Remake I presume. I recommend the original Magnificent Seven, which was based off of yet another classic called The Seven Samaria..
Probably time for a remake for both.

Anything by Kurosawa is great. The original ‘Seven Samurai’ is maybe the best black and white film ever made. His ‘Ran’, a remake of King Lear set in medieval Japan, is amazing, but at four hours is a commitment.
Will make a note about “Ran”, and save it for another rainy weekend.

The sunday night NHK ‘samurai dramas’ in Japan are not quite at that level, but close. BBC type production values and most of the plotting is simply lifted from history…so you get a good history lesson as well. Several have been running for decades. I tried to use them to practice Japanese…until I realized that they were speaking in medieval dialect and I was starting to sound like a foreigner…with a serious Elizabethan jones: ‘Prithee, canst thou inform one as to the day’s weather in prospect?’ Cracked up people at the office.
It’s a shame but there’s a lot better stuff coming from overseas than here in the States anymore- There’s quite a bit coming out of S Korea that’s worth a look as well.
This is why I have a full inventory of John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Sam Elliott, Kurt Douglas, and Tom Sellack westerns to revisit when the urge to ‘see the old west’ from time to time strikes…….
The difference is that the NHK things are historically accurate. So you’ve got the equivalent of ‘Roots’ going on weekly for 30 plus years.
4 hrs isn’t too bad when you consider the latest, a Film with a seven hr trailer- the entire film, when complete, will last 30 days, yes, THIRTY days. Sheesh…

Houston lost a lot of starters on D and now have an expectation of repeating what they did last year. If you stop the run from Baylor , they will lose. But Baylor is trash on defense and doesn’t do anything special on offense. Texas has a huge amount of pressure on their shoulders this year and everybody is hyping them up , also this team hasn’t proven they can win a tight game. OU , TCU , OK St are the best teams in this conference, the only team that will give OU a run for their money is TCU.
Houston is 1 play away from going down the toilet. Their QB goes down, it will be a long year for them. Sure, same could be said of us but we don’t run Baker near what Houston asks of it’s QB.
It MIGHT have come up about their tendencies and exactly how the little ol’ Sparties beat them last year!

I made a mistake last night as I watched ESPN college draft analysis. They took the top 5 per each position and had 40 seconds to discuss each player. After three position groups it became funny, never a mention about anyone outside of SEC players. I flipped to another station cause ESPN is such a joke. ESPN used to be the best but now it’s a shell of it’s former self.

The Student Senate was a joke when I went there in the seventies. Looks like it still is. Some of these whiny brats are in for a rough life. In the real world only the HR departments of big companies and the government care if someone offends you. One year I was at OU, Max Planck finished third for Student President. You know, the physicist that had been dead for more than thirty years. It shows you how seriously it was taken by large portion of the student body.
How many undergrads are on campus? ~25K? How many actually voted for these numb nuts? Maybe a thousand? It’s a joke. Everyone knows it except those that are in it.
It was mostly the fraternities and sororities that took it seriously. That and the occasional nerd who thought he should be king because he was smarter than everyone else even though he had the social skills of a dead frog.
You have to have some serious narcissistic tendencies to run for “Student Senate” on a college campus.

Pretty close. That is starting to get to the point a B12 school could leave and break even in spite of the GOR.
It is difficult to have a direct comparison. The B1G numbers are for all games. The Big XII numbers are just Tier 1 and Tier 2. The Big XII schools got $25 mil from the conference. The schools vary in their Tier 3 contracts but it adds $5 mil (I.E. Kansas) to $15 mil (Texas) per school. In all, there is a big difference, but it is closer to being under $10 mil per year than doubling up.
I just transferred last year’s Texas Tech game to a DVD before I cut the cable. I had forgotten how great the offense looked in that game, especially Perine and Mixon. This could be a great year.
They looked great but Tech’s D has a way of making everyone look great.
