We have ascertained the Sooners were in fact given word of a commitment from a 2017 recruit. However, out of respect for the player — as is and will always be our policy — we are not able to divulge who that 2017 recruit is at this time.
We can tell you, though, according to what TFB was told an announcement could come as early as this evening. – (TFB)

I want to think it is a ILB recruit “IF” he committed to Kish. Anthony Hines or Jacob Phillips would be the top guys at ILB and with Draper either(or both) would make for a awesome class! Then again it could be another position and Kish is just reacting to the news so I am excited to see who it is !

If it’s Gumbs then here is his evaluation from the opening. Other than his skill set, he’s the son of a coach.
Evaluation Notes:
Addison Gumbs is one of the top pass rushers out West and is very explosive coming off the edge. He does have 7v7 experience and looked comfortable playing in space and dropping in to coverage. He has a long, athletic frame, runs well and flashes good closing speed.
Gumbs will need to add some size and strength but has a very nice upside to him. He could fit in any type of scheme as an outside linebacker/pass rusher and plays with a nice physical edge to him. He’s a naturally aggressive player, the son of a coach, and has a high understanding of how to play the game.
Gumbs be great, but Hines is no 1 ILB!
Gumbs would be a good add, although it has never been clear to me whether we will play him at OLB or DE. I think he can find success at either spot though. Would be really nice to get that kid on campus.
Like to see him at the Sam/Jack backer, not with his hand in the dirt.
If his coverage skills convert, would love to see him at the Sam. Long and rangy. Path to get on the field might be a little less dense at Jack though.

I only get to come to Norman for one game a year most years, but I would definitely seek out a TFB tailgate. Make it happen and I will be there.
I live in St Louis and watch every single game on TV (used to record them all on DVD for years) but have never seen a game in Norman :(. I used to travel and watch them play at Mizzou when they were in Big 12, and last year went to watch OU play Kansas. I will see them this year at Iowa State….I try to watch them their closest game to St. Louis each year. I envy all of you that get to watch them play in Norman….I am a HUGE OU fan for over 30 years.

Got to remember some of these kids they can take and mold them into other spots, Chaisson is listed a DE and in that same regard so is Gumbs, both can add weight and play the DE spot IMO. They will still look at Hines, Chaisson, Wilson, Graham, and Rogers oh and Phillips IMO the LB and DL are spots we can fill up on. I think we get a Lewis or Manning we take one more WR, Okudah only at DB, and One of the 3 lineman that was mentioned the other day. Otherwise I think we are done except LB and DL.
Also Thomas is already at 6’5 245 so it would not surprise me in the least to see him end up with his hand in the dirt playing at about 275

I can’t even watch CFD or championship drive or even college football live anymore. Harbaugh this, Saban that. Leonard fournette has already ran for more NFL yards than AD and blah blah.
They are the common theme along with Dalvin Cook.
I personally think Dalvin is more well rounded than LF7 at the moment.

Me too. Haven’t heard Hulk’s name at all this fall practice. And think a slightly slimmer version than his reported weight of 250 would make him a killer inside against the run and short middle of the field.
He’s at 240 now. Reported that he got up to almost 260 last year.
I think McGinnis was his recruit and thus his guy from the get go which gives good reason for Kish to be watching hiim carefuly and enjoy seeing him get better. I would live to see this guy become Lofton 2.0; it been a while since OU had a real thumper at linebacker.

I think we would take all 5 of Draper, Hines, Gumbs, Chaisson, Murray. They all have the right sizes for one of them to shift between I and OLB or OLB and DE.

Well, I feel like one of LBs, if we take 5, would at least be looked at as a hybrid-DE like player, which is why I look at the DEs and OLBs counting towards the same total number. Kind of like with CBs and S.

I love seeing the Aggies cry about recruits. 2 years ago I had 2 different A&M fans tell me they could take any recruit from OU they wanted now. I tried to tell them they were just the hot team at the moment and things would change. They insisted it was because things had changed forever since they were in the SEC now. If it really is Gumbs, it seems like they won’t land a single linebacker OU wants this year.

Probably depends on how everything shakes out. I think Hines ends up at OU it’s just a matter of time. Draper will stay solid. So we will have to hold off lots of teams for our recruits.
That’s the big downside to such a big, talented class this early. Winning will fix that though.

It;s addicting for sure! I am thinking this class could be filled before season ends. Hell we start 5-0 we have what on paper will be the 4 of our toughest games out of the way. Beat Houston, tOSU, TCU and Texas in the first 6 weeks of the season. Along with beating 3 Texas schools surely helps with guys like Wilson, Manning, and Okudah all could pull trigger and we done recruiting by Oct 9th.

Bowl records mean little or nothing to me when evaluating a class. Too many variables. Regular season accomplishments much more important, outside of bowls played for NC’s.
