Well, we all kind of figured it was just a matter of time and 2016 ATH Parnell Motley ended whatever suspense there may have been with the following tweet Monday afternoon.
I would like to announce that I'am now committed to Oklahoma University#BOOM!#Boomersooner🔴⚪️ pic.twitter.com/zkhQHyK5xd
— Mot. (@PeeMot11) December 21, 2015
And with that, the Sooners add another talented piece to their 2016 recruiting class. As you’ll see in the film below, Motley is a versatile athlete who has the potential to play on either side of the ball at the next level. Oklahoma has a need at both CB and WR in this class, so this could be a situation where they simply get Motley to campus and let his talent determine where he lines up. Regardless of where he plays, Motley brings a lot to the table and this OU staff recognized that then closed strong flipping him from his previous Maryland commitment.

BOOM!!! Keep em comin!
Is Obi Eboh solid to uterus? Or does OU still have a shot
BOOMER SOONER!!!!!!
What video?
Weird no video will show up even after refreshes in Chrome but it’s there in IE.
Super excited about this kid.
He’s good friends with Abdul Adams too. Can’t hurt…
And we’re going hard after top OT Jauan Williams from the DC area. Motley can help too 🙂
Great get and excellent athlete. Now let the fight begin as to which side of the ball he plays on. What a problem for the OU coaches to have.
I’ve watched his film before and I’m not sure which side I would want him on. Good problem.
Why not both?
Boom!
Heck yeah! His senior film is quite impressive
Boom! Welcome Pee!
Crazy that MARYLAND had him… that dude is talented. I guess it’s not how you start…
I like him at DB, though. Especially if they can get him up and running before Sanchez graduates. Sunderland, Motley, Mbanasor… all really good options but they need to get more depth, which I feel like they already have at WR
He seems to be really, really good on both sides of the ball. Not sure where he plays for us?
I kinda liked him better at WR.
I did too, but then I started to focus on his coverage skills and man does he cover well. He back pedals great and switches his hips like a college player already. Very talented on either side. I expect coaches to fight over him!
I hope he can do some punt returning along with whatever side of scrimmage he ends up on
Looks like he has the skill set to punt return too. Kid does it all well.
He will have to show he can be consistent catching the punts first and foremost. I figured DD would get a shot back there but also remember him fumbling a punt in the spring game
It looked like he had good hands catching kickoffs and punts. Of course he has to show it in practice @ OU before he gets the job. If he redshirts I bet Westbrook gets the job next. We’ll see, but I would be willing to put some money on this kid getting the job when his time comes.
The first clip in that video is of him returning a kickoff for a td – is it too much to hope he does punts as well and we can actually return punts next year?? Pretty please???
BOOOM!!!!

Bedlam 2013… not sure what it says about me that I know that from a 2 second GIF image
It says your a Sooner fan and Blake just threw a fade to Saunders to put us up with under a minute left in the game with Blake coming in third string to drive down the field (or something like that lol)
This is why I come to this site: because I’m not even close to being the only one that knew that (and I knew I wouldn’t be when I commented that).
A lot of my friends wouldn’t have had a clue what game it was, and some wouldn’t have even know what happened in that game if you told them what game it was.
Not here – just plenty of like-minded, die-hard SOONERS
of course thats the GIF i stumble on. That was the single worst game I have ever personally experienced. Totally sums up my life as an OSU fan.
Well, at least your coach is NOT Kliffy (who is NOT a man) and you don’t live in Lubbock (I hope).
Nope, I am a Tulsa native. Pretty pleased with MG as the coach, for the most part.
Haha poor Kyle. I know you come to this site a lot, and that you’re honestly pretty level-headed for a non-Sooner on a Sooner site. But it did make me chuckle when you said it “sums up your life as an OSU fan”.
Haha, forever living by the “always next year…” mantra…
then you know what the re-punt felt like on the good side
I just couldn’t bring myself to respond with it, but EXACTLY.
haha, true that… one of the most wild plays in Bedlam history, top 10…
Bottom 10
Thanks for putting that image in my head. I don’t ever need a reason to drink tonight, but it’s nice to know that I have one now.
Don’t think I’ve commented on anything you’ve said but I will now. OSU has made incredible strides in Football. As a program, your wins under Gundy is one of the best in the country. Get your fans to realize this and fill up the stadium.
If OSU would focus on their games in and out of the conf and not just OU, they would be better off. Stoops says UT is another game that is must win like the other games. I realize it’s UT and we want to win it but it doesn’t kill us if we don’t, may make us better.
OSU has beaten some big time programs. OSU is a good team and continues to gain respect. Fill up your stadium without gimmicks.
go ole miss!!
BS, Hope OSU beats them like TCU did. Hang haf-a-hunard on them.
Of course you always have the option of leaving the ‘dark side’. ; )
I would welcome yOU as a fan, as one of the good guys if only you purge your wardrobe of anything that looks like it belongs in a safety seminar. I would probably spring for a T and a cap in the Crimson shade. yOU seem like an intellegent man, how did yOU get involved in the sheep herding business anyhow?
my wife still gets irritated when I’m able to recall the year of big events in our lives because of certain football games that happened around that time period. Easiest way to remember when we started dating is because I remember her first game was the 2005 KSU game.
That don’t make you a bad guy at all – I do exact same thing. My fiance and I had just started dating 2 weeks before the Bedlam 2013 game. Very easy way to put things in chronological order.
It’s hardly her fault her mother didn’t raise her right. It’s up to you to provide the needed instructions. 🙂
I saw that in the Sugar Bowl
My favorite GIF ever.
Now we’ll need one of Stoops punching out Dabo.
BOOM Pee Mont, please show us some punt return ability.
https://youtu.be/NP6DXoNKITc
That was a great “one liner” movie.
Welcome to OU, Parnell!
This OU fan is looking forward to seeing you have a great career.
Motley commit yet?
You may now speak his name.
Thanks.
good good good keep the booms coming hes got some quickness to him
Think he needs to play in all phases of the game, with that kind of speed.
Will definitely help the team!
They have him listed as a 4.6 guy. Um doesn’t look like that to me.
Click his profile on hudl. I believe that is either the player or his hs coach that updates his profile
That make more sense.
I noticed the same thing. Very, very fast and quick it looks like to me.
Nice! I needed a BOOM. Maybe some of you guys didn’t, but it’s still a working Monday for some of us old…. Well, Monday’s are better with BOOMS.
Every day is better with a BOOM.
Vaguely obscene, but Ima allow it because yes.
You and me both on the working Monday.
What ever happened to Christmas breaks? Can I not just sit around my grandma’s house all of Christmas time – napping, eating whatever delicious food she cooks, and sipping some whiskey like I did when I was 8?????
(ok, the whiskey part didn’t happen then… but that would be my plan now).
Yep. I do remember being 8 or 9 one summer and thinking how awful for my dad that he had to still go to work while we got the summer off from school. I just hope I can retire, live a long time and have that SECOND childhood.
I have to work this week too but next week I have all week off and going to Miami to watch OUr Sooners play in the Orange Bowl. Can’t wait.
Cheer loud, cheer hard
Welcome Mr. Motley – Best football house on all of football street. Just remember to yell “Sooner” back when Billy Sims yells “Boomer” at you.
Because God knows he won’t stop yelling it until you respond…
and there is nothing wrong with that 🙂
Ha! No… but you could tell Bradford was a little annoyed by it at his Heisman ceremony.
Lol. But Sam was nice about it!
It shows that Sooners are ALWAYS Sooners.
Welcome Mr. Motley, to the Sooner Family.
Impressive highlights! BOOM! ! !
BOOM!! Every day is a good day to be a Sooner with a a Boom! Welcome to Sooner Nation, young man!
Ima allow this one, too.
SaWeet!!! Sooner happiness is checking TFB and seeing Denzel go BOOM!!! I like the idea of putting athletes like this guy on the D-side. But I’ll let the coaches figure that out.
from ESPN stats & info, This is you know kinda good!
Oklahoma averaged an eye-popping 8.5 yards per play on first down, as the Sooners averaged 314.7 offensive yards per game on first-down plays alone. The Sooners played ahead of the chains for the majority of the year and did it with balance, averaging 170 rushing yards and 144.67 passing yards per game on first down.
Awesome! Sooners pick up a commitment from a guy that can come in a do something in all three phases…offense, defense and special teams. Find out where he can help out the most and plug him in. Welcome to Sooner Nation Pee Mot!
Can he fair catch?
Somebody finally got around to telling whoever runs Bob’s account about the commitment 🙂
https://twitter.com/OU_CoachStoops/status/679066208998662144
Whoa! I wouldn’t go too strongly associating yourself or OU with Washington DC, Bob.
Whoa! I wouldn’t go too strongly associating yourself or OU with Washington DC, Bob.
After seeing his tape, I’m kinda suprised that he’s not more highly sought after than he is. I was pretty impressed, on all three facets of the game he’s involved with.
For sure! Sooner do about as good a job as any school in finding those hidden gems that others overlook.
I think Nick Satan probably has a 4 star limit on players, don’t even bother me unless he is well known and has a 4 star rating.
Or, whoever Bama is recruiting, the recruiting services automatically rank them 4*. Remember, even though Bama has won NCs (mainly b/c they get an automatic berth in the NC game until we came up with this Final 4 playoff system), and even though OU’s ’11 class was almost nil and like a probation year, Bama only has 4 more players in the pros than OU. They get the media attention b/c ESPN sponsors the SEC, b/c they play on the east coast and people see their games and highlights all day, and b/c they have better athletes than any other SEC school and the SEC is “no-QB-league.” QBs beat good teams. If bama played in the big 12 the last ten years when we had bradford, weeden, mccoy, etc, etc, they’d have had about 2 loses a year in conference.
It used to be the same way with UT. If UT was recruiting them they automatically received 4* and probably 5*. If they’d recruited many, many other players in Texas, they’d received the stars.
I like a quote from Bob Stoops in Dec, 1998, or Jan., 1999, when Al Eschbach was crying crocodile tears about how OU was ruined in recruiting. Bob Stoops called his radio show and said: “There are a lot of good football players out there.” Never will forget that. How else do you explain KSU every two or three years putting a competitive team on the field, or OSU every two out of three years, etc.?
the main difference between OU and the Tulsas, is that OU, OSU, UT, etc, can recruit better linemen. There are lots of skill players out there who are pretty close, but the main difference is that they play with Tulsa-type OL/DL or they play with OU/UT/etc-type OL/DL.
Good post. The one thing I might add is that the big guys also usually have better depth at the skill positions. Where Tulsa may have talented first string WR, but the bigs will have the same quality at first and second string.
very true. good point.
Also, switzer repeatedly said something years ago about the OL–it’s about reps. They may have the ability but they need lots of reps. So, the schools the size of Tulsa can get a decent OLman and by the time he’s a JR/SR he can compete really well against the OUs, but they have a hard time having all five OLmen have experience at the same time. DL is not as hard to learn as OL, and it’s easier to come in and play earlier b/c of talent. I’m not saying there isn’t skill and technique involved on DL, but there’s a lot more to learn and they need many, many reps to be good on the OL. I’d say the OL is the hardest position to come in and play early.
You make some solid points. The most interesting point was the OL disparity between Tulsa, OU, and OSU. If I’m Tulsa, I would start recruiting OLs being recruited by Kansas and Iowa State. That would be an upgrade.
As for the star ratings: if a kid gets extra stars because they are being recruited by Bama, that will prove to be their undoing. They don’t have the horses they think they have. Which, if you ask me, is already starting to rear its ugly head.
As for Bama in Big XII, you’re right there, too. If you dropped Bama in the Big XII right now, they are good for two losses a year. Saban wants people to think he’s changed his style of play, he hasn’t. His team is built to win the SEC.
Give Mike Stoops credit: he has built a team fast enough to win the Big XII and physical enough to beat team like Bama in the CFP.
Very true. I used to hear this “SEC speed,” “SEC strong.” Stupid stuff. If they had to play NFL QBs they’d pick their offenses apart just like they do in the pros against better players. It was just a lie. Complete fantasy.
OU has about as many players in the pros as Bama, and that with the complete failure of the ’11 class. That’s pretty amazing.
I think two years ago was telling. OU scored 45 on Bama w/a FR TK. A&M scored 42 w/Big 12 recruited players. Only two other teams in the SEC scored more than 10 pts on Bama: LSU 17 (wow!), and Auburn 28 in regulation. I think the ’13 OU team was the worst team under Stoops since ’99. If Bama thought OU was a good O that year, they should have faced Baylor! Baylor would have scored 70!
Heck, yeah.
Your right again, Baylor would have easily scored 70 on Bama. And the crazy thing is this: Baylor with it’s suspect defense would have given up 35 to Bama at the most. Bama’s offense does not stress defenses.
I have nothing to support this with but it is my belief that the CFP Committee was protecting Bama. They wanted to give them the best opportunity to advance.
Advance and get beat. Going to be even more humiliating for Bama fans. They can’t claim they weren’t motivated for the championship game. Oh how sweet it will be!
People in both conferences make this claim often and they’re both right. Everyone builds their team to win their conference. Teams that are better at enforcing their will tend to win the national championships. Bama is good at this. Sure, drop us into the SEC and we probably drop a couple because eventually, someone will catch us off rhythm and just steamroll us. Bama would also get ran a couple times a year in the big 12. Problem is, this is such a hypothetical because drop either team into another conference and they’ll adjust immediately in recruiting, and they’ll improve schemes quickly. In other words, Bama would become a big 12 team, and likely a darn good one. As would OU in the SEC. Can you imagine our brand name with the marketing power of the SEC behind us? i know that wasn’t your point, and I’m way overthinking it, but just food for thought.
He had a decent offer list, but the recruitniks aren’t going to go out of their way to rate a guy who is already committed. They also don’t usually know how to rate “athletes” because they aren’t comparing them to others at a position. He’s also from a smaller school which means they are less likely to see him in person since they like to catch multiple players at the same time. Add all of those up and it explains why he may not be as highly sought after despite the good film.
There is something to be said from rating the kids with stars, but sometimes there is something more to be said from doing your own research, getting a feel for what the human inside the helmet is like and then evaluate the athlete fairly by what he can do, rather than by what some “recruitnik” tells yOU.
Probably the best use of the star ratings is as a way to add names to the list for evaluation. Generally speaking, the higher stars are going to be better athletes, but they still need to be evaluated for your particular needs/system. There is a correlation between number of stars and players that make it to the next level, but the correlation is not high enough to have any confidence that any particular player is going to succeed.
Also you need to add their ceiling factor. Some kids are ranked high but they have peaked or hit their ceiling. Some are at a lower star rank but have a much higher ceiling. Those are the ones you want.
You also you have kids with a 5* body and a 1* brain (cough cough Rhett Bomar cough cough).
Rhett was not humble and took advantage of a situation. He’s smart just stupid mistake that he can use in his talks with upcoming recruits. I do think he could’ve been special. Cocky and confident are a fine line and he couldn’t find the line in the sand.
I remember to a certain degree the way Bill King used to explain it as a 5* was a sure bet to be a pro, a 4* would be college starter and would probably become a pro, a 3* would be a pretty good ncaa athlete and some would improve enough to go pro.
I looked at the numbers on that at one point. Less than half of the 5* ended up going pro during the time period I looked at. The percentages are certainly higher than the 4* but that still doesn’t mean they are a lock. Probably 1/5 of the five stars never really contributed.
Part of the problem with stars is what Boom mentioned below. Some HS kids have pretty good coaching and they are near their ceiling. They were really good in HS, but they don’t really get any better in college, however their competition does. Other kids have a lot of talent but not much coaching. They may be lower ranked but have a higher ceiling.
I know you’re right Bob, we have had OUr fill of 5* players, that were not players. My point was how the recruitniks scored them before the college teams got their hands on them. It also shows that the recruitniks are often wrong. I would much rather have a 3* player that improved himself “on the field” to 4-5* on him own merit, rather than taking a 5* that has always been told how great he is and goes to the field with a 1-2* effort.
Offers from Clemson, LSU, Michigan State.
Whole new definition for Motley Crue, I like it a lot!

Getting’ ‘stacked’. Just need to get Kelly in, Bledsoe, Southall, pick up Mique and another DB…then this D class ‘b truly tight.

Not sure I like this ranking system. I find it VERY hard to believe Western Michigan is recruiting better than Texas.
I think it’s hilarious, don’t think it’s accurate…..
You really need to look at stars per recruit if you are going to look at those things. Western Michigan has 26 recruits (more than they can sign) at 2.4 stars per recruit. Texas only has 12 recruits but they are at 3.33 stars per recruit. It’s a really bad way to calculate ratings. You shouldn’t be reward simply because you have more commits.
Exactly right, I believe it is setup in a way where each star rating = a certain point value. Total these point values up and you get an overall team score or ranking. So really you can’t say Western Michigan is pulling in a better class, they just have a higher number of recruits which gives the class more value.
This kid is a walking highlight film. Wonder if he will be given a chance on both sides of the ball?
No. those days are over. Takes too much time learning a position in college.
Never know. I think the possibility would be greater if he were a CB and played just a few offensive snaps, vs the other way around, cuz you’re right, would probably be too hard to be a WR, and only play CB occasion. But if he becomes a DB, then he could easily pick up a few offensive routes/sets.
adoree jackson and jabril peppers say hello
Not saying it won’t happen on some college football team every year but every year fans say this about some player OU is recruiting–that they think they can play both ways for OU.
I’d predict that over the next tens years I’d predict zero players will play both ways for OU, and I will also predict that over the next ten years that there will be fans predicting a certain player will play both ways for OU. And, I doubt Bama, who recruits pretty good players, or any of the top colleges will have anyone play both ways either. A small school, a school with little depth, probably some school will.
It’s just so hard to do. You’d better be a pretty good athlete just to start at OU. And you will work every day all winter, all spring, all summer and fall learning coverages, or being on the O learning routes and getting timing with the QBs. Everybody out there is pretty good too, on both sides.
That would be awesome!
Wow…what an athletic player! #Boom
For real. I don’t know where I would most want to see him play. That speed can be deadly on either side of the ball.
https://twitter.com/SoonerSportsTV/status/679106613538525184
Dangit.
I get a plethora of Fox sports channels, but not FSOK.
I think you can get it on ur PC ET. I’ll look it up, but I think its FoxSports equivalent to WatchESPN.
Forget it, every thing I try sends me off on some endless link chase.
Same here. I wanted to see that. I think they will eventually replay it.
Me too.
They are replaying all the state championship games in order on fcsc
The Katy/Lake Travis game?
Eventually.
Waco v La Vega is on now(Parrish Cobb’s team)
Okay. I’ll check it out. I want to see Cobb play.
I think OU might sign as many as 25 this year, with all of the late attrition.
Commercial break, watching the SciFi classic “I Come In Peace.”
I think this will be an outstanding class when it is all signed and sealed.
When I look at all of the recruits over the past few years, and all of the recruits who are excited to be in Norman, this team will be very good for a very long time.
I agree.
With the success OU is having now, it will pay dividends for years with impressionable young men watching them who want to play football.
An alien, yes. He would inject people with heroin and then drain their pituitary of endorphins to take back to his planet to sell.
https://twitter.com/ChanseSylvie/status/679102935201017856
I really like this young man.
And wolves…
I watched the last quarter of the Bedlam game: I was really impressed with Orso-Bacchus’ speed. That kid is fast. I think they have him listed at 300 lbs.
He will get more reps next year with Tapper leaving…always thought his hs film looked like a poor mans Jordan Philips. Jordan would have been a beast on this dline this year…man, what could have been
