De’Chavon Hayes Note

As we mentioned last week, coach Gundy planned on visiting stud JUCO RB, De’Chavon Hayes on Sunday (yesterday). The visit did happen. Coach Gundy spent a lot of time with De’Chavon’s father. In fact De’Chavon was not present for the in-home but don’t let that freak y’all out. D’s father said the visit was great. D and his father know that Coach Stoops and Coach Gundy are great coaches and they love the fact that they expect a lot out of their players and they know exactly what they want from D.

And I’ll tell y’all straight up Arizona St. tried to play that “well they’ve got a bunch of backs and they’re going to sign Joe Mixon…” stuff. 1) As we’ve said on this site for a while – OU is not likely getting Joe Mixon 2) De’Chavon wants to compete with the best and 3) Oklahoma has a need for a more experienced RB. Williams is already out and Clay and Finch will be gone. I’ll also tell y’all that even though ASU has a bunch of good young backs our coaches did not try to play that angle.

We’re sticking to our prediction from last week. We still feel like Oklahoma wins this battle. And don’t get me wrong ASU has a lot to offer. D definitely loves the city, weather, the coaches and the scheme. But we feel like ultimately he knows where the best coaches are and where he would be best prepared for the league. We will have to wait and see but we feel good about where Oklahoma stands and we believe they have the lead over ASU. News on where De’Chavon decides to commit should be coming pretty soon. Stay tuned!

Hayes is exactly what OU needs for next year. I believe he will have a bigger impact than D. Williams did his first year(better attitude). Next year with Hayes-Ford-Ross will be a nasty backfield.
Off topic a bit but Hype needs to let Knight throw more, especially down field or Bama will bottle us up big time.

Hopefully Trevor will be able to play. Don’t forget about Perine next year either. If we go true smashmouth next year, and stick Ford, Perine and Rip back there in that diamond, whoa mama! De’Chavon could also add an element of speed from a tailback position we haven’t seen in Norman in a loooooong time.

On the show last night, JH would not
totally commit, but indicated Trevor should be good to go.

Thanks for the update. I wonder why De’ Chavon wasn’t there for Cale’s in- home?

We chatted a bit last night and he told me but I had to run so I didn’t get a chance to ask him. I’ll holler at him later but it aint nothing to worry about in terms of what it means for OU.
