– Team Note | Cornerback Battle: Spoke to a few sources and was told that both Dakota Austin and PJ Mbanasor have been a bit dinged up this week. As a result, both have been limited and/or did not got at all with respect to some practices this week. In the meantime, Michiah Quick has been taking first team reps along side Jordan Thomas (who bumps over to RCB in that scenario).
Word is that Quick is pickly things up…quickly. We’re told Quick had an interception earlier in the week and while he’s still working to be consistent, his play making ability is showing up in practice.
Certainly would not go so far as to say he will unseat Austin for that other starting spot, but it does sound as though Quick is taking full advantage of his time as a first team player right now. – (Super K)
– Team Note | Intensity: In my (K) opinion, the most promising note I heard from practices earlier this week was that a number of skirmishes had broken out between some the offensive and defensive linemen. Apparently guys were very keyed up and it wound up turning into some extracurricular stuff after the whistle.
Some may disagree with me on this, but personally I think that kind of stuff (within reason, of course) is a good sign. It tells me that these guys are starting to play with an edge and the competition level is intense. – (Super K)
– Joseph Lewis: Most Sooner fans have been fixated on when WR Omar Manning plans to announce his commitment, as the Sooners could still have room for one more receiver in this 2017 class. However, one other name of note for that possible spot is that of Hawkins (Los Angeles) High School wide receiver Joseph Lewis.
Lewis has been in constant contact with Sooners outside wide receiver coach Dennis Simmons, and told TFB that that OU is “up there” on his list of top schools. Lewis also has set up an official visit to Norman for the Baylor game on November 12th.
It’s always hard to get California kids out of the Golden State, though OU has clearly been more successful than most at doing just that in recent years. Lewis, however, has visited schools from all over the country, thus seemingly increasing the possibility he could look to eventually leave the state for the right fit. If OU can get Lewis on campus, anything is possible. – (Brandon)

First
Second!
Manning or Lewis for that last WR spot…If neither of them commit, give the spot to LB or DL.
Or give it to the deserving walk on Basquine
they’ve got plenty of open schollies right now to still give him one regardless
Imo this is great, puts a little pressure on Manning to lock up his spot or take a chance to go after a big time wr, hope our cali sooners will help both on sooners squad 17 and current members Mixon, Quick, Bolton, and coach chip
How bout we wait until he actually plays in a game before handing him a scholarship?
A kid doesn’t need to perform on the field to earn a scholly… Sure it helps but certain types of selfless players that work their butt off and help the team get better in other ways also are deserving but that is my opinion
It’s not very common to give scholarships to walk-ons that don’t earn significant playing time. And when it does happen, it’s usually b/c there were extra scholarships sitting around.
Good to hear about the practice intensity – get after it!
Speaking of practice, OU snapchat posting some practice videos right now
I’m sure they are exhilarating 😉
For now, I’ll take what I can get 🙂
I understand.
It’s what they’ve conditioned us to accept 😉
I knew I should have taken the red pill!!!
Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.
do you remember way back when SoonerSports used to actually put out great info? I think 06 is the last season I really remember in depth reports.
It’s gotten worse, or maybe less is the more appropriate word, every year since. The fact they felt those 90-second practice clips were too much access for us, apparently, just makes me laugh.
I appreciate the work that goes into what they’re doing now and I’d guarantee there are a number of people who enjoy them, but these “practice report” videos they do are beyond worthless to me. But I get I’m not the type of fan they are catering to with those, or frankly most of what they give us. It’s for the “casual” fan who does have/make the time to follow as closely as someone like myself.
for sure
You could always depend on Deano and Beri to tell you what’s going on. I like more in depth, too, but I’ll take what I can get. Is there a scrimmage today?
I’m curious if this has more to do with the coaches not wanting this info out as it is SS.
Great note on Quick and the intensity on both lines. Love to hear it!!
Just out of curiosity what difference does it make what side a corner plays on?
A significant one.
Changes which way you’re rolling coverages, ect , ect. Too early to type up a long explanation, so I’ll let someone else do it 🙂
You would think everything would just be reverse.
I like Austin as the starter, but I’m pulling for Quick to eventually win out with his incredible speed and total skill set.
Joe Lewis can sure break through tackles! And he’s very fast, as well, but seems to like the contact to the point it usually takes more then one person to get him down. I like this kid.
He’s almost like Mixon in that sense except obviously he’s a receiver. I love it too 🙂
Quick might already have been an All-American if he started out at CB at OU. Everybody in the country wanted him at CB out of HS. He’s very talented.
He was one of highest ranked CB in the country, the coaches was able to snag him based on the promise he got a legitimate shot at WR. He will be the starter by the end of the season.
Thank goodness we gave him his chance at WR then. It will end up giving us two big time corners by the end of the season.
Definitely going to be a case of “first come, first served”. Guys better not wait to long, or there won’t be a spot available. Not a bad problem to have. SS17 is looking like it could be Bob’s Best.
No doubt. This is one of the most elite athletic group of kids, we’ve had committed in a long time!
And 2018 crew could be even better. Need to focus on finishing up 2017 class on a high note, but 2018 has started pretty well
Funny that just earlier today someone ( not going to name names ) was asking why any of us believed OU had a chance with Joseph Lewis, well there you have it sir! That kid would be a total hoss for us. Lewis, city boy greg, Chaisson, Hines and Okudah are who I want to round out this class.
Still think the chance is very small. Fingers crossed though!
As do I, but it still says something about the relationship if he’s continued to place us at the top of his list.
Thats good stuff.
Nice Christmas list. Just ps Taquon Graham to it and I’m good.

Meh. He’s still so young. We are going to be hitting the edge on them anyways.
Perine will truck his a@@ over.
We do have some monsters OUrselves that already proved it.
ZZZZZ…please, Mr Ward, get back with me when “gonna be” changes to “is”. 😉
Ed Oliver meet my friend Big Zeus.
He’s a DT so he’ll probably be facing Ford or Samia the most.
They have him at 3-4 DE
I see Oliver playing all the dline positions. Kid is very versatile.

Love that note on Geno Lewis’ catch. And pumped to see more Andrews
I shake my head every time I see someone take a single tweet and try to milk a “story” out of it for clicks, which often times involves little more than writing a headline and embedding the tweet.
Not much of a read on that!
It sucks when they milk a story for clicks , i didnt read it but i just posted it for people who are interested.
Everyone has been sleeping on Joesph Lewis. My USC buddies told me Joesph Lewis is definitely open to taking his talents out of the state. Joesph Lewis is personally one of favorite players in the 2017 class. This dude doesnt talk trash , he doesnt care about the recruiting publicity , this dude just takes care of his business. If he commits to OU i can easily see him being named the starter from day one. Joesph is already NFL ready.
already NFL ready?
Physically he is a freak! Has length has speed and quickness and will go up and get the ball! He has all the tools which is the reason he is the top wr in this class
I’m just saying there is a huge jump between high school stud and NFL receiver. DGB was the #1 player in the country and there was no way he would have seen the field in the NFL at 19.
He has NFL size and play making abilities. Dude is legit.
If anyone has pushed for this guy more than I have I need proof lol I truly think it’s very possible to pull him outta Cali similar to other Cali kids we’ve pulled in the last 7 or 8 years! I’m still fixated that he is the silent commit even if he doesn’t know it yet!
after taking 5 receivers in the last recruiting class , USC should have no leverage in keeping Lewis in LA…….would be great to see him in Crimson & Crème.
OU has never landed a type of Wide Receiver like him. Im hoping we get him.
Yea that was the reason I went back through recruiting classes to see who the top wr we have ever pulled in the stoops era.. Who do you think it was
Metoyer?
I would think Metoyer was the most highly ranked coming into college….
Just looked it up, highest ranked was Metoyer
never could figure out that high ranking. dude couldn’t run a sideline route and stay in bounds
High school wr was adron tennell
Neal
Metoyer and some other 5 star kid. Both were obviously bust.
Metoyer was at a military academy so he was graded as the top prep wideout not the top hs wr but it doesn’t have his hs grade
Which could be argued
The other kid i believe transfered to Arkansas St.
Was that that Gardner kid?
The one that made the rap video about shooting people was the number 1 WR in the Nation, no?
jarboe?
I think that was his name, yeah.
No he was 8 I think
Oh, ok.
Where was Kelley ranked? Anyone remember?
Huh? Dude went to Whitehouse and was graded #2 that year, ahead of Sammy Watkins, Jarvis Landry and ODB Jr. He didn’t qualify and went to Hargrave, and came in the following year. We definitely hit “IT” that year in landing him and the year after when he came from prep
247 has him at 4
Adron tennell
I would say Malcom Kelly was similar

Great to see quick taking advantage of his opportunity!
Id sure love to have lewis, but he sure seems high on the huskers if he gets out of cali. Hopefully when the season starts and he sees what both teams do with WR, that will change his mind.
I think Nebraska’s receivers coach has some issues. He may not be long for Lincoln.
Id take any advantage we can get in landing a kid like lewis
Reading some of the comments below I really worry that some of yall are taking Houston to lightly they are going to give ou a real test, if ou doesn’t play really well it could be a really long game.
the fans opinion of Houston will have no bearing on the outcome of the game…
Great minds, I suppose. I don’t know, though, if you want to be in my company. LOL!
I understand that, I’m just stating this in the case ou were to lose (heaven forbid) it wont be as a complete shock.
I’m always shocked when OU loses. LOL!
I live in denial a week or so after a lose lol.
I still haven’t gotten over last Oct RRS !!!! still can’t figure out where the real OU team was that day. had to be some guys masquerading as Sooners ……………
I think that texsa loss was very important for this team in the long run.
You’re up on OU so you should’ve read all the tweaks Riley did to the offense after that game. In addition, there were changes to the OL too so like Scott said, it sucked but in the end it worked out for the best. Can’t ever say OU won’t adjust.
the offense didn’t beat OU last year ; it was a lack of defensive adjustments by one Mike Stoops.
Go back and look at the OL as UT had their way blitzing Mayfield. So you’re saying all we need to do is score 17 and have a ton of 3 and outs and we should win?
We changed OL, DBs, & Riley made adjustments.
Offense 3 of 12 3rd down conversions.
Offense 67 yards rushing
1 fumble to 0 turnover for UT.
Yep, guess you could say MS lost it for us last year.
Kokevo, what we do and say, here, is not what matters. I do not impact the play on the field. I would, however, pay attention to how the players view this game. I think you will see, they are locked in.
I trust Baker Mayfield & this coaching staff. This team is highly motivated and have something to prove. I actually think their has been to much hype for Houston , all these College football analyst have been hyping up Houston plus Houston mayor predicted ( i believe ) a easy win for Houston.
Yeah Houston mayor predicted “In this first game, I think we’ll win by 14 or possibly 21 points. Then, we’ll look for some stiffer competition.”
Jackwagon
the Houston mayor probably put a 5 figure bet on OU to win the game. he covered his voting base by predicting a Houston blowout and he covered his a** by betting on the Sooners………..
True. OU has historically been a very slow, early season, team. If these guys are chippy though, that is a good sign that they are not sleeping on cougar high. The problem is they ended the year with a great win over FSU. We lost. They have this circled, where OU does not circle games as a rule. They stand to gain the most.
This reminds me of playing BSU.
They are going to throw everything at us plus the kitchen sink (reads as statue of liberty).
Emotion will rule the first qrt. Turnovers and penalties will be key for us to avoid a BSU moment.
Their QB is a handful. We need a steady dose of Perine and Mix to control the clock and grind up their D. This could be a scary game if we can’t rack up TOP.
As I’ve previously said. Im really glad that we have Kyler Murray on the Scout team. He could be the difference between a win and a loss against Houston.
That’s a damn good point.
Very good point. I had not thought about that. While I do think Houston will definitely be a challenge for the first game, I do think UH, and the city of Houston, is getting full of themselves at times (See mayor predicting a huge win). I think if OU comes out, plays ball, limits stupid mistakes (holding, false starts, turnovers), I think OU will control the game. I know that can be said about every game, and I have not watched any film on Houston, but I feel like their quality win was over a FSU team that wasn’t as good as previous years.
OL needs to be ready.
The last sentence is particularly true. Houston is going to come at OU like TN did last year, hair on fire fueled by disrespect. They have a very stout D-line…which has me worried, but they have almost no one in the secondary left and OU has possibly a top 3 nationally secondary.
They marched through FSU last year, but to be fair…FSU was Dalvin Cook, esp after their QB got hurt. OU isn’t just Perine/Mixon. I imagine Houston will stick to us like glue in the first half much like every team did, and then run out of gas.
I really hope we come out on the first drive and punch them in the mouth. Make them try and stop Perine/Mixon. Hopefully our line plays well and Houston has to bring the house to stop the run. Then we let Mark Andrews abuse the middle of the field.
Time to scout the opponent: Cook only had 33 yards…
https://youtu.be/Cq8RW3jS0tg
Agreed its gonna be a tough game that they will need to fire on all cylinders to win
All I want is a win so my labor day doesn’t suck…. don’t care how… just win
As long as the “fiestyness” isnt personal fouls like last year, im glad to hear about it, I have thought they were missing the desire to dominate up front on both sides in recent years.
I love the “skirmishes” happening between the linesmen. Shows that they are both trying to dominate the other and be the alpha dog, which we need. Hopefully the alpha dog, I’m going to dominate you, mentality translates to the field, while they can keep it controlled and not commit any personal fouls.
Personall foul calls pissed me off so much during tha Baylor game.
I remember some in the WV game as well. I remember constantly saying, “WTF?”.
Texas seems to think Manning is theirs to lose. not sure why tho. Also Manning was talking about committing somewhere before september. Either way, guys like Joseph lewis get a spot no matter how many WR we already have committed.
Texas thinks every kid they offer is theirs to lose.
I wish i could upvote this a million times.
aint that the truth…im just wondering when its real or when its delusional because boy they are delusional.
And am I crazy or is Notre Dame -4 easy $$$$ ??
Texsa fans are sleeping on Notre Dame. Notre Dame always have top 10 recruiting classes and have a pretty good coaching staff.
We found out what it is like to think you can beat ND at home.
I hope it’s easy money. I took them when it first opened at got it at -1.5
nice
texsa SUCKS!
Well they’re right about one thing. They end up losing them.
Texas – they’ll lose the recruits or lose with those recruits.
Dustin-*texsa*-)
When you have ole Red McCombs check book, sometimes they are UT’s to lose. Hey, I’m not saying they are paying but they are tired of losing.
They also at one point said “Hines is ours put it in your calendar” then they said “Okudah is ours to lose.” Now even they think Hines is going our way and definitely ate it when Okudah’s top 10 had no Texsa in it.
If Joseph Lewis puts us in the top 2 and wants to make a signing day decision I won’t be able to take it. From watching Julio Jones to DGB to other stud WRs make us their #2 choice is just cruel.
I think our class will be full well before signing day. I wish Lewis were coming in September because I’m not sure there will be a spot left in November.
Even if we’re full they’d find a way to make a spot for him. Same with Wilson, Rogers, Okudah and Hines.
Futility is the name of the game 75% of the time when go after the #1 player at their position. You merely have to chase a bunch of them to sign a few. Its the name of the game.
Jordan’s breakout WR pick has been getting a lot of love on social media lately. https://twitter.com/ou_football/status/766303465811300352
JY Has a post up!
The GERMANS have left my job site, yeeeeeeeeehawwwwwwwwww!
Hurra, hurra – das Leben ist gut!
Auf wiedersehen, suckas!! I bet west Texas was a culture shock for em.
Yes ,to bad we didnt have blowing dirt!
Bull, there’s always blowing dirt, it’s just a matter of how much. 😉
True!
Did the Americans liberate you? Battle of the Bulge, part II?
Why yes,yes they did!!!!!
I think this is Patton saying “there’s the llama, where’s Metz?”.

Scratch and sniff.
Picking your butt again i see.
Ewwwww!!! You’re nasty.
GEEZ you posted it OMG.
What’s up, dude? How’s the concrete pouring these days?
Poured 260 yrds of slab this am,started at 3am.Had time to look TFB but all was asleep!
Look at you!
My late father was awarded a bronze star at the Battle of Metz. Miss you Dad.
“You can see the new scoreboard from here.”
A lot of talk about the CBs.. What about Safety ? We know the 1s have not heard anything on Kahlil Haughton, Will Sunderland, and Prentice McKinney ? Are they ready in case a injury ?
Seems like a lot if not all positions are 3 deep with either experience or at least talent.. What about Safety ?
I wish you guys would quit putting up video of players like this. After watching that, now I’m like, “Omar, who?”
Does Stanvon Taylor really even exist or is he just a figment of our collective imaginations?
Arent all oklahoma athletes figments of our imagination.. See Dalton Wood /s
Lol, I don’t think he has the tools upstairs to match his athletic ability unfortunately.
Joesph Lewis teammate is 2018 5 star Jalen Hall .
Think Cameron Rising might have some influence on Lewis?
They are a couple hours apart. Play in different counties but you never know. I think Lewis might not be sold on who will be USC or UCLA QB of the future as of now.
Awesome read, thanks for the new guys! I’m really hoping Ou can be a real player for Joseph Lewis because that guy is the definition of a stud! On a side note, did anyone happen to catch where Brittney Griner said that she would beat Demarcus Cousins 1 on 1? She’s delusional
When was the last time a 5 star WR ever worked out for Oklahoma? That’s right, never. But would love to see it happen.
Truth
Frankly too many 5 star guys don’t work out, and not just at OU. Not saying OU shouldn’t do their best to get him. It just seems like a lot of young guys get ruined between the ears by all the praise and stop putting in the work. Too many think they have already arrived the moment they get that 5 star classification. Entitlement is a disease that is very hard to cure: Metoyer, Bomar, etc.
Happily they aren’t all that way: Adrian Peterson, Tommie Harris
Here’s hoping Lewis can come to OU and shine like Peterson and Harris did while in Norman.
Metoyer – kicked off team for showing his d*ck too many times in public
Tennell – couldn’t catch a cold
Jarboe – kicked off right after arriving on campus for rap video
Gardner – elected to go to the draft before coming on campus
Green-Beckham – elected to go to the draft before coming eligible
In regards to the offensive line does it look like we are running more zone schemes rather than constantly either pulling the LT and LG and vise versa? We couldn’t seem to run the ball unless it was pulling a guard or someone else. Hopefully we have a greater number of run schemes this season. A greater variety for Mixon and Samaje? Yeah.
Football in a week! Cal V Hawaii. I mean, I guess that counts as football.
August 26th Tulsa Union @ Southlake Carroll.. I’m really wanting to go down and see this game! Sporting crimson and creme later in the year Jalen Reagor plays against Jordon Austin should be a good matchup to see..
You mean Tre Brown?
Two different games he’s talking about… TU (Brown) vs SLC (Barnes) and Waxahachie (Reagor) vs Lancaster (Austin/Manning)
Run on sentences will cause a war eventually lol but boomsoon fixed it
I know we have already discussed this somewhat but if you go look at Joshua Moore’s twitter, this kid is all about OU and a top 100 player in the class of 18′
Tell me more about Moore. Where, what, and who?
I’m all about OU guys becoming OU players!!!
He can catch a football.
Fear! and the Bazinga.
A wide receiver for the 18′ class and the #86 recruit for 247 sports from Texas who posted a photo of himself on an OU edit and said, “#aminext ?”
I would like more than once if possible.
I almost went back to one of these $$$ sites…Almost. I figured, why? This is the best site for recruiting reports, practice reports and so on…Any plans in the future for a message board? I know you get some smart Arses, but the crowd on this board would root out the bad ones immediately. Anyway, enough sucking up. Go Sooners! Go Islanders! Is it fall yet?
Go Sooners, Go Rangers, Boo Islanders.
it, a message board, has been discussed, but there are no immediate plans to go that direction.
Thanks for the feed back…
This is funny. You guys see this?
It’s like a beacon for those who may be lost and weary, a place of salvation and redemption.
I35 is the new Underground Railroad…helping the downtrodden escape from Texas…and Kansas, to the promised land.
That’s crazy
If you build it the recruits will come..
Scrimmage notes ?
If Jordan Smallwood plays 1/2 as well as his physique looks, the dude would be an absolute monster at the WR position.
Looks like he introduced Parrish Cobb to college football in this picture
Hopefully he does that to a lot of defensive backs this year.
Me likey
This play is in the highlights. Cobb just missed him, but the picture looks like he totally got trucked.
I saw the 4 there and had visions of Byrd whiffing.
Man, i know it was mentioned on here before but Abdul Adams is a lot bigger that i was thinking..
He is huge. No doubt. His hs strength coach needs a raise. Oh and good genetics don’t hurt. He’s a lot more stout than his running style would suggest.
yeah, exactly on the running style thing.. Was thinking more of a scat back type.
I assumed that was Bissoon in the pic. The images I had seen of Adams earlier made him look larger than this picture does.
I think you’re right. That’s Bissoon. Previous pictures show him being a giant though.
Yep, you are right !!
You can tell it’s Bissoon after you compare him to #23 Roy Finch in the same picture.
This is him.
I think this is Bissoon, but Adams caught one out the backfield and scored towards the end of the video. I think he’s 23 anyway…
Picture I posted is Adams. The other is Bissoon. And Cobb is in the gallery attempting to tackle Smallwood.
Oh thats the one..
That’s not Adams.
HA! Placebo effect is a monster. That is lil Najee Bissoon. All of 5’5″ and 165 pounds. That is the kid one of the posters was referring to as one of the players’ little brother a little while ago.
Are we still recruiting cb jaylon Johnson from Fresno?
I hope.. I see him being a safety, he is so physical with receivers
Yes but there’s only one DB spot left and they really want Okudah to fill it.
Me too??
WOW! Check out OU commit Trey Sermon’s play in a scrimmage vs. North Paulding http://www.maxpreps.com/video/watch.aspx?videoid=3f2edc13-6d79-4dd5-9d0f-69d01c105a4f
Dayum. Positively ‘Little’ Joe Washington-esque. Me Like.
Reminds me of Demarco Mixonstein.
Also measured at a little over 6′ 214lbs at the regional Nike Opening camp.
Been a while for me to do this,Metz out—————
Offended….football
Where you been bud.
Checking in here and there, hosting some family for the week but keeping tabs on whats going on.
Uh oh – KJ going “lurk” – cannot have this for extended periods. Hide in the bathroom with a laptop and send “burst messages” to make sure we know you’re around 🙂
KJ is always lurking. That’s how we get the insider tips.
Lurking “there” is good (we get info). Lurking here is bad because he can’t TELL us anything….
Need his info pipeline – just like the TFB info, I’m addicted.
In other words, he needs to earn the high esteem and privilege he has “here.” LOL!
Stop lurking “here”, KJ.
Uh oh – KJ going “lurk” – cannot have this for extended periods. Hide in the bathroom with a laptop and send “burst messages” to make sure we know you’re around 🙂
Jordan wanted some info from u on o line from the news post this morning, the whole Wrenn/Alvarez deal.
Oh ok I didnt see it.
I got your back bro, just email me info as u get it!
…
Jordan Thomas scrimmaged today. Highlights on SoonerSports.
Looked like a lot of plays from Smallwood in the highlights of scrimmage. I really hope that he can put a season together. His size and athleticism could be a nightmare if he can stay healthy, catch the ball, and do his job.
I really hope he can stay healthy. I really like him as a player. Maybe he’ll finally have that break out year.
The highlights are on soonersports.com?
Yes sir!!!
Smallwood and Mead both. Smallwood looks very physical whereas Mead looks like he doesn’t use his size and goes down too easily.
Mead is def more of a possession guy. Not going to get a ton of RAC yards, but its hard to stop him from catching it.
Expect a ton of stop routes to the outside with Mead.
Here’s a topic for discussion. (Leave politics out of it)
If public colleges/universities were made tuition free, how would that affect the scholarship rules the NCAA has set up to “even the playing field”?
It wouldn’t? They’d still make you have equal numbers most likely. I think non scholarship athletes actually count against the numbers now, but I’m not certain.
Oh and both candidates suck.
I think a roster can only have ?105? but if everyone is technically a “non-scholarship” athlete, that would essentially eliminate walk-on programs at big schools, no?
Oh I see what you mean. I was thinking in terms of title ix.
Yeah I have no idea how that would work. They would find a way I’m sure! No binding scholarship agreement would be bizarre too.
Which would bring up another issue of looking at open transfer rules.
Well luckily we aren’t a bunch of dirty socialists, so we don’t have to worry about it. It’s all about the almighty $$$.
lol
affect*
I see where you’re going with it: making scholarships obsolete would get rid of roster limits. That would be interesting.
I think roster limits could stay the same, but some schools would have over 100 “recruits” and a lot of schools would not have too many. I mean, how many schools have landed a damn good player because OU or Bama or whoever was maxed-out on scholarships?
I’ll say that is a very interesting concept. But Maverick poses a very interesting question below: since there is nothing in place that signifies an agreement, what’s to keep players from switching schools. That’s probably the only time to have a conference rule on transferring within same conference.
Plus, those big fellas have got to eat: that might be enough of a difference that will allow a “qualifier” to be placed on students who are affiliated with athletics.
What if the NCAA amended their transfer rules to include all roster players? Sit out competition for 1 season out of conference, 2 years within conference.
Yep. But two years is a long time to wait. So is a year. How about making it one year, in or out of conference?
Personally, I think all student-athletes should be eligible immediately at their new school, in conference or not. But, I see the perspective from coaches and teams. I think one year across the board would be a nice compromise.
I agree with you on immediate eligibility. That would create balance, equity, and parity: that would be good for college football.
That would be a disaster.
Which part?
Personally, I think all student-athletes should be eligible immediately at their new school, in conference or not. But, I see the perspective from coaches and teams. I think one year across the board would be a nice compromise.
I dont know, but i am sure that taxes would go up.
Taxes be so high, I’d have to give up my season tix
Follow-up question:
How could the NCAA make sure that private institutions stayed on a level playing field?
Create member by-laws that govern athletics, only.
More specifically, since private schools would still have to offer scholarships, would the NCAA just eliminate limits for them?
Kick Baylor out of the NCAA club.
Just as soon as I’m the NCAA President. 😉
Then you may not have a job in the near future as the Power 5 or 4 may put their own governing body in place and do away with the NCAA. That is why the NCAA isn’t so proactive on punishments and been laid back compared to years past. They realize they are on thin ice.
At least make them play games in prison uniforms…oh, wait, that would be too much like okie-lite or texsa – never mind.
Without shoes.
I’m not sure what you are considering limits. Even if tuition was free, there would still be books, room and board, stipends, etc. It would still be a numbers thing.
So, you’re saying that it could stay the same. Just eliminating tuition/fees from the scholarship verbiage. Interesting.
That’s what it looks like to me. I’m sure they would find a way to limit the number of scholarships. It would be interesting to have 145 or so scholarships to work with.
Thinking about it now, it seems more likely that the numbers would somehow work themselves out. We have trouble keeping 85 scholarship players now. Kids want to play and play early. At the least, it would make the kids think about their decision a little longer, perhaps.
Ban ESPN.
Care to elaborate?
I didn’t read the complete sentence. Somehow my eyes/brain jumped over “private institutions” and I read it as “How could the NCAA make sure….level playing field”. Ah, so eliminate ESPN and their $EC bias and it automatically levels playing field. File this under failed sarcasm. 🙂
Gotcha
I believe from what most people are pushing for is community colleges to befree. Not private institutions
Practice notes?
Patience grasshoppa. Let’s not be greedy entitled sumbitches. ?
It’s hard not to be when you are a Sooner.
nevermind
Looked like Smallwood had a couple nice plays in the scrimmage. One long run after a catch, after shedding a couple of tacklers. Man that guy looks the part. I hope he stays healthy and the light comes on for him this year.
As far as Lewis goes, if you’ve got a guy who’s that big, and moves like that, you do what you need to to get him. He did look like he’s playing in a lower class though. I just say that because against almost any team, he’s the biggest guy out there. That and the fields looked like a lot of the 2/3A fields I played on in my day. Anyone know what kind of competition he’s going against?

I noticed Lampkin standing in the background in his shorts and t-shirt talking with Bob during the scrimmage. I know that KJ said that he more than likely didn’t trust his knee yet, but it seems like it might be requiring some rest days, too.
High Five, Bake, High five!
I got you . . . .
Hadn’t seen this posted. Sorry if it has been…http://www.theplayerstribune.com/sterling-shepard-giants-rookie-dad-oklahoma/
Love this dude.
It has been but it’s good enough to post again.
Jones vs. Bradford on NFL network.
Rough outing for Landry
Typical good play, good, good, oh crap.
He’s got some of the best ball placement you’ll see sometimes. But he’s always made it hard for me to be a believer.
Winningest QB in OU history.
Probably lost the most games as well. Is he in the top 5 in winning %?
Of those playing at least 25 games, I suspect yes.
Nice caveat. Honestly most don’t get that many starts. Landry is Mr all everything in the record books until it comes to winning. I’m not trying to trash Landry. He’s just not that guy.
People trash LJ all the time. Sure, he panicked under pressure, but c’mon…

His receivers went through spells when they had a lot of drops. There wasn’t much he could do about that.
I have never really understood the cold shoulder for Landry. Guy has always been alright in my book. Glad he was a Sooner; appreciated and enjoyed his talent. Hope he finds good success in the NFL.
He also didn’t have as good of a RB as Bradford, White, or Heupel. So they had to rely on the pass more. That and Landry really didn’t have any major injuries. And Heupel only got a two year run of it.
I laugh every time I see this, hell of a guy though.

Of the twelve QBs starting 25 or more games he is eighth

Pretty good.

The top 5 have half as many losses as Landry combined. Top five are a combined 112-5-1
Leads in total yardage, I believe.
To be fair, two of the INTs I saw the WR (Coates) gave up on the route. I don’t know about the other two.
Receivers not helping him for sure. Pick 6’s are never good, the fade in the end zone probably should have been a little higher, especially on first and goal but it took an unlucky bounce. One looked like it fell short because he was hit, missed the fourth. He just has some terrible luck.
Joseph Lewis would be a super get, but he has a teammate, Jalen Hall who will be a JR that is also ranked very high as a WR, but in the 2018 class. Now, hopefully Hawkins High has a QB that can get them the ball. Wow!
ESPIN has him rated as their #4 player in their Top 300 list. Just putting this out there. Rival has him 100% to USC for whatever that worth.
247 Crystal Ball has him 91% to USC. There have not, however, been any predictions for him in the past several months.
SIAP A couple highlights from Smallwood. He looks damn good. I would love to see him blow up this season. He has all the physical tools you want in a WR.

This is good.
Good to my ears but wanna see it when the heat is on.
There are a lot of comments about how bright the new scoreboard testing is, being seen from many miles away.

Much more believable. I watched one which was a live camera view from the stadium looking OUt over the dorms. Very bright!
Oh, wait, yOU posted it earlier. LOL
I was about to say “duh”. Lol.
I crack myself up sometimes! Nothing like having a good laugh at yOUr own brilliance! 🙂
The TFB night crew rocks! We may not be the brightest but we deliver the good stuff. 🙂
