As many of you are aware, this spring Hatari Byrd made the switch from safety to outside linebacker. However it appears OU fans will not get a chance to see how that transition works out as according to multiple sources, Byrd is no longer with the team.
We will not speculate as to the circumstances surrounding Byrd’s departure, but have been told the expectation at this time is that he will not return.

sr position switch is tough and he’s probably been recruited over……..came here with lot of hope
He was a Senior?! Gosh, how time flies. Good luck to him of course. Hope he’s not quitting football as well.
think you nailed it…..and if Byrd did feel the pressure from underclassmen, fine….it means the coaches are continuing to upgrade the talent level and we’ll have the enjoyment of watching whomever plays help the team………
Ridiculous, I didn’t think would wash out.
Would love to see the young man finish his degree and then transfer. Even if he doesn’t finish till next year, he’d still have a year of eligibility and could transfer anywhere.
Wow. Wonder if coaches were expecting this or not. Wish him well whatever the circumstances. Sure had high hopes for Hatari and want the best for him. Is Ijalana really gone, too, Super K?
Wow he was one of my favorites from that class wish him well!
Makes getting Sunderland and Haughton up to speed that much more urgent now.
Man I so wanted him to put it together and play. When dude got on people he could lay the wood, but just seemed to be out of position a lot of the time. Really hope he can make the most of whatever is next for him.
I honestly thought he was the next Cam Chancellor coming out of high school. Every year, I hoped he would be the guy I wanted him to be, but it just never really happened. Hope he lands on his feet and does good things.
That Fresno pipeline hasn’t paid off at all. Have to hope Kelly breaks the curse..
Do you count Jalen Saunders since he was at Fresno St?
Ha, yeah.. I guess ya have to.. technically..
Then there was one, Michah Quick.
If indeed this is true, good luck to Hatari in all his future endeavors.
Good luck Hatari, you lay the wood with the best of them!
If we were KU I would care, see ya best of luck next up!
You guys miss me don’t ya!
Good luck Hatari. I hope everything works out for you
I was such a fan of Byrd coming out of high school. He had the stature of a phenomenal player. Not sure why it didn’t quite transfer to the collegiate level, but that’s not the first time a kid hasn’t panned out, and it won’t be the last.
Best of luck to Hatari. I hope he completes college, and does great things in the future. He’ll always be a Sooner, and that’s an accomplishment in itself.
We tried to flip the Byrd
