Velus Jones: This past weekend, 2016 WR and USC commit, Velus Jones took an official visit to OU and it could not have gone better. Jones said, “I knew the trip would be good but I didn’t realize it would be that good”. Jones didn’t hesitate to say that Oklahoma is at or near the top for him. “I’ve got a good relationship with coach Riley, coach Simmons, coach Stoops…all those guys…it feels like family there.”

Velus said that the coaches really sold him on the idea of being able to come in and use his speed to be a guy like Sterling Shepard who can take the top off of a defense but also use his savvy and quickness to be a good short and intermediate route threat. Oklahoma’s scheme is very appealing to Velus saying, “I’ll do what the coaches ask but a receiver loves to have the ball in his hands and make plays.” Velus also said he connected well the OU players and was hosted by freshman receiver, A.D. Miller.

Jones took the visit with his high school coach but was also accompanied by his aunt and uncle, who…get this…wait for it…wait for it…live in the Oklahoma City area! That’s right, Jones actually has a very close family tie to Oklahoma and admitted that will have an effect on his decision.

Jones says he will take a visit to Michigan this coming weekend followed by a trip to Knoxville to visit Tennessee sometime after that. But he said that he will silently commit before making his official announcement and it sounds like Michigan and the Vols are going to need a lot to overtake the Sooners right now; especially with the close family tie that Jones has to Oklahoma. – (Brandon & Super K)

Casey Thompson: Sooners fans know the Thompson lineage. The youngest looks to be the best of the 3 QB’s in the family. At least, potentially. Sooners offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley has made it clear to Thompson that he is very high on him and is already making him a priority. With the Sooners already having their 2016 and 2017 quarterbacks lined up, it helps Riley concentrate on his 2018 prospects. The other, besides Thompson, seems to be another Sooners legacy in Jalen Mayden from Sasche, Texas. Thompson, though, seems to be the top prospect of the two for the Sooners and perhaps rightly so. Thompson ended his sophomore season leading a very young Southmoore team the 6A playoffs, before being knocked out by Edmond Santa Fe. His season stats were other worldly, too. Thompson ended the season with 52 total touchdowns (32 passing and 20 rushing), 2,670 yards passing and 1,011 yards rushing. He also only had four passes intercepted during the season.

Thompson made another visit to OU this past weekend. I spoke with Thompson after his visit and he informed me that things are picking up between he and OU. He had a good conversation, on his unofficial Saturday, with Riley. Thompson tells me that he has plans to take another unofficial to OU the week after the OSU game and spend some one on one time with Riley, who recently went to watch Thompson in person when they played Norman North, so they can get to know each other a little better. Thompson holds offers from Oklahoma State, SMU, Oregon State and Arkansas State right now. If things continue to progress, with Thompson and OU,  one could see OU being added to his offer list. Something OU fans, I’m sure, would be glad to see. – (Brandon)

Andraez ‘Greedy’ Williams: Sooners are well aware of the talent at Shreveport, Louisiana Calvary High School. Oklahoma has a commitment from star safety Chanse Sylvie, already. Sylvie is one of the more vocal leaders of this class that is not afraid to publically recruit others to join him. We all know LSU’s staff is on a hot seat, to say the least. TFB caught word that dialogue between Williams and Sooners defensive back coach Kerry Cooks is picking up again. It’s just in the preliminary stages so far, but if anyone can pull off a late switch it would Cooks, with help from Sooners 2016 class lead recruiter, and Williams teammate, Sylvie. As more information comes available and if OU gains some traction with Williams, we will be sure to update you. – (Brandon)
