Open Post | Tuesday, December 8th (UPDATE 10:14 am)

Devwah Whaley: Last night 2016 running back, Devwah Whaley decommitted from Georgia. As most of you know, the Sooners were, at one time, heavily involved in Whaley’s recruitment. The Sooners however, recently picked up a commitment from running back, Abdul Adams (Durham, NC). I spoke with a source to find out whether the Sooners will look to get back in the mix with Whaley. I was told that the Sooners, as of now, are not looking to take another running back. – (Super K)

Tramonda Moore: Yesterday, OT/DT Tramonda Moore let me know he will be taking a return visit to Oklahoma this weekend. As you know, Oklahoma is one of Tramonda’s top schools along with Oklahoma State, TCU and Alabama (though some of the folks that were recruiting him at Alabama will be moving on to Georgia and we’ve been told they are still very much interested in Moore). Moore continues to take visits to OU. That can’t be a bad thing. – (Brandon)

– UPDATE (10:05 am): OU’s Baker Mayfield, Sterling Shepard & Zack Sanchez have been named All-Americans (2nd team) by USA Today.

  • Johnny Greenlantern Otis says:

i think whaley burned his bridge to ou and they wont go back down that road no matter how good he is.

    • Tipman says:

I think you’re wrong – I think he told OU that he is a silent UGA commit and we started offering other RBs

    • Daryl says:

I think that is crazy. Now if they are really sold on Adams then yes you move on. If you truly think that Whaley is considerably better then yes you do back down that road. You need talent and just because a kid liked a school and staff more that then gets dismantled is not burning a bridge in my opinion. Obviously it sounds like OU likes Adams but we will see.

    • kt-raida says:

Why do you think he burnt his bridge?

  • Barry Duren says:

Like the Moore news. Any idea on where Whaley ends up? Follows Richt to Miami?

  • Ive heard that Moore probably ends up at JUCO. Any reason to believe that? Also any Velus Jones news?

  • SoonerfanTU says:

Did Moore grow up a fan of OU or OSU? Or somebody else? I know his HS coach is an OSU guy, just wondering if he had a favorite.

  • Randy says:

I still believe OU needs to take another RB in this class. Local kid, 4 star doesn’t matter.
    Next year :
    Perine – JR (draft eligible)
    Mixon – SO (draft eligible)
    Brooks – SR
    Ross – SR
Anderson – RSFR – coming off injury

    • Brian says:

Maybe they feel good about a 2017 RB?

      • Randy says:

        Can’t take that chance..

      • SoonerfanTU says:

Or maybe they feel good that both Perine and Mixon won’t leave early. Wouldn’t shock me if neither left, but Mixon might not get enough carries to be a first round pick with Perine still around.

        • Fear The Magic says:

Mixon will certainly get enough carries for the Scouts to know what kind of talent he has. I dont think that sharing the load with Perine will be an issue. Just to give one example of this Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson. I believe they were both first round draft picks.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

In the same year? I don’t think so. If Perine were to leave early, then Mixon would get a year as the feature back. That would be more comparable to Ingram and Richardson at Bama, right?

          • crazyb says:

Even if Perine doesn’t leave early, Mixon will get a year as the feature back because of his redshirt.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

Yes. I was simply suggesting that even though both are draft eligible after next year, even if Perine left, I would think Mixon would come back for his RS-JR year to be the main guy for a year.

          • crazyb says:

Oh, right. Misinterpreted what you said, my fault.

          • SoonerSpock says:

Yes but each back had a year as the #1 Alabama running back. Ingram was drafted in 2011 and Richardson in 2012. Both in the first round.

    • Tipman says:

We only have ~20 total slots this year. I think we take two next year

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

If both Samaje and Joe declare early that will be an issue. I kinda think Samaje hangs around all 4 years.

      • ccmosaic says:

I believe Samje will be here his entire 4 years and Mixon will not leave until at least after his R-Jr year.

      • SoonerSpock says:

It has been reported in some circles that the NFL is now tracking #carries a RB has in college in projecting his length of career in the NFL and excess # of carries perhaps 700-800 or more could be detrimental to the contract available coming out of college. If this is so it might behoove Samaje leaving early and saving about 250 carries on his ole body.

Mixon on the other hand might not have enough carries for him to project as a #1/#2 round draft choice. He only had 125+/- carries in 2015. Remember Dorial Green-Beckham went in the second round after setting out a year and having off field issues and WR’s generally go much higher in the draft than do RB’s. Prior to his leaving Missouri he was projected as a high round 1 draft choice

It might behoove JM to play his redshirt junior year as the #1 RB and up his draft choice a round or two. If so he would only project to have around 500 carries for his career (125+125+250). Whereas Samaje leaving after his junior year would project to have 750 carries (250 each year) and 1,000 if he stayed for his senior year.

      • soonerthunder says:

I think I’d be surprised if Mixon goes after next year. I think he’d probably want to stay one more year but I don’t know.

    • Zack says:

I think you wait one more year to try to load up on 2 good backs. I do say take a walk on this year if a guy like darran Williams or hogan want to be preferred walk ons.
Running back is the one position that translates immediately between levels of football. Hs-college, college-pro. So if we need to take 2 in 2017 then we should be fine.

    • PLAW0720 says:

I think Samaje goes, but Mixon may be able to improve his draft status and that OL will be downright nasty – maybe better than 08.

      • Randy says:

Then we still need another back we play better with 2 or at least with Perine and Mixon in. As of now it would be Anderson (if he recovers) or A Adams (if he signs, never count on kids until they are on campus).

    • Scott says:

Next years class of RB’s is very special , we should take two next year.

  • PLAW0720 says:

Been waiting for the Moose BOOM, CLICCLAC BOOM, and Velus. BOOM!

  • Brian says:

So official visitors now this weekend are Mique Juarez, Andraez “Greedy” Williams, Jack Jones, and Tramonda Moore? Pretty stout list so far…any other additions?

  • Randy says:

TFB – A idea here while we wait for Dec 31.. Story or profile on the Walk Ons.. Seems like a lot of skill guys were brought in after the Riley hire. WRs, RBs and the 2 QBs (Mayfield angle there somewhere). And I would imagine a lot of them are local kids.

  • Soonerfan24 says:

If you were to make an All-Stoops Team, the best players at each position to play at OU under Stoops, do you think Striker would make the team?

I think Shepard is the only lock from this team with Steven Parker possibly edging in by the end of his career.

    Thoughts?

    • Kevin Burger says:

You can call me crazy, but there’s a strong case to be made for Perine.
3004 yards rushing, with 1 or two games left to go in his second season, and he’s already 10th all time rushing at OU.

    • Zack says:

As far as starters you’re probably right. Although I might take baker over all the quarterbacks, let’s see how the next month goes and then next year but his enthusiasm is what separates him from the rest, since the ability is all about equal.

I know it’s blasphemy but I also say wait and see with Perine. As far as a college player he may be better than AD. I don’t know that AD would have excelled in this style of offense.

    • Wishbone4Life says:

      No the Linebackers would be

Torrance Marshall, Rocky Calmus and Travis Lewis

Only players from this team to make the list would be Shep and Tapper

    • BleedCrimson says:

Mayfield could be on that list.

      • Defend Colfax says:

It’s hard to pass up Heisman winners but if Mayfield can pull a Heupel, there is no way you could sit him.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

Yeah. I love Josh Heupel, but no way you take him over what Baker did this season. And Sam has to be #1.

        • BleedCrimson says:

I love Sam, but Baker brings an energy that fires up everyone around him.

        • Defend Colfax says:

I loved Bradford’s time here but Mayfield has already won more close games. I can’t hate on Braford for not being in that position but he was around 1-3 in games decided by 10 points or less in his time here.

          • Kevin Burger says:

I’m going to give the edge to Bradford right now, but if Baker gets one (preferably two in a row) post season wins, then I’ll make the switch.

Why? Because Baker thrives off of slights. And to further along those lines, it was my honest opinion that he would never play a down at OU when I learned about his transfer. Being wrong feels good.

          • Defend Colfax says:

I’m not saying I’d start Mayfield, I just don’t think I’m starting Sam. I gotta go Heupel. Bradford’s game was a beauty to watch.

          • Fear The Magic says:

Wow I cant believe Rhett Bomar isnt getting any love from you guys.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

Sam QB’d arguably the great college offense ever. That has to mean something. He was also a #1 pick in the NFL draft. I know that doesn’t mean a lot, but I think it factors in.

I will say this, my answer might change if Mayfield has a season next year and/or the year after that that are comparable to this year or better. But Sam’s 2008 was special. Really special.

But either way, I think those are the two OU QB’s you take.

          • Defend Colfax says:

It was, that was the last season I went to most of the games.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Mayfield brings an attitude and a fire to the team that Bradford never really brought. Now I know how competitive Bradford is at all things sports, but that does not always translate into building a fire under every teammates backside. Baker builds that fire. But both are great QB’s for the Sooners.

          • Scott says:

Mayfield all day , he has the better dance moves & talks smack.

    • Tipman says:

If we win a NC and they play well – I would put striker, shep and baker on the list

    • Zack says:

This team has a lot of guys that may be second team all-stoops. I forgot that JT might be making a case as well. If you want the best cover guys I would say JT and strait at corner. Move Colvin to safety with Parker and those might be the 4 best in coverage.

    • Cush Creekmont says:

This team at this moment – Shep. These players possibly after 2 years = Brown and Samia; Mayfield, Perine, Mixon, Parker, J Thomas, Walker.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

thinking of the list, here’s mine

      Offense:

      QB Bradford

      RB Peterson

      RB Murray

      FB Millard

      WR Clayton

      WR Shepard

      WR Broyles

      TE Gresham

      OT T. Williams

      OT J. Brown

      OG D. Joseph

      OG D. Robinson

      C V. Carter

      Defense:

      DT McCoy

      DT Harris

      DE Beal

      DE Cody

      LB Calmus

      LB Lehman

      LB Lofton

      CB Strait

      CB Colvin

      NB S. Parker

      FS Poole

      SS Williams

      • Soonerfan24 says:

Good list. You’d put Poole over Brandon Everage though?

      • Wishbone4Life says:

So Roy and Strait the only players from 2000?????????

        Marshall is the best LB

Q Griffin is the best RB

        Tapper>>>>>>Beal

        Thatcher>>>>>>Parker

        • Soonerfan24 says:

J.T. Thatcher is probably the biggest snub from the 2000 team

          • Wishbone4Life says:

Yeah 2000 had the greatest DBs Roy JT and Strait,

Q is criminally underrated his career was better than AD and his 2002 season was the greatest ever, he carried that offense on his back.

Can’t believe he left out Marshall too. His 2000 season is the greatest of any defensive player in the Stoops era

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Q isn’t better than AD or Demarco. I included 2 Butkus winners and Lofton (who I think is the best Stoops era LB)

          • Wishbone4Life says:

Q was a better college player, AD and Murray never had to carry an offense like Q did in 2002, he should have won Heisman that year

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

He’d be the KR/PR if I included them.

          • Mr. Jones says:

Antonio Perkins may be the best KR/PR we’ve ever had. Would have to be Perkins.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Perk was great no doubt. That’s the beauty of this kind of list. Lots of debate and typically comes down to who fans prefer.

          • Bill Holder says:

Yes, we could be like some teams and have a problem filling the list with good players.

          • Cush Creekmont says:

Perkins is clearly the best PR person. KO return has a little more competition from some different years – including Ross if he stays and breaks out again like last year.

        • Boom says:

Griffin who I like lasted 1 or 2 years in pros. AD? Murray? Best all around LB, I don’t think Marshall would be my #1 choice.

          • Wishbone4Life says:

            Pros don’t matter.

          • Boom says:

They played darn good in college to warrant pro material. I guess the pro scouts wanted the other players but had to settle for OU players who made the pro bowl in the NFL like AD & Murray. If injuries derailed their pro career, I get that but if they couldn’t make a roster, they were good at OU, not great.

        • Mr. Jones says:

Could always just put Thatcher as KR. Special teams wasn’t really addressed yet.

        • Mr. Jones says:

Could always just put Thatcher as KR. Special teams wasn’t really addressed yet.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

          Calmus is there too

      • ccmosaic says:

I would go with Everage over poole, and I would go with Perine over Murray.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

        Pretty good list.

      • soonerborn says:

Most of those boys played together. How did we not win more championships during those days.

      • SoonerGoneEast says:

        I mostly agree. And since you obviously have time on your hands, maybe you could tell us who the assistant coaches on the All-Stoops Team. (-;

      • Hunter Frantz says:

I would have Perine over Murray at Running Back and use Murray like Florida used Percy Harvin.

      • hemisooner says:

great list…I liked Jon Cooper at C and DE Jimmy Wilkerson. FS Tony Jefferson

  • Jason Vos says:

If we aren’t going after a second high profile RB. We should go after like a 3 star, I think we need to take 2 this year. Perine’s cousin comes to mind who is committed to Florida

    • Wishbone4Life says:

Samaje Mixon Anderson Brook and Abdul all on the roster next year we don’t need anymore backs in this class. JK Dobbins is the big fish for the 2017 class that who we should switch our focus to.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

Agreed. We’re just too deep there this year to bring in another body. We can fill any immediate needs next year.

      • Tom Turman says:

Ross could be back next year as well, unless he tranfers. Regardless, we should be extremely deep and talented at RB.

    • Scott says:

Micah Quick can run the ball a little if they ever needed him to play RB

    • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

Why “go after…a 3 star”? As in a 3 star according to whom?

  • Jordan Esco says:

    update added

    • cdzendolet says:

No way Deshaun should be over BM. BM has better stats in virtually every category. DW has a couple better % completions and a bit more running yardage. BM should certainly be first team, in my opinion.

      • Jason Vos says:

We’ll find out whose better in 3 weeks

      • Kevin Burger says:

Really, I’m looking at Coleman over Shepard. When they entered the meat of the schedule, Coleman had 9 total receptions, for 136 yards, and 0 TDs. Shepard had 32 total receptions for 375 yards, and 4 TDs. I know Baylor was having to deal with backup QBs for those games, but Baylor was still averaging 238 yards passing during those games, while OU was averaging 226 yards passing.

Congratulations to Ty! His contributions to this team and its success have been huge as well!

Had the privilege of spending quite a bit of time talking with him and he is a wonderful Christian man. He’s very open about everything, and has some very funny stories to tell. His parents are godly people, and they are die-hard Sooner fans. They raised him right, like we all did our kids, decked out in Sooner attire and sitting before the TV for any Sooner event they could watch in FL. He said he never knew that there was another school or team to pull for in anything.

    • Slim Sooner says:

Sure am proud of Ty and will miss his leadership. He’s a great young man and Sooner for Life.

Congratulations to Baker, Sterling and Zack. They deserve to be All Americans. First team though actually- not second team!

  • Kyle Boone says:

Feel like Whaley is likely leaning towards Texas, although apparently OSU is trying to come at him hard now also…

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

he’s terrible now that OU isn’t after him.

      /s

    • Malicong says:

He would be good at OSU. He could be what Ronald Jones was supposed to be.

      • Kyle Boone says:

probably a more physical back than RJ… but definitely what we need, someone who can make guys miss

    • Slim Sooner says:

Well, since Texsa sucks all the time maybe he gives OSU a look. Who knows about how kids think. He’s a talented guy.

      • Kyle Boone says:

with Chris Warren coming on for Texsa, I cant help but think that gives the Pokies some sort of leg up. The dude would start, but then again, Ronald Jones would have started as a freshman and we see how that went

Congrats Ty Darlington on the Wuerffel Trophy, and Baker, Shep, and Zack on 2nd Team AA

  • KJ1123 says:

Ty may not end up being an All Pro center….but that kids gonna be ok in life. Congrats to him.

  • Malicong says:

Sanchez making 2nd team AA goes to show how far the OU secondary has come. J Thomas was easily the best CB on the team the last half of the season and Stephen Parker has future AA written all over him. If OU can find a better FS and Sanchez returns, it could end up being a very special unit next year.

    • Kevin Burger says:

You’d think a conference that doesn’t play defense wouldn’t have a corner back make 2nd team AA. I mean, if he’s the only good guy out there, just don’t throw his way.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

It also goes to show how much reputation factors in.

I’m not even sure if Sanchez was OU’s best corner this year.

  • KJ1123 says:

I would of thought Sterling would of gotten the nod over Doctson at very least because of the games he missed.

  • Bob Edwards says:

Looks like the B12 is trying to step up their game.

Lots of calls to Wake Forest, Colorado, and Vanderbilt just started.

Still be a massive improvement over some of the teams these teams have been playing.

      • soonerthunder says:

The SEC has those schools rapped up. They either have to play someone better than those schools, Tulsa/Houston/W. Kentucky/etc, or worse like the SEC, Elon/Presbyterian/etc.

    • BleedCrimson says:

      Finally, I like it

    • KatyOUdad says:

Since it does not effect current OOC contracts, BU gets a pass for a few years.

    • Golfluvr13 says:

OU has been doing that for quite some time. About time they made a certain program step up and do the same thing.

      • Recondo says:

Absolutely. OU (Bama, UO, UCLA, FSU, Tenn, tOSU, UM, BYU, ND in Bob Stoops tenure), OSU (FSU, Miss St, Pitt), TCU (Minn, LSU, Arky), KSU (Aub, the U, UCLA, Stanford), TTU (Arky, ASU), WVU (Maryland, LSU, Mizzou, BYU) and UT (BYU, Ole Miss, UCLA, Cal, ND, USC) consistently scheduled tough OOC games. KU…well it’s KU. ISU gets Iowa every year. You guys seeing the one school missing from this list? Yeah, it’s the one destroying our national perception.

        • Jofield says:

Even Kansas has fulfilled this requirement the last two years with Rutgers (B1G) and Duke (ACC). Baylor really is, by far, the worst outlier in this regard.

    • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Baylor will just schedule Wake Forest or something.

      • Recondo says:

Yep. BU will go after the cellar dwellers, schedule a bottom-feeding mid-major, and an FCS. Heck, they might try and schedule Kansas twice to fill the requirement.

    • BigJoeBrown says:

Baylor is wondering what the hell they are going to. They talked a big game about scheduling but somehow never backed it up.

      • Bob Edwards says:

Baylor is on the cusp of fading back into mediocrity. They’ve ridden a wave when both OU and Texas were down. But this year OU is back and the’ve slipped back to fourth behind OU, a OSU team that had a good year, and a TCU team that was decimated by injuries. A couple of finishes like that and their recruiting will start to dip and it’s back to being the old Baylor.

        • Scott says:

I think TCU will be really good next year , Baylor will fall off soon. I see Baylor losing 4 next year.

          • Wilson says:

I don’t believe Baylor will lose 4 next year. in conference? To who? OU, Tex, TCU, OSU? I think that is a stretch… What’s your reasoning?

          • hemisooner says:

TCU and OU. Texsa sucks and OSU couldn’t beat them a 3rd stringer at QB

      • Mr. Jones says:

You can still pencil in their yearly fcs team.

    • diablodejalisco says:

still need two more teams and a CCG or it will be the same every year. we were lucky they didn’t leave us out this year. why can’t the big 12 conference see this?

      • SoonerinLondon says:

        Meh.

Blow up this Titanic of a conference.

        Go West young man…

        …or North.

        • Boom says:

And how many games would you be able to drive to in you lived in Oklahoma. The focus on conferences should be regional.
West? I don’t want to watch games starting at 9:30pm
North? Closest game would be Iowa. Not sure that is ideal.

          • SoonerinLondon says:

            Understood, and I respect that.

            I think:

            1. The Big XII is a weak conference and getting weaker as we consider adding Houston or Memphis or BYU or any other teams of this ilk. As it gets watered-down to get to 12 teams and a playoff, it actually weakens itself and reduces it’s relevance even more.

            2. Super conferences will be the way of the future…five or six 16 team conferences, with each having a CCG and the winners going to a playoff (along with 2-3 at-large invitations). Moving to, or merging conferences with, the Pac or B1G now gets us stabilized and solidifies our position for the future.

            3. Unlike the SEC, both the Pac and B1G offer a competitive level similar to the Big XII, meaning we could legitimately expect to win 9 of 17 conference championships, which would lead to 9 of 17 years in the playoff.

          • Boom says:

Adding more teams would water it down, hmm. So are you saying that by adding Mizzou & ATM to SEC, it bolstered their conference? Let’s look how the other confs bolstered their confs.
            B1G adding Rutgers & Maryland??
            Pac adding Colorado?
Big 12 is a tuff conference and by adding Houston it would benefit the conf regionally, in multiple sports, and keep fertile recruiting grounds.
Super conf’s are a long way off if ever as this is college, not pro football.

          • SoonerinLondon says:

Yes, I think adding Houston, Memphis and BYU water-down the conference. Trading Mizzou, Nebbish and aTm for Houston, Memphis and perhaps BYU is a downgrade, IMO.

Moreover, I think OU is in a stronger, more stable position, in the Pac or B1G.

          • Boom says:

            You don’t get my point.

          • Boom says:

Not every team in a conference is great in football. However, there are other programs too. Hell, why do you thing SEC wanted Kansas??

          • steveinok says:

Three things to consider are facilities, money, geography (market). Any teams the Big 12 brings in become Big 12 teams. They cease to be AAC or whatever. So what can, say, Cincinnati become as a Big 12 team? I would venture to say they migh have a high ceiling. Stay away from Texas. Too many of them already. No one there who can put 40k in a stadium. Can Memphis, Air Force, Colorado St or someone else grow into a Big 12 team if given a chance? That’s the analysis that needs to take place. Else we court Nebraska or Iowa or someone to see if they’d be happier back here. (LHN must become B12N first)

We get too caught up sometimes with who has had recent success.

          • Birddawg says:

I figured 4 super conferences with 16 teams each.
12 game regular season. Play against 7 teams in your division with 5 from the other division. That way you play 75% of your own conference to get nod into CCG
4 conference champs in a 4 team playoff.

          • SoonerinLondon says:

I’m with you, but think in the long run the playoff will be expanded to 8 (although I’d prefer to stay at 4).

If they do expand, I think it is a chance to get most FBS teams into conferences and go to 5-6 super-conferences.

            I certainly wouldn’t want 4 at-large bids, so if we stay with 4 super-conferences, I would want a 4 team playoff.

I’m not a fan of a 6 team playoff format because I don’t like the idea of bye weeks. That is just an excuse to fit more teams into a playoff, which marginalizes CFB, IMO.

          • Birddawg says:

We will see in a few years. I think in 2018 they will have the opportunity to go with a 8 team playoff.

          • Cush Creekmont says:

Evolution is to FOUR super-conferences (72 teams tops because at 64 teams, SOME P5 team or ND would get left out, but 64 is possible if some P5 losers decide the cost is too high). This will likely be near the GOR end dates (2018 to 2020).

When this happens, the 4 super winners AND 4 at-large will play in a field of 8. The money and the temperament will make 8 total teams the preference.

          • SoonerinLondon says:

Hope not. That’s too many at-large bids. The Committee could take the winner and loser of every CCG. I hope that doesn’t happen.

Stay at 4 or expand to at least 5 conferences. The CCG’s would be play-in games anyway, so no need for more than 3 playoff spots if there are 4 conferences and 4 CCGs.

        • Bill Holder says:

I’m not even particular where we go, just go.

      • Kevin Burger says:

I really don’t think adding a CCG will help. There’s no sense in adding another team in Texas, which basically means one division will be OU, OSU, Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, and Baylor. The other division will be Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, West Virginia, and two to be determineds. Which of those teams would make for a compelling championship game contender? The Big 12 would have nothing to gain, but everything to lose from such a match up.

      • SoonerSpock says:

If we kept the league at 10 members and played a round robin with the #1 and #2 team playing for the championship I see no need for 12 teams. We will have played 9 conference games which is more than the ACC, B1G and SEC. And we will play a 13th game on championship weekend. All problems addressed, I think.

Personally I think the above arrangement would be unfair for the team that wins the regular season contest between the top two teams as they would have to go 2-0 to potentially qualify for the CFP while the loser of the regular season game could 1-1 and qualify for the playoffs.

    • paganpink says:

It’s obvious that Briles has deliberately scheduled easy opponents. Why? Because it gives additional weeks of true game time to practice schemes and timing and to introduce new routes, players, coaches, etc. with no danger of losing. He must feel strongly enough about the benefits he derives from early season weak scheduling that it overcomes the down side of being rated lower for poor strength of schedule, and possibly being not selected for Bowl games or playoff positions later in the year.

      • soonerthunder says:

Agreed. They don’t plan to make the playoffs, just win 10 games or more if they can.

          • Cush Creekmont says:

If they are “invited,” I truly want OU to leave this version of the Southwest Conference.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I am right there with you! It’s bad enough with 4 Texsa schools now.

          • Boom says:

After the ruling on January 13 -16th, we will know if the Big 12 expands. Houston is one of the front runners. Big 12 doesn’t want to lose that recruiting base.

    • DrLov says:

Houston will be a good start to the new season. It will showcase OU in a city full of recruits, challenge our team early, and give us exposure to the same offense that we will play against in Ohio State a few weeks later. Of course, I am sure Herman will be sending info. to Urban Meyer as well.

  • Randy says:

I posted this here before the season. Here at the final rankings.

The 4 Things that get OU in the CFP :

    1. Lead the nation in Red Zone Offense (have to have TDs inside the 10). 22

    2. Lead the B12 in rushing (shouldn’t be too difficult). 2

    3. Lead the nation in Sacks (causes TOs, and changes field position). 4

    4. Lead the B12 in Pass Defense (might be 40th in the country but having the best in the B12 will have to be a goal). 1

      recruiting

    • Jofield says:

From a recruiting standpoint they are referring to Houston becoming a bigger fish and challenging for top recruits.

    • STL Sooner says:

I am thinking they are referring to the fact that the two coaches for Houston and FSU might be of interest to Texsa and a&m next year if their current coaches don’t get things turned around in a hurry.

Houston’s QB is a sprinter who can throw the ball. They are a very good team. P5 conference good and would finish near the top 4 or 5 in the Big 12.

        • Recondo says:

Yeah, and the tough part of our schedule is at the front and back which should help with rankings if all goes well. 2017 is going to suck though. We still have tOSU but have to pay UTEP back for the one they helped us out with a few years ago and for some reason scheduled Tulane. I hope they dump Tulane for a better mid-major or an independent (BYU).

        • SoonerMagic76 says:

Yeah our SOS is going to be great. There are 5 times on our schedule currently in the top 20 of the CFP rankings: that’s not shabby, especially when 2 of our 3 non conference games are in that mix.

        • Boom says:

No. Most kids in all states do this now & have for a very long time. For example, my son was born in May. I could’ve been one of the youngest in his grade or one of the oldest. We chose one of the oldest for maturity reasons, not sports.

          • Boom says:

Also, I’ve been coaching youth leagues for 10 years and a lot of kids have birthdays from May till October. Those same kids will turn 19 before and at the beginning of their freshmen year. I would say 3/4 of my players were that way.

    Football Non-Conference Scheduling Requirement Announced
    December 08, 2015

The Big 12 has announced it will require Conference football programs to annually play at least one non-conference game against an autonomy conference institution (ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC, plus Notre Dame).

“Schedule strength is a key component in CFP Selection Committee deliberations,” commented Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. “This move will strengthen the resumes for all Big 12 teams. Coupled with the nine-game full round robin Conference schedule our teams play, it will not only benefit the teams at the top of our standings each season, but will impact the overall strength of the Conference.”

Additionally, no Big 12 program shall play more than one game annually against a non-Football Bowl Subdivision opponent.

This new scheduling requirement does not impact existing non-conference game contracts.

“The rule figures to have the greatest impact on Baylor.

Kansas, which went winless this past season, and Baylor are the only Big 12 schools without a Power 5 nonconference opponent on the schedule for 2016.

Winner of the previous two Big 12 championships, Baylor played SMU, Lamar and Rice this season. The Bears have a home-and-home scheduled with Duke for 2017-18, but no other Power 5 opponent until 2023-24 against Utah. Since Baylor’s schedule is filled out through the next three years, the earliest the Big 12 mandate will affect the Bears will be 2019.”

Saw this on ESPN… http://espn.go.com/blog/colleges/oklahoma/ The part that cracked me up was Baylor. How freakin’ Baylor LOVES thier cupcake OCC schedule. Other than Duke 18′ their next power 5 conference game is Utah in 23′.

      • Hotrod33 says:

They should make Baylor scratch some of those games and play them by 2017. To me Baylor or osu shouldn’t even be considered for the playoffs because of their weak non-conference schedule.

  • BoomerDave says:

I wonder if Tramonda Moore’s HC Rashaun Woods is pressuring Moore towards OSU or if he is letting Moore decide totally by himself?

    • Recondo says:

I had no idea Rashaun Woods was coaching. That dude was a beast in college. I was surprised he busted in the league.

  • Recondo says:

So Billings and Ogbah make AA team. We shut those guys down while Tapper and Walker wrecked BU and OSU. And a LB from Temple got the nod over Striker and/or Bond? I get the Temple kid gets a lot of stops and just won a major award but would he start over Striker or Bond…no. My brain hurts.

    • BoomerDave says:

It’s all about reputation and hype, like SoonerfanTU said below. No way Sanchez deserved AA honors when he wasn’t even the best CB on our team.

    • Maverick says:

C’mon now. Be a little objective. Billings and Ogbah are studs. Striker is a tier below. Bond is solid, but doesn’t get enough snaps to be considered.

      • Recondo says:

I’m not saying highway robbery and I’m ine of the most objective people on any board. Billings is only a stud in the gym. Racking up stats against D2 schools and disappearing against real teams is not AA material. Ogbah is fine but Tapper is just as good. I would have swapped Tapper and Billings. Striker (as a LB) is not a tier below anybody. He would be a star for any team in the country and there is really no argument here. It’s one of the few things every expert in the country agrees with when discussing OU personnel. Bond is a fair point. I was simply pointing to talent, which he has by the truck load.

        • Brien Brown says:

Tapper played well at the end of the season which is what you want, but his slow start probably did him no favors. Also Striker is a hybrid LB compared to the other guys I am guessing

          • Recondo says:

The hybrid thing may have been an issue. I know Tulsa had a TE several years ago who was ineligible for an award because he lined up as an H-back on a certain % of plays.

          • Brien Brown says:

            Garrett Mills most likely.

          • Recondo says:

That’s the one. I couldn’t remember off the top of my head.

          • Brien Brown says:

Mills was a stud, too bad he didn’t make in the NFL but he was a great college player they had a lb during his time as well that was a stud probably could have played for OU even Nick Bunting

          • Recondo says:

Yeah, those TU squads were good. I remember Bunting. I thought Mills got robbed that year.

        • Clint Lenard says:

Are you getting Billings confused with Oakman? Billings is a beast for sure. Oakman is the dude who they make look like a monster in the gym, but rarely shows out in games.

          • Recondo says:

Ok, so let’s compare DTs. Billings- 37 tackles, 5.5 sacks, Strength of Schedule 59. Walker- 36 tackles, 5.5 sacks, Strength of Schedule 3. Billings is not a beast, he is productive and plays inferior opponents.

          • Clint Lenard says:

Don’t get my question twisted, Walker is a man and a future 1st round draft pick, but so is Billings. I think Walker has a better upside, but Walker also has a better line to help him out vs Billings. When teams play Baylor they focus solely on Billings, whereas OU has Tapper, Striker and others.

        • Cush Creekmont says:

Billings is a tough interior DLineman. Oakman is an overrated end rusher. I hope Billings goes to the League.

        • Maverick says:

Agree to disagree. Striker is not elite. He won’t be playing on Sundays for very long if at all. Billings and Tapper don’t play the same position.

      • Brien Brown says:

Take in consideration that Bond did miss like 4 games.

    • Brien Brown says:

Don’t discredit what Matakevich did, he belongs on that list look at his numbers compared to Smith or Raglands and his numbers are better. Plus he may would not start at OU but, we don’t run a typical D, vs what Temple runs and the opposition that they face. Striker does not have a lot TT he does have an impressive number of sacks and hurries but again that is the system he plays in. Get Smith or Ragland off the list before the Matakevich kid. Just saying look at the body of work, I am not sure Ragland would start at OU, now Smith is athletic enough he would fit our system IMO.

      • Recondo says:

I’m fine with that. My first impulse was to throw Ragland out there but I went with Matakevich due to the level of competition in the AAC. Just going on stats is like saying Tommy Chang or Kliff Kingsbury should have won the Heisman and, I admit, I only saw Temple twice this year.

        • Brien Brown says:

Matakevich is a kid like Lehman and Calmus just always in the right spot he also had 4.5 sacks and 5 Ints the other 2 didn’t get any. True he played in a weak conference but did all he could why there and what he was lined up against

          • Recondo says:

And if I’m being totally fair, Temple played a tougher schedule than most mid-majors this year. Memphis, Navy, and Houston were all up this season plus ND.

    • STL Sooner says:

Could we have BACK2BACK BOOMs on the 17th (Mbem-Bosse) and 18th (Daniels)?

      • Slim Sooner says:

        That would absolutely be allowed.

      • Brien Brown says:

At this rate I would take Mbem-Bosse and Kelly as our last 2 LB commits, there is that hope that Juraez would be a Sooner but that is doubtful, however if any staff can pull a fast one it’s the Sooners they usually seem to do so every year.

    • Mike Bray II says:

What do you think our chances are with this guy? Think he could be a very solid addition, if we can get em.

247 Says coaches visited him on the 30th of Nov and he did his official on the 20th of Nov. They have pinned to Auburn, but Idk if that has been updated since Mucshamp left. I think that could play a factor

        • Mike Bray II says:

Geez, I would think it would have to play SOME kind of role. IIRC this kids Twitter was highly pro OU towards the end of November….really like this kids size.. Think he’d be a perfect fit for the future of our D. Big yet kinda rangy. Me likely, me likey lol

        • cpearc00 says:

Yeah, I noticed all of that and I completely agree. It’s just a little odd when his last 50 tweets concern OU. Also, if I’m a highly rated WR, I’m not necessarily interested in Bama’s style of offense.

          • Brien Brown says:

Listed as an athlete, tho looking at his size and his numbers looks like a slot WR for sure and would be a great fit at OU I agree there. Fear is if he gets a little bigger he would be ok, Mean Cooper and Jones went to Bama and people said well why would they go there and low and behold they went to get use to run blocking in the NFL cause they knew 2 things the could catch and could be big time they wanted to prove they could block as well.

I like the idea of making it an art project. I’m going to pass that along to Mrs. Me. Thank you, Finney.

    • Dick Bump says:

We had an advent wreath lighting event each Sunday in Advent. After dinner we would light the appropriate candle(s), read a Christmas related story and then have a special desert treat. It built anticipation and reinforced the reason for the holiday. All of us looked forward and enjoyed it. Some of our fondest memories.

      • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

This year is similar for us: Light the candle, read the corresponding devotional/prayer, and then sing a Christmas hymn. Still, my babies’ eyes have that glazed-over look until we sing. It’s the same look I give my wife on countless occasions. LOL!

    • Lincoln Hawk says:

We have two girls, 3 and 5. We use this tree for the countdown and they each put their pictures in the pouch in whichever day it is. This was a Mrs. Me thing for sure but the girls seem to really like it. I’m sure as they get older it will become a little more complex and spiritual. Hope this helps!

    • Recondo says:

The wife has a nice advent calendar she loads up with stuff for the kids. She puts little candies or toys inside depending on their age/interests. That way it grows with them. They read a Bible passage each day before they are allowed to check the contents for the day.

      • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Thanks, Recondo. Another good idea. We bought a devotional and went with it, but it sounds like going off-script is the best approach given the ages of my babies.

    • Mike Reed says:

From the time my kids were 2 years old until they turned 18 we put up an Advent String outside their bedroom door similar to the one shown. Every morning they would get to find the gift with the corresponding number (date) to open, which helped them count down the days until Christmas. We tried to keep each little gift under $2-$3. Every gift was wrapped so they wouldn’t know what it was until they opened it. My kids loved it and couldn’t wait until their strings were hung each year.

  • Boomer4life says:

Good for the new Big 12 requirement! But why not for the love of everything holy don’t you add another non-con game so we are at least playing during the championship week. I don’t get this lack of constant leadership….from the Big 12 officials.

    • Don Carmichael says:

1 FCS school is still too many.

      • STL Sooner says:

I agree, but it helps those school financially. It would kill them to lose those money making games. Require them to be the 1st game of the year and limit them to only 1. It would benefit the FCS team and be a little like a scrimmage for FBS teams. Just a thought

    • JD says:

I dont think they can add another ooc can they

    • Zack says:

That would look bad on he big 12 to add an extra game and not add 2 teams and a championship game.

    • Don Carmichael says:

How do these work? There’s a 3 star guy above a 4 star guy.

    • RonBurgundy says:

Should I be worried. OU is now in 40 place in recruiting on Rivals?

      • Fear The Magic says:

I wouldnt be too worried at this point. The 40th place is more a reflection on the number of recruits that we have rather than the quality of those recruits. Quality wise we’re quite a bit higher. Since we’ll only be taking about 20 or so recruits in total this year dont expect to finish any higher than #15 if even that high but the good news is that OU always finishes up strongly. In the end I expect us to maybe crack the top ten as far as quality goes.

      • Zack says:

        That’s a joke right?

  • OUn8v says:

Found this on my timeline a few minutes ago. lol

    • paganpink says:

Yes. That is the corrected playoff alignment. It shows the correct national champion in the lower left.

  • Zack says:

    Where’s Stephen? And not dale…

Look at the most recent prediction.

    http://247sports.com/PlayerInstitution/Tyrie-Cleveland-at-Westfield-80198/CurrentExpertPredictions

    • Fear The Magic says:

      Very interesting…

    • EasTex says:

The only thing on that entire page that I understand is “uncommitted.”

      • Recondo says:

        Looked unnecessarily confusing to me.

        • Fear The Magic says:

Not that it means much at this point but Demetric Warrens latest prediction is Cleveland to OU. Take it with a grain of salt but this is the first time Ive seen anyone have us in the lead for him.

      • Zack says:

Maybe it looks entirely different on mobile and desktop. It’s Demetric warren picking ou to land Cleveland.

        • Brien Brown says:

See I didn’t see that it was just showing all A&M

          • Fear The Magic says:

            Scroll to the very bottom

          • Brien Brown says:

I did thanks and seen it and like you said with a grain of salt but, that would be soooooooooooooooo huge!

          • Fear The Magic says:

As huge as it gets. Our biggest need right now IMO

          • Brien Brown says:

For sure 100% mean bring on Velus also mean those 2 would be GREAT. I know people are freaking out about RB but I think we will hit on those next cycle WR’s are a MUST!

          • Fear The Magic says:

You probably saw it but some rumors of Velus to Tennessee

          • Brien Brown says:

Well I have seen those rumors but I was hopeful that was all it was!

          • JD says:

He kinda reminds me of Stills only more raw. Both have speed but you can’t deny Kenny’s route running ability that he no doubt got coached up by his dad growing up

          • Fear The Magic says:

Id take another Stills and call it a day.

          • JD says:

            You and me both!!

          • EasTex says:

            Stills had some hands, too.

          • JD says:

Yeah he had some great hands. As good as he was he couldn’t play Broyles role when he went down though and nobody could play Sheps last year. Hope we have a few reliable guys next year because we have been extremely lucky this year…and that wins championships too!

          • EasTex says:

I am more confident that some of the young guys will produce next year than most here. A Shep or Broyles doesn’t come along every year, but I think we have playmakers on the roster that just need to develop.

          • Brien Brown says:

I have faith in Quick and I think Andrews could be a work in progress still, Westbrook will only get better with another year on the D1 level and same with Baxter he has shown some signs. Never hurts to get a big one tho. We missed out on DGB, Jones, Randle and I get we got Metoyer but mean he was a bust so getting a big one would be great and Stills was a nice get but, he wasn’t a “top 10 wr” according to most

          • JD says:

Kenny was a 5star #9 according to scout…he was right up there with those others..plus we stole him out of SCal to boot..he was a big time get imo

          • Brien Brown says:

            ESPN 4 Star #36 WR
            Rivals 4 Star #23 WR

          • Brien Brown says:

Combine all 4 his average is still a 4 star #20 WR now what he did in his career yea he played like a 5 star

          • JD says:

He was just as big a haul as those other guys DGB Julio and Randle…all stayed home…he was a big time pickup for us…didnt even know 247 was around 5 years ago…when considering an AA you get one source to grant it then you are an AA..Kenney was a top wr in his class beside I think the recruiting rankers are a joke for the most part

          • Brien Brown says:

True and true! Mean a kid like Millard and Flowers have been just as good for us as any other kids that probably had higher rankings and all they did or have done is play ball

          • JD says:

yeah Millard and Flowers are a nice addition to the team…Millard absolutely…that hurdlelevel against texsa is one for the books…Flowers is starting to show his worth with a few clutch plays this year…I think Meier can contribute in a similar way…I even miss Rip…that guy could block! By far the best fb I recall us getting in the Stoops era goes to Perine though lol…like I said those recruiting gurus are idiots sometimes

          • Brien Brown says:

Don’t discredit J.D. Runnels he started that trend of those type guys. I saw some sites that had Perine as nothing more than a FB an dothers that said he could end up being the better of the 2 Rb’s between him and Mixon

          • JD says:

yep…JD was def a player for us..fig he (and Millard) could have done more in the league but I guess fb isn’t really what it use to be

          • Brien Brown says:

            247 4 Star #14 WR

          • Tim A says:

He was fantastic Sooner from freshman year on.

          • EasTex says:

I’m not enamored with stars as much as I am with playmakers. Green, Todd, Mead, McKinney all demonstrated they were playmakers in high school, I expect that many of them will demonstrate that trait at OU.

          • Brien Brown says:

Mead for sure! Perhaps Todd can as well. I think Meier if he is still with the team has the tools to be great

          • JD says:

Meier came in when Flowers pasted out against TCU…#45

          • Tim A says:

What did Flowers do vs TCU – what does your comment mean?

          • JD says:

Flowers had some kind of issue…heard he passed out (i had to spell check)…that whole second half was the worst kinda luck..the D had to fight the football gods off and Parker got the final say

          • JD says:

I actually expected more from him this year…he had a few chances..I expect him to settle down with more reps with the lights on…he had to have shown something in practice to even get his opportunities…the one I remember the most was the jump ball in the ez that he dropped

          • EasTex says:

No one was more disappointed than he and Coach Simmons. First chance at a TD catch and a true freshman, he gets some slack from me.

          • JD says:

Me too…he was the one I was most excited about from last year…well I was pretty excited about DD but hs guy..thought he would contribute early…he will settle down…dif in front of 85k

          • Brien Brown says:

EasTex you are pretty intelligent and on top of things I would be intrigued to see who you think is Stoops best all time team. You have a knack for seeing talent and making good points so I think your team would be intriguing.

          • EasTex says:

I really don’t have time to get into things like that. Appreciate the kind words, though.

          • Brien Brown says:

No worries and thanks for the insight though and the quick ideas!

          • JD says:

I am as well…we have some guys that I’m looking forward to stepping up next year…a guy like Cleveland or Jones can really add something with that speed…on STs as well…still waiting on that next PR star

        • EasTex says:

I only access TFB on my PC.
What I’m saying is, all these alleged experts can say what they want, their percentages are all over the place, but the only thing that actually means anything when all that data is compiled is…he is “uncommitted.”
One of those guys flinging pasta at the wall will have it stick, that won’t make them some kind of guru, in my mind.

          • Zack says:

It was just more of who not what they were saying. Warren is about the best at predicting commitments, he still is wrong 33% of the time, so like you said there’s nothing to feel good about until a commitment is made to the good guys.

          • BleedCrimson says:

Until they sign on the dotted line, it does not matter what we think. I get that folks want to be the first to predict what an 18 year old kid is thinking or intends to do. However, most 18 year old kids, unless they have had a dream to play at a particular school, they are trying to figure “it” out up to the last second. We have seen flips go both for and against us. I believe this coaching staff is stacked with good, honest, and well spoken guys that show they care about the kids that they bring on campus. I do not think that can be simulated. Plus to the Sooner crew.

    • Brien Brown says:

Why does this matter cause I didn’t see OU anywhere on that list and it would make sense for him to consider A&M

      • Zack says:

It seems like he’s very much open to playing almost anywhere but he’s the one who wanted Oliver to visit ou with him. I think if Reynolds could somehow get Oliver to flip then I think there would be no doubt Cleveland follows. However I think Oliver is very sold on Houston.

        • Brien Brown says:

For sure I agree 100% and I don’t think they are a package deal like many have said. I think Clevland obviously could play and have an impact at Houston as much so as OU it’s just the fan in us that want that team to be OU! No doubt both look good enough on film that they could eventually have an impact at OU

    • CrimsonNative says:

Houston looks like the team to beat.

  • Nathan Crowell says:

I know it’s not been broght up in this open post, but it pisses me off every time the topic of how not having a championship game is mentioned. The double standard is beyond hypocritical. The weight of not having one the past two years and in the Heisman polling this year is asinine. Where was the quibble with it when USC was playing for BSC Championships and when their players were Heisman finalists? I distinctly remember when Stoops and others were chastised for saying that if one conference had a championship game, that all conference should have one.. If I remember correctly, they were dismissed as just being ass hurt. Now it’s just verbal ammunition for the talking heads to continue to put the Big 12. Ok… I’m over it now. Maybe.

  • Boomer4life says:
