Liked the “Day in the Life of Mark Andrews.” I look forward to the “day” for some DBs covering him – that will be a rough day for them!
Durron Neal’s photo…..Blake Bell is a very large human.
I met him in person after their bowl game against I think uconn.. And I’m not a small person around 6’2″ 6’3″ and he made me feel small! He is pushing 6’7″ lol he is a giant haha
I wish he would do well, but he’s like 4th on their depth cart ?
Man, is it in the air or what? I was at OU between 1975 and 1980, but even after over 40 years, its the same feeling every fall. The anticipation as always, is just through the roof. My wife, kids, grandkids, even the dog, look at me rather funny at this time of the year. Its like “what the hell is wrong with him?” hehe
LOL!!! Me too. I was in school from 1980 – 1984 and I still get amped up.
Not a bad thing at all! It’s just an exciting time
I wish the season began this weekend.

Well, my 4.7 is now a 7.4 so I’m not hanging round my phone.
I’m 250 and 6ft…think they’d let me? But of course it’s not all muscle! Lol
If we’re down to 5th RB, might as well give the ball to Zeus Jr and let someone try to bring him down.
I would pay a lot of money to see this happen
If Perine, Mixon, Brooks, and Adams can’t go, or need a breather, I’m guessing Flowers would be next in line to get carries.
Flowers is a pretty good option.
It seemed before we hit the summer that all the articles were about Oklahoma and the uncertainty of how Houston. Now that the summer has passed, I’m reading more about how well Houston is and the uncertainty/question marks for Oklahoma.
There’s been a bunch of storms here in Houston over the past week…. little do they know that it’s just the beginning of a bigger storm that will be coming from Oklahoma on September 3rd. BOOM!!
Good Morning All! I will be in San Jose for the Houston game and wondering what the best plan is for a 9am kickoff. Do bars open that early for CFB? If not, wheres the best place to go watch? Any suggestions are welcomed and highly appreciated!
I don’t think they watch football in San Jose.

Why is there no love for Jordan Thomas and our two headed monster at safety? I feel like Stephen Parker is a monster and can cover better than most safety’s in college.
Re: NFL.com article and Baker descriptions:
Chase Daniel – Sorry Baker sticks to food served on a plate.

Love that “Land Grant Holy Land” Article. Someone from the OSU perspective acknowledging that OU is probably Ohio State’s toughest game this year
How could Ohio state fans possibly not believe we are their toughest game of the year? Lol
Whether they should believe we’re their toughest game or not (they should), the Big 12 has no respect nation-wide, and I suspect that many a Ohio St fan believes this won’t be as hard as Michigan or Michigan State
Which is why we need this victory. The momentum gained from a win like that on and off the field would be massive for us.
Much agreed!

Mr. Dave, how are you today, sir? Great day to be a Sooner!!!!
Howdy Hound. Im doing well how about you?
Its Monday and we have 12 days to wait, Dave. I’ll get through it. π
Yep less than 2 weeks to go is awesome
I really think that the two main battles in the Houston game will be Houstons front seven vs OU O-line and Our linebackers vs Greg Ward and the RB Catalon. I can see them giving us fits on both but I don’t know how they are going to stop Baker, Perine, or Mixon. They may sell out to stop the run like they did FSU but that’s when Baker goes off.
Exactly. They sold out all season last year with blitz after blitz after blitz and we just need to take advantage of that. They pinned their ears back that entire game against Florida states statue of a QB and if they do that against us then I think we smoke them.
Live by the blitz
Die by the blitz.
Blitzing is a great D against a strong passing team…..as long as their QB is not mobile. Pretty sure that Baker has something to say about that.
Play calling and hot reads are also great neutralizers for the blitz. A nicely timed screen is a perfect counter-punch to an all-out blitz.
Joe and Samaje will have some screen opportunities
Yes. Plus just routes to the flat. I’ve been preaching it all off season but I hope we use our WR to set up routes for our running backs in the pass game much like the Patriots and steelers in the NFL. They are just too talented to not get them the rock.
Yep plus Mixon one on one is always a good thing (for OU). Make them miss and grab 20 or 30 yards
Demarco made a living in the flat.
Gresham was such a threat in the middle of field + our great run game..
Those swing plays to the flat were easy plays that destroyed Defenses.
I have never heard that, good one Dawg!!!!!
Good morning Metz!
They have a serious DB problem. Tons of youth there. My guess is that we use the pass to establish the running game.
That’s what I was thinking too.
That’s what I was thinking too.
I think the battle is Bob/Mike vs Tom Herman…
This isn’t a UTEP coach, BYU coach, or even Patterson..
Tom Herman is a great coach that is going to test every single newcomer on our D to find his wrinkle to exploit.
LB not taking the right angles…. DB downfield over aggressiveness for PIs….. or lack of pass rush.
Mike/Bob need OUr boys need to come out sharp and ready to throw the kitchensink at this team.
Very good points. Was seeing FSUs game against Houston. I had the similar conclusions to yours.
We have an adv with our TE and Receivers against their DBs. We have an adv on the D Line and DBs wrt to their Oline and WRs.
On paper, this should not be that close, but as FSU did, if we have multiple turnovers, it could be a close one.
Dont forget #12 Mr Box!
I’m curious about Charles Walker. We’ve heard them say how much more improved Gallimore is. We’ve heard from Coach BB that Obo is a problem, but I can’t remember anyone say that Charles Walker looked dominant or even have his name mentioned much. What’s up with that?
I wouldn’t read to much into that.
Walker is going to be a force.
The other 2 you mentioned are unknowns that we need to bring their best game this year if we want to get back to the playoffs.
Yep, this worries me more than replacing the guards on the O-line. We are already light at LB so those front boys are going to have to bring it every play. That’s a problem considering our depth.

Good luck to him.
Good luck to him.
I may be different than most others but until they prove that someone can step up and be the go to guy, I’m concerned about our receivers. Shep was the man in critical situations. No one else has proven they can fill that position.
Dont think anyone person can. It’ll have to be a group effort. I do think Mixon will have a lot more opportunities for receptions
LOL uh huh, great minds….
I think Mixon has 1500 total yards
Very likely. I am expecting to see him both out of the backfield and at slot as well.
Yep probably will use him like they did Demarco
Well he’s rushing for over 1k so yeah, all purpose yards will easily surpass 1500 π
both backs will be over 1000 total yards.
Yes sir! Both over 1k rushing
They will both rush for over 1k. This offense will be deadlier than 08 when we had 2 thousand yard rushers.
yep, you hit Perine with open ground in front of him, that’s bad news. Some DB is gonna have cleat marks on his chest.
If he returns kickoffs and/or punts, he will be plus 1,500.
I don’t think that you will see one “go to” guy. I think you will see Mayfield spread it around a lot.
it’ll be fun to watch… pop it over the middle to Andrews or Mixon a few times, then burn ’em deep, then plow Optimus or Mixon through for some smash-mouth and then as a change up, Brooks or Adams… so many threats- just hope Riley keeps ’em on their heels with all of these weapons
We will still need a consistent downfield threat added to the equation. Westbrook might be the only guy.
We will still need a consistent downfield threat added to the equation. Westbrook might be the only guy.
Dee Dee is probably closest to being a true No. 1. But there are other models that have worked for us. 2000 was a great example of a spread-the-ball-around approach that worked out nicely. We certainly have the talent to do that this year and the guy that can distribute the ball. Assuming Dee Dee does not turn out to be a Shep/Broyles/Clayton Classic No. 1, I am looking to see if we will use this model.
nm… just no passing stats for JH
Wish I could say I had a spreadsheet for all of these stats. These are not mine. I pulled this from college football reference (awesome stat nerd site). This set of stats only shows rushing and receiving. So the first set of columns are directed to rushing for the 2000 year, the second set of columns are for receiving for the 2000 year, and the third set of columns are for yards from scrimmage for rushing and receiving only (i.e., not passing). For sake of simplicity, I probably should have just lopped off the third set of columns.
I may be different than most others but until they prove that someone can step up and be the go to guy, I’m concerned about our receivers. Shep was the man in critical situations. No one else has proven they can fill that position.
Good Mornin, TFB and all who support this AWESOME site!!!! No weekend OP threw me off. But, I appreciate the material that was published. I can’t wait till Sept.3rd, I believe we are going to dominate this year. Idk, there’s just something in the air reminding me of the 2000 run. still listing Quick as a WR there…
Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t release one at all. But it could come anytime between now and next Saturday. I’d expect early week of the game, but maybe a couple days earlier than that.
Thank you sir!
Thank you sir!
Durron, could make the Broncos roster. I hope so. If he’s given a chance, he could be very solid and have good career in the NFL.
Why is Bama ranked No.1? If that was OU with a new QB to break in, that would not be the case. I think it says more about how the state of the $EC than anything.
They’ve won 4 rings in 7 years with no one at the QB spot lol
True. I’ll give them that.
Exactly. They deserve to be there.
I know. I just hate them.
They had a new QB last year too and they didn’t miss a beat. Good team and I would rather have them at #1.
Simple, three words….
SEC
Bama
Bias
Big push from ESPin as well. Did you see yesterday? Nothing but Bama games on ESPNU.
6 straight #1 recruiting classes lol.
Didnt they win the last NC? Absolutely deserve it.
I think they’ve shown they can win with marginal QB play. I’ll be happy if we’re #1 after the season.
CBS Sports – “Blind luck: In September 2014, Oklahoma scheduled games
against Houston for 2016 and 2019. The Sooners sold it as a way to
showcase themselves in one of the nation’s largest markets. Ohio State
was already on the Sooners’ 2016 schedule as the big-name opponent for
Week 3. Houston was coming off an 8-5 season, not a 13-1 record in 2015
with a bowl win over Florida State. To their credit, the Sooners didn’t
back out of Houston. Oklahoma-Houston, now with the backdrop of possible
Big 12 expansion, is a rare example when scheduling a couple years in
advance gives us a better matchup than initially expected.
https://twitter.com/Jake_Trotter/status/767728220539977728
Well, isn’t he just a bucket of sunshine this morning?
He was just in a hurry so he could type up a love fest tweet about Mahomes and Tech. Then he would go on to say that they are a dark horse to win the conference and grab a birth to the CFP.
I’m convinced he isn’t a real person, but just a room full of monkeys with typewriters. Only way to explain the madness.
Immmmmmm, pretty sure this DL would have a hard time starting with the Selmon brothers on the roster. Randy Hughes, strong safety for the NFL Cowboys was all American, and Rod Shoate, All American at LB. That’s pretty hard to beat. Not to mention this D only allowed an average of 8 points a game and the high against them was 14. Oh, plus they had three shutouts.
Jimbo Elrod, Baccus, Peters, Scott Hill, just to name a few others.
Yeah, Jimbo went to East Central in Tulsa. Was a year a head of me there. Nicest guy you ever met, until he put on a football helmet. I hated practice. haha Hill was a real headhunter.
I understand that they were great, but they would have to go against a totally different monster in thisday and age. I just don’t think you can compare the two.
But that’s part of the game. You defense against the offense that you’re gonna play. Our D would look different in the SEC and probably if we were in the Big 10.
I wasn’t alive back in those days, but how many offenses were there back then that could light up the score board like the offenses of today?
Oh I don’t know. We hung half a hundred on many a team. And yes, there were great passing teams then too. What, you think that all of the great passers of those times like Nameith, Montana, Elway, et al just started throwing the rock in the NFL?
No. It was an honest question. You just hear of more QB’s in college that are running prolific offenses because of the system that they are in.
But, this is starting to sound like two generations bickering about which decade of football was better. Not what I was wanting, but whatever. The strength and conditioning programs now a days are quite a bit ahead of what they were back then. Sure, you had the freaks like the Selmons, but as a collective group of athletes they seem to be bigger and running just as fast as the smaller guys were back in the day.
The rules have changed to score more points. You’d be surprised at some of the marks set in the weight room and in practice 30-40 plus years ago. There have always been naturally gifted freakishly good athletes but today you are seeing more great athletes as a result of the heavy emphasis on athletic training.
Seemed to me that it was just always a ground and pound attack. QB’s didnt sling it like they do now.
Jake Trotter is the 3rd string on his flag football team.
3rd string baby back…. person
Maybe not, but Jake Trotter could not write for a high school paper in 1974 – only the dissolution of the profession has allowed him ANY such job!
Immmm Trotter wasn’t even born then.
And neither were the current players – The fact that he may be right would be a matter of him reading what others have said about 1974.
He is not of the quality of 1974 writers.
Jake Trotter? Never heard of him
He may be right. It doesn’t mean OU doesn’t currently have great players, but that 1974 defense was one of the all-time greats.
Absolutely! Shut out Nebraska and killed texsa. A LOT of AA on that D!
