Jared Mayden: This past weekend’s big visitor, 2016 DB Jared Mayden, released his Top 2 yesterday which included Oklahoma and Alabama. Coaches from Bama are in Texas today to see Mayden, and the Sooners will see him at some point later in the week.

I did speak to Mayden last night, but to be honest he didn’t tip his hand either way. Mayden just talked about how he liked the visit and really loves that the Sooners have invested in new facilities but noted, “what really stands out to me is my longstanding relationship with coach Cooks…he’s been recruiting me since back when he was at Notre Dame.”

Before the trip, the Mayden’s told us that for Jared this would be an opportunity to really get all the information he needed and all his questions answered. I also spoke to a family member of Mayden’s who said, “the visit with Jared and Brandon (Bowen) was packed, and we barely had any time during it to level set, but both seemed pleased with the wealth of information from coach Bob Stoops and his position staff.”

Before the trip Mayden himself mentioned that he may silently commit before National Signing Day. We obviously do not know if that happened on this trip, but prior to the visit a family member mentioned that after they would spend some time thinking through things. We’ve checked with folks on both the OU and Bama side of things, and it sounds like both feel good about their visits. Although based on what we’ve been told, neither side is 100% confident in their chances at the moment. OU certainly has the advantage of distance and family connections, but Alabama was a school in Mayden’s Top 7 prior to his commitment last summer. And it’s Alabama, so it looks like we’ll just have to wait and see how things play out.  – (Brandon)

Zach Farrar: As you all know by now, OU offered 2016 Southlake Carrol High School wide receiver & Miss. St. commit Zach Farrar over the weekend. Farrar is a physical specimen, who we had a chance to see at The Opening in Dallas a while back. And not only is Farrar a big, fluid athlete, but he can absolutely move for a kid his size. He was a nightmare in the 1-on-1 situations at The Opening, bigger and faster than everyone they put in front of him. The Sooners have actually been courting Farrar for a while, so this offer even though very late isn’t exactly coming out of left field either. The concern with Farrar was always just the fact that he hasn’t been playing receiver for very long. He switched over to receiver, from QB, his junior year.

Farrar is also a great baseball player and it appears as though having a chance to play both sports at the next level is a big deal to him. I spoke with Farrar shortly after OU offered, and he brought up Cody Thomas and baseball, mentioning that every other offer he’d received was accompanied with the promise that baseball was also an option.

When speaking with Farrar, he did tell me that Mississippi State would be by on Monday to see him, and that Bob Stoops and other OU coaches would be by on Tuesday to do an in-home visit. Farrar told me that after both in-home visits, he will decide on whether or not he will take an official visit to Norman.

During our conversation, however, Farrar did refer to OU has his “dream school.” That and the fact that the Sooners already have one of his teammates committed (2017 DB Robert Barnes) should help the Sooners, but it does sound like they’ll need to get this baseball thing squared away. – (Brandon)

Chris Daniels: Just wanted to pass a long something Daniels’ father said to me in a text this past weekend…”I still feel they (OU) are the team to beat.” – (Brandon)

Michael Onwenu: Michigan OL commit, Michael Onwenu (Detroit, MI) told me last night that he plans on visiting Oklahoma this weekend. I checked with a source and was told the visit has not been finalized yet, so we’re planning to check back in later this week to see if this visit will in fact happen. – (Brandon)

– UPDATE (11:40 am): Busy day for Stoops.

– UPDATE (11:45 am):

– UPDATE (12:07 pm): 2016 K/P prospect, Braxton Pickard.

– UPDATE (12:27 pm):

UPDATE (1:17 pm): Just off the phone with Joshua Jacobs’ father. He said Riley and Boulware stopped by this morning and talked to him and Josh. He said that visit was followed shortly thereafter by a visit from HC Stoops who told them that they are looking for explosive guys that fit into Lincoln Riley’s offense and they feel Josh is one of those guys. Said they want to use him in the slot and out of the backfield…basically just find ways to get the ball in his hands on offense. Jacobs father said that they were told if Joshua takes a visit to OU then an offer will be extended upon arrival. Jacobs father said they are going to see if it’s possible to set up a mid-week visit.

The Jacobs are being bombarded with a lot of interest right now. Missouri is bringing their offensive staff to see him tomorrow for the 3rd time and offer is expected. Also Jacobs mentioned that Ohio State called this morning and requested Joshua’s transcript. – (Super K)

No need to criticize him. It’s a big decision for him at this point in his life. I think he realizes how much OU has to offer. Hope so. He’s a great prospect.

Good post Johnny. I can tell you the parents of the kids read this site and twitter and it’s tough to not be effected by negativity from fans.

K – Great having you post/respond over here. Also appreciate the Daniels’ transparency with y’all. Recruiting is an emotional journey as it affects a young man’s future. I think greatly of Chris as a football player and as a young man. I’ve followed him closely because he seemed like the type of guy you want at OU…fits in personality-wise with guys like Baker Mayfield and Chanse Sylvie. Guys that seem to be more than just football.

yeah i mean were all adults here if a kid doesnt wanna come then wish him best and move on to the next one. it sucks cause you think well heck is ou not good enough but every school that didnt get picked is feeling the same way no on recruit makes or breaks a school

      • soonerinks says:

It is a personal decision for these young men and I will never criticize them for their decision. Disappointed if it doesnt go our way but it is solely their decision and we don’t have a vote in the matter.

      • OU23 says:

I do not agree with negativity directed at the players who flip. These committments are not binding until they sign – that’s the rules. All of the negative “character” comments directed at players is misplaced. It’s up to our coaches to recruit high-level talent right up to NSD; if they miss out, they get paid high dollars to close on other players. Looking forward to a strong close.

Anyone with kids can understand that you can only support them, but ultimately the choices are theirs. If he goes to UT, best wishes to him (save for RRR). There’s actually lots of positive tweets from OU fans reflecting this on his dad’s page and I can tell he want’s to go to OU..

  • Furr-Sure says:

Big props to Cooks for recruiting Mayden until the very end. Glad he’s now seriously considering OU

Any word on Brandon Bowen’s visit?

Thanks for everything y’all do, TFB!

  • Tipman says:

Would we take 2, 3 or 4 between tupai, jackson, bowen and kelly?

  • Zack says:

I actually feel more confident in ou landing Daniels than mayden. But I think both are likely to end up at ou.

I’ve got Daniels, mayden, Moore, Kelly, Jackson and a okpreps. Not sure about farrar yet. And I don’t know if we lose Cobb yet, I’ll have to look at who Texas is recruiting at corner to see if he’s their top guy.

Getting a player at Maydens caliber to choose over CFB’s powerhouse program would be amazing get. Cooks has strung up together 2 quality classes already with possibility adding mayden.. and has 2017 already rolling with Barnes.
    Cooks = Relentless.

    • Super K says:

Cooks is on another level. I didn’t think he could put together a class like he has this quickly in his time at OU. He’s the real deal as a recruiter.

      • rphokc says:

my amateur opinion……..secondary seemed much improved since he came, also………yes/no?

      • wolfbuilder says:

Wis we could have had him with monty, not to say Diron couldn’t end up with a huge get or 2 down the stretch, but we all know good monty was getting kids in

        • TSFFKAG says:

The trade off is that if a recruit chooses OU, Coach Reynolds can better prepare them for the NFL techniques, culture and workout ethic/routine.

          • wolfbuilder says:

Not to say ur not right, or that he isn’t better, but I’m sorry tapper wasn’t any better with Diron then monty, and I’m not trying to start a fight, outside of striker and bond getting pressure we didn’t have that much, and to tell u the truth I don’t care how good of a pro they can or will be, I want great college kids, just cause ur a good pro doesn’t mean ur one of the best in college, look at all the greats we had in the 2000, mostly really good college players not a lot of great pris

          • TSFFKAG says:

I agree with you. Maybe we can see the best of both worlds next season; e.g., Lampkin – a Montgomery-class recruit with Reynolds-class coaching. (I’m shooting from the hip, here)

        • SoonerSpock says:

We didn’t have Monty long and Reynolds has only been her for one football season but from my perspective it appears that Monty may have been the better recruiter and Reynolds the better coach as I felt the DL was fundamentally much better this year. Of course, it is really too early to make a final determination on either Reynolds’ coaching or recruiting.

      • Kody K. says:

Indeed! He is turning the secondary from a weakness into a strength with his coaching and recruiting. Way to go Coach Cooks!

      • soonerthunder says:

Stoops said last year that his DB class was the best ever for him. I think this year, if we get Mayden, may be as good.

      • K, any chance OU looks at a JC QB for next year? I noticed there are 2-3 out there that may fit well with OU’s offense.

      • Scott says:

Don’t forget about that dawg Chip Viney.

      • Jake says:

You’re the real deal as a TFB Mod.

  • SoonerNutt says:

If we land Chris Daniels, it would change how I feel about the class significantly. I feel we are getting quality players with the commitments we are getting, but balance is an issue, and there is no excuse for a school like OU not to be able to sign a 1 or 2 high-quality DTs every year. It’s one of those positions that sets apart the haves and have-nots in college football. Anybody can get quality skill players, but 300 lb. guys with strength and quickness just don’t grow on trees. OU is a school that should be in better position to get those guys than most others. I know we overloaded last year, but I’d just like to see more balance in our recruiting year over year at all positions.

    • soonerthunder says:

yes, I think you are right. the skilled OL/DL are the biggest most important gets, other than QB, usually. There are lots of skill guys, but what makes the difference between the USC, OSU, bama, OU, etc, are the trenches. It does appear to me that we have done well the past couple of years, regardless of whether daniels comes or not

      • TSFFKAG says:

Yes, the onus/pressure is on Reynolds and Bedenbaugh to get us up to “winning the trenches” level.

    • Atkinson says:

I agree with the DT situation. I miss having the guys like Harris and Dvorcheck (I probably butchered his name), but you get the idea. Defense wins championships and I’m glad to see the defense coming back to Bob’s previous years when you had guys like Everage, Lehman, Calmus, Straight, Williams, Cody, and the list goes on. #Boom

  • Sooner Scoop says:

Stoops going personally to seal the deal on Jacobs.

  • Indy_sooner says:

Question: Who pays for official visits? OU or the kids parents?

    • JR says:

      The University

    • Bob Edwards says:

The school at least pays or airfare, food and lodging. If you go to Ole Miss you also get hookers and booze, or so it has been reported.

      • kt-raida says:

        lol

      • cush creekmont says:

Bob, Can WE get an OV to Miss? I know we are not top prospects, but we are talking Ole Miss brains here in the recruiting end – I’m thinking we sell ourselves as AAU development coaches for some made up player that we insert into the ESPN, Rivals, etc. data banks (4.1 40, 260, 6-6, etc).

      • Mike Reed says:

If any posters on here have a son, nephew, cousin, etc. that is being recruited to Ole Miss, please schedule an OV, wire him up and get Ole Miss on tape in their dirty deeds. There is no way that school just out of the blue started pulling in 5* talent and top recruiting classes. I smell a rat….

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

So, has Pete Hughes gotten involved with Farrar yet & what are his projections as a baseball player?

  • MrBigsby says:

Sounds like the Daniels’ family is just telling their audience what they want to hear. If OU was still in the picture, there was no need to de-commit. He gone!

  • Oscar says:

Any information on Marques Bolden? We were listed a a long shot with Kentucky or Duke as the leaders.

  • OceanDescender says:

Is deshawn lookout still joining OU’s football team as a receiver? I don’t think he’d take up a scholarship since he’s a baseball recruit which would be advantageous. I also don’t know if he’s a game changer or not either, I just remember him committing to play both baseball and football for OU waaaaaaay back.

    • Jeremy Phillips says:

I thought he was a ’17 guy.. & if you play football, you’re a football scholarship guy.. It’s some sort of NCAA rule..

      • BoomerDave says:

Not true. The rule is that you must participate in the sport that is offering you a scholarship first. So in this case, Lookout must compete in baseball his FR season, then could come out for football in the fall of his SOPH season.

        • Jeremy Phillips says:

Then i stand corrected.. Hypothetical.. What if he comes in midyear, early enrollee.. Can he play baseball that 1st semester & then play football the following fall??

          • BoomerDave says:

Yes, but don’t know if he would be willing to give up his SR at Westmoore to just sit the bench for Sooner Baseball. Can’t see him contributing without going through fall baseball with Coach Hughes. You seem to know quite a bit about the kid. Is Lookout even that good of a WR prospect? Good enough to contribute?

          • Jeremy Phillips says:

I really don’t know a whole lot… Just from my own eyes, seeing some film.. I thought he would be more of a baseball guy, i think he’s a little more known in that realm..

The Farrar WR looks to me like the kind of WR I was hoping for in Wims. I want a tall, big, fast WR, and Farrar looks the part

  • TSFFKAG says:

We have excellent position coaches and that necessary “fire in the belly” of every position coach; all we need is the current recruiting targets to see that if they all jointly commit to OU, there will be multiple years in a row to make NC runs. Isn’t this what social media is all about?

  • Kelly Gurbcock says:

Who’s the best recruiter in the Big 12? possibly Cooks?

    • Furr-Sure says:

Either him or Cale Gundy would get my vote

    • TSFFKAG says:

Maybe Charlie Strong. He’s selling a lot of nothingness, many are buying it, and according to the bookies, he may not even be around as long as the recruits.

      • Kelly Gurbcock says:

it’ll be funny when that midget gets canned.

      • Rick says:

I tend to agree. He seems to be a capable recruiter, I don’t care for his tactics, and would prefer that all coaches had the integrity the OU coaches show, but that’s just not the way the world wants to work any more. He does seem to be making it happen.

        • TSFFKAG says:

Making promises you know you can’t truly keep is risky business.

          • Rick says:

The most important question any recruit or their parents could ask of Strong is, are you 100% sure you will still be around next year at the end of the season if you have another 5-7 or 6-6 season. (Personally, I think he will be fired after the 5th or 6th game if they lose more than a couple of those early games).

          • JD says:

Remember how they landed Lampkin..his position coach straight up told him he would be there then bolted before the ink dried

  • TSFFKAG says:

It might be more difficult to keep Caleb Kelly than to get Caleb Kelly. LBs come to OU, get their NFL training, then leave early for the draft.

  • Mustvid says:

I saw Trinity play Southlake last year. Out of the four kids OU is recruiting (Daniels, Farrar, Barnes and the Southlake DB) I thought Zach Farrar was the most impressive. In that game he played mostly RB, which is odd because he is 6-4 and looks like a WR. However, he has good hands and is fast and powerful. He was very effective as anRB and WR in that game and made some big plays late. I hope he picks OU along with the other three.

    • TSFFKAG says:

It sounds like he’s built like the fella’s in the LSU and Alabama backfields last Fall. Is that overstating it?

    • ALar03 says:

they do have a running back that is 6-4 being recruited by texas that may be who your thinking about.. Lil jordan humphrey is his name but I saw Farrar play against Union this year and I was extremely impressed with him cuz he ended up being the difference in that game as he beat imo a future sooner in Tre Brown multiple times! I have been hoping for this for awhile and hope they close on him

      • Mustvid says:

You’re right. I did confuse the two. Farrar tore up the Trinity secondary in the second half and made some tough catches. He was impressive.

        • ALar03 says:

Yea I was looking for that game on Youtube but never found it.. I love watching those good high school games of possible recruits in the offseason

          • Mustvid says:

Southlake made a great comeback in the second half. But they couldn’t stop the Trinity QB. But, he got hurt early in the 3rd and left until late in the fourth with the game close. Just wasn’t impressed with what I saw out of Daniels. In fact, the kid he rotates with was more impressive just not nearly as big.

  • TSFFKAG says:

In regard to Daniels’ recruitment, does anybody know the typical process after a HC is replaced? Does the incoming HC replace anyone he wants as he brings in is own people?

    • soonerthunder says:

they are not tinking about that. They will get better coaches IMO if strong, etc are released, so they can look at it as a positive: if strong stays, it means we are doing well; if he leaves, ut will get saban or the likes. We look at it from OU/crimson glasses; they aren’t

This is why people shouldn’t get caught up in stars. Offers matter. If you have sec offers you get invited to camps. If you have osu, tech and kstate offers, probably not going to a camp.

  • Slim Sooner says:

B-Pick. I like that nickname. Love Seibert who was definitely excellent for us this season and is the man for the future, but we don’t want to wear out his leg! Good idea to get another young kick man in the fold, right? Remember when we used to be over-signed in this department. Boom alert: it’s my nap time.

  • TSFFKAG says:

Can some one call Michael Onwenu in the next few minutes and tell him we all want to know when he will commit to OU?

  • Furr-Sure says:

OU basketball remains #1 in AP poll. BOOMER!

  • TSFFKAG says:

Will those new recruits, who are expected to contribute immediately, be ready for Houston, Ohio State, TCU, and UT? Is it even possible?

  • Scott says:

I saw a picture of Nick Saban dabbing with a recruit , so I’ve came to the conclusion that in recruiting anything is possible now.

  • Lincoln Hawk says:

Nice update on Jacobs K, why would Stoops not just offer today while he was there? Is it just to get him on campus and fall in love with it? Also, Urban better keep his grubby little hands off of our OKPreps! LOL

    • Jake says:

Seriously. Urban is allowed to come to Oklahoma 1 time…This fall for the Ohio State beat down. AKA, launch-party for Baker’s 2016 Heisman Campaign.

  • Jake says:

Want to know how the OU Coaches feel about the Velus Jones situation?
    (See Zach Farrar offer).

    • SoonerGoneEast says:

Velus Jones? I thought it was Levus Jones.

    • Rick says:

Seems to be a late bloomer, but OMG, what a bloomer, playing for SLC and 1100+ yds and 19 TDs in his Senior year. Probably better than the high 3* rating he’s getting.

      • Jake says:

No doubt about it. Love the size/athleticism.

        • Rick says:

I’ve read some of the guys disappointed in the “length” of the WR’s we are currently recruiting, but the long guys creates such a miss match at times, it’s obvious, if you’re long, fast and strong, the one on one balls are going to go your way.

          • Jake says:

For sure. Shep is the exception to the rule. But I want guys that have the right mentality, like Sterling. If you’ve got a frame but lack the killer, I’m-gonna-dominate-you mentality, I’ll pass.

          • Rick says:

I’m all in for a smaller dude like DeDe or Saunders from a couple years ago. I think Saunders was stronger than DeDe, so he may have been a little more effective, but there is definately a role for the smaller WR, but the bigger guys, make the jump balls and blocking schemes harder for the D.

          • Jake says:

100% with you. Need a complement of both kinds to get the most out of the scheme.

        • TSFFKAG says:

He could jump to become the number one receiving target, replacing Shep right away.

    • Steve says:

which is why we never offered Farrar until after Jones flipped on us…..

      • Jake says:

I hear ya. But they’ve been recruiting Farrar non-stop, just hadn’t offered yet. Had other WRs just above him on the recruiting board, and he is still pretty raw at WR (due to his position change).

      • cush creekmont says:

It still looks like the coaches were ALL IN on guys that might help this year while BM is here. Jones was closer to ready this year, but Farrar down-the-line may be much better.

      • soonerthunder says:

Gary Gibbs said something everyone needs to remember. He said, “Recruiting is not an exact science.” Never forgot that wise, true statement. Doesn’t mean that Farrar isn’t better or won’t be. Pretty close looking to me

Kongbo going to end up at bama or FSU?

    • metzker says:

What is the word on Kongbo?

      • Kelly Gurbcock says:

I see most predictions to Bama, but I really don’t know. Seems like we got knocked out of the competition for him rather quickly.

        • metzker says:

Maybe the coaches still believe in Daniels?

          • Kelly Gurbcock says:

Yea, but I also heard we feel good with our positions with Kelly and Jackson but some seem to think Jackson is all in with UTerus’.

          • Brien Brown says:

That’s because that was his last official visit if I recall, I think we get him on campus this weekend right before signing day we clutch him.

          • Rick says:

            I wouldn’t say I’m 100%, but I still do.

          • metzker says:

At this point im shaky on all of em very puzzling to me.

          • Rick says:

Metzker, I broke my own rule this year, and got tied up in the day to day changes these kids make. Pretty stupid on my part. They change their minds, and sometimes for the most stupid of reasons. I remember a recruit a couple of years ago, say he chose Oregon, because of the unis. He could see himself wearing the bling. Coaches, tradition, exposure sure, but unis, never!!! I am confident, though we will have another awesome class, it is already. As far as we are concerned, I’m always wanting the rich (OU) to get richer.

          • metzker says:

Yes this class will be good,as Bob says we get the players we want.

  • Framoka says:

I’d say Jacobs is breaking in a big way with some thanks to TFB!

  • Scott says:

FINALLY we offered Dylan Moses , go get this man Bob Stoops.

  • Doobie74OU says:

Well hopefully it doesn’t matter that OU is starting to recruit Jacobs late in the process because everybody seems late to the party with this kid. Hope they are able to take that trip to OU!

  • Birddawg says:

This is why I dont buy the argument that leaving this conference would hurt recruiting texsa. We recruited texsa much better when we were in Big 8, and NOT in same conference with 4 texass schools. It appears being in the same conference WITH all the texass schools is whats hurting our recruiting down there. If we play in Texass all the time anyway, those kids might as well stay closer to home, and go to the texass schools.

    • OUn8v says:

Some fans were recently complaining that OUr coaches weren’t recruiting nationally enough and were focusing too much on tejas. Some fans can’t ever be pleased.

current top 300 commits as of right now. per rivals

          • Kelly Gurbcock says:

and, btw, clemson is going to be in the playoff picture for a long time. and if Les can’t win with all that talent he needs to scoot on down the road. you total the top 300 guys committed to all big 12 schools it still doesn’t pass the number Clemson and LSU are pulling in.

So this latest little “tidbit” originates from THE BAYLOR cover guy who was told this by the young man. Except for the very rare kid with an ironic sense of humor, won’t most kids give the guy asking at least something they want to hear?
    8.5 days…tick…tick…

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

I find it funny when a player that’s committed narrows down schools. These kids have no idea what being committed means. Either commit and mean it or don’t commit. This guy is committed to OU but it’s down to OU and Baylor. Smh

    • BigJoeBrown says:

But you have to remember they are in high school you may be committed to your girl, but……

      • Lane Gilstrap says:

No, if you are choosing then don’t be committed. That’s the whole purpose of the commitment. Its like having an appointment and having to wait, or getting married but telling your wife you would like an open marriage. You get what I’m saying.

        • Jpsooner23 says:

You’re right, it’s just like the marriage thing, only the consequences are much different. That’s the difference here. What benefit they get from all the attention far outweighs anything bad that can come from it in their minds.

        • BigJoeBrown says:

I didn’t get married when I was 18. When I was 18 I had multiple girlfriends, not at once. But you play the field. ?

          • Lane Gilstrap says:

So would it be fair to say BigJoe that you weren’t “committed” to any of those girls.

      • TSFFKAG says:

        That’s kinda the point.

      • Maranatha846 says:

And your girl will drop your butt as soon as she knows your looking.

    Fun fill in the blank….
For the average 17-18 year old athlete, the word COMMITTED means ____________?

      Nothing?

      Nothing.

    • Sooner Ray says:

      Leaning.

    • soonerinks says:

Please hold a spot for me while I look around for a prettier girl.

    • Brien Brown says:

Uh what’s a commitment, sounds hard!

    • Doobie74OU says:

It means they want to go to your school at that time! Things are just as fluid for recruits as they are for teams. If you don’t have an offer from your favorite school and you commit elsewhere then get said offer. The kid is not as much changing his mind as he is exploring new options! Most fans are pretty jaded about these circumstances but nobody cares Kendall was committed elsewhere and changed to OU and are hoping that Mayden chooses OU even though formerly committed to Oregan. Hoping that we close on Bowen even though committed to Baylor. Want Fowler to flip from LSU
We all just want everybody to play for OU!

      • Brien Brown says:

Do we get mad at a kid for wanting to change his mind if he see a program isn’t heading where said school says it is, or if a coach leaves because the kid wanted to play for that coach regardless of what the school name is. There is different situations that come in to play for all these kids. I agree we want all kids to be all OU, but that’s not likely as well everyone has favorites. We need to stop acting like these kids are dumb or have no clue cause a good majority do and like most of us if put in the spot light we would eat it up. It’s a do as we say not as we would do type deal.

        • Lane Gilstrap says:

Um we had a kid commit then decommit the next day. Nothing changed here in less than 24 hours.

        • Maranatha846 says:

There definetely needs to be a rule that says if the coach that a kid put his trust in turns right around and goes to another school, that kid can transfer with no restrictions. Don’t they have a rule similar to that in basketball?

      • j l says:

Not trying to nitpick here, but we didnt even offer kendall until after he had decommitted from tennessee, there was a 15 day gap there.

      • Maranatha846 says:

All I would ask, if I could, would be if a recruit has verbally committed to a school and has announced that he has, that he would verbally decommit and announce that he has, if he wants to look around. I know that’s not going to happen because the word “commited” no longer means what it means.

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

I’m just curious when a commitment all the sudden changed and really wasn’t a commitment after all. When did that change?

      • j l says:

When social media started getting involved, turning recruiting into a spectacle.

      • ccmosaic says:

They will have to go with an early signing period. If kid signs he is good if not then he is not a commitment yet.

      • soonerthunder says:

It hasn’t. It’s just changed that we have social media. I’ll guarantee you that some very big ones “committed” to OU or elsewhere “changed” all of a sudden 40 years ago. If I’m not mistaken Earl Campbell was going to OU right up to the end and then signed with UT wearing an OU t-shirt. the only thing that has changed is we know more about the flips IMO

  • TSFFKAG says:

OU really loves Cobb and Daniels. They’ve never indicated otherwise.

  • StL Sooner says:

Does anyone know if there is a reason that football players are not able to sign during the early signing period, like most if not all other athletes?

    • Dick Bump says:

      NCAA rules.

      • StL Sooner says:

I assumed, NCAA rule. I just wonder what the NCAA’s “reason” for the exclusion is.

        • Dick Bump says:

That I don’t know. There’s a lot of talk of an early signing date, which makes sense with so many early enrollees.

          • Zack says:

They should do an early signing period from December 1st through December 15th. The real hang up is that coaches want the opportunity to drag their feet with guys they have commit too early. Some people want basically free agency for players which would be chaos. As archaic as some ncaa rules are, I think this is one they should not worry about. If you can’t keep teams from poaching your players then you probably shouldn’t want those players anyways.

    • Zack says:

Because people will pay attention up until the end

    • Sooner Ray says:

Why would anyone want to end this live reality show? 🙂

  • Zack says:

People should stop slamming what “commitment” means to these kids. We know what it is all season long, also were trying to do the same thing to other schools recruits. When it comes to Cobb specifically I like that he’s made it between Baylor and ou. I think he could really hurt us at Texas but not so much at Baylor unless Baylor is looking at him at WR.
I hope he sticks with ou. I think he has a good opportunity at ou to redshirt then be in line to compete for a starting spot. He’s as talented as the other 2 corners we have committed and I like his game more than mbanasor’s.

    • Stephen says:

Recruiting emotions are so high right now lol

      • BigJoeBrown says:

        LOUD NOISES!

      • Zack says:

K mentioned below that these kids and their families come on here and view what is being said. I think fans are like this everywhere but as proud as we are as ou fans, we have some idiotic ones that should stay off social media outlets. It’s embarrassing.

        • Fear The Magic says:

This is very true. For those that post comments please assume that the recruits could very well be reading you and that your negative comments could very well hurt OUs chances with those recruits.

        • Stephen says:

Yeah, I don’t think fans often realize how easy it is for recruits and fans to see what they’re saying. Gotta be careful on here, twitter, landthieves. You’re representing the brand when you post.

          • Zack says:

Landthieves moves everything to the rant section now. I’m surprised they aren’t deleting them altogether but they would lose a bunch of posters if the over moderate.

          • Stephen says:

There’s some good posters there and then there are just really terrible ones, too. No different than here, I will say it’s more tamed here.

        • Ruffneck737 says:

I agree totally, I have followed this site since JE has posted here. I have never posted before, but to see these young men get blasted for changing their minds really disappoints me.
I have been a Sooner fan since I can remember,, my son only applied to one collage and I was very proud when he was accepted to OU and was even prouder when he earned his degree.
Please gentlemen think about what you post about these young men. We as Sooner fans represent the University Of Oklahoma, and as a parent I can assure any of these parents that are considering letting their sons attend this University there is none better.!!

        • Clint Lenard says:

Honestly, while I agree with what you’re saying, they should also expect that there’s going to be those idiots everywhere and what our idiots say online isn’t going to be anywhere close what rival team’s fans will say before, after and during games.

Also, most of the digs at recruits always seem to be the lurkers who pop up suddenly. Might not always be real OU fans.

          • Zack says:

Your last point is a very good point. I think it’s our job as fans to call them out for trolling.

      • soonerthunder says:

it’s that time of year. usually several fan suicides

    • BoomerDave says:

Good point! Our posters don”t seem to have a problem with us going after other people”s “committed” players. Double standard big time.

    • soonerborn says:

It’s not the flip flopping or the looking around that I have a problem with. Shop around as much as you would like and please make the best decision for yourself. The issue I have is if you do plan on looking around, please announce that you have reopened your recruitment. Don’t say, “I’m still committed to said university but I will be deciding on NSD between said school and said school”.

      • Zack says:

Basically he wants his spot at ou more right now than he wants to be open. He’s not using up someone’s scholarship, he’s a take no matter what just like mayden.
I look at it this way, he’s a kid and should be given the benefit of the doubt. Have you looked at John douchbaugh up at Michigan, he’s pulling offers left and right to guys who have been committed for awhile. Other schools do that stuff even ou when we’ve told kids to look around. It’s worked out well for us because the offers we’ve pulled had been behind closed doors and we’ve allowed players to land at other power 5 schools.

  • Soonerboyz says:

Parrish Cobb recent decision between Baylor and OU sounds like it is playing off Mayden decision between Alabama or OU. I am wonder if Cobb did this because he did not like that OU was going after Mayden also.

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

The thing is Mayden isn’t committed anymore. He’s available now. Cobb is committed. He shouldn’t be available.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

        Committed:
        1. Having residence in an insane asylum.

        2. Telling coaches and the entire cyber world that you are coming to play football for their school, until another offer comes in.

    • Jpsooner23 says:

If he’s afraid of mayden then I will take mayden. Not convinced that’s the case though.

  • sooner8 says:

This whole recruiting bit is just crazy. The $$$,the sexy Women, the head coaches acting like idiots, but the recruits Love It!So do it or get left behind!!And OU is at risk??

  • Lincoln Hawk says:

Sooooo….how does a coach watch the Jacobs film and not offer as soon as they pick their jaw up off of the floor? That dude is impressive! Do want.

    • OUknowitscomin says:

I finally watched his film, can’t believe I didn’t before. While the completion seemed real weak, there is zero question in my mind he’s seriously talented. My question is why the heck haven’t we, tOSU & others gone after him before now? Seems a no brainer, except ‘stars’. 2700+yds & 35 TD’s this year? That’s crazy.

      • Gary Robbins says:

Good question. He had several write ups in the Tulsa World. Their record was 6-5 last season. They played class 4-A in Oklahoma.

      • BoomerDave says:

Bigger question is why haven”t Tulsa, KU or little OSU given him a look?

      • Jpsooner23 says:

I agree. Just watched for the first time and wow.

      • j l says:

Level of competition. Oklahoma football isnt near as competitive as it is in recruiting hotbeds, and he plays 2 divisions down from the top.

Hard to gauge his talent when he isnt playing against anyone with D1 talent.

    • Zack says:

They gotta make sure he actually wants to be there. See what programs they have and what not. Plus I think they want him but they don’t want to rush it.

    • Martin says:

      He’s got some wheels.

    • SoonerGoneEast says:

I watched his film a while back and remember wondering about the level of competition. He was just so much better and so much faster than everyone else. It was like he had two gears, pre-snap and warp.

  • Gary Robbins says:

Who else might announce for OU on NSD or even before. Obvious OU can’t accept all even if they wanted too.
    Caleb Kelly
    Jared Mayden
    Parrish Cobb
    Tramonda Moore
    Mark Jackson
    Chris Daniels
    Marcel Southall
    Jauan Williams
    Maxs Tupai
    Brandon Bowen
    Zach Farrar
    Josh Jacobs
    Briston Guidry
    One impressive list.

  • Jpsooner23 says:

OT, but did u guys see what FSU paid the woman accusing Winston? So she gets rich, he gets off Scott free. How does this stop the crap from happening and/or false accusations of it happening? Maybe I missed some detail here, but wow.

  • Sooner Ray says:

    Down goes Kansas.

    • SoonerGoneEast says:

That’s the second time ISU knocked ’em in the head.

      • Sooner Ray says:

Time for us to take control of this conference.

        • SoonerGoneEast says:

I guess that was their only loss to ISU, but this is sure looking to be the year they come down. I’m a little disappointed seeing Kansas struggle, though. I would have much rather they be at the top of the BIG XII when they come to town next month.

And I’m shocked we’re still ranked number one in the AP.

          • Sooner Ray says:

I get what you’re saying, I’m just a little tired of Kansas always getting the free pass when it comes being the best in conference. As for the ranking, I expected it based on other top teams struggling and our strength of schedule.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

I agree, but you know, it didn’t bother me quite as much when Roy Williams was coaching. Bill Self, there’s just something about that guy.

          • JD says:

            Wasn’t he a poke

  • Jim Casy says:

Wow. So Saban shows up in Mayden’s living room tonight and does a dance. We’re boned.

    • Sooner Ray says:

At least he didn’t snuggle up in his bed and spend the night…that we know of.

    • Clint Lenard says:

Saban hurt white people more than he hurt OU’s chances with Mayden.

      • blaster1371 says:

See, if I’m Mayden I’m a little offended at Saban’s dance routine. I’m sure kids think it’s cool but as an adult I think he will look back at it and be little put off that he chose to “connect” in that way.

      • BigJoeBrown says:

One of those things that are just painful to watch.

    • Fear The Magic says:

Stoops will have to up the anti and do a break dance including head spins.

    • blaster1371 says:

And that is so unnecessary for Saban to pander to them like that. Just go in and be Saban and say “this is Alabama”. I know he doesn’t get every player they offer but any team in the nation would gladly take any player that signs with Alabama.

  • Jim Casy says:

    Harbaugh showing true colors.

  • MikeyBoom says:

Sorry if this has been asked already but what is the latest on Briston Guidry ? Did he visit already? Also with Jajuan Williams? Do we have any chance with any of these guys?
