job anywhere.
He’s the Jerry Springer of college football.
I don’t think Jerry Springer will appreciate that
Neither do I. I feel that he has cursed us this Saturday.
What did Joey do to you?
WE’RE DOOOMED DOOOMED I TELL YA.
I wanted him to butt kiss urban meyer..
So did I. That usually turns out well for the Sooners.
The only thing worse? If Corso concurs. Then–we’re dead.

Hmmmm….TE? Seems odd.

Saw this earlier, funny stuff.
They got Austin Powers and James Bond on the DL
Stewie Griffin & Peter Griffin at Weak safety.
And The Dude at Roamer
Danny DeVito might have some trouble seeing over his center if it’s Kareem.
Bored at work. Random and legitimate question. When is the last time that OU has had good offensive AND defensive teams in the same season? Had to be the years between 2000-2004 right? Just the past few years it seems like 2008 was an offensive juggernaut with a so-so D, 2009 was a bad offensive year (injuries) with a really good defense anchored by G.K. McCoy, 2010 was a good offensive team with Landry settling in during year 2 but wasn’t very good on defense, and so on… Seems like the past decade or so OU is too reliant on one side of the ball to bail the other side out of a jam.
Now, that being said, there aren’t many teams in the country who have had equally great offense and defensive units in the same year. I’d say probably Alabama (most of the time), Michigan State, Florida State, and Clemson. Throw Ohio State in there too. These teams recruit really well year in and year out, and also have top notch coaching staffs. Then there is TTU who can score but not stop anybody else from scoring, and LSU never has a great offense but outstanding defense.
Maybe trades should be allowed in college sports. Athletes would have to agree of course, but who wouldn’t trade Kyler Murray for Tre’Davious White from LSU? They need a QB, we need a shut down, physical corner.
Ok, I’m done. Have a great day all and Boomer Sooner.
2008 was actually a good defense. It suffered from the fact that the starters were usually yanked in the second half and it faced passing only offenses trying to overcome the huge lead our offense and defense built. Also, that damned UT game.
That’s probably true too. Florida didn’t set the world on fire with their “dynamic” offense in the NCG. Completely shut down TTU during the jump around game too. Colt McCoy was just good though man. Bad as i hate to say it.
Just nitpicking but Michigan St and Clemson don’t recruit better than OU year in and year out.
Probably true. When was the last time OU had a defense as good as either MState or Clemson though? A long time right? I mean like top 5 in the country good. I’m being really lazy here in not checking the facts, but I feel like it’s been a while since OU scared people defensively.
Last years defense was actually good. It lead the Big 12 conference.
Best in the league does matter, to be sure. I guess the Clemson beat down is still fresh on my mind though. But that wasn’t just defense, it was an all around arse whipping.
Our defensive scheme isn’t aggressive. That’s a big part of the problem. It’s overly cautious and focused on protecting the secondary from the big play. We try to win with our secondary.
Nail on the head, Sir. I’ve long thought that the big 12 offensive style makes us play and recruit that way. Big 10 and SEC are more big physical smash mouth type conferences in general. Play those guys and we get out muscled. Meanwhile, Bama has had a tendency to struggle with up-tempo spread teams in the past. Lost to Ole’ Piss 2 years in a row now right?
Yet our record against the Sec in the last 10 years is what? I believe the only one that beat us was an up tempo spread team (a&m). Definitely agree with some of what you said though. But if we are going to be knocked for our big losses, let’s be fair, and give us credit for our big wins too. We have and do play with everyone.
Where would you judge the respective units last year?
I think last year OU was like 39th or so in total D right? That probably counts since the offense was top (I’m going to say 10-15?) overall. Last year is probably as close to the whole package as they’ve had in a while. Man I miss Striker, and the ole’ double move biter Sanchez.
Im not sure if 39th is correct or not but being in a league with Baylor, TTech, TCU and OSU skewer the D numbers dramatically compared to much lower scoring conferences.
That’s what it really comes down to, IMO. Michigan, Iowa, and Michigan State are good teams, but beat you in different ways than OSU, Baylor, and TTU beat you. Same as the SEC with LSU and Bama.
Yep. I miss Striker, wish he’d only been a junior last year. Sanchez – left too early.
OU needs to be the first one ever to offer an 8 year old…

Yo, that’s Will Latu.
Kid looks Tongan, but I think he’s Samoan. Either way, sign him up.
That is AWESOME!!!!! Trucking’em!

I did something I don’t normally do, listen to sports talk radio. Synopsis: tOSU is bigger, faster, stronger has more higher ranked athletes and are more physical. They out match OU at every position. OU will not be able to run, throw or get off the sidelines. No chance of winning for OU. Sigh…oh the humanity… lol..
They’re smaller than we are.
So, basically the same thing people were saying about us compared to Houston? ๐
Yes! thats what I want to hear…more doubt! Nobody is picking us….well, except for Finnebum…still annoyed with that.
Finnebaum picked us?!? WE ARE SCREWED!?
I KNOW RIGHT!?!?!
As long as Lee Corso doesn’t pick us
100% correct
I really don’t think anyone’s prediction is as important as OUr team’s. I’m hoping all our guys know without a doubt the game will be tough and they are the winners already in their minds. Fbomb may be looking for a way to validate his Stoop is irrelevant statement.
I hope the pundits keep the OU disses coming all week and that the team hears or reads every one of them.
Finenbaum is tired of being embarrassed and having to put on his OU hat every time he picks against OU. He doesn’t think we’ll win.
…
Eeeeewww. Even in proper colors, the guy is just….icky.
Exactly. He’s certainly hedging himself right now.
as long as Corso and Mark Rogers doesn’t pic us we stand a chance. If they do we are toast.
Stephen Dale has a sports talk show?
#winner
I watched a little bit of both Buckeye games this year and it’s difficult for me not to come to the same conclusion. I realize that puts me in the same category as local sports talk personalities, and that makes me frown. I know the competition they have faced isn’t great, but I haven’t seen anything that resembles a talent drop off from losing all those players to the NFL. Ohio State is absolutely loaded.
But you know, sooner magic has me keeping my fingers crossed.
Did you honestly watch the first half of the Ohio State – Tulsa game? Tulsa had plenty of success against them and was not getting torched in the trenches. OU is going to whip tOSU.
Won’t “whip” them, but i think OU has the horses to get it done. Literally, they pull the Schooner. Might not be a high scoring affair. I could see 21-17 actually. Don’t know why but I think OU contains the run game, and the DBs look much more comfortable. They’ll get beat some, sure, but I think we’ll get pressure on Barrett.
That first half is the only thing giving me hope. I’m tempted to tell myself it’s because Tulsa was their look-ahead game to OU and excuse that half – you know – chalk it up to going through the motions and all.
I’m a worrier by nature anyway, so this is like RRR week for me. Every time I get confident, this team breaks my heart.
Tulsa is better than that score indicated, tOSU is a bit over hyped,* me hoping not to look like a fool after this weekend.
Dusty Dvorachek (Sp?) said that Ohio State is better than OU and mentioned Urban Meyer having his guys ready to play. Said nothing of what OU brings to the table or Bob Stoops having any role in the outcome. Traber did say that Stoops is at his best when backed into a corner, so there is something somewhat positive. They also all crowed about Texas being back. “I know it’s UTEP, but man they dominated that game”. OU dominated ULM, why is nobody projecting us to win it all by 50 points? Man I hate Texas.
Funny thing about that game, even though they dominated was UTEP’s Jones ran very well against them. 18 carries 123 yards, 6.8 ypc and a 51 yard td.
Yea. I’m convinced that Note Dame has a pretty mediocre defense. UTEap obviously is not very good. Texas is better, UT not “back”. My hope is that if they’re good again, OU will take them seriously and show up to play for once.
We aren’t very fond of y’all either. That being said, I think you guys expose tOSU as long as Baker keeps his poise in the pocket…and you actually have a game plan that employs the ridiculous amount of talent you have in the backfield. They lost a lot of talent to the NFL. I don’t care who you are…that leaves holes early in the season.
From your lips(er-keyboard) to God’s ears.
I wonder if any of them watched the Tulsa game?
I like it when they are not in favor of us.
So back up plan if OU misses on Phillips and Hines
Well, Tyler Taylor appears to be pretty interested in us as well
Probably current commit, Kenneth Murray. Plays inside and outside
Can any body tell me how I can get a couple of BOOM T-shirts.
Yea! are they still for sale? I need a white shirt since my section (13) is white for the striped stadium thing. I obviously wouldn’t get it in time to wear Saturday, but they are sweet shirts.
From the glass is half full eyes. tOSU, is talented for sure, a FR rb who looks big and fast, a great dual threat QB. A solid OL and a big TE. They have a young D, they have 3 returning starters but one at each level a DE that seems fast and plays at home, a LB that is a stud better than any LB we have and a DB that is a CB that is pretty athletic and big and though they start 3 new faces it helps when you can count on one guy to shut down his side. But the counter to that is I feel tOSU has played pretty vanilla the first two games. Looking to us they could cause their talent was way better than that of BG and TU. However despite the great classes tOSU has had, they are playing against a much better team than they have faced all year. We have speed and we have talent in the right areas to cause them issues. I feel we can attack the edges with the run game and on play action type passes, they have no one to keep up with Mixon, Perine, Andrews, or Flowers if we choose to throw the ball to them. We need to rotate a lot of guys, as we need to stay fresh. Someone asked about them using our speed against us well we need to do the same to them. They will be coached up but, so will OUr boys. I think Stoops even in a loss will make sue tOSU knows they came to play in Norman. I will even say in a win or loss this helps get some recruits and even gets the media to shake their heads and say OU is almost there. I say we win 38-24 BOOMER!!!
Their RB isn’t big.
He looked big to me but, TU was also small.
He’s 5-10 and 212lbs. He ran all over BG and had a decent but not great day against Tulsa.
Their WR is by far their biggest weapon on O imo. Barrett’s solid, but I’m not sure he’s better than Mahomes or Stidham was. OL didn’t impress vs Tulsa, but they may have been looking ahead to us. That WR though, he’ll cause us trouble.
J.D. Kolb, Choctaw HS, class of 2019, Demarco Murray’s nephew. Sorry it took a while, didn’t want to break rules on the town hall. ๐
Thanks Ray!
I haven’t found film on him, probably because he’s so young. Heard about him from Brandon who has been following him and is watching him play. Claims he is a stud and has the DNA.
Disregard my post below, here is some film.

Awesome!
He is like a mini Demarco. By 2019 he should be the real deal.
He certainly looked the part. Fast and shifty, with plenty of strength to power through tackles. And just a freshman. Can’t wait to see how he develops. Do you know if that was the varsity team he was on? The competition looked kind of small/slow.
I’m guessing that is a freshman team. As he gets older, the competition will mature and we will get a better feel for just how good he is. One to keep a close eye on though.
That’s what I expected. Still, assuming he continues to grow into a body like his uncle’s, he shouldn’t have a problem with any level of competition.
Yep, and we should have an inside track if he does turn out.
Man tOSU fan is pretty arrogant.
I work with one and friends with another. When it comes to their sports, arrogant is an understatement.
tOSU fan base are the Gaggies of the North.
One has reason to be arrogant, the other does not.
Go to the Eleven Warriors website , tOSU fans are extremely confident about their chances of smacking OU.

Wonder if they will give him a Medical RS.
sure hope so
Dang! That is terrible news. We need him.
i agree. liked a Dline of him gallimore and walker
Damn that sucks.
Sucks, kid played hard Sat.
I got to watch him play in HS, always wanted and expected him to do big things. Hopefully he makes a strong comeback.

I know that it’s Deano doing the interview, but it was a nice little glimpse of the young man that Mykel is. Seems to be an intelligent kid.
Just saw a headline that Marquis Overton is out for the season with a foot injury suffered during the ULM game.
You should have been reading here then.

Somewhat surprising to hear him say that.
Coach speak.
Not really. Thibs has that DLine playing this year better than they were last year.
The coach talk about the secondary was what got me.
