Looking at Some of the Big Wide Recievers in this Class

In the coming week or so we’ll be evaluating some of the big 2014 wide receievers including:
Jeffery Mead – Oklahoma commit
Dorian Leonard – Texas commit
Dallis Todd – Oklahoma commit
Keenen Brown – Oklahoma State commit

How about Mark Andrews? WR all the way? We haven’t really used a te recently either out of scheme or lack of talent. Looks like he could win some deep ball battles and stretch the field and also block well under Norvelle
Mark Andrews? Wow. Kid’s a flat out ball player. First of all, he reminds me of a Chase Coffman who used to play for Mizzou. Chase was listed as a tight end when he played for the tigers, but I don’t think I ever saw him line up as a tight end. He was always flexed out in the slot. Oklahoma’s been up front with Mark in that they are recruiting him as a receiver, and just like you outlined, he’s going to be that red zone mismatch who’s going to keep defensive coordinators up at night. For his size, he’s got really good speed, and there aren’t many defensive backs who’ll be able to win a jump ball against him. I personally like the idea of having him outside as a receiver. If you get him and Mead on the field together with someone like a Michiah Quick or Adoree Jackson, that would give us that size/speed dynamic that I don’t think anyone in the country could match. Don’t sleep on Dannon Cavil either. Dannon’s a big bodied guy who’s also 6’5″. So the possibility of us having three 6’5″ plus receivers on the field at the same time in the near future is highly likely. Mark gives us an element that is rare in the sense that he’s way too big for corners and safeties, and way too fast for linebackers. If we’re smart about how we match him up against people, he’ll be scoring touchdowns by the bunches. To me, it makes no difference of whether we label him as a tight end or receiver. He most likely will be flexed out any way even if he was listed as a tight end. I think in the next couple of years either Grant or McNamara comes on. They’re both still pretty young, and we may end up getting the Sifrin kid and/or Goolsby at tight end in this recruiting class as well.
