Open Post | Monday, Apr. 25th (UPDATE 1:44 pm)

Isaiah Thomas: This past weekend 2017 DE/OLB and OU offer, Isaiah Thomas (Tulsa, OK), visited Missouri. TFB caught up with Thomas to see how the trip went, and it sounds like he enjoyed his time in Columbia. However, I still get the sense the in-state schools (OU & Ok State) are the programs to beat when it comes to Thomas’ recruitment.

The talented OK Preps prospect also added that he plans on visiting Alabama this coming weekend. The Crimson Tide’s success in signing Joshua Jacobs this past recruiting cycle has increased their interest in Tulsa area recruits. – (Super K)

Jacob Phillips: As we mentioned last week, the Sooners are expected to stop by and see 2017 LB Jacob Phillips (Nashville, TN) in the near future. Phillips let TFB know he has narrowed his list of schools down to a Top 5, but said he’s not quite ready to release said list yet. Phillips added that he plans on releasing it later this summer.

Phillips and his family visited OU during the spring practice period, and when asked if OU has a good chance of cracking that Top 5, Phillips replied “no doubt about it.” – (Super K)

Garrett Flanary: 2017 DT Garrett Flanary (Tulsa, OK) let TFB know that OU’s Calvin Thibodeaux stopped by to see him this past week. Flanary has been quietly picking up some FBS offers and is certainly an intriguing prospect on film.

He isn’t necessarily the longest defensive lineman you’ll ever see, but he’s sudden and uses his hands really well. Additionally, he can really roll his hips and generate force. Flanary told me he grew up an OU fan and also said Thibodeaux asked him to come out to the OU camp this summer, which Flanary said (for now) he’s planning to attend. – (Super K)

– Brock Martin: Coach Thibs also stopped by to see in-state 2017 DE/OLB prospect, Brock Martin (Oologah, OK). Martin already holds offers from Texas Tech and Baylor, and shared that OU is recruiting him a ‘Jack’ LB. At 6’3″ (flat-footed) 220 lbs, Martin certainly looks the part.

Martin recently returned from a trip to Lubbock where he was offered by the Red Raiders. And this coming weekend Martin says he plans on visiting both TCU (Saturday) and Baylor (Sunday). Martin also noted that he may visit OU on Friday before heading south. – (Super K)

  • Daryl says:

Martin looks like he stands up and doesn’t fire forward very well and he still is getting to ball quickly. If that can be coached up and developed he could be lethal.

  • Jax Watts says:

I like OU going after homegrown talent. I hope we land them all. Boomer!

  • Scott says:

Who here thinks Trey Sermon commits to OU this week?

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Idk about this week, but I think it’s definitely happening lol. We’ve discussed this before, we are both high on Trey and would love for him to commit sooner rather than later!

    • Stephen says:

Ehh, usually you see some rattling before the commitment and I haven’t seen much yet.

    • Super K says:

Trey is scheduled to announce in September. Haven’t heard anything about that changing my man.

    • CcrBoomer says:

I read somewhere OU lead for Trey and A.J. I would be very surprised and very happy if that is indeed true. Keeping my fingers crossed it is true

  • BigJoeBrown says:

    Dear Super K, thank you..

  • hOUligan says:

Someone had posted yesterday but Tre Brown placed 3rd at the Ill Speed finals ( 14.25 winning time 13.97) in Baltimore. Scores aren’t up yet but was looking at the regional results, again, and noted Robert Barnes had placed 2nd to Brown (14.43) Dallas w/ a 14.56. Jeffrey Okudah 6′ 2 190, posted a 15.20 in Dallas. Now I haven’t seen either in person but watching film, Barnes appears every bit as good. Barnes apparently is better w/ burst/change direction and this at 6’3 198. Barnes if finally starting to get the attention he deserves.

    • Sooner 4Ever says:

I think Barnes is s future superstar! I think he has the potential to be another Sean Taylor.

  • Thomas Lenard says:

Of the two videos, I was far more impressed with Brock Martin, I would say he is a homegrown you got to keep/get.

As far as Flanary’s video, I liked him more as a guard than DT, and he looked great on those kickoffs.

  • ouwooferman says:

    Nice read. Thanks Super K

  • Boom says:

Flanary, the more I watched, the more I noticed how quick his 1st step is. He’s 6’3 and says he’s around 260 so he would have to grow into the DT position. I’m curious if he plays any other sports? I’ve always been a fan of quick DTs if we are playing an attacking defense.

    • Matt says:

Joey Bosa was 6’3″ 260 coming out of HS. Maybe this kid grows into the next Joey Bosa….or maybe the next Matt Dimon….

    • Super K says:

Great first step indeed. But I believe his accurate measurement without shoes is closer to 6’1. That would be NG height at OU. The Sooners do have some shorter DEs/DTs but they’re apparently looking for them to be 6’3 type guys. But it’s better to build the relationship with in-state guys…see them in camp and recruit them either way.

      • Matt says:

Super K, I saw your comment about Okudah wanting to play CB in college. Are the Sooners recruiting him for that?

    • kokevo says:

If you pay attention when he is playing guard my stepbrother is #20 at RB a couple plays and stands 5’10” I have seen him next to flanary on multiple occasions if flanary is over 6′ I’ll be really surprised.

  • ALar03 says:

I like the way Martin plays and that was off an acl injury?? I’m sure the coaches are gonna wait to see how he plays this year and if he can play the full year before they offer but I would to see him in crimson and creme

  • Tony B says:

Martin is great at shedding blocks and using his hands. He never gives up on a play and is pretty aggressive. I could see him having a big year as a senior if he stays healthy. I hope OU stays on him. He could be a sleeper.

Well it looks like we might be offering Raegor and Rambo, so I guess all is fair…

      • Oscar says:

Kind of like the Saban process, offer 300 kids and which ever ones arrive at campus first get the scholies. 🙂

        • Unofficial Longhorn says:

I thought that was Harbaugh’s plan… Wait, you didn’t say “wait till they get there only to say nevermind.” That’s what Harbaugh does.

  • Daryl says:

Sterns will you come to Norman please. I love that dudes tape. WOW!!!

  • James says:

My nephew played on the same youth football team as Taquon Graham for several years and although my nephew moved to Deleware several years ago they have stayed in touch. My nephew tells me that he is leaning toward either TCU or Texas.

  • IslandersFan says:

In other news: After 23 long years, my Islanders made it out of the 1st round. Terrible owners, General Managers, Coaches and draft picks/trades that would make the L.A. Clippers look competent, this is why you follow your team threw thick and thin. Nothing, and I mean nothing can compare to the NHL Playoffs..and Overtime Playoff Hockey? Any Hockey fans out there? Tonight you have the Blues/Blackhawks in game 7…this will be a blood bath.

    • Clay Davis says:

I can think of some things that can compare to NHL playoffs. No offense.

          • JB says:

I’ve been to some nhl hockey games and I’ve been to some soccer matches. 2 good friends were scholarship soccer players and dragged me to their games.

The problem is, you can’t make me not see what I see on the ice/field…and it is DULL.

    • tfb_fortyseven says:

LET’S GO BLUES!!!!! F— YEAH BABY!!!! I know, i know … I should be more decent, but our backs are against the wall, and im hoping we give it our all. i wish i was going to the game. Nothing like screaming profanities at the hawks with a rowdy supporting cast of drunk blues fans. Btw, the lack of success in the postseason for the blues only exacerbates the same feelings for Stoops. What is up with these teams who play so well during the season, but then play like they dont belong in the post-season?? Also, its good to see the islanders move on … Gives us blue Blues fans hope.

    • Ed Cotter says:

      Love me some Islanders also.

    • Stephen Dale says:

Yes, but my favorite NHL team didn’t make the playoffs this season…too many key injuries and some major roster disappointments…………

    • rphokc says:

yup, posted about your isles last nite……….primarily ranger/stars fan but also like several others……….watching blues/hawks now while catching ducks/preds when possible…….blues all over hawks right now 2 zip

  • rphokc says:

nhl……hawks/blues……..whatta game and series………the best of the nhl and playoff hockey

    • tfb_fortyseven says:

Totally agree … first big series win I can remember since the Pronger/Hull/MacInnis days, if any. Winning a playoff game in United Center is one thing (first since 2002, I think), seeing the ‘hawks go down to the Blues is another, but winning a Game 7 vs them (9-1 in Game 7s) is friggin’ incredible!!! Now I gotta live up to my promise to my sons: Getting tickets for a game when the Stars come to town. I hope I can find tickets.

      • rphokc says:

I was for the hawks but still a great game, about as good as it gets……..have watched all the playoffs and think the blues have a strong shot at the cup …..am a stars fan, among other teams I like……….blues are a bad matchup for the stars, will present all kinds of problems…….stars still without seguin as far as I know which hurts…….hoping for a great series…being an old guy, I used to listen to the blues on kmox b/c it was the only nhl station that I could get in okc……really enjoyed the broadcasts with dan kelley, great hockey announcer
