2016 RB Abdul Adams Commits To OU

The first of what could be several commitments produced from OU’s big recruiting weekend just seven short days ago came down Saturday afternoon when 2016 RB Abdul Adams tweeted the following.

Adams was one of many prospects in Norman last week for the TCU game, not long after he had decommitted from Michigan State.
The Sooners have had a number of different targets at RB in this 2016 class and yet a various times, there has even been talk about the possibility of not even taking a back in this class. Obviously that is no longer the case and amazingly enough, Oklahoma winds up landing what was probably their top target all along and a perfect fit for this Lincoln Riley offense.

How did OU get back in with Adams?
Don’t really know the specifics. Could really only offer that when those typeof things tend to happen, they tend to happen in bunches. Kids talk, they’re very reactionary at times. Fair or not, recruiting is a lot about perception.

I really like the guys committed to OU. This team keeps getting better with every commitment and the last few classes have the potential to be solid for years to come.
You might check their boards and see what their fans are saying. I will say that my opinion of their team is just that they are a solid team, not a ton of swagger nationally. It’s possible those 2 could have felt recruited over or felt not like a priority. That happens a lot.

I went over to 247 he apparently told them he wanted to go closer to home. Funny how that worked out. Some of their comments said he wants to go somewhere where they don’t play defense LOL. And someone else said go cowboys. So the fans seemed to have wanted him.

Definitely amusing. Just imagine how many points Baylor would have scored against Michigan St.’s cheese wiz defense if the Spartans wouldn’t of had a month to prepare last season. Michigan St.’s defense looks good against bad Big 10 offenses, not so much when facing teams outside of the Big 10.
If Baylor had any semblance of a defense last year they would have ridden MSU until well past the horn.
MSU is 6 hours, 500 miles closer than Nkrman.

His jukes and cuts remind me of Mixon. He appears more shifty than fast but fast enough.
Just a three star but his offers are off the charts good. Alabama, Notre Dame, Michigan etc etc etc. Im really happy to get this kid.

Correct. I go by the offers not the stars and as mentioned his offers are as good as it gets.

They add 3 stars to anyone Bama is recruiting. They reason like this: 3 star already? 3 stars + another 3 stars = 5 star recruit!
Who says the sec doesn’t place an emphasis on academics? 3+3=5. Good enough for an sec degree!
I think Perine was the last RB we managed to land over Alabama. Dont think our other RBs held Bama offers.
He was a three star as well I believe.
Some of those defenders were tiny.. Questioning the talent level he played against. But great moves, should fit this offense very well

for those who have seen film of the top RB targets ( Whaley,Speights, Stephens, Adams ), will somebody critique their abilities ? sorta figured Stephens was the best of the bunch but maybe not ? comments please………..thanks.
Out of those 4 I’ve always liked Adams the most. I think trayveon Williams was the best running back we offered though. Speights played against inferior competition but appeared to really add speed as a senior.
I honestly liked Whaley the most, but I think I’m by no means an expert

Well part of me hopes Michigan state loses tonight so Ohio state is in the big 10 championship. I can see a scenario where Ohio state leaps us if Michigan state wins out.

I’m not saying it’s a great chance but more than 0 for sure. Ohio state is sitting one spot lower (8) than we were after winning 5 straight and beating an undefeated Baylor team that had won its last 22 or so home games. Just saying they’re giving Ohio state a chance

And playing a higher ranked team on the road in one of the all time great venues. Plus a better loss. It would just be in our best interest for Michigan state to lose today.

That makes zero sense. If OU beats the cowboys tonight I can’t see anyone passing us. What kind of logic would the PLC use to justify both MSU and Ohio State passing us when it is all over? It is Iowa or Michigan State will be in, assuming they beat PSU tonight.
What sense does the committee make in the first place? They clearly think highly of the big 10, with 4 ranked teams in the top 10 even though the rest of the conference is garbage and even the top teams aren’t that great. I wouldn’t be surprised if the committee screws the big 12 is all I’m saying not that this is what I think they should do.

Riley recruited him before he came to OU.
He was committed to East Carolina at one time.
I would think that would Gundy’s past success at recruiting RBs he would still have some part of that position’s recruiting.
Pretty sure coaches recruit regions not position.
Wouldn’t mind seeing him blocking for AA in a few years!

With added muscle up top, I was thinking Brennan Clay.
Funny, I thought the same thing watching him run, but I think he’s a quicker back with more valance and vision.
Clay bulked up considerably at OU and lost some wiggle in the process. His HS film was pretty spectacular.
I know Clay’s history very well, but this kid is more dynamic.

Likely because he didn’t go to a lot of camps or do a lot of interviews
Which is why I love that TFB never relies on the recruiting services’ stars or any other shorthand to describe the prospects.

interesting enough , Adams is not ranked among the top 300 in either the ESPN or Scout listings. Comes in as the #17 RB in Rivals list……great offer list just wonder why he is unranked ?

That’s really odd that a kid who was offered by every school that looked at him is only a three star. Is he 5’11 175lbs. or 6’0 205lbs.?
Guessing he played or plays for a smaller program as those type of kids regardless of talent get over looked cause of their comp!

The 5″11 175 kid is from Washington D.C. (I think), there are 2 Abdul Adams. Both are RB’s both are very fast. The one that just committed to us from NC is a 4.4 guy.
I’ve been watching his HUDL film. Seems to me he’s a Q Griffin kinda guy. A little smaller, quicker (and faster) guy. His speed seems to be just as good sideways, backward as it is forward. He was a strong 3 star at the beginning of the season, will probably be a 4 star before signing day.
We should sign them both to be sure we have the right one. 🙂

I absolutely agree. Lincoln Rileys system needs a running back that can move like this young man does, but I also hope Mr. Riley realizes he needs a back like Perine to get him 2 yards when needed.

Hillside HS in NC is a 4A school, (next to the largest schools in NC, 4AA is the largest), Hillside just lost the 3rd round of their state playoff games, I don’t know how the brackets look but they have finished their season 10-2 and were ranked 19th in the state before the playoffs.

My knock on running backs this size is how they do little for the blocking schemes. On one play last night, mayfield rolled out to his right. Brooks was there in front to block any one closing in. An OSU player came crashing in and when Brooks engaged he was knocked out of the way with a simple extension of the defender’s arm. The defender didn’t even miss a step, closed on Mayfield who then had to throw before the play fully developed.
A 3 star not even in the top 400 athlete gets a scholarship and everyone is excited? There are almost 2 dozen running backs rated ahead of this guy
