– Stephon Taylor: 2016 DT Stephon Taylor (New Orleans, LA) has released his top 5 which includes South Carolina, LSU, Texas, Florida State and Oklahoma.

Many of you will recall that Stephon visited Oklahoma this past fall along with teammate and current TCU commit, Sci Martin.

I have been told by folks close to Taylor that Texas is his leader however OU is only one of two schools in Stephon’s top 5 that is still in it for his teammate and friend Clifford Chattman. – (Super K)

  • Defend Colfax says:

    Boomer!

  • Onikuno says:

Is there an official list of who may commit at the US Army game this weekend?

  • Glocal Sooner says:

The numbers are getting tight. We don’t have enough slots left for all the guys we’re in the mix on. That’s a good thing I guess. I doubt we get/take either Taylor or Chattman.

    • Defend Colfax says:

But what if we got both?

      • Glocal Sooner says:

We could be operating on a first come, first serve basis with 2 slots guaranteed for Moore and Kelly. In that case, I guess we could take both. I think we’d prefer Mayden over Chattman. Not sure between Taylor and Southall.

        • Brien Brown says:

To add to that well will keep spots open for a Velus Jones or Q. Davis at the WR spot. IFFFFFFF we get a surprise like Burton, Price, Little, Cleveland, or a Juarez we will make the room. But Moore and Kelly have spots secured and I agree Mayden over Chattman. I’d take Southall over Taylor he is the kid that between the 2 seems like he has more OUDNA!

      • Stephen Dale says:

that would mean OU lost out on more preferred targets………….

    • Doobie74OU says:

There is a lot of chatter on the ol’ interweb about a current recruit not staying committed. That would open a spot and most of the reports said to not worry about the loss because of who we will gain. Football games are easy and pretty black and white. Better team usually wins, and if they don’t you can point to something like turnovers or special teams or something crazy as the reason but recruiting is a whole different monster. It is about relationships, connections, 1 on 1 player & coach trust, playing time, and the players family being comfortable with were their child will be for 4 years. It is way more intriguing to me to watch recruiting. Don’t get me wrong I love my football but I equally love this time of year when all these kids are making these huge decisions! Gonna be a fun ride the next month!

  • Tyler Cheek says:

How many are we projecting in this class?

  • Mizuno44 says:

Okay Super K, if you know additional, secret recruiting details, it must be very difficult for you to hold them inside. Think of all of us as your support group, and get them out of your system, we’re here to help.

    • Super K says:

I think right now OUs picture is pretty clear. The wild cards right now would be the Kongbo and Mayden and how much mutual interest there is between OU and them. Brandon is checking on Kongbo and Alex is talking to Mayden’s father.

      • Brien Brown says:

K any Dark Horses just a gut that could be a surprise come signing day. Mean just seems we always get one that just wasn’t a for sure or was a real head turner that maybe most just didn’t see coming or is it set in stone basically who we know is kind of worth watching. I am talking other than Kongbo or Mayden

      • bommer85 says:

we found out we are out on juarez yesterday..is there even a slim chance we pull off a huge surprise, a la, jack jones, burton, tyrie cleveland etc.

  • Tim A says:

Any concern about Daniels flipping to Texas?

    • Glocal Sooner says:

Always until the player signs his LOI.

    • Stephen Dale says:

of course. Strong is a longtime family friend of the Daniels’s…..

      • Mizuno44 says:

Despite the family connection, Strong made a huge mistake by offering so late.

        • Doobie74OU says:

This was OU a couple years back! Thinking they had kids sown up because they were legacies or had a connection to the team and not get the offer out in time. Lost a couple guys to Texas teams because of that it would only be fair if they returned the favor.

        • Kyle Boone says:

You can say that if he ends up signing with OU. But it’s sounding like it may work out for UT

          • Mizuno44 says:

I respect you saying that, but I’m banking on Daniels remaining with the team fresh out of the playoffs versus flipping to a team that’s still rebuilding that has a long way to go

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

If he does, we know it’s about something other than football like with Delance. To be honest, I don’t mind losing those kinds of kids.

        • Oscar says:

Exactly. If he is THAT close to the family, there would have been a lot of communications and meet up opportunities over the last 2 years, and an offer would have been made earlier with Austin visits.

      • Bob Bender says:

of course nonstop negativity has no bearing either

    • Super K says:

I’m torn. I think there is a concern just because that weekend he goes to Texas is going to be a really big recruiting weekend. But if he holds fast then I don’t think anyone else can remotely sway him.

    • bommer85 says:

granted I’m just a normal sooner fan who does basic research, but yes sadly I could see him flipping. i actually think he will

    • Zack says:

Daniels could and if so then he will regret it just like lampkin did. Texas does not offer a solid foundation or future for him. If strong goes 5-7 again he is gone and what good would that family connection be then?

  • ccmosaic says:

This site is officially dead today. Thinking it wont pick up until some of these HS bowls are done and kids start picking.

    • Zack says:

I would spend more time but I’ve had so many issues with the page loading that it’s near impossible to comment throughout the day. Right now I’ve found a way to view the page through Disqus.

  • bommer85 says:

We should throw an offer to the recent ILB that de-commited from Bama, Jaquan Yulee, said he wants good academics and a chance to play as a freshman, sounds like OU to me.

    • Super K says:

I’ll check and see what’s up with him.

    • Stephen Dale says:

since he is from Virginia and is interested in ‘good academics’ , Virginia and Penn St.–both of whom have offered–may be target schools for him…..possibly tOSU, too.

  • Lincoln Hawk says:

J or K, when can we expect more player evaluations or blind tape tests? I really enjoyed those in the past. Thanks!

    • Brien Brown says:

Hey Linc just watched your movie the other night I forgot how much I liked it, it was little Over the Top though! LOL. But good point the player evaluations and the blind tape test where fun.

    • Super K says:

      Sure, we can do that!

      • Zack says:

I thought you mentioned doing away with that or was it just the rating those in the blind tape?

  • bommer85 says:

On another note..It seems that no matter how much of a mess texass is they can bring in and flip the big time recruits. Meanwhile OU is coming off of a playoff appearance and tbh I’m a little worried on how this class will close. Is it just location? (Ive been to both Austin and Norman)

    • Brien Brown says:

I think people kept expecting this class to be huge and it was going be a small class no matter what. We have some real good ball players in this class. If we close out with Moore, Kelly, Bledsoe, Southall, and 1-2 others and they happen to be Mayden, Jones Jr, Q. Davis, Little, Doucet, Cleveland, Burton, Juarez, Allen, or M. Jackson. With the guys already committed or signed already this will be a damn good small class. Next years class is already off to a great start!

    • Super K says:

OU has Chris Daniels and leads for Marcel Southall and they don’t have the degree of need that Texas does at the position. Texas wants both Daniels and Southall and wants Jordan Elliot…and none of them are committed to Texas. Their “in” the Louisiana kids has a lot to do with Haley.

      • cush creekmont says:

Thanks K for the details. Texsa still has troubles. A kid must either love the school from way back, love Strong, or thinks it’s the easy-street way to playing time.

      • Zack says:

I get the feeling ou leads for Bledsoe and should land him if his mom wasn’t so hell bent on him staying home. His interview last week seemed to suggest he was leaning toward ou but just wasn’t ready to pull the trigger. Is this what you all are hearing from those in the know?

      • rphokc says:

I would be concerned about any mass recruiting weekend by ut with tx kids, position need and other influences………

  • COSooner says:

John Diarse transferring to TCU from LSU. Can we get a couple WR transfers please?

  • Mizuno44 says:

Would Strong already be out at Texas if it not for the win against us?

    • Doobie74OU says:

Just me but I say No! Surely they knew how bad off they were and had to go into thinking of at least a 3 year plan. Allow him to get a couple recruiting classes and see what he can do! After next year though if we see a repeat performance then heads could roll!

    • soonerthunder says:

No. They wouldn’t have gotten rid of him that quickly, IMO. After next year, though, another story, again, imo. I think he’s gone after next year b/c they still don’t have a QB, and I look for several teams to beat them. KSU usually has a good team every other year, or every third year, so look for them to be better based upon that formula, that will even make it worse for UT.

  • Cedarsooner says:

    Who is Kongmo?

  • BigD says:

We made the top 5 for Stephon Taylor DT.

  • OmorganU says:

I remember seeing a few weeks ago that 2017 reciever KD Nixon tweeted out positive stuff about OU. I haven’t heard his name mentioned at all and don’t see an OU offer for him. He looks to have elite speed and reminds me of Turpin. Anyone know anything in him?

  • Cedarsooner says:

So what have I missed? Why is Kongbos name coming up now when apparently he has shown no interest in OU up to this point in recruiting? Please fill me in.

    • AmaGoh7 says:

This. I live in middle Tennessee and I’m wondering too because my step – son’s are AVID Vols fans and he de-committed from them.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

      Just wishing.

    • Stephen Dale says:

OU may not feel comfortable with Daniels visiting UT and fear a ‘flip’….possibly lining up a replacement should that occur…….

    • cush creekmont says:

“…and the fans love me there.” Good job fellow TFBrs – Mr. Kelly has noted our complements to him. 🙂

    • cush creekmont says:

That’s a serious challenge – OU WBB better improve in the next two years.

      • SamSooner says:

Maybe Coach has challenged the players by scheduling UConn.

        • paganpink says:

That’s right. That is exactly why you schedule the best team in the country for FOUR years. Good for her!

        • Stephen Dale says:

Oklahoma fans will enjoy seeing a championship team on the court in Norman……Katie Lou Samuelson should replace Brianna Stewart as the leader of the lady Huskies……….

    • SoonerinLondon says:

Would like to see us get a new coach before this series begins. We need a fresh start from a motivated, focused new leader.

      • BleedCrimson says:

Sherri is a hall of fame coach. I believe she is deserving of the awards and hope she is around for as long as she desires. With that being said, I do think that the offense can get stuck in the stand around and pass the ball back and forth looking to get the ball inside, with little movement early in games. Then when we find ourselves down, start using the cutting in and passing out to get open shots. I understand a little of it in theory, but if the center is not getting open early in the shot clock, run something else. Then come back to the inside game.

        • SoonerinLondon says:

She is a hall of fame coach. My concerns are related to off-the-court matters that I’ve been hearing about the last few years.

I don’t want to go into detail, but have formed a personal opinion that it is time for a change. It pains me to say it, but I feel strongly about it.

I think the team would benefit from new leadership with a renewed focus.

    • BleedCrimson says:

I believe the incoming Center (Nancy Mulkey) is going to be a nice upgrade to our team. I love KK, but I have never thought of her as an elite player.

    • KJ1123 says:

1000 + Draft eligible, only 224 will get drafted. Less than 200 will make it through camp. Not very good odds.

  • Johnny Greenlantern Otis says:

still dont see why big recruits want to go to texass

  • ohiosoonerdevildog says:

Hey K or Jordan or anybody. Any chance next year we go back to a 4 man front with the 2 teams that beat us this year lined up and played bully ball? I know we have young studs on the dline waiting in the shadows.

  • DCinAZ says:

Would be a tough get. Texas can offer immediate playing time.

  • Zack says:

Let’s hope Texas flips Elliot then they can back off of Daniels.

  • Mizuno44 says:

Seems the lack of recruiting movement for WR this year indicates we’re satisfied with the guys we have on campus

    • SamSooner says:

We have some good guys. Miller and Dahu have shown flashes.

      • Mizuno44 says:

Hope Todd and Mead step up, and we finally get a glimpse for what Quick can do

        • DCinAZ says:

Quick seems bigger than I thought he’d be. Anybody else think so?

          • Zack says:

Not really but he’s going to look noticeably different this fall than he did as a freshman. I think he should have red shirted because he wasn’t even 18 when the season started last year.

          • blaster1371 says:

He is pretty well put together. Cut his hair and change his # and he would look like Shep 2.0…not saying he would play like him.

          • Mizuno44 says:

I don’t think we’ve seen his best yet, he could still be a hidden gem

        • JD says:

Mead made a couple of clutch catches ( maybe just one clutch but two catches to move the chains) in the OB. I was actually surprised he was used early. Must have had some good bowl prep. I was hoping for more from Quick…he could have had a big gain on one play but ran the wrong way. I expect more from both next year as upperclassmen

        • John Garner says:

Quick is running out of time. If he doesn’t make a move in the spring, he may be a candidate to transfer.

      • Wilson says:

I’m confused about Todd. He has all the tools to be a player. When you watch him, he’s smooth, athletic, good body position, etc.. KJ, Super K, anybody have any scoop outside of opinion and conjecture?

        • Zack says:

I think first team reps would help a lot of these kids. Stoops borrowed principles from chip Kelly this year, I know briles won’t open up practice for stoops but briles says he gives his first and second teams equal reps. It might be a good idea for stoops to visit with Montgomery up in Tulsa and find out what to do with receivers.

        • blaster1371 says:

Personally, I think the commitment to Neal took away some of the chances for us to see what these younger players could do. Neal would show flashes of being real good and then drop three passes in a row. I would like to see what the vibe is with this group in practice. Do they practice like they have a chance to play? With Neal and Shep gone and Baxter not firmly establishing himself, I would think the mindset of this group has to be now or never- either they will step up and get their spot and chances or get passed up by the younger guys coming in this year. You are right about Todd, I don’t know why he hasn’t been out there.

    • DCinAZ says:

      We’ll probably get Quartney Davis.

    • Zack says:

Well I think it’s a little bit of satisfaction with the guys on campus but also finding the right guys to come in and contribute. They have to stop missing on receivers. Also I don’t think they want to ruffle any feathers and cause one or 2 to leave. I think there will be 2 young guys that improve drastically because they will get Shepard and Neal’s reps.

  • John Garner says:

FTR, the TCU comeback in the 2nd half versus Oregon was an amazing effort. A lot of people thought that TCU should not have been admitted to the B12 but they have more than proven themselves. I think that Houston — under Tom Harmon (or is it Herman?) — has as well. The win over FSU was very convincing.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Well, hell let’s just invite schools that will not help our recruiting base. TCU has hurt OU’s recruiting.

    • JD says:

No thanks. We lose recruits to TCU now and already losing them to UH this year ( I wonder if there is promises that they will be in the b12 soon). I would rather get another recruiting ground and another tv market

      • John Garner says:

Good point. Didn’t think of that. I was impressed by their play vs. FSU. I’m not sure it makes a difference, but they’re still going to recruit against us. I guess being in the B12 kind of legitimizes them though. My bad.
