2016 DT Chris Daniels Decommits From Oklahoma

With exactly two weeks to go until National Signing Day, the Sooners suffered a significant loss to their 2016 class when highly sought after DT Chris Daniels announced his decommitment Wednesday evening.

We’ll have more in the coming days as to what this means for the class as a whole and whether or not this means Daniels and the Sooners are done for good.

Clearly we all saw this coming!

So who’s ready to start drinking?

  • Steve Cooke says:

Seeya don’t let the door where the good Lord split ya!

  • Soonerboyz says:

When u r continuing to take visits you are a ‘soft’ verbal/..Not committed.

  • Fear The Magic says:

Better get your Spanish grades in order Chris.

  • Eric Hutton says:

    Is he getting Hog wild???

  • RBear says:

If I were on the OU staff, I think I might just have to power the phone off for the day- start new tomorrow.

  • Clint Lenard says:

He spelled Click Clack incorrectly. Do not want.

  • rphokc says:

    gee, whatta surprise……….so, arky?

  • j l says:

Why even bother committing, what, a month ago?

Should have just put off his commit date if he was really that unsure.

    • Zack says:

I’m not gonna bash his commitment, not that you are, I think he wanted to be done a month ago and didn’t expect recruiting to heat up after committing.

      • rphokc says:

yup, rush of schools/attention down the stretch

      • j l says:

He got the texas offer the day before, if it was going to be that influential, should have just postponed.

Not bashing either, just seems really weird to “commit” for a month.

        Oh well, next man up.

        • Zack says:

Well the thing is it was sh***y that Texas offered him then knowing he was announcing the next day and had probably planned an announcement at his school. But this is Arkansas and ole miss getting to him. He’s not staying in Texas IMO.

          • j l says:

Something really fishy going on at ole miss man. Theres no way that they are literally beating us out on EVERY single recruit that we are both involved in.

          • Zack says:

It’s the “chicks” cause no other campus has girls. And freeze is a “really good guy.”

          • j l says:

Daniels seems like a good kid, not likely one to take a payday. Maybe they are just “guaranteeing” instant playing time to everyone?

Guessing we would have made him redshirt, maybe he dosent want to.

          • Zack says:

I would hope kids are smart enough to not buy the early PT crap. IMO unless a lineman is an absolute freak or you are thin at the position, I think they should redshirt. It’s a grown man’s game in the trenches and there’s a big difference between true freshmen at 18 or 19 vs RSSR that are 22 or 23.

          • j l says:

A lot of kids would rather play early, even if they arent ready. I wouldnt put it past an SEC school to offer that guarantee of immediate playing time. Whether they actually do it or not, is an entirely different story.

          • Stephen Dale says:

better conference and OU won’t pay em.

  • Stephen says:

Glad he finally made it official. This has been coming for about 2 weeks now.

  • Mizuno44 says:

he needs to send the Boom tshirt back, and hope he goes to Texas to rebuild their program to elite 8-4 seasons

    • hOUligan says:

Yeah. That whole wearing his BOOM T while hosting the other coaches on top of his OU cake. smh

      • Ed Cotter says:

Can just imagine Reynolds and Stoops’ faces when they saw his tweet about 3 hours ago. SMH

          maybe they weren’t surprised ?

          • guest says:

Maybe OU needed assurances which Daniels couldn’t give them, so they asked him to publicly decommit to open a window of opportunity for someone hungrier to be developed by former NFL-er, Coach Reynolds.

          • Stephen Dale says:

            riiiiiiiiiiight.

    • Stephen Dale says:

Texas could win the league next season if it can play with the intensity it did in beating OU & Baylor…..

      • GreginDestin says:

and more likely, they go 5-7 or worse, still have no QB, the entire coaching staff gets fired or paid off, but old Mr. Daniels will, by that time, realize his college career is significantly damaged. Of course, he could always rehabilitate it by transferring to Texas State or Sam Houston State…

      • guest says:

That’s a really big “if”. I would say highly unlikely.

      • Spitting Bull says:

If we played with any intensity at all we would have beat them last year. You kind of forgot that part.

      • Boomer4life says:

        Said no one ever!

  • Birddawg says:

Not exactly a position of need. Welcomed but we are fine.
Use the scholly for someone else in a position of need.
Maybe someone who just had his offer pulled after being committed for nearly two years.

    Just a thought

  • Jeff says:

Who was OU back up plan?

  • RBear says:

Another source states he’s still considering all options, pfft…

  • sooner8 says:

Coach Reynolds is not exactly setting the world on fire in recruiting!!

  • SoonerinLondon says:

We lost Lampkin the same way last year. Move on. We’ll be fine.

  • Jason Vos says:

Just like Lampkin, he will be back sooner rather than later once he realizes the mistake he is making

    • ColoradoSooner says:

Better check his foreign language requirement.

      • Gurry says:

Please expand a bit. We don’t require one in saxet? (Live in SA now)

        • Zack says:

Lampkin (purposefully) IMO did not qualify due to language credits. I guess Texas may require different credits than ou. He let it be known he was not happy with Texas when they let his DL coach go.

  • sooner8 says:

The University of Oklahoma should not be scrambling around like a bunch of ants on fire to find players two weeks before signing day.

    • Brad Warren says:

Why? We’re terrible. I’m surprised we get anybody to play for us. Has anybody done a health/welfare check on D Hunter Sanchez? I bet he’s really freaking out. Lol.

  • Gurry says:

Usually when you say “My Decision” it wasn’t…
Good luck with the short horns and their new staff in 2017

  • Jason Vos says:

If he decommited from a school that has recruiting him since the start to go elsewhere to a school that came in last minute, then his heart wasn’t into being a sooner. wish him the best

    • Stephen Dale says:

no kidding……he played OU as a fallback plan unless Texas failed to pursue him…when that changed, he was gone..

  • Bill Holder says:

I’m for pulling ever ship from every player who commits then says he’s going to take visits. He may still wind up here but wouldn’t if I was coach.

  • SavageSoonerEsq says:

    Wow…

  • Jerry Reid says:

Anybody hear talk about him liking his Arkansas visit

  • Fear The Magic says:

I think that he took a good look at Gallimore, Overton and Lampkin that are ahead of him and said “hmmm maybe I better rethink this”

    • Mizuno44 says:

Most reasonable I’ve seen, Strong’s selling the kitchen sink to avoid realtors soon

    • metzker says:

Maybe but if hes that good competition should not be a Fear, no pun intended

      • Fear The Magic says:

Not belittling the kid but even before he committed to us I checked out his hudl and my immediate impression was that he looks good but not nearly Lampkin good. I was glad when he committed but not even close to being blown away.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Remember Texass was unable to land any DL commits in 2015. Or perhaps Charlie sold him that we are a racist school.

  • KJ1123 says:

Well it is what it is…..cant put any stock into kids decisions. Especially life decisions based on barely 18 years of life.

  • F1at1ined says:

His vehement ‘my decision’ rings a little fake. Like others have said, hard to consider him a true commit when he continued to keep options open. It’s his right of course but don’t give your word and by doing so, cost the university a chance at other viable targets that they may have turned away or cooled pursuit of.

  • Johnny Greenlantern Otis says:

oh my. well i was wrong on this one. i thought the whole im still a sooner deal the other day meant something hahaha

    • Brad Warren says:

That was just a kid playing games – social media has really made recruiting insane.

      • Johnny Greenlantern Otis says:

thats very true. just wild i remeber the days when u stood by your word. im only 32 but its like whats the point of committing u have until NSD to do it dont get a cake and all that and make a big deal out of it if u dont want to do it then dont

  • Jason Vos says:

Why would you commit in the first place? Only to change your mind not even a month into your commitment. Ou probably stopped pursuing some DT targets, now with about 2 weeks left to signing day you decide to decommit smh.

    • DCinAZ says:

      To get a Texas offer.

      • Brad Warren says:

        That’s probably accurate imo

        • Hotrod33 says:

uterus doesn’t even think about this kid for the longest time and then when they hear he is going to commit to us then, hey your good enough for us. No wonder we hate them so much. They still suck

    • ALar03 says:

It’s the short term version of Levi draper…. We just ended up on the other side.. It’s recruiting either they come here or they don’t ever since Meachem I have realized everyone has their reasons for their choices good luck but hope we beat your butt for 4 years

  • DCinAZ says:

Seems like we got played just to get Texas off of the sideline.

  • Jason Vos says:

Hope we can still get in on the Stefon Taylor guy

  • Johnny Greenlantern Otis says:

he still could committ back but its like if texass really swayed him that much at the last minute then so be it it does sound like a lumpkin 2016 moment

  • Dusty D Anderson says:

I honestly thought this would be a signing day flip, so this really doesn’t surprise me at all.

  • Jason Vos says:

DT is not a huge position of need, hopefully we can make up for his loss with another defensive guy like Jared Mayden or Mark Jackson

  • Mizuno44 says:

Looked at his Twitter account and ass kissing galore

  • TY says:

He’s lazy and came into his senior season out of shape ou doesn’t need him. They can do better trust me. Let him go to ut because his dad’s friends with Charlie strong, he’ll probably get fired anyways. Calm down it will be alright

    • metzker says:

Geezzz dude hes a kid don’t belittle him BOOMERRRRRRRRRRR

      • Brad Warren says:

No kidding – thank Jesus there was no social media when I was 18.

      • TY says:

Im not belittling anyone, he went to my high school. I was stating a fact, don’t believe me check the tape his junior year then look at any early game his senior season. He was out of shape. I’ll root for him regardless just saying ou will be alright

    • Mizuno44 says:

My biggest beef is the behavior after the verbal, disrespectful to us and any other legitimate kid who is truly interested in being here. I don’t buy the oh they’re teenagers bit either, he mishandled himself in this process.

      • hOUligan says:

Again, seems like a good kid, but gotta agree somewhat. You want to do the twitter thing and ‘commit’… seems the norm. But the whole party and cake thing and wearing the BOOM shirt then his tweet after the visits, #OU #OUCommit #BOOM was all too much.

      • JD says:

I wonder how the in home went..he had his Boom shirt on also. To me that was disrespectful if he already knew…but I’m not one to care much about one guy. On to the next one. Prob not the biggest priority on the line anyways with the young depth

  • Reuben63 says:

    But why?!

  • Justin Morgans says:

What’s he gonna do when Charlie gets fired.

    • Stephen Dale says:

play and star for the next coach.

      • Spitting Bull says:

Why are you so optimistic about other teams and pissy about OU yet claim to be a fan? They should change the saying “Debbie Downer,” to Dale Downer. Don’t be such a dale downer, Stephen. Oh wait……………..you can’t help it.

    • GreginDestin says:

and the next coaching staff considers him damaged goods, benches him hoping he will transfer…

  • BamaSooner#12! says:

Maybe this opens the way for a Guidry flip or a Taylor and Southall commit?

  • Soonerboyz says:

Soft verbals mean they are not through listening to other coaches and visiting other schools so…they are not really committed.

  • Mark_in_VA says:

I said right when he acted all butt-hurt about ut taking so long to offer, that this kid is making me think of Roy Miller all over again. Well, there you go.

    • DCinAZ says:

When I saw his father’s tweet calling out Texsa for offering late I knew this would happen.

      • Mark_in_VA says:

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking of. I forgot it was his dad, but the butt-hurt was exactly like Roy Miller, and so far the way it’s transpired has been just like that too.

Next thing, he’ll commit to whorn and then spend his career bad-talking OU. Then his transformation into Roy Miller will be complete.

  • Alwaysasooner says:

Hopefully southall and Bledsoe pan out

  • DCinAZ says:

We’re a playoff team and top 5 going into next year. Seems like we’re playing checkers while others are playing chess.

  • KellyB says:

I wonder what he’ll do with his BOOM shirt

  • SamSooner says:

It is what it is. I wish the young man good luck and great fortune.

There’s nothing anyone can do. I suggest we not spend time worrying about it.
What the coaches can do is look for their next victory.

    Moving on.

  • wolfbuilder says:

Said this a few days ago on here but we have missed out on a bunch of top dt and dends, I know Diron needs time but he is a huge step back from Monty in recruiting

    • SamSooner says:

The street lights are on and I hear your mother calling you in.

    • DCinAZ says:

Yep. So far Diron hasn’t exactly lit it up on the recruiting trail. Not dogging him, but facts are facts.

      • wolfbuilder says:

I agree, now it was his first year but just like Kish he looks to be a great x’s and o’s coach but needs help recruiting

        • DCinAZ says:

True but he’s got a lot of young big time talent waiting that haven’t even seen the field yet so it’s a tough sell for him when others are promising immediate playing time (like Texsa).

      • JD says:

Good thing he can coach circles around Monty

        • DCinAZ says:

That seems to be true as well.

          • JD says:

We have what I consider 3 stud DT freshman (well Overton will be a soph) on campus right now. I was impressed we got Daniels in the first place

          • DCinAZ says:

That’s what I said below. With the talent we have on campus that hasn’t even played a snap, it’s a tough sell.

        • wolfbuilder says:

Doesn’t matter how good u r if u don’t have talent to coach, and I would love to know y u think Diron was so much better, I didn’t see much improvement, tapper never got better Dimon never really showed up and romar was avg at best

          • Jpsooner23 says:

Many, many notable d line folks mentioned technique issues when Monty was here. I would have loved to have seen what diron could have done with big Jordan last yr. he got a lot out if that group for the most part this yr. I am very confident he’ll show what he can develop with the younger guys we have on campus.

          • JD says:

Ask any body that knows about technique and they will tell you how much improved they were from a year ago. I thought our d line did pretty well considering they were all 3 stars. Look how much better the linebackers played. Sometimes thats a sign that the oline isn’t on them and they can hit the gap…bottom line is Reynold is a much better coach than Monty..heck hes been doing it in the league for a decade. Monty still has a lot to learn. I won’t even get into some rumors as to why Monty did leave.

      • Fear The Magic says:

I agree and while we’re on the subject I dont think Simmons is killing it either.
Gotta love what Cooks is doing though.

        • DCinAZ says:

No he’s not and neither is Cale which is surprising.

          • Stephen Dale says:

yeah, I’m surprised about the WR recruiting or lack thereof..as much as OU throws the ball, it would seem a WR would be jumping at the chance to play in this offense…which brings us to Velus Jones and an absence of news about the in-home visit….makes one wonder if he decided to stay with USC.

    • Zack says:

Reynolds came into a situation where recruiting was going to be tough. He’s got depth at the position. We’re selling a 3 man front so there’s less opportunity to play and play immediately. Last year was a large DL class. Overton, gallimore, Mann, Campbell, lampkin and Roberts. So it’s tough to bring in another great class right after that. People forget monty’s first class here was pretty weak and both signees from 2014 may not be on the DL next year. Garnett is linked to transfer rumors and they moved Orso to OL.

      • wolfbuilder says:

U have rally have one one spot

In a 4 front ur 3 tech plays the 4i in our 3 front and or u can recruit a big dend but the spots r the same ur NG in a 3 front is the same kinda recruits as a 1 tech in a 4 front, ur song side backer on the outside (Bonds spot) can be field by a athletic weak side dend our a big strong side backer

      • rphokc says:

        smoke with garnett? when/where

    • blaster1371 says:

I don’ t recall Monty bringing in any five stars.

      • M Shuster says:

We don’t get 5* athletes here very often any more at all….

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Will someone say why? What happened? Why commit here in the first place?

          • Stephen Dale says:

good question ! possibly to hold a spot in case Texas didn’t offer ? Texas got a guy with no character, however. A man is as good as his word.

      • Fear The Magic says:

Monty was a way better recruiter than Reynolds. I think Reynolds is a better coach though. Kind of a trade off but the bottom line is that if Reynolds cant bring in some serious talent then all the coaching in the world wont get us to where we want to be.

      • Mr. Jones says:

Deberry was a 5 star according to Scout. Monty recruited him.

    • Jpsooner23 says:

      Did I miss signing day?

  • Kevin Fielder says:

Well, this bites…but if it “HIS DECISION”, he’ll live with it. I got the feeling he was stating the pressure was getting to him. That might not bode well on down the line. I hope he feels good with his decision. Now, let’s get another star in the making!

  • pawneesooner says:

Maybe we should just focus on some homegrown talent.

    • Zack says:

We need a good mix and I think we’re doing that. This was a Texas kid and people think we should be focusing on Texas more than nationally. We won’t win titles if half our recruits are okpreps, not enough top level talent right now. Maybe 2018 there will be with southmoore’s rise.

  • Jpsooner23 says:

    Come on down Mr. Guidry

    • Gary Robbins says:

I agree-flip Guidry and get Southall on board. I didn’t realize Daniels family is from Arkansas. Hmm.

      • Jpsooner23 says:

I mentioned something the other day, but I gotta feeling bout Guidry.

Land the 2 u mentioned and Bledsoe and that dl class is fine considering what’s on campus now. Next yr we need to land a freak in the middle though.

  • blaster1371 says:

Oh well. Bet the sun still rises in the east tomorrow.

  • Mizuno44 says:

Well signing off for the evening, but I want to end on a good note. Grab your favorite beverage, beer, NyQuil, wine, or moonshine, Cheers Everyone!

It isn’t over till its over. Maybe he just needs time to decompress so he can think clearly. Whatever he decides to do, you have to respect his independence. Even if it’s clearly an illogical decision for everyone else, he has to go with his gut feeling in the end. Blessings to him.

  • Cav66 says:

Well, on to the next prospect. All the best young man.

Oh the horror! Oh the humanity! Oh wait…we still have a football team? Nevermind… Good luck young man…we hardly knew ye. Spring can’t get here soon enough…

Who is teaching these kids to thank the school, coaches and fans for their support and then follow it with a notice of divorce. I see these tweets everywhere, and frankly it’s a backhanded apology. It’s like telling your steady how great she is but you’re dumping her. Not the way to do it. Just say I’ve decided the school may not be the best place for you and leave it at that.

Best of luck to the kid. Hope somebody teaches him how to break off a relationship with more credibility.

  • Glocal Sooner says:

Very disappointing news. For the life of me, I can’t understand why elite players aren’t coming to OU like they are to some of the other schools. Maybe I’m blinded by Crimson glasses. I’m sure Stevie Dale can enlighten me. It certainly appears that we have all everything in place for elite players to want to come here. The only things I can think of is we don’t offer a beach, palm trees, money or women and I’m not going to apologize for that. If you want to be a Sooner, then we’re happy to have you. If you don’t, we’ll beat you at some point down the road.

  • Brad Warren says:

This is a fitting excerpt from article on a real commit –

The humble young man hasn’t wavered on his OU commitment. There have been more suitors, but Smith cuts them off at his office. Terry asked his coach to handle late recruiting pitches because, as Smith says, Terry “didn’t want to look at them and say he was sorry.

“He didn’t want to listen because he was going to Oklahoma,” Smith added. “There’s something to be said about loyalty. That’s a quality that you don’t see often these days and I’m proud of him for that.”

  • Sooner Scoop says:

It’s all good. Better he decommit now, than on signing day. Best wishes. Something tells me OU will still be great.

  • Jeff says:

Can you imagine the meltdown if this occurs: Cobb flips to the Bonghorns, Kelly chooses Notre Dame, Bledsoe chooses Kansas, Southall goes elsewhere and the coaches backup plans are not even close to the level of talent they had committed? Wow. OU wins 11 games, goes to the CF playoff, and still can’t get top notch talent? I understand recruiting is fluid and we’re dealing with high school kids, but there no way to spin this. For some reason kids are not buying what they are selling in Norman.

    • SamSooner says:

Jeff, I don’t have any proof, but I would bet you there’s some cheating and negative recruiting going on. I think Bob is doing it the right way. If OU doesn’t get any of those kids, they are still stocked well enough for a couple of years. I wouldn’t offer anyone. I’d save the scholarships for next year.

      It is what it is.

      • Jeff says:

Yes but you can never have enough QUALITY depth in the trenches. What if we lose two inside DL during the first two weeks of the season?

  • SamSooner says:

I wish Chris Daniels the best in life. I don’t blame him. He’s 17 years old and still very impressionable.

I blame the parents for allowing their kids to waiver on commitments. That goes for kids who get flipped to OU and kids who have flipped from OU. My wife and I tell our kids they have to see things through. You don’t have to do it again but we’ve already told the coach you are playing, we’ve paid the fee, and arranged our schedules to get you where you need to be.

Max, my son, asked one of his fellow swimmers why he’s been missing practice the other day. It’s something his coaches want them to do: it builds leadership skills and it creates accountability. The kid is a good friend of Max’s. He told Max to suck his d**k.

The parents, who are friends of ours, allowed the kid to quit the team. He’s not my kid but if he was, he would have finished this season.

Back to Daniel’s parents: there should have been a conversation with Chris prior to his commitment, something along this line:

“Chris, are you sure about your commitment to OU? Do you still want to make your announcement as planned? Here’s why I’m asking you this, Chris: Texas and Arkansas are going to make a push for you. You have to determine if you want to hear what they have to offer.

“If you still want to go to OU, if you’re sure, go ahead and commit. If not, I recommend you don’t make your announcement tomorrow. Here’s why: the coaches at OU should be able to count on you coming because it will determine what they do. If you say you’re committed to OU, they’re going to stop recruiting other kids who play your position. I won’t allow you to do that to them or any other school.

“The next eight months we are together are the last months I will have to be a major voice in your decisions. I want to leave a lasting impression that will carry you the next four years of your life. In those fours years, when I’m not around you, I want you to hear my voice over all the noise and do the right thing.

“I want you to be honorable and keep your word as much as possible. While this is your decision, I want you to think about how this impacts everyone. It’s your choice, make a decision. But once you choose, I won’t allow you to back out of your commitment.”

    • Thomas Lenard says:

You’re a great dad, Sam. Sadly, there seem to be only a few good parents.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

While I know where you are coming from, as a parent, you can’t make your kid spend 4-5 years at a school just b/c they committed and changed their mind. Maybe the parents should have made Daniels make sure before his committment, but things change. To force your kid to be unhappy and potentially ruin their college experience to teach them to honor their word is a silly expectation in my opinion.

Sucks when it happens, but things are changing so quickly for these kids, and coaches are pressuring them to commit or lose their spots, I don’t hold it against the kid if it’s done right. That said, I think Daniels is making a mistake. I’d never let a personal connection as lame as some of my family being acquainted with a coach determine 4-5 years of my life. Even lamer when they let ole Charlie swoop in at the last minute. But whatevs.

      • SamSooner says:

You’re right: things change. A coach leaves or the coaches want to change your role. I get it and I agree with you: a possible reevaluation of the commitment is in order.

    • Fear The Magic says:

Great post Sam. You’re a good father.
      Wanna adopt me?

      • SamSooner says:

Fear, thanks. I just believe in being a decent person. As for the adoption, we’ll see. What’s your future earning potential? Do you know?

        • soonermusic says:

Agree with all your sentiments, but as a parent, I’m sure you know that it’s a whole lot easier to look in from the outside and say “they should have done this, or they should have done that” but if you’re not on the inside, aware of all the factors and history and relationships that go into the decision, it’s often hard to make an accurate assessment.

I keep thinking how difficult it is to handle as an adult when folks everywhere are “blowing smoke” in your ‘direction.’ Imagine if you were so talented that that was happening your whole young life, (maybe you don’t have to imagine, maybe you were…:-) ,and then think about trying to control that as a parent of someone who spends his whole life being told how great he is. Many do succeed very well at it, but what a challenge. And don’t forget to factor in the “dad living his life vicariously through his son’s exploits” part as well. Yikes.

It’s all about maintaining perspective, imho.

          • SamSooner says:

You raise some good points. Especially , whe you said, “Imagine if you were so talented that that was happening your whole young life…then think about trying to control that as a parent of someone who spends his whole life being told how great he is.”

That would be difficult. I wish nothing but the best for Chris.

        • Fear The Magic says:

Sam if were anything decent I wouldnt be asking to be adopted.

  • Glocal Sooner says:

Wasn’t it Stephon Taylor that was linked with Clifford Chattman? I Chattmon is still high on us. With Daniels decommitting, I wonder if we would now take Taylor and Chattmon. I know they wanted to play together. Just a thought.

  • bjwalker82 says:

OU loses a commit and @disqus_0WNBsGXHbO:disqus comes in flyin’ with contentment and prosperity. I love him so much. And @disqus_lCb9y202zE:disqus is slowly becoming his lover and partner in negativity.

I have to admit that I am committing a very horrible crime of loitering and spying on their love affair by reading all of their posts. Please forgive me for my transgressions. I just can’t help myself. I need help.

  • rainydaze114 says:

Well… not surprised to see this honestly.

  • Johnny Greenlantern Otis says:

ou is deep at DL right now not worried about daniels if he comes back he does if he doesnt then oh well next man up we shouldnt be here 100+ posts deep complaining about a kid that changed his mine its happened before it will happen again it doesnt stop the sooner wagon from being great. i promise you were not gonna sit here in a few years an go man we had a bad season all cause of chris daniels not signing

    • rainydaze114 says:

The thing is though, recruiting isn’t about “right now”… things like this come back to bite you a couple years down the road. I’m not complaining, people change their minds all the time. Time to move on.

      • SoonerNutt says:

I’m only worried about it if we can’t get quality DTs signed next year. We signed three stellar ones last year, so we can afford a down year. But it can’t be a trend.

  • TennSooner says:

Anytime a kid commits but says I am still taking official visits…you have to take their commitment with a large grain of salt. Good luck to the young man.

  • Soonerboyz says:

Daniels favorite movie is prob ‘ Runaway bride’…exception is he didin’t go to the alter the day of ..thank goodness.
    Move ON!

  • paganpink says:

He’s ONE person- with an unknown future. Folks that are posting “we don’t get the good recruits anymore” etc. are out of their minds. IF HE DOESN’T WANT TO BE HERE -LET HIM GO. When was recruiting any different? Never. No one gets them all, no single player is crucial to our team, and we have others coming. Period.

    • SamSooner says:

A voice of reason in a crowd where there is chaos.

    • Eddie and Amber says:

I think this is more of an over-reaction then some of the people panicking … “IF HE DOESN’T WANT TO BE HERE – LET HIM GO” … No No No … I don’ think this is the case. Its more like HE WANTS TO BE HERE BUT WANTS TO BE SOMEWHERE ELSE MORE.

That’s what being a good coach that can recruit is all about. Rarely is it black and white for these kids as to “I LOVE THIS SCHOOL so I HATE EVERY OTHER SCHOOL”. We are currently trying to recruit a bunch of “doesn’t want to be heres” in Baylor’s commit along with a few others already committed. Yeah I’m bummed but stuff like this happens.

I’m sure Bob and company was still recruiting the DT position hard as if Daniels wasn’t committed. “He’s not committed if he’s taking visits,” Stoops said in August 2012. “And we tell him that. Then we say, ‘Well, if that’s the case then you’re not committed to us.’ We don’t accept that commitment. We’ll keep recruiting guys at your position.”
