Open Post | Monday, April 18th (UPDATE 4:58 pm)

Ceedee Lamb: 2017 WR and OU commit, Ceedee Lamb (Richmond, TX) was expected to visit LSU this past weekend. As many of you know Lamb is originally from Louisiana and grew up an LSU fan.

I spoke to Lamb yesterday who told me that a family member was ill and as a result he did not make the trip to LSU.

Lamb tweeted out the following yesterday…

https://twitter.com/_CeDariann/status/721754090774986752

This is the second or third time Lamb has intended to visit LSU but hasn’t and it feels like the longer it takes the better position OU is in. – (Super K)

Spring Visits | Addison Gumbs: The Oklahoma staff has begun their spring visit period. If you want to know how high a priority pass rushing specialist, Addision Gumbs (Heyward, CA) is, it appears the Sooners are visiting him on their first day out. Gumbs tells me that Mike Stoops will be out to see him today.

As we mentioned, Gumbs will be narrowing his list down very soon and has let us know that the Sooners are sitting in a good spot. We believe the Sooners can win Gumbs’ commitment. – (Super K)

Spring Visits | Kobe Boyce: I also spoke to Texas CB commit, Kobe Boyce (Lake Dallas, TX). Boyce has been in communication with Oklahoma for a while and has been told by the Sooners staff that they are waiting to see him in person before they offer him. Boyce said that Oklahoma is expected to visit him tomorrow. – (Super K)

Spring Visits | IMG: We are also expecting OU coaches to hit IMG in the coming week to see players like 2017 WR Jhamon Ausbon and 2018 OL Curtis Dunlap.

OU coaches take a visit to see James Robinson , he wants to be a Sooner.

I love all the skilled players in this class, Ready for some big fellas to come aboard!!

  • Chris White says:

Hope your family is okay Mr. Lamb!

  • Kelt817 says:

How are things going with DT recruiting? We are going to need to replace a lot soon and we didn’t get any DT’s last year. We need another Tommie Harris!

    • metzker says:

Yep ageed,we did get a bad Spanish speaking Dt last year!

    • Super K says:

It’s a little tricky right now because they offered Deiontae Watts but it doesn’t sound like there has been a ton of contact since then. They’re recruiting Deontre Thomas a little. Marvin Wilson is obviously a priority. I’m thinking they’re going to be looking for a couple 4is and one nose and we should seem some names emerge this spring.

      • hOUligan says:

Hoping to see more names emerge as the confidence level on Wilson and Rogers and Byers is low unless you’re hearing something different. I really like D. Thomas at 4i. Has enough size and is outstanding off the ball. To me, he’s a kid that would sell his soul and play hs heart out for OU, like Overton.

      • Randy says:

Seems and feels like this class could be 1 elite DL commit (signee) away from being a true top 3 class nationally..

        • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

That and I think it’s a matter of time before we land a 4⭐️ RB.

        • Birddawg says:

The way things stand right now with SoonerSquad17 being so damn awesome for us.
Just a matter of time when they will claim some other big time players..

      • Birddawg says:

I know its super early but Nelson Mbansor can improve his stock this coming season. He’s got more than a handful of offers now but that’s someone we may want to keep an eye on. Especially if we miss out on our top target.

watching sports blitz last nite and it got maybe 10 secs mention when they devote/waste several mins to predictions/percentages……

    • JBSooner says:

Mark Williams is one of the most outstanding coaches regardless of sport, and clearly #1 in gymnastics. I like what KJ Kindler is doing, but Coach Williams is in another stratosphere. Very proud to have him on our side!

      • Stephen Dale says:

some of the coaches who are not producing as effectively should be required to forfeit some of their salaries and the money given to the coaches who ARE producing titles….Stoops , Coale, and Hughes come to mind as those being overpaid .Wiliams, Kindler, & Gasso deserve raises……

  • Super K says:

Really do think that if they play this thing right the Sooners will land Gumbs.

    • metzker says:

Just wish Bob would have went with Mike.

      • Bob Edwards says:

Don’t you mean Bob would have gone instead of Mike.

        • metzker says:

          I stand corrected.

          • Bob Edwards says:

They just need to get a wireless headset that uses cellular technology and Bob can hand the headset to Gumbs and say “here talk to Mike.” That would be just like when he gets to campus.

          • metzker says:

            Lmao

          • Bob Edwards says:

Hey Mike being in the booth has done wonders for the D. Maybe it will help with recruiting too.

          • metzker says:

You are one sharp man Bob.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Watching him scream at Julian during that Baylor game was something else. I’m glad he’s up on the booth.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Saban screams as well. Get over it. The difference is Saban wins titles.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I’m all for coaches laying into a player and Julian probably deserved it that game, but it doesn’t change the fact it looks awful on national television to have players and coaches screaming at each other. Telling me to get over it? Maybe you should get over yourself and not act like you’re the only one who dealt with a coach that screamed.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I guess I am old school. Coaches scream and there is nothing wrong with it.When they touch players ala Woody Hayes and Bob Knight that’s when you draw a line. For what it’s worth, I have a clip where MS is going crazy on Monty and I think that’s more inappropriate than yelling at a player. I think Monty moved on due in part to MS. But again, he’s a coach.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

It’s not even about being “old school” it was the fact that tv caught the entire altercation between MS and Julian where both were screaming at one another. That’s the part that I didn’t like. Like I said, I’ve got no issue with coaches tearing a player a new one from time to time because it’s happened to all of us that played sports. I too cannot stand a person of authority screaming at someone below them. You’re probably right about Monty leaving. Btw I apologize for snapping at you.

          • Stephen Dale says:

            DHS……….think you are right….

          • Boom says:

Having better players & a QB sure didn’t hurt.

          • Rick says:

            I’m so confused…

      • Boom says:

Mike is a good recruiter and glad he’s going.

        • Jdizzle says:

          Especially since he got Kelly.

Agree on Lamb. No Lsu visit but a tweeted pic of him and Baker instead seems like a really good sign. I’m liking it. Thanks, K, for helping put out the current ‘de-commit’ fire.

  • Hamildude says:

    Did Bandy visit LSU?

    • Rick says:

I don’t know if he actually made it but was scheduled to attend the LSU spring game.

  • Fear The Magic says:

Thanks for the info on Lamb K. You didnt happen to ask him why he took down his OU banner on Twitter did you?

  • luvsoonersA53 says:

I have noticed some Sooners are questioning OU eval process on in state lineman. Question Given the history of the last few year’s being slow played and loosing such player’s to other school’s. What should Bob’s attitude or concerns be with in state kid’s recruitment? I would say Bob has definitely made some change’s with this SOONER17 class.

    • Drew says:

We also have the overall #2 2018 recruit in OT Brey Walker. So there’s that.

    • Bob Edwards says:

Are we losing them to other schools or did we just find players we wanted more? We can only take so many so we have to get the best ones available for our scheme. That means that we might not want the local guy. It doesn’t mean he isn’t a good player it just means we found someone we wanted more.

Some folks seem to think that OU owes an Oklahoma kid a scholly if he is a fairly good football player. That’s not the pathway to success.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Exactly. What ever happened to that QB David ? who went to Bama? We took Hansen who left because he couldn’t beat anyone out. I think OU is doing well in state. But clearly the national focus is a priority over texas-Okie

        • soonerbred4ever says:

Cornwell, he’s still at Bama riding the pine.

        • Bob Edwards says:

As soonerbred4ever said he is still at Bama. Heard his name mentioned today on local radio. He’s apparently 4th string. Looks like he got passed up by a freshman. Doesn’t sound like we missed much.

          • Nate Broadus says:

I seem to recall hearing that his (Cornwell) problems are due to lack of maturity. It sounds like he pissed his shot away last year and has now been recruited over.

Either way, you’re right: we didn’t miss out on anything.

          • Defend Colfax says:

Very telling that he never received that OU offer.

    • ccmosaic says:

We get most of the Oklahoma talent every year. I know some kids slip through the cracks and other teams pick them and surprise, they end up being awesome. It happens. I think this year Oklahoma has done all they need to do. If the evaluate a kid for the OL and they feel he is a take then good but, if not why risk the scholarship.

  • Fear The Magic says:

Gumbs, Kelly, Draper, Jackson ( maybe Hines ). I dont think we’d even have to play the games. The other teams would just forfeit in advance.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

    Thank you Super K

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Now just need to hear some good news on DT recruiting and I’ll be a happy camper.

  • Sooner 4Ever says:

Does Kobe Boyce fit the template we’re using to assess defensive back recruits?

Bandy, Barnes, Brown, Broiles… and Boyce. Yeah, I think maybe he does.

  • Jeff says:

How was Bandy visit to L$U go?

  • metzker says:

Look at Lambs twitter a very funny wide out slaps a dbs head off,i couldnt copy it!

  • Jack Durrett II says:

Have we gotten all we are to get on the performances in the spring game?

  • MrBigsby says:

I’d rather Lamb get the visit over with. If he’s gonna de-commit, I’d rather it be now. It’s a numbers game at WR and would allow us to get back on other guys that we had to back away from.

    • Ura Hogg says:

No, I tend to agree with Super K, “the longer it takes the better position OU is in.” Especially if he’s staying close with the other 2017 guys and getting more and more comfortable with the idea of joining them for a special team in Norman. Boomer!

      • SamSooner says:

Taking OU or any other university out of the equation, you have to love it for these kids. As a man of color, I like that these kids have such great opportunities at such a young age. I was never presented with this opportunity. Lamb has been very respectful. I’m happy he’s committed to OU. But I’m happier knowing that he will be able to graduate college without a hefty bill.

I’m an OU fan. I hope no one questions that. But I also root for people. Choices are good.

        • Ura Hogg says:

Agree that it’s great that these kids have a lot of options.
Just hoping that Lamb doesn’t decide to join the grass-eating Mad Hatter who’s somehow still running the show at LSU.

      • MrBigsby says:

        Hmmmmmm?

    • Jim Casy says:

      OMAR

  • luvsoonersA53 says:

You know I would have to give Bob his prop’s. There has alway’s been some kind of stigma attached to Bob about recruiting in state, some folk’s do think that it should be automatic just because they are in state. I feel Bob has sent a message to all in state atheletes, you better improve your game level to national level if you want to compete at OU it’s a standard

    • Bob Edwards says:

Back in the Switzer days, we had another 35 scholarships we could give out. In those days we could afford to take a risk on some local guys and hope they pan out. Nowadays with fewer scholarships there is not a lot of room for misses. That means fewer guys we can afford to take a chance on. If you want to be the best, you have to recruit the best and, unfortunately, that means sometimes we just can’t afford to take a shot on a local guy unless we are sure he has that #OUDNA.

      • Dick Bump says:

I agree. OU has passed on some great “legacy” kids, too, that they likely would have offered if there were a few more scholarships.

        • Bob Edwards says:

The NCAA says they are their to help the student athletes, but since I have been watching they have cut scholarship limits from 120 to 85. How many more players would have gotten a “free” education if they hadn’t done that? If they stopped paying coaches millions of dollars a year they could afford a few more scholarships.

          • Ura Hogg says:

Not only has reducing scholarship limits kept a lot of kids from getting a chance to get a university education, it has also decreased the depth on teams making it more likely that injured players are back on the field before they should be. The good ole NCAA…

      • Sooner Ray says:

True. Switzer has even said he would offer kids that were not top notch just so that other teams couldn’t get them…just in case they matured.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

    Super K is da man!

    Thanks!

  • Matt says:

Dj Johnson is only listed at 240 on the sites I’ve seen. He’s being recruited as a DT?

    • ALar03 says:

I think its similar spot to Charles Walker… got alot of room to put on weight wherever he goes

  • metzker says:

Thanks K for the news, yall have a nice day——-

  • Scott says:

Deonte Johnson is a star , we need this dude.

  • ALar03 says:

Suprised that eno Benjamin got outta the big 12.. I think he is a really good running back

  • Sooner Ray says:

The 4 star TE Riley visited today looks legit on film.

  • Defend Colfax says:

Hopefully Nelson Mbanasor shows out this fall and picks up some offers from the big boys. Been hearing good things and the kid just looks the part. PJs BIG little brother. ’17 DE
