    Good morning Sooners!

  • DR LEO MARVIN says:

Morning Sooner’s let the coach hunt begin.

  • Corey Muller says:

Boomer! Hope everyone has a good day!

  • J.r. Kamm says:

    Good morning, all!

  • Jake says:

I heard this guy is available (apparently has strong ties to the state of Texas as well):

  • Dick Bump says:

Am I the only one that doesn’t know who Steph is?

  • SamSooner says:

    Good morning, everyone!!!

  • Zack says:

Well I would be ok with CJ ah you. He’s familiar with the players and staff. Plus his recruiting could benefit from having a highly rated cousin in the 2017 class. Might help kick start some momentum even though his cousin is being recruited as a safety.

    • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Its his nephew is it not?

    • 47 Straight OU Know says:

And my three picks are former SOONERS!!

    • Golfluvr13 says:

I agree with you. I would not complain if OU hired him.

    • SamSooner says:

      Morning, Zack.

Who’s out there? The TFB Mods mentioned Leavitt last year. He is an aggressive/attack kind of coach. There is a connection with the Stoops brothers.

      • Zack says:

        What’s up Sam?
I’m not sure who’s out there really. If they’re going to make a splash I would be surprised with the oil boosters hanging on to their seats right now. And the word is boren and many of his personnel took pay cuts, not sure if true or how significant.
Plus I can’t see them finding a guy who’s a “co-DC” currently because I think cooks is going to be deserving of that title soon.
As much as I would like to see ah you, he just took that job so I’m not sure if stoops would ask him to vacate the position so soon.

    • PlayLikeaChampion says:

      FS Utah prospect is stout.

  • Kelly Gurbcock says:

I couldn’t get past the first 10 seconds of that Fuller House trailer, and it’s not because it sucked either. goodness gracious.

  • Clay Davis says:

I predict that Shep will have a better career than more than half of the top 5 of Mayock’s WR rankings, as long as he doesn’t succumb to injuries in the first couple of years.

    • Kelly Gurbcock says:

I hate to say this but Shep would THRIVE in the Patriots offense. But I prefer to have him in Green Bay with Rip. Go Pack!

      • Golfluvr13 says:

I like your thinking! Green Bay or KC.

      • SamSooner says:

        Morning, Kelly.
Shepard is going to be great. I don’t think the moment is ever to big for him. He always looks calm.

        • Kelly Gurbcock says:

morning Sam. ugh, I hate saying “morning” or “good morning” but I just did it, it’s my attempt to be civilized and my one good deed for the week.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Sorry Kelly, I’m a morning person. I guess it stems from being forced to milk cows at 430AM every day for years while growing up.

          • Kelly Gurbcock says:

lol. it’s all good Golf, I’m a morning person as well, I’m just not a morning people person. but I do appreciate when guys like you and sam say “good morning”. you guys should know by now I’m a crotchety young fart.

  • Slim Sooner says:

Good morning fellow Sooners! It’s a beautiful Oklahoma morn out here on the far western plains.

  • Birddawg says:

I Don’t know if this was said already.
Jackie Shipp is the new DLine coach at Mizzou.

    • Golfluvr13 says:

Jackie Shipp’s aunt was my 8th grade algebra teacher in Topeka, KS. I have always like Jackie, and I would not complain about him coming HOME!

    • J.r. Kamm says:

I’d look at his predecessor (Craig Kuligowski) who just joined the Miami staff.

    • SamSooner says:

      Birddawg, good morning!

I have a brother who’s nickname is “Bulldog.” He got that as a teenager and it stuck. They told him when he gets mad he looks like a bulldog.

      • Birddawg says:

        Good morning Sam
        Lol!
        My Nickname story:
My junior year in HS. Football was the sport. We brought a lot of defensive guys back. The team/coaches knew our offense was going to struggle after graduating so many the year before. It was the first game of the year. Both teams were having a defensive battle.Tied. Our offense just punted the ball with like 2-3 mins left. On their first play they broke a run on my side. 25-30 yards. Field goal distance. I was pissed…I’ve never been more mad.
        Coach calls timeout.
        “What the hell was that!”
“You owe me! We need that ball”
Next play, they ran the exact play to my side again. There was no way I was letting that sh** fly. I tackled, stripped, scooped, and scored.
Everyone just started calling me “Bird dog”.
and I don’t even think I ever stripped the ball again. lol

  • BoomerTooSooner says:

Regarding the DL position…I really like some of the suggestions and many make sense to me…some not so much.

For argument’s sake and if one prizes continuity…CJ makes a lot of sense, but with him recently gone are there any other guys currently on staff that could fill in here?

  • Dallas Johnson says:

why the hell are we having such a hard time hanging onto DL coaches??? losing 2 in 2 years.. is there something we are not hearing about?? I would like to think that being at OU would be a destination job.. With such a great coaching staff.. But there must be something we are not aware of.. What am I missing?

    • Golfluvr13 says:

I know that Diron left because he wanted to be back with his family. I figured when they did not move to OU with him that he was just here for a short period. Monty left because he and MS did not really get along (from what I have read). However, I agree with you. I think that one issue is Mike’s demeanor at times. I have worked for people who had anger issues, one of them threw a keyboard at the wall and missed my head by about 6 inches. I would much rather work for someone who does not fly off the handle all the time.

      • 47 Straight OU Know says:

I glad im not the only one who is suspecting M.S.

        • Golfluvr13 says:

I like Mike, don’t get me wrong. But the dude needs to relax some. Kids learn so much better when you keep an even keel rather than foaming at the mouth screaming. Heck I’ve had a couple of employees call my wife and have asked her to ask me to scream and yell at them because they find it creepy when I get mad that I just lower my voice and talk quieter to them. But they get the message loud and clear.

          • hemisooner says:

I think Monty wanted in the NFL and Diron wanted to be by his family. Can’t fault either. Just how it goes sometimes in coaching. Hopefully we don’t hire a Patton or Kittles. I’m sure with Mike on staff we won’t.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Well I know that Monty and Mike didn’t exactly see eye to eye, but I agree. I want to find someone that can teach kids and is a hard worker. He should also be able to recruit. UGH! I trust Bob, I think he will find a good DL coach.

          • hemisooner says:

I agree with everything you said. Which I think made Mike go to the booth. Tired of ripping the coaching staff and players on the field during a game.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Yep. I was watching some Sooner highlights from years past, and they showed one where Mike and BV got into it on the sideline. I did not remember that, but Mike has to chill out.

          • Dick Bump says:

I’m sure Bob has a short list of people he wants. OU has stability that few other top programs have. If your family is in a good spot, especially with kids in school, it’s hard to make a change.

          • Jim Casy says:

            $$$$$$$$

          • MoJoOkie says:

I’d guess that Bob has already fielded some calls from prospects.

          • Hotrod33 says:

You know he has already. I wouldn’t be surprised if he contacted some guys he had in mind to get a feel if they were interested.

          • hemisooner says:

I’m sure he has MoJo. I imagine the coach has a lot of connections and already has an idea who he wants as his next DLine coach

          • SamSooner says:

I think what we saw from Mike was stress. He understood the nature of the situation: immediate success or else. Some folks don’t handle that type of situation well. They flail their arms, scream and yell, to give them the sense that they are working hard.

One time, at work, billing system went down. I was making calls to every IT person I knew. My Director, at the time, stepped into my office. He asked what was going on. I replied, “I’m not sure but I’m trying to get answers.”

I was addressing the issue on the floor with the employees: “Here’s how we’re going to handle this, etc. etc.” I was as calm as I could be.

Once the issue was resolved, he called us all into his office and proceeded to tell us “how it pisses him off that we were acting like we didn’t care about the situation. You all were not moving fast enough or screaming at the IT people to get this resolved.”

No one said anything. They just took it. But I didn’t. I told him, “Just because I’m not screaming and yelling doesn’t mean I don’t care or that I’m not trying to resolve the issue.”

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Yep, I hear you. You can get a lot more done, quickly, with kind words than you can yelling. When I worked in IT and someone yelled at me, their problem went to the bottom of my pile!

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Customers who yell at me seem to have a higher bug rate in their code, versus the people who are nice to me. Just sayin…. 😉

          • Golfluvr13 says:

LOL! I hear you! There would always be something wrong with their SQL queries when I was working IT. It seemed that their results always had way more than what they were looking for.

          • Hotrod33 says:

I feel you Sam. I had a boss that was asking us to help get some stuff shipped out and he was yelling at us to help out and we had already plan on doing it and then he comes over to us still yelling and all I said in my calmest voice, “ok, lets do this we’re ready”, he looked at me and you could tell he wanted to scream again but I didn’t give him the chance as I was walking off with some of the packages to ship. He got the message.

          • SamSooner says:

Wow! I find it hard to work for people like that. I tell my leaders that I will manage them in a calm way because I want them to be calm when they are managing others.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

The best boss I ever worked for called me and another person in to a meeting. We were not agreeing, my boss and I, and she had the other person leave. She then told me to spill my guts what was bothering me. I went ballistic on her. I had my son’s birthday party planned that weekend and she wanted me to work and I had already told her about it. I went off for like 20 minutes. When I was done, she said, in the calmest voice ever, that I would not have to work that Saturday and she had forgotten. She apologized and said she would move the project to the following weekend. From then on I never had a problem talking to her, whenever I got upset about something I would go and talk to her. She took me to lunch all the time to discuss things going on at work. I still miss working for her, she was that awesome.

          • SamSooner says:

Great leader: she owned the situation.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

She taught me a lot about being a leader, not just a manager or boss.

          • Hotrod33 says:

I don’t work for him anymore. I have another job that is easier(sometimes) and the bosses we have are fantastic. Glad I got this other job. Just say I still hear about him from time to time still doing the same thing.

          • SamSooner says:

            Sad.

    • SamSooner says:

It’s interesting that you should ask that. I remember a few years ago there was this concern that no one wanted our coaches.

I personally think it’s a good thing. It’s good for our coaches to get these chances and it prevents the program from getting stagnant. You avoid “Academic Incest” so to speak, keep thing fresh with different perspective to get great results.

      • Dallas Johnson says:

I hear ya.. but Frustrating never the less.. Now.. we have to bring a new guy in and we all know this year we need to bring in some good DL recruits.. and whoever it will be will be playing from behind on the recruiting trail.. and I was hoping Diron being in his second year would hit his stride on DL recruiting..

        • SamSooner says:

You’re right. Can’t seem to get any traction. I agree, we need someone who can coach and recruit or we a need a great coach who recruits just want to play for.

        • Dick Bump says:

Me, too, but I can understand why he wants to do what he thinks is best for his family.

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

They should ask if they are prepared to move family down here. That would give you a clue if they planned on staying a little bit at least. LR moved his family here.

    • MoJoOkie says:

Might have something to do with a California job opening and the family living in California. When you don’t move the family, it’s probably short term.

      • Golfluvr13 says:

        Morning MoJo!

      • SamSooner says:

        Morning, MoJo!

        • MoJoOkie says:

Mornin’ Sam. Two days to Belize. Hope you all can hold it together without me.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Can I fit in one of your suitcases? I’ve always wanted to go to Belize!

          • MoJoOkie says:

I’d take ya if I could Golf. You’d be proud to know (even though I’m not a golfer) that my mode of transportation down there is a cart. Cup holder is a must.

          • Jim Casy says:

            Careful around that hole.

          • MoJoOkie says:

You talking the Blue Hole? If I’m too lazy to golf, you know I won’t be doing any scuba.

          • Jim Casy says:

Yeah. It’s creepy and mysterious looking. Sometimes I Google it just to look at it and wonder.
My dream is to go there and spend about a month. Fool with the blue hole, the beach, ruins, golf, fish, hike, etc., etc.

          • MoJoOkie says:

It’s a perfect place for all of that. The Blue Hole is about a 4 1/2 hour boat ride from shore. That’s a long day.

          • Jim Casy says:

It’s on my bucket list. It could be a two day boat ride and I’m down for it.

          • Rick says:

That is the primary mode of “social” travel where I live Mojo. All golf carts in my area are equipped with a drinks cooler, an “OU” sunshade and lawn chairs for going down to the beach in the evening to watch the sun go down and chat with friends. “Life is good!”

          • MoJoOkie says:

Good to hear Rick. Mellow is my middle name.

          • Rick says:

That’s funny…..so if mine! The wife wouldn’t allow “Mellow” on the captioning of the the golf cart though…she thought it somewhat presumptuous.

          • MoJoOkie says:

Mine allows me just about anything any more. But she’s seen me in the worst of times, and the best of times; lol.

          • Rick says:

I do hope you and the Mrs. have a wonderful time. I would ask you to think of your bros. during the trip, but the indigestion would cause a less than desireable effect on the fun, relaxation, romance etc and etc. Have lot’s of fun!

          • Boom says:

I travel with Koozie’s as you can’t have enough.

          • MoJoOkie says:

I collect them from everywhere I go. I tell the wife I have everyday koozies and dress koozies. She pretends to think I’m funny.

          • Boom says:

My friends come over and they go to my koozie drawer where I keep the cheap ones. My good ones I keep in a secret safe place as they seem to disappear. When I travel, I only take my OU koozies.

          • MoJoOkie says:

That’s funny, I’m the same way. Somebody comes over, I give them one and tell them not to forget where they got it. Not my dress koozies though.

          • Boom says:

Last story. My next door neighbor seems to forget to put the koozie up. When I go to his house, I always wear cargo shorts. When he goes to the restroom, I reach in his drawer & 75% of the koozies are mine. I fill my pockets up and the next day he says, where did all my koozies go? I just laugh and what makes it funny, he’s filthy rich and doesn’t want to buy any.
Josh wanted to get a TFB party for the spring game and I told him I would help. One thing I would buy for everyone is TFB approved koozies. I think it would be a great time. Who’s in?

          • MoJoOkie says:

            In

          • Golfluvr13 says:

            I’m in!

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I’ve seen a couple of golf courses in Belize, one was right on the ocean. That is a place I must visit before I die. I hope you enjoy your time down there.

          • MoJoOkie says:

Very calming atmosphere. But I’ve heard that golf will even ruin a perfectly good walk.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

A bad day of golf beats a good day in the office! 🙂

          • Jake says:

We won’t be able to now that you mentioned you’ll be in Belize! Ha. Have a great time, brother.

          • MoJoOkie says:

Thanks Jake. Love it down there. Very easy going.

          • Jake says:

            Great to hear

          • SamSooner says:

            I will. Trust me.

          • Jason Vos says:

If you see a midget in a cat mask when your over there, run the other way

          • MoJoOkie says:

That goes without saying Jason. Not just in Belize, but everywhere.

  • AltoidSooner says:

fwiw, Sterling Shepard is projected as 58th pick overall to the Kansas City Chiefs in Yahoo draft preview.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Whoever Bob hires will have to hit the ground running in recruiting.

  • SamSooner says:

    Bob, are you here today?

  • beavmiester says:

For anyone interested in real estate investing, the latest Bigger Pockets podcast featured Ryan Broyles talking about legacy wealth.

  • Jake says:

I love how Jerry Montgomery never changed his Twitter handle from “OU_CoachJerryM” (now a year later).

It’s almost like he told Coach Stoops, “I’m gonna go pad my resume for a year with GB, I’ll be back this time next year, big dawg”.

    #JustWaitOnIt
    #Boom#Boom#Boom

    • Sooner BornNBred says:

For as good as Monty was as a recruiter, you could tell Reynolds was a better coach. I am in no way trying to say Monty was a bad coach. But do we take Monty back if its an option or look for someone that can better coach the talent they bring in?

      • Jake says:

I’ll take elite recruiting with above-average coaching, versus semi-elite coaching with average recruiting.

Trust me, I was VERY happy from what I saw with Reynolds & I believe his recruiting would have picked up this year/going forward. This is a definite loss, but it is fun to think of a Jerry Montgomery reunion.

      • Dusty D Anderson says:

Calvin Thibodeaux? He almost got Bledsoe to stay in Kansas, plus he’s from the Houston area…ties to Texas would be big in recruiting. It doesn’t hurt that he’s a former Sooner.

        • Jake says:

I would have to think this is at least a definite option that’s worth exploring (for the reasons you mentioned). Makes sense in a lot of ways

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

Good thinking. I thought he might have got the job when they hired Monty.

        • Sooner BornNBred says:

Thibodeaux would be good. I also like the idea of going after C.J. Ah You. He would definitely help when going after those big, mean Polynesian dudes out on the west coast.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Kinda nice that Bobs been around long enough that his former players are starting to work their way up the ranks and learned from him well enough to be good to great coaches in their own right

          • Stephen Dale says:

only problem with CJ is he has never been a position coach or recruiter at the D-1 level yet……whether he could influence the Polynesians in Hawaii, California, Utah, etc to come to OU is a streeeeeeeeetch at best…Kasatati didn’t have any influence and he was a starter for 2 yrs…

      • J.r. Kamm says:

From what I remember when he left, he and Mike were not the best of buddies. Not sure that chemistry could be worked out.

    • JD says:

Does Monty have another twitter account..Im curious if this one isn’t locked into OUs system

  • John Garner says:

If Mayock were really good, he’d be working for some pro team. That Shep isn’t among his Top 5 WR’s reveals just how bad he is. I would bet next week’s paycheck that Shep is in the Patriot’s top 5. A lot of other teams as well.

  • Bob Edwards says:

You guys keep acting like I am the one hiring the new coach. I’m not.

  • James says:

Perhaps one silver lining in having a new coach is all the Dline guys will start “even”. I have nothing against Matt Dimon, the dude plays hard and is solid but I wonder if he should be in ahead of a few others namely Que. it sounds like Stoops gives his position coaches a lot of say in the depth chart of their own position group. Not pumping sunshine here, I would prefer Reynolds had stayed but maybe some good can come from this.

    • Jake says:

      Pump away ?

    • JD says:

They started Even last year yet Dimon still started at DE…He wasn’t even competing against Que

    • hemisooner says:

Overton and Dimon play different positions. Dimon over Walker is a legit question.

      • James says:

Yeah, I realize they play different positions but I’m pretty sure there was a game or two where Dimon slid inside at DT rather than going with the young fella. Maybe my example wasn’t the best but again, nothing against Dimon but IMHO there seems to be several more explosive/disruptive lineman options.

  • rphokc says:

perhaps tfb will have an op with coaches they think would be worth going after
