Open Post | Weekend, Dec. 4th – 6th (UPDATE Sat., 10:07 am)

Levi Draper: Okay, we told you to keep on eye on this one and for good reason. Draper announced his decommitment from Oklahoma State yesterday, and TFB will be on hand for Collinsville’s game against Altus for the 5A state tittle. The game is in Yukon at 1pm if anyone wants to come out.

After the game Draper will announce his commitment, and we will have it for you here on the site. So look for that sometime late afternoon, early evening on Saturday.

As for why he decommitted? Draper said, “ I loved Coach Spencer and Mike Gundy, but I just didn’t see myself spending the next five years at OSU.” I get the sense from Draper that decommitting was understandably a very difficult decision. Draper said coach Spencer made it clear he isn’t done recruiting him and, in fact, is planning to stop by Collinsville today.

On the OU front, Mike Stoops and Tim Kish will be in attendance for his game on Saturday. – (Brandon)

Sci Martin: I caught up with Oklahoma 2016 DE target and recent official visitor Sci Martin (New Orleans, LA), who said he is expecting OU coaches to drop by and see him (and DT Stephon Taylor) soon. However, Martin will be in Fort Worth this weekend for an official visit to check out TCU.

In speaking with a source, I was told Martin is TCU’s to lose right now. So it sounds like the Sooners are sitting in, at best, second place right now. – (Super K)

Jordan Parker: 2016 defensive back commit Jordan Parker (Pittsburg, CA) was visited by DBs coach Kerry Cooks last Sunday. Parker said the visit went extremely well, and he cannot wait to get to Norman. Parker is somewhat of a vocal guy for OU, and both he & Chanse Sylvie have been Twitter recruiters for a while. Parker will get his in-home with Bob Stoops sometime in January. – (Brandon)

Lincoln Riley: No real breaking news here, just wanted to mention that folks I know out in SEC country — who are fairly well connected — feel pretty strongly the new South Carolina head coach will be someone other than Lincoln Riley. Obviously these people are not decision makers so nothing is certain at the time of this story, but it seems the common theme from folks I talked to is that Riley is viewed as just too young right now.

Having said that, this morning East Carolina let go of HC Ruffin McNeill. No word yet on whether Riley is a candidate but we will obviously be watching for this. – (Super K)

How crazy would it be for OU to land 3 of Californias top LBs in Kelly Youngquist and Juarez? I think Juarez is less likely than Kelly but still that would be big.

Kyle whats your take on reindeer’s?

      • Kyle Boone says:

the quarterback or the creepy fan?

        • metzker says:

Just funnin the fan of course

          • Kyle Boone says:

haha, I thought it was pretty funny. the poor kid probably had no idea what it looked like…

          • Rick says:

            Maybe, or…….

            dont say it 😉

          • Drew says:

            I would definitely take “or”.

          • SamSooner says:

Maybe so but there are things adults should never do in private, even more so publicly.

          • Kyle Boone says:

ehh, it only looked inappropriate when he was riled up and cheering. But I dont think we will see that outfit ever again.

          • Rick says:

Every fan base has their weirdos, it goes with the territory. Last night there was some OSU fan that (verbally) attacked Draper on Twitter. In my books a creep like him goes way beyond creepy, he almost seemed dangerous. The reindeer rider doesn’t even hold a candle to this nutcase.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

That dude was a complete jerk. He was hoping Draper tears his ACL. I have never wished an injury on anyone, and I have torn my ACL, it’s not a fun process.

          • Rick says:

He was absolutely SICK. His twitter page is really sick also. What he did and said should be illegal, especially with a what, 16 year old kid. I would absolutely feel the same way if he were an OU fan. Total idiot.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I agree with you and if I read correctly, Draper’s father said something to the guy. At least that was the impression I received. Something about meeting behind a barn somewhere to have a “talk”. I would like to be there for that!

          • Kyle Boone says:

If it was the guy with the “pornhub” link in his twitter, I am no 100% sure he is an OSU fan – rather some troll unloading on Draper. But sheesh, if hes an OSU fan, I cant claim him

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Yep it was that guy. He was a complete jerk.

          • Rick says:

Like I said, I wouldn’t feel any different if he were an OU fan. I get pissed at OUr fan base when they take it out on a decommit, there is no excuse for that. This tool was a genuine nutcase.

          • Kyle Boone says:

            agreeed

          • Kyle Boone says:

it’s funny how recruiting can bring out the best (and worst) in every fanbase, though. It really should not get to that point. And just think, ten years ago, this was virtually non-existent. So much info spread by social media nowadays

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

That whole thing was just terrible.

          • SamSooner says:

He was going all “gusto” on that deer. I’m sure some poor custodian cleaned up some cotton. I was looking for the eyes to the back of the head that signals ecstasy. That looked erotic and I suspect he smelled of coitus to the fans nearby.

          • metzker says:

            LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

          • SamSooner says:

He was committed. Maybe Gundy should offer him.

          • metzker says:

            Your killing me Sam

          • SamSooner says:

Maybe a partial scholarship. There will be a need to repair the bricks he knocked out of the wall. I don’t mean by using that paddle, either. Do you follow me? I’m sure he was as sore as that deer.

          • metzker says:

            stopppppppp your hurting my gut

          • SamSooner says:

          • metzker says:

            lmaooooooooo

          • Golfluvr13 says:

LOL! Ok, that one got a big chuckle out of me.

          • Rick says:

He already has his own shoulder pads, could be a money saving item for TBP.

          • MoJoOkie says:

He seems to have aggressive tendencies. Might be a good get.

          • Kyle Boone says:

who do you all want to play in the playoffs? bama or clemson?

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I think OU would like a chance at redemption with Clemson. I personally would love to shut up the overrated Bama folks and those people screaming how great the $ec is.

          • Kyle Boone says:

I suppose you all could play BOTH teams, if all goes well.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

That would be preferable to me. LOL

          • Kyle Boone says:

Although it would definitely hurt my teams recruiting (even more), im definitely pulling for em. I think they have as good a shot as any

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I have several friends that are Poke fans. They hate it when I root for their team. LOL But I do when they are playing out of conference and against the shorthorns and Baylor.

          • metzker says:

            Both any order

      • Kyle Boone says:

the quarterback or the creepy fan?

    • SamSooner says:

Kyle, welcome back. That was a tough loss for the Cowboys last week. What’s been the general mood of the team?

      • Kyle Boone says:

Tough to watch (for me). Overall they are in good spirits, although Rudolph’s injury puts a bleak outlook on the upcoming bowl game. Great season that ended in disappointing fashion, but I think they are keeping a good perspective

        • SamSooner says:

Well, I hope Rudolph recovers quickly.

Teasing you here: they flexed first and it was annoying; OU flexed and, well, you know.

          • Rick says:

Never want to see a player get “really” hurt. I laugh a little when certain coaches get run over during the play, but not the kids.

          • Rick says:

          • Kyle Boone says:

            define “flexed”…

and no doubt I can’t be mad as a fan, OU was clearly the better team. Not sure if a healthy Rudolph would have much of a difference. Our defense was pathetic, gassed or not.

          • Hi5s4OU says:

Rudolph was confused. He was playing the role of a misfit toy

        • Exiled In Ohio says:

Team’s pretty young, isn’t it? Wasn’t this to be a rebuilding year? I would think your optimism would be high for next year.

          • Kyle Boone says:

Relatively young, yes. Optimism still about the same, given the blown opportunity they had. But they have a lot of RS Freshmen who should be pretty good next year. Replacing Ogbah will be hard….

          • Exiled In Ohio says:

That’s what we thought about Phillips last year and Striker this year. But the young kids always step up!

          • Kyle Boone says:

yeah, definitely. Walker and Tapper are beasts, though. We had a pretty solid 2014 defensive recruiting class. Lot of talent at LB and DE should be on the field next year, which is nice. Now if we could just get an OL…

          • Golfluvr13 says:

What is their outlook on RB’s? Did not seem to run the ball well this year, or was that an o-line issue?

          • Kyle Boone says:

yeah, 18 returning starters. but some of those starts, probably wont be starters.

RB outlook — Chris Carson, Rennie Childs, Jeff Carr all returning. Likely that order on the depth chart.

We have Justice Hill (Booker T.) coming in, and LaDarren Brown (Desoto) also coming in. Brown likely redshirt (small scatback), Hill may play if he can get some weight on.

It was an OL/RB problem. Carson ran scared most of the year (his first year at D1 level) but he was a top 100 recruit last year. Think he will be much better next year. We had Ronald Jones committed until last December, then he hopped ship and went to USC. Now hes leading USC in rushing.

          • Rick says:

You guys are returning what? 18 starters next year anyway.

        • Golfluvr13 says:

I hope he has a speedy and full recovery. I never wish injuries on any kids.

          • Kyle Boone says:

word on the street is it was a jones fracture. luckily has all offseason to recover.

Also, keep an eye on Mason Rudolphs younger brother. Stud DE/TE from Rock Hill. has offers from a lot of big time schools. 2017 prospect.

If interested, Fox Sports SW is showing the 4th round playoff game between Katy and Manvel tonight at 7pm. A lot of D1 talent on both teams.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Any of them considering following Dimon and Anderson to OU?

    • EasTex says:

Wish I could see it, the Dallas market, as always, shows the Mavericks when they are playing. None of the other channels on my sports package are showing it, but I will get the Jenks-Broken Arrow game.
Pulling for Katy, but sure wish the Elliott kid from Manvel would come to OU.

*Edit: thinking of a Westfield player, Oliver…my bad

He’d never go back EC. LR is looking to be a big fish in a giant ocean.

  • Rick says:

I was pretty sure LR would not consider the ECU position, but after seeing this I’m 100% sure he wouldn’t answer the phone, and any other candidate would be an idiot to do so also.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

ECU thinks they are a big time program, and they are a really good non P5 team but this is just a bad move.

      • Rick says:

Big or small program, I do admire the coach for sticking to his guns. Most of the twitter chatter, pretty well supports the thought that he will end up in a better situation very shortly than he was in at ECU.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

Ruffin is a good coach. He won’t be unemployed long.

        • SoonerfanTU says:

Would you have felt the same way had Stoops kept Josh on staff for this season?

          • Rick says:

Good question, but I still do admire the loyalty.

          • Recondo says:

There a couple of significant differences. First, JH’s offenses had been in decline for years. Second, he was a good QB and position coach but had difficulties managing his offense in-game and seemed to struggle in recruiting (others here would know about this much better than me). Third, OU is built for championships. ECU is built to show up regularly in low end bowl games and pull the occasional upset. McNeil did great things with that program.

          • JD says:

If Bob wanted it that way…you can’t micro manage a staff..hire a coach and let him do it

    • paganpink says:

DUDE LOOKS LIKE A PIRATE! Needs to check with Mike Leach ASAP! He’ll give him a job and an Arghhh!

  • Tipman says:

East Carolina: ESPN’s Joe Schad notes three possible names for ECU include Middle Tennessee head coach Rick Stockstill, NC State offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach Matt Canada and Northern Illinois head coach Rod Carey.

    phewwww

    • Recondo says:

Doesn’t impact us but I don’t get why ECU got rid of ol’ Ruffin. He was a good fit for the program and won a bunch of football games. I think he got as much out of that program as anyone can.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Is it just my brain being overactive or is it weird that ECU waits until after a lot of the FBS jobs were filled to fire McNeil?

This a prediction? or who you want to win? Cuz I’m shocked you want Bama to win.

      • Zack says:

I want bama, Michigan state and Clemson to win. I hope we draw Clemson first and right that wrong from last year. Then play bama for all the marbles and watch their excuses after getting blown out again by a team with Trevor knight on the roster.

    • rainydaze114 says:

None of this matters to me. OU is in, that’s all that matters.

  • sooner4ever says:

I sure Hope Riley sticks around for one more year. The offense next year, minus Shepard, Neal, and a couple of others, should be even better than it is this year, and it will only enhance his resume.

    • Daddy R says:

If you wanna be a big boy, you gotta beat the big boys.

      BOOOOOOMER!

      • Rick says:

Nova would be a big boost. One poll has OU higher the other poll has Nova higher, should be a great game. I’m actually quite shocked, this game is not one of the marque games for ESPiN monday night. It is on FS1.

        • Daddy R says:

What!? wow. I totally thought that was going to be an espn Big Monday game. Why the hell is it not? Surely there is not a better game that night?

Yea, the polls have both teams up this year, I was just thinking “Big Boy” as in historically.. A win against NOVA is big, almost any year.

  • Cush Creekmont says:

I’ll probably watch some of “those playoff games,” but I will be just waiting around for some BOOMS.

  • KJ1123 says:

Bronco Mendenhall to Virigina, that’s interesting.

    • Zack says:

Byu coach takes a job at Virginia and yet everyone thinks the big 12 should add byu…

      • KJ1123 says:

BYU wouldn’t be on my list to join the B12. I thought Bronco would never leave BYU. There have been alot of job openings since he’s been there.

        • Daddy R says:

Mine either. He was there 11 years… But, he did say he wanted them in a P5 soon, and its probably apparent to him thats not happening.

Virginia to the Big 12! lol

          • Recondo says:

That’s a joke now but the UVa alumni have deep pockets and is situated in a nice market with good recruits. If Bronco gets them winning consistently the boosters will pour the money in. It could be a very attractive program for expansion in 5 years.

          • Daddy R says:

I actually wouldn’t mind to see it. I like Virginia. Wouldn’t mind taking both Virginia schools from them! lol

        • Zack says:

And Virginia is kind of a step down. Yes it’s in a real (weak) conference and in a good recruiting area but I don’t see that as a better job.

          • Daddy R says:

I do. I think Virginia could do really well with the right coach, and challenge for the ACC. It might be a weak P5, but it’ll still get ya to the playoffs.

EDIT: Plus their stadium is cool. Small, but cool.

          • Zack says:

Could be with the right coach but they’ve got a lot of power schools in that area that recruit well. He’s got to get the tide turned quick if he wants to make them a contender.

          • AdamsHall says:

I have not been to that stadium in a while, but I don’t recall anything extraordinary. However, UVA’s campus is very, very cool.

          • Daddy R says:

I’ve never been, but have always liked the white pillars. Though it makes it look really cool.

          • Rick says:

I think you’re right Zack. BYU is in a pretty good market, Logan down to Provo is a pretty good population base, I don’t think Virginia probably has that type of fan base, but it is in a conference.

          • SamSooner says:

Don’t be fooled. That area has a lot of good recruits.

          • Recondo says:

UVa has a similar problem to Northwestern and Stanford. Their academic standards eliminate many recruits. Bronco would do well to model that rebuilding job (is it rebuilding if they were never any good?) on what Harbaugh did out West.

        • Recondo says:

I was surprised. I thought Bronco was at BYU for the long haul. If I were a coach BYU would be more attractive than most jobs out there, to include SC in many ways. As far as expansion, I liked BYU before but not now due to geography. Of course, expansion is irrelevant if we make a run.

      • Daddy R says:

By everyone, do you mean everyone? 😉

    • Daddy R says:

      Just saw that…

    • Rick says:

Thats a pretty amazing name, if he weren’t a FB coach, one could almost surmise that he was a rodeo champion.

    • KJ1123 says:

This is turning out to be the worst kept secret….sorry dont mean to jinx it.

      • thebigdroot says:

LOL I attached the wrong link at first. This is the BIG XII trophy. Sorry about that.

      • Daddy R says:

How crazy would it be if Draper was playing everybody, and decided to re-commit to little brother on the TFB exclusive! HA!

I have NO thoughts of this actually happening, but would be kind of funny.

        • KJ1123 says:

That would be funny, Bedlam was huge, just watching how we took it to their defense was enough to decommit. The media wanted to say oh OU hasnt played a starting QB…or this or that…the fact is…aside from when Baker went out against TCU…we made their highly ranked teams look average. Period. And if Bama gets us next well then, they’ll get to see if first hand too.

          • rphokc says:

fact is, ou got a major break not having to play the starting qb’s for the ‘gauntlet 3’………

          • JB says:

Agreed on playing Baylor’s 2nd team QB. I only agree on TCU for the 2nd half without Mayfield in the game. We were 4 pts away from beating a better TCU team last yr in Fart Worth with TK9. If Mayfield played the whole game and so did Boykin, OU wins by more than 1 point. Had Baker stayed in the 2nd half without Boykin, OU wins by 3 TDs.

Absolutely disagree on oSu. Walsh is more complicated to defend than Rudolph. Rudolph is one dimensional and throws a fair number of picks. I’d pick the same score or worse if Rudolph played the entire game.

      • Daddy R says:

I’m not really certain its supposed to be a secret at this point..

      • soonerthunder says:

I bet all those people who committed hari kari earlier this year over Draper wish they hadn’t now, or would have wished they hadn’t if they were still alive. Of course if he doesn’t announce OU tomorrow, hoards others will ill-advisedly follow those earlier suicides. A program like OU does hang or fall on ANY one player. In basketball, that’s another sport, another story.

    • Cush Creekmont says:

Yep. And we are awaiting some more. I hope the new stadium expansion includes putting up all those NC dates. You know like 1950, and all those in between 2015.

      • KJ1123 says:

Cant wait to see the new upgrades….I hope Nike pours some money into it.

      • Fear The Magic says:

Maybe we should use the A&M NC titles school of thought in which case we can claim like 300 NCs. That could decorate the whole North side of the stadium.

    • KJ1123 says:

OMG now I see the B12 trophy….im confused now

“But I just didn’t see myself spending the next five years at OSU”. That about sums it up, who would?

    • Cush Creekmont says:

After that game and “the reindeer,” I expect a lot of kids have said that this week.

    • Clint Lenard says:

I’m sure seeing fans (once again) trying to trip an OU player in the endzone and fans throwing garbage at OU players was enough for the kid. Every fanbase has trashy fans, but theirs seems to be a bit larger…

      • KJ1123 says:

That’s just poor. It’s like them saying “We’re awesome and are ranked high and you guys just kicked our a$$e$ and we’re tired of being little brothers and you made us look like crap!” Gotta win classy and lose classy.

  • Jason Vos says:

I think Riley stays one more year at least simply because he knows he has Baker Mayfield for at least another season

  • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

    –UPDATE (5:43 pm): No update.

  • Brien Brown says:

I know we are still all excited about this season and all and the recruiting year still has a few more months but have you all seen the list for next season? Despite Draper who we all believe will commit tomorrow we have Chris Robinson and Robert Barnes both committed and look to be highly ranked recruits heading into next season. But you have kids like Anthony Hines, Chaz Ah You, Tylan Wallace, Tre Brown, Charleston Rambo, and Quindon Lewis that all ssem to be high on OU already and are all ranked highly in next years class. Then kids like J.K. Dobbins, Joseph Lewis, Wyatt Davis, Tyrese Robinson, A.J. Epenesa, Haskell Garrett a Bishop Gorman kid for what it’s worth, Bruce Jordan-Swelling, Jaylon Reed, Isaiah Pryor who is an tOSU commit but a kid I know OU likes a lot, and Jeffrey Okudah are all names to keep an eye on. Plus we all expect big things next season as well on the field. Sorry I am nerd when it comes to recruiting.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Jenks/Broken Arrow kicking off in about an hour. Rowdy Frederick is the only player I know to watch for BA.

  • Brien Brown says:

Have a goodnight Gentleman and any ladies that may pop in, heading to the Jenks-BA state title game, may hit up the Collinsville game tomorrow not sure yet tho stay warm and safe my friends!

  • Zack says:

After Saturday I think our 2017 class will be well on its way to a top 10 or even 5 class.

  • BleedCrimson says:

Wow, what a start for Jenks.

  • Okie403 says:

More details on ba/jenks updates. Trying to keep while announcing high school banal game

  • Okie403 says:

    Thx. Keep em coming

  • Jed says:

Anybody got advice on buying tickets to the playoff game(s)?

  • BleedCrimson says:

    Jenks 13 – BA 7

  • BleedCrimson says:

Good to see BA get back into the game. Nice pass and catch for the long TD.

  • BleedCrimson says:

Nice TD by BA. Jenks up 16-14 42 seconds left in the half

  • EasTex says:

    The plot thickens.

  • Brien Brown says:

Idk if it’s been posted but looks like Stoops will be at the Collinsville game tomorrow as well.

  • Brien Brown says:

    JENKS vs BA game

    • Sooner Ray says:

It’s a shame two high schools can fill that stadium better than a college team can. SMH.

  • KatyOUdad says:

From Houston, Katy up 28-10 vs Manvel. Almost halftime. Katy RB Porter scored all 4 TDs.

  • Budbarrybob Budbarrybob says:

So is Jim Nantz the new Brian Williams. He is promoting the sez championship as the biggest game in the best conference… lmao.. the gaytors are almost a 3 TD underdog

    • Zack says:

On cbs? That’s their motto. “Best game from the best conference”

      • Budbarrybob Budbarrybob says:

Yep. We have all been worn down to accept this propaganda on espin and the cbs college football talking heads, but to hear jim nantz promo it during a nationally televised NFL game is absurd, especially this season.

To put it into perspective, according to the odds, Vegas views the sez championship mostly the same as 4losstexass v. baylor today. Does jim nantz also view this as the best game?

  • Rick says:

I didn’t know if you guys had an opportunity to see this story. I loved it! and SIAP, but thought I would share a pretty good story https://twitter.com/SInow/status/672969917587693568

  • EasTex says:

Big time hustle for the Jenks defense there.

  • BleedCrimson says:

Wow, can not do that inside the 5.

  • EasTex says:

I find it difficult to believe that out of a 128 man roster Jenks can’t find a punter.

  • Sooner Ray says:

That Rowdy Frederick is a big boy.

  • Sooner Ray says:

That Rowdy Frederick is a big boy.

  • BleedCrimson says:

Did not realize that PI was not an automatic first down in HS Football.

    • EasTex says:

      Nope, yards only.

      • BleedCrimson says:

I am thinking that needs to change. I realize that in this case the penalty was questionable, however if the play had been completed it would easily have been a first down.

  • Jason Vos says:

    Meanwhile somewhere in Stillwater http://i.imgur.com/XwgFXaY.gif

  • Okie403 says:

    Score?

  • EasTex says:

Didn’t think BA would punt there.

  • Sooner Ray says:

I will say this….the BA defense will flat hit you hard.

  • SoonerGoneEast says:

    Just crushing. Absolutely crushing.

  • SoonerGoneEast says:

    Just crushing. Absolutely crushing.

  • BleedCrimson says:

To me, Offsides on the Defense is the most inexcusable penalty there is.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Wow, three state titles for the Jenks QB.

    • EasTex says:

And he didn’t look anything like Kyler Murray.

      • Sooner Ray says:

All he has ever done is win, isn’t a big time recruit.

        • Boom says:

For the most part he had a ton of time to throw. OL did their job. BA dropped several ints that were bad passes. Jenks QB got away with several iffy throws. Made the big ones when it counted.

    • CKill1 says:

Who is he and where is he going to college?

      • Sooner Ray says:

Cooper Nunley and he has been nothing but a winner but is under sized and not heavily recruited. Reminds me of this other guy that no one has heard of….Baker Mayfield. 🙂

        • EasTex says:

          At 5’11” 185lbs he won’t get any P5 offers.

          • Sooner Ray says:

I know, that’s why I made the Baker reference. He will walk on somewhere and win.

          • EasTex says:

Doubt it will be a P5 school, though. It’s hard enough for a 6’1″ QB like Baker to see over the line.

        • Lane Gilstrap says:

He under threw balls all night. If the coverage was even mediocre those passes would have been picked off or deflected.

          • Sooner Ray says:

I never said he was a five star QB, he just wins and has 3 state titles under his belt. lol.

          • Lane Gilstrap says:

I never said he was a five star qb either. Jenks always wins. What I’m saying is imo he doesn’t look good enough to play qb at the next level.

          • Sooner Ray says:

NFL no, P5 unlikely, but he could play at a few colleges. I didn’t make the Baker reference to mean he would be going to NY some day for a trophy, I just meant he is a gamer who isn’t getting respect in HS.

    • Boom says:

Congrats to jenks. BA made to many mistakes. Jenks took control in 2nd half.

      • EasTex says:

That long 3rd down pass from deep in their own territory seemed to give Jenks a surge and deflated BA.

        • Boom says:

When BA couldn’t get the ball in the EZ then fumbled was the dagger. Horrible play calling on the goal line for BA IMO. Put QB in bad position for 3 rd down. Felt bad for QB as he had been running for his life most plays.

      • Sooner Ray says:

BA had the players to take it, just made too many errors and a team like Jenks will make you pay.

  • EasTex says:

What kind of Houdini sleight of hand was that? Even in the replay I couldn’t tell how #18 got the ball. Fumblerooski?

  • William Ryan says:

Me and a buddy was chatting after work and became enanmored that this title run was a little errie similar to the run in 2000. Now before I get hammered for this think about the similarities… preseason rankings 19, gutsy qb that brought his A game when it mattered most, displaying tremendous leadership and play making ability. Great running game behind a no name offence line. Defence led by a outstanding, trash talking (backed it up!) Lb group, play making dbs and a solid dl….

    • EasTex says:

      Glad you finally noticed. 🙂

      • William Ryan says:

The one loss was what we needed and unlike the team in 2000 I don’t think it would of been offered the same forgiveness in the current system this team is reaping based off the recent and current success.

      • William Ryan says:

What is more surprising is how both teams kind or came out of no where.. With limited expectations yet quietly grew into a monster nobody wants to play.

        • EasTex says:

I have always liked this team, the coaches and the players. The only thing I couldn’t tell until it showed up was that “championship chemistry.”
If they continue to play up to their capabilities they bring home #8.

          • Sooner Ray says:

At this point in the season, this team’s biggest hurdle is itself.

          • EasTex says:

Striker said in an interview on Monday that there were many “unreported” injuries for players that no one knew about. I took that to mean nothing that would prevent them from playing, just nagging injuries from the grind. Glad they had this week off for the guys to heal up, stay in shape and work on their term papers and prep for finals. They will know Sunday who and where their semi is, just in time to start practice and game prep.
All indications are that this is a special year and a special team.

          • Sooner Ray says:

With the back loaded schedule with no break, I imagine there are many bruises and strains that could use some healing time. Hopefully we will be fresh and ready to fight again soon.

          • William Ryan says:

In the old big 12 we would of had a game this weekend against most likely lOSUer state in the big 12 title game.. glad we avoided that nothing good could come from it nightmare…

          • Sooner Ray says:

We get to do that on this weekend next year.

          • EasTex says:

The last few years we had last week off and played Bedlam this week. Glad the schedule allowed this week off.

          • William Ryan says:

I know obviously the week off could of been used during the red November run but, I wonder if having to grind out the last part of the season with no break only helped keep the momentum and consistency on the both sides of the ball flowing.

          • JB says:

I kind of like the idea of getting to smoke their asses twice in the same season.

          • William Ryan says:

What’s even more exciting if the standings hold and we get Bama at Jerry’s World. Will be the first time we get to play a national title game (semi) in a packed house because of ability for most sooner fan to drive to the game (3 hours for me) and create a “home”setting.

          • EasTex says:

I fully expect the semi to be at the “Death Star” and will be very surprised if it isn’t. It will be great for so many Sooner fans to be able to drive in the day of the game, if they wish, and not be forced to arrange travel, hotel and food.

          • William Ryan says:

Personally It not plausible both economically and timely based on time off from work the holidays.. but one thing is for sure I will be in Dallas to see how far Saben can throw hos head set this year 😉

          • William Ryan says:

There is a lot of similarities between 2003, 2004, and 2008 teams in that they boost great qb in Bradford and White and a great oline as well.. With that being said it seemed when we faced top notch defence that could neutrilize and close the talent gap across the board. Neither posses that “it” factor that could will us to victory in the face of adversity and certain defeat. Unknown qb such as Heuple and Mayfield has shown time and again that that rare ability to steal victory from the jaws of defeat time and again.

    • Sooner Ray says:

      That one loss though. 🙁

    • William Ryan says:

One thing I have heard from former players is his attention to technique, detail, and ability to teach it in a calm and confident manner is second to none. Now let’s see it show up on the recruiting trail, and bring in some war daddys!

  • EasTex says:

Came across a blip that said Temple returned 2950 tickets from the 3000 they were allotted for the AAC championship game.
    /weak

  • William Ryan says:

If Riley was to leave (pray every night this blows over), does this open the door for Cale Gundy?

    • Sooner Ray says:

I can’t figure Cale out, has been in the “next up” position but seems perfectly content just coaching a position and taking home a paycheck. If he’s happy, I’m happy.

      • William Ryan says:

One thing for sure he gets it done on the reciting trail. While displaying his flexibility to coach running backs as long as he did, now inside receivers. I have the upmost confidence he could keep this offence rolling, because of his familiarity within the system.

        • Sooner Ray says:

He is an awesome recruiter and coach and I would trust him completely. I wonder if he is happy here and fears that a higher position would bring too much outside attention/ temptation to relocate.

          • William Ryan says:

He has the ideal situation, gets to coach at his Almer matter, part of a championship team, and staying under the radar during a bad season or two while other coaches was showed the door. Definitely a true display of consistency. That could make alot of sooner fan breath a little easier if the bad news breaks, and Bob hands the torch over to one of his most trusted lieutenants.

      • RBear says:

Happy doing what he’s doing- prob doesn’t like the politics of being a HC

      • soonermusic says:

It’s not out of the question that Cale talks to his brother about what being head coach is like and, so far, has decided he doesn’t want the stress and the limelight enough to relocate. Bob’s comments made it seem that the relocation to wr’s was in part to put his best guy where most needed, and also in part to improve Cale’s resume. So it wouldn’t be surprising to see him on the market in a year or so. Hope not. He’s clearly one of the reasons for OU’ls successes, no doubt.

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

    One word: PERINE.

    • William Ryan says:

Him and Mixon will definitely make anybody job easier, but it’s how you mix them in the game plan. Putting them in spots they will succeed aginst top notch defence is a big task for any oc.

    • William Ryan says:

I wonder who is the toughest to to bring down with a head of steam Perine or Henry?

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

        Henry is a horse. Imagine,
bama almost had both these guys. But I like Mixon and Perine together. Plus, our OL is always better than Bama’s.

        • William Ryan says:

The thing that makes Perine so hard to bring down is not only his sheer size and strength, is nimble ness and ability to stay on his feet after each hit he absorbs. Hardly ever see him get shoestring tackled.

          • PLAW0720 says:

Perine is an Earl Campbell clone. It’s hard to wrap up on them because of the size and power in their lower bodies. They said Campbell had 24″ thighs – I bet Samaje is in that range.

If Samaje got the number of carries Earl got, he would win the Heisman, period.

          • William Ryan says:

What’s even more astonishing I see a little Q in him as well with the his change of direction, balance and the ability to get lost behind that mammoth offensive line.

          • Daddy R says:

            Thats a pretty good comparison..

        • William Ryan says:

I don’t know if out oline is better than Bama… yeah we got the best guys on the field and a scheme that fits their style. I don’t remember them struggling to protect their qb or open holes.. at best I thinks it’s a wash.

      • Walter Sobcek says:

Henry is bigger but Perine is better. Henry is strictly N-S.

      • Zack says:

Guys bounce off Perine because he’s a bowling ball. I would bet he’s tougher to bring down where Henry might be harder to catch. Although I don’t think Henry is as fast as he appeared against us in the sugar bowl. And I know Perine has gained some speed.
If you’re asking me I would rather try to take down brooks.

        • Daddy R says:

I’m thinking Perine has looked quite a bit faster than Henry. And, thats on these last few long runs he’s had, even with a slighty bum ankle..

      • Daddy R says:

I think it’d be easier to trip Henry up. More leg length to work with. Perine is all balled up..making hard to even get to his legs.

        • Zack says:

And we’ve seen guys get pretty good shots on him and he keeps his balance. Nobody really wraps up.

    • RBear says:

      Bo Jackson

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Bo was great. But Perine broke three long td runs in the three biggest games of the year. Baylor, TCU, and Okie St.

        • Sooner Ray says:

Can’t believe you didn’t just call him out for using more than one word after you clearly laid down the game rules. 🙂

        • RBear says:

I’m sure you could find some Bo Jackson highlights out there if you looked.

        • Daddy R says:

          Bo ran over Bozworth.

          • Zack says:

I never saw bo besides highlights. But I heard traber talking about him once when they played against each other in baseball and that bo sounded like a freight train running around the bases.

          • Daddy R says:

Bo was freaking nuts. I grew up idolizing him with the raiders… A bad ass at baseball too. That damn injury though.. Man, took the wheels off arguably the greatest “athlete” of all time. Never got to play football again, and never the same in baseball.

          • leatherneck1061 says:

I think that play has been way overblown….just sayin

          • Daddy R says:

Me too, but considering “The Boz’s” rep at the time, I can see it. Man on Man, and “The Boz” lost. Two of the 80’s best college players, finally meet.

          • BleedCrimson says:

Bo ran over a LOT of people.

          • Defend Colfax says:

True. I’d brag about that one though.

          • Defend Colfax says:

He ran over the Boz, Bozworth was MIA.

          • Daddy R says:

            Tu ‘che.

        • leatherneck1061 says:

I love Peterson and Perine. But I have to say Bo wins all-time freak athlete award hands down IMO. That guy just wasn’t human.

    • DCinAZ says:

      Only word that matters.

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

    Coach Stoops on Game Day?

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

One question did Ross seem slower on that kickoff return? I know he got caught because of the angle, but he didn’t seem right all year.

    • DCinAZ says:

      Nah. He was gassed.

    • William Ryan says:

He was a track star in high school I don’t know what happened between now and last year but he wouldn’t have gotten caught that’s for sure.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Do you think he could be made into a receiver? He has speed and good hands. But not too quick.

        • RBear says:

          Straight line runner

        • William Ryan says:

He was more involved in the game plan last year and made the most of it. I think he definitely could do some damage in the screen game and end around stuff.

          • Sooner Ray says:

A magazine can only hold so many bullets but there is definitely a play or two in this offense where he could shine.

          • William Ryan says:

I agree he can take it to the house any given play. I guess we could add it to the wish list right behind Andrews.

        • Walter Sobcek says:

I have been waiting for them to run Ross on a wheel route. Maybe it’s still coming.

    • Sooner Ray says:

I don’t think he kicked in his track gear because he thought he couldn’t be caught and also, that dude from state was damn fast.

      • soonermusic says:

I thought he looked a tad slower as well, but getting caught by a monstrously speedy guy will do that. 🙂 I can’t remember, but maybe his track gear came earlier in the run, last year, not in the final 10 yards. For sure he didn’t have any trouble pulling away from everyone else on the field, so looks may be deceiving on this one.

    • Walter Sobcek says:

He was running a bit awkwardly toward the end. I almost thought he might have gimped an ankle slightly. But I think he may have just run out of gas.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

He looked back. That will always slow you down.

    • Zack says:

His longest run prior to that was like 30 yards. And he hasn’t tried running many back this year so I think he is just a bit out of shape. Hopefully he’s got his head right and will try running a few back because we will need to shorten the field against whoever we draw in the playoff.

  • JJSoona says:

Heard an epic comment from an OSU friend of mine………..”Those Effing Sooners of yours are the most balanced team left” “you guys are relentless”. What was I to say?

  • paganpink says:

Boomer Sooner! I’m going to watch the rest play one more game while waiting on the best.

    • EasTex says:

I will watch some of the goings on out of curiosity.
Lots of good high school football going on today, too.

  • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

No Championship Saturday for me today. I promised Mrs. Me that I would accompany her for some Christmas shopping. Of course, my presence requires a quid pro quo upon which the terms have been decided. The following football commentary will provide you a hint at the favor returned. May it fill your imagination with the forbidden images of no-no time and scar you for life.

“I-formation. QB goes under center. Tight end to his right.”

“Can’t be passive now, Chris. He’s done everything right so far.”

“I think you’re right, Herbie. There’s the snap. He hands it off to the big man. Wide open and down the middle he goes. There is nothing between him and the win. He’s at the thirty. The twenty. The ten. He’s going all the–Good heavens! He stumbles! Down just short of the endzone. There’s the buzzer, and that’s the game. What a heartbreaking end to an otherwise strong performance.”

“Did you see how hard he hit that hole, Chris? I mean, wow. He had a full head of steam and just ran out of gas. It’s inexcusable at this point in the season.”

“Goes to show you that conditioning pays off, Herbie. My goodness fifteen minutes flies by.”

“If only Brent were here to see this.”

  • Waters says:

    Provocative Thought:
No question Riley has a gift for offense strategy, play calling, player motivation and confidence. He is an outstanding OC. We want to keep him, pay him more money; give
    him recognition, praise and credit.
His stature in the football world has been magnified by his performance at OU.
This does not mean that he is ready to be HC. The skills of judgement, hiring coaches, administrative duties, public relations, delegating responsibility, discipline, media are not required to be a successful OC.
IMHO Riley has exercised poor judgement in pursuing the North Texas Job before the regular season ended and now pursuing the SC job as we are entering the play offs for the
NC. This would be justifiable if at OU for at least one – two years but not now.
I believe he initiated contact because he is to young and inexperienced to be considered for a HC. How long was BS a DC at Florida before he came to OU?
Riley reveals himself to be a very ambitious man who exercised poor judgement by not waiting until at least next year and not putting the team first in pursuit of a NC which he expects of the players.
I expect BS has a plan to deal with his untimely exit – this year or next.

    • roygbell says:

Comon’ Riley didn’t pursue the NT job. He was called and he turned it down. And, we simply don’t know if he is pursuing the SC job. We only have what has been reported by some media and that doesn’t make anything a fact or is what Lincoln has actually done. I haven’t seen a single written word or sound from Riley yet. If you can post something where Riley said what he is doing I would love to see the link :).

      • Waters says:

Riley could have simply said NO if not initiated by Riley and there would be no issue.

        • Zack says:

He’s taking notes from Bob, to not answer the question one way or the other.

          • Waters says:

He needs to stay and learn more.

          • Zack says:

He probably will but who are we to judge him for interviewing for a bigger job.

          • Waters says:

            This year, YES.
            Next year, No.

          • Zack says:

If leach didn’t lock a kid in timeout or whatever then he would be the shining example of leaving after one year. He’s still done pretty well aside from that incident.
The thing is this isn’t Riley’s first year as an OC. He’s been calling plays for 6 years now and he’s been given a lot of praise for his knowledge.

          • Waters says:

Leach was an anomaly. He and Mummy of UK were the only two who knew the Air Raid Offense. Otherwise he would not have been offered the OC at OU and the Texas Tech job.

          • Zack says:

And now a lot of programs want that offense and Riley is considered one of the top air raid guys. Holgerson and cumbie may be the only guys ahead of him from that leach tree.

          • JB says:

Leach isn’t the only person capable of being such an anomaly. Plus, the “Air Raid” isn’t a new invention that only 2 people held the keys to…it is based off existing offenses, starting with LaVell Edwards’ version of the West Coast offense at BYU, Glenn Ellison’s Run & Shoot offense, Don Coryell’s Air Coryell offense, Sid Gilman’s offense, etc.

Mike Leach succeeds using a narrow playbook because he’s a good coach and teacher. So is LR. LR has been calling the plays for several years. When Leach worked for Mumme, he was called OC but he didn’t call the plays. Mumme did. He had 1 year as the sole play caller at OU before getting the TTU job.

BTW…OU was 7-5 when TTU hired him away, not 11-1 like LR.

          • Daddy R says:

Bennie Owen basically ran a version of the “air raid” when he was at OU, YEARS ago. They threw the ball more than anyone else around at that time..

          • JB says:

Or maybe he doesn’t. That’s for him to decide.

        • Daddy R says:

The man needs interviewing experience. He needs to know what programs expect from HC’s. Nothing wrong with interviewing.

          • Waters says:

It affects recruiting and his perception. If you need interviewing expierence, you are not ready to be HC.

          • Zack says:

How is it affecting recruiting so far? He’s been out visiting his targets and no one has decommitted from the offensive side of things. I think there’s a chance we lose hardy but it won’t have anything to do with Riley being tied to interviews.
Do you want someone telling you that you can’t interview for other jobs?

          • Waters says:

How can you recruit a future QB if its obvious you are seeking another job.

          • Daddy R says:

Riley is not the head man, BOB is. It’d be different if this was Bob interviewing for other jobs. OC’s are vital to recruiting, but much of this falls on the head man to keep them interested and taken care of.

          • Waters says:

That’s the line that Colleges give when a key assistant coach leaves but it’s not reality.

          • Daddy R says:

It is when you have a head man the Caliber of a Bob or Saban. You think Saban is losing any recruits because Smart left? I highly doubt it…

          • Zack says:

He might lose some but he will find other 4 stars to replace them.

          • Zack says:

His number one job is to sell the kid on the school not himself as a coach.

          • brainpimp says:

You go knock on their door.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Seriously? You say we had the Heisman runner up under OC Mark Mangino. We had the Heisman winner under Chuck Long. We had the Heisman winner under Kevin Wilson. We currently have a Heisman candidate under LR. Bob Stoops has shown he knows how to get OC’s in who develop QB’s. If the current OC leaves, it’s next man up.

          • Daddy R says:

Seriously? Interviewing for an assistant position is different than interviewing for HC. Just look how many BIG name coaches he’s up against for the S. Car job… If he doesn’t gain interview experience, how is he ever supposed to beat out those other coaches? If not this year, but in future years? Interview experience is good for folks of all ages. Just ask many a great DC or OC who stuck around too long and never got that experience, and never got those head jobs. It’s certainly happened.

I’m not saying I think Riley should bolt, especially for a job like ECU or N. Texas, BUT, if a team like S. Carolina comes calling, and actually wanted to hire him, I think he’d be crazy to pass up an opportunity like that. And besides even being hired, just getting your name out there, and the experience interviewing, is crucial to landing a head gig, eventually.

As for recruiting, If I was a recruit, I’m playing for the school, and the Head man. And if my OC was good enough to become the head man somewhere else, then frankly, thats exciting. Means I probably made the right choice, and I would trust the head man (Bob Stoops) to get me another coordinator who is up and coming, and can showcase my talents as well as the previous coordinator.

          • Brad Warren says:

            You’re misinformed.

          • brainpimp says:

Oh yea. It’s just killing our recruiting. /smh

        • brainpimp says:

And why should he? If someone calls me and says hey I want to talk to you about of job with us that potentially pays 3 times what I’m making you would have to be an idiot to not at least listen. Sheesh.

    • Zack says:

it works differently for top offensive assistants and top defensive assistants. Just look around (and feel free to correct me if I’m wrong) but the big schools mostly take former head coaches or top defensive coordinators. If you’re a great OC you end up either being hired within like they’ve done at Oregon and I believe at Stanford, or like Herman you take a job at Houston or mclewayne (sp?) taking the Colorado state job first before Florida.

He has been here ONE year. He looks great , so far, not many flaws. After a couple more years will shortcomings appear and he doesn’t look so wonderful? ?

      • Daddy R says:

Thats kind of what I am thinking…what’s the old saying, “strike while the iron is hot.” Sometimes if great opportunities arise, you have to jump on it. Not saying there won’t be more for him, but it is not a guarantee, as many folks are suggesting. Multiple things could happen that derail coaches from moving up.

        • Clay Davis says:

A lot of rumors popped up around Heupel after that Sugar Bowl for sure. I bet he’s wishing he had taken them now.

          • Daddy R says:

Speaking of this, I saw an article yesterday that mentioned Huep may be the new OC at missouri..

          • soonermusic says:

There is little chance that the view of the college football world in general is as jaundiced towards Heupel as many in the OU fan base are. He coached some great teams and great quarterbacks, and has the pedigree of winning a national championship as a player. Just because he had short notice to find his current job, doesn’t mean that with a bit more time he won’t find a better one, if he chooses.

          • Daddy R says:

I agree. I think he will get some good jobs. If he can get this one, and do well for a year to two, he’ll get a shot at HC somewhere…

But he needed to stay longer to improve his resume. Yeah right.

    • Daddy R says:

Dude. Mike Tomlin was 32 when Hired by the PITTSBURGH STEELERS. Young coaches can excel at times, and I believe schools around the nation are seeing if Riley just might be one of those guys. I have no doubt SC contacted him. You don’t just “call up” a big school, in a big conference and say you want to interview when you are 32 years old…. They call you. At least thats my thought on this…

      • Clay Davis says:

Sure you can call South Carolina or any other Division I football programs. Like most employers, they don’t interview people they aren’t interested in though.

    • JB says:

Lincoln Riley didn’t pursue the N Texas job. He had no interest in them.

      • Zack says:

And his agent probably has a green light to throw his name out there and see who’s interested.

    • Big Higg says:

Sorry but if I’m LR and other programs came calling I would interview for the experience bare minimum

    • brainpimp says:

      Are you a troll?

  • EasTex says:

Of all the games on tv today, the game I am most interested in seeing is the Texas high school playoff game between two undefeated teams, Allen and Denton Ryan.
    GO ALLEN EAGLES!

    • OceanDescender says:

I’m also most interested in a TXHS football game today. My old team, Mansfield, is on a historic playoff run and I’m reeeeaaally hoping Denton Guyer doesn’t kill their dreams haha. Go Tigers!!!!!

  • Kyle Boone says:

Great day to be a Sooner fan!…. wait….

  • Daddy R says:

So, we going to see some upsets today, and hence some playoff chaos? Or nothing exciting?

    • Clay Davis says:

It’s rare that everything goes as expected, so I’m betting one of the top 4 goes down today.

      • Defend Colfax says:

More than likely Iowa. Although, if NC can play even a little defense, they could put a hurt on Clemson. I’m predicting Clemson wins a shootout but I’m cheering for an NC victory which makes the committee scramble to make the final 4.

#1 Bama vs #4 NC in Miami
#2 Boomer Sooner vs #3 Mich St. in Dallas

        • Daddy R says:

#1 Bama vs #4 NC in Miami
#2 Boomer Sooner vs #3 Mich St. in Dallas

This is what Corso Said too! lol

          • Defend Colfax says:

Let’s hear it for nonsensical fandom! I want to watch the committee scramble, also I’m just happy there are no Oregon’s. That final 4 has 4 nice uniforms. No neon racing stripes or texture or fishnets.

          • Daddy R says:

            Or bird wings.

          • Daddy R says:

Ohh, just noticed you had NC beating Clemson! Corso still had Clemson in there, but barely winning, and getting dropped to 4th.

          • Big Higg says:

I told one of my friends last night that this would be the final 4

        • leatherneck1061 says:

I would rather Clemson stays #1 so we and Bama stay 2 and 3. Would love to get the tide in the Cotton Bowl.

          • Defend Colfax says:

You really want to put it on Bama in the Dirty D? Did you have to endure the LSU Sugar Bowl? -Silly question, we all had to endure the LSU Sugar Bowl.

          • leatherneck1061 says:

Uhhhh…the Dirty D? Does that mean Dallas? And what does that have to do with LSU in the Sugar Bowl???

          • EasTex says:

            A puzzler.

          • Defend Colfax says:

Everyone has bitched about having to play LSU in New Orleans, and Florida in Miami. If that’s an advantage then Dallas would definitely be OUrs. Also Dirty D is just a nickname everyone jumped on that, I did not make it up. If you want I’ll say Big D, there you go Dallas, you are Big D every love Dallas, Dallas number 1, Dallas big strong, good.

          • EasTex says:

I’ve lived in Dallas for 25 years and never heard it called Dirty D by anyone, until now.

          • leatherneck1061 says:

I really couldn’t care less how you refer to Dallas; I don’t live there. I wasn’t sure why you were singling out LSU, but it’s all the same to me.

          • rainydaze114 says:

Dallas is probably my least favorite city in this part of the country.

          • JB says:

Dirrty D? Dallas isn’t dirty, but New Orleans is filthy.

        • SoonerinLondon says:

If Bama is 1, they’ll be in Dallas. According to google maps, Dallas is 2-300 miles closer to them than Miami.

On top of that, it has the benefit of getting OU out of Dallas without having to drop them to number 4.

I expect Bama to move to 1 or OU to move to 4, to get them out of Dallas.

        • JB says:

Ugh…I’d rather play Bama. MSU’s D scares me a little bit.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

OU will NOT be in Dallas. Not a chance.

      • EasTex says:

I think it is most likely they will.

        • Boomer4life says:

          This!

        • SoonerinLondon says:

I hope so, but think there is exactly 0 chance.
I’ll happily eat crow tomorrow, as I’d rather fly to Dallas with a bunch of OU fans than drive to Miami, from my home in Sarasota, mostly alone.
I just see Dallas as too much of an advantage for OU, which is why all the Sooner fans want it, and don’t think the Committee will give OU tht advantage unless they are number 1.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

Have you actually read the language on the Playoff site about assigning locations? There is nothing in the language that allows the Committee to seed a team in order to make the locations work better. Meaning, OU won’t get dropped to the 4 spot JUST to keep us from Dallas. If Clemson is the 1 seed, I don’t see any way they don’t go to Miami. That means if OU is the 2/3 seed, we’ll play in Dallas. If we’re the 2 seed, and Bama is the 1 seed, Bama to Miami and OU to Dallas.

I think Dallas is very likely UNLESS the Committee drops us to the 4 spot for other reasons. Which is possible.

          • SoonerinLondon says:

Respectfully I ask, “what’s your point?”

I just stated my opinion. I don’t care what the Committee says. My opinion is that the Committee will not put OU in Dallas unless they are number 1…so they make Bama 1 “because whey won more convincingly than Clemson” or make OU 4 “because the B1G champ was a winner of a 4 vs 5 matchup” or some such.

Perhaps the reasoning will not be “to keep OU out of Dallas”, but the result will be the same.

Heck, GameDay kicked off the first hour talking about Bama moving to number 1. That alone, would do it.

          • Fear The Magic says:

I agree, I think that they dont want us in Dallas as well. If the B1G winner wins by 2 TDs or more the committee will have its excuse to drop OU to #4.

          • brainpimp says:

It’s your opinion with zero support. All opinions are not equal.

          • SoonerinLondon says:

We’ll know tomorrow. It will be easy to see if I’m right or wrong.

          • Bob Edwards says:

If you are going to demand that people support their opinion with facts, you might as well shutdown the Internet.

          • DrewChubbs says:

Baylor is trying like hell right now to give them that other reason.

        • SoonerfanTU says:

I’ve yet to see a single Bowl Projection also that didn’t have OU in Dallas as the 2/3 seed.

        • JB says:

Bama vs OU in Dallas if Clemson wins today.

      • Brad Warren says:

        Thank you Nostradamus.

      • leatherneck1061 says:

This question has sparked some interesting discussion. Most raking predictions right now think OU holds #3, but at collegefootballnews.com they don’t think the committee will ever allow us such a break. It’s ok for LSU to play in the Sugar Bowl, USC in the Rose Bowl, Florida/Miami/FSU in the Orange Bowl. But OU in Dallas??? HELL NO!! I swear some of these people have no integrity.

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Exactly. I used to think I was just paranoid as an OU fan. But when the King was coaching they called us cheaters out here in Southern Cal country. After Bob brought us back we were the darlings (2000-2002). But then the BCS controversies (OU doesn’t deserve it) I feel since 2003, a lot of coaches and media people hold us in derision.

          • leatherneck1061 says:

I feel it too. And it became all too clear the last week or so watching some of the talking heads act as though OU doesn’t even belong in the playoff discussion. Just unbelievable. And I hope all our boys are seeing this. When they take the field next, I want them pissed and out for blood.

    • Big Higg says:

I think UNC will at least put a good scare into Clemson

  • Daddy R says:

You know, the lack of a conference championship game may not hurt our chances at getting into the playoff, but it damn sure is going to hurt Baker’s chance to win the Heisman. Not really fair for him that the other front runners get to play today.. Lets hope they lay an egg! Henry needs to fumble twice, 1 ran back for a td, and under 60 yards. Watson needs to throw 3 picks, and 1 for a pick 6. 🙂

    • SoonerinLondon says:

We’re MUCH better off without a CCG.

You are right about the Heisman voting, though.

      • Daddy R says:

Yea, the big 12 sort of screwed the pooch reindeer, with this years schedule. Could have at least had a bye for the 4 major teams before that November gauntlet, pushing those final “good games” until this weekend.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

I disagree. It’s going to work out for OU and the Big 12 this year, but there will be a year, probably soon, where we are going to wish we had a CCG.

I said this earlier this week or last week, but I hope OU making the Playoff this year doesn’t keep the Big 12 from looking at expansion.

      • RBear says:

I agree- my thoughts are to have 6 power conferences of 10 teams where they ALL play a round robin, facing EVERY team in their conference where there is a true champion. Then select the conf champ from each conf plus two at large teams for the playoffs.

      • JB says:

I would like to see the Big 12 add an extra non-conference game or add one more conference opponent to get us to 13 games. I love playing EVERYBODY in the conference every season.

        • SoonerinLondon says:

I like that we’ve moved OsU to Championship Weekend next year. I think that helps, especially if games like that are for all the marbles, like it was this year.

        • SoonerfanTU says:

Are they allowed to do that? I don’t think they are. I think the regular season is 12 games for everybody, and has to be that way. Not positive on that though.

          • JB says:

With the new autonomy rules, they should be able to. Also, teams used to play extra games at the beginning of the year like the Pigskin Classic, Kickoff Classic, Hispanic College Fund Classic, etc. I don’t see why they can’t do that now. I’d bet other conferences with a CCG would support us doing it.

          • Jed says:

too much money in the game to risk injury.

    • Defend Colfax says:

Yeah, with the way the season ended I can’t see him winning it. But I do see him invited. He ended the season eerily similar to Heupel, putting up lower totals, battling injury but gritting out wins.

The one scenario College Game Day did not even consider was FL-Bama. I’m with them. SEC is SO WEAK except for Bama that FL has no chance of winning. You have to score points to win, and FL can’t score even against FAU (not a made-up name). Elon (a frequent SEC non-conference game) and Presbyterian Blue Hose (also a frequent SEC non-conference game and not made-up name), Samford (not Stanford!; the only Samford I’d ever heard of was Samford, TX, just south of Wichita Falls, TX) would have pretty good D stats against FL and other sEC teams.

I didn’t know these schools existed, much less had football teams, until about 3 years ago I wanted to see who SEC teams played in their non-conference games.

Yeah coach. That’s because you guys suck so bad on offense you look like you belong in a Pop Warner league. I don’t have a prediction for that game, but if Bama let’s the Gator O score at all, it’s evidence the Bama D is overrated.

    • CKill1 says:

I was just telling a buddy of mine that I doubted Florida made it past midfield today. Their O is atrocious.

  • sracer says:

I honestly can’t figure out why OU is not recruiting the Jenks stand out Dillon Stoner. I know we are deep in the D-backfield, but that boy can catch the ball as well. Would be a great receiver down the road. Plus it would keep him away from the Pukes. I’ve watched him play for several years, he’s a dynamic in state player that we’re missing out on.
